So, revealing a secret here (I do most of my work in the completely unfinished basement of my very old house!) but, I managed to grab my phone quickly enough this time to catch my daily “visitor.” Sadly, he has not been back for a while, but this #cellarspider visited me just about every day for over a week! Usually landing on my arm or hand, but sometimes just dropping down in front of me or onto my work surface — presumably to check out what I was doing? I don’t think they are particularly territorial and their primary defense is to shake wildly when their webs are disturbed, so afaik, this was very unusual behavior? He would “visit” for a short while and then slide back up his silk to the ceiling and I wouldn’t see him again until the next day... 🤷🏻‍♀️ Has anyone else had an experience like this with a cellar spider before? I feel like I have observed similar spider behavior before, but only with jumpers. I just admire the fact that something as tiny and lovely as a wasp can absolutely terrify a grown adult human. ⠀ ⠀ As a younger person, I got A LOT of unwanted attention. And it was often very threatening and disturbing. And I would often try to imagine myself with a scorpion’s tail or the stinger of a wasp, just to be able to walk down a city street and not seem constantly terrified. It helped.
