What's fun is that Soren has biological siblings he's never met somewhere out there; in book one there is an exchange between Marella (his mother) and Mrs. P, wherein Mrs. P reassures Marella by saying something to the affect of "hey, relax, we've done this a bunch of times before, remember?" and she specifically uses the word "clutch" and not just "egg" so yeah. That's neat, right? Just a bunch of barn owls who have no clue that Metalbeak is their brother, or that Soren and Coryn are related to them at all. Imagine meeting your youngest siblings after years and assuming they're dead or disappeared, only to discover that two are knights of the round table, one is basically hitler, and that you have a nephew who is the Chosen One. Like that's gonna be one hell of a family reunion LMAO

okay nobody asked and this is incredibly niche but I saw someone else drew ga'hoole au vash and knives on twitter so here's my own trigun / guardians of ga'hoole au thoughts (triga'hoole? guardians of gunsmoke maybe? I dont think owls know what guns are idfk)

First off what owls what characters would be, my choices are mostly vibe/appearance based but theres some meaning to some of em Vash and Knives: barn owls. of course. generic protag owl but fitting in appearance anyway Wolfwood: stygian owl Meryl: some sort of scops owl? maybe cyprus scops owl? they're little guys and. scops. camera. you get it Milly: blakiston's fish owl Roberto: dusky eagle owl Livio / Razlo: snowy owl ill die on this hill Legato: lesser sooty owl (metalbeak / surtr was a greater sooty) Zazie: desert owl OR some sort of bay owl because those things are so bug-like to me Elendira: either ural owl or short eared owl, yknow, the same as otulissa in the movie, the really cunty one Midvalley: eastern screech owl E.G. Young busses

ok so random lore thought

Young busses have a high mortality rate, so the adult busses are told by Elizabeth (one of the main busses who raises every infant bus for the first 3 months) to not get emotionally attached to them. Because they always have the risk of all of them dying or only one surviving (which is often the case, VERY rarely you’ll have a bus clutch fully survive). And no the busses are not super small shen they firstly awaken to the world, they’re the same size like their adult counterparts.

Since busses are unable to reproduce at this very moment, they use busses that don’t have any consciousness and insert a new AI into them. This AI then gets trained for 3 months to know all the basic stuff and have survival instincts to not succumb to the natural surroundings. After a while they become self aware and are able to form a personality. It’s somewhere in their first 2-3 months when this happens. This greatly increases their chances of survival. For those that don’t develope this, and this is also super rarely when the AI is faulty, they’ll obv have higher chances of dying.

And when they are 3 months old, a bus or two adopts them and raises them by their standards. All young busses have special markings all around their body so that adult busses can see them very well. Incase of an emergency.

So when Indra adopted 3 busses he was very happy having them (one is red, one blue and the third beige). But he was unsure if they’ll make it. Often asking Katrischa to watch over with him to make sure the young busses have extra protection while they explore the outside world. Even if they could just stay inside for a while it isn’t recommended to let the baby busses just stay inside, they need sun light and alot of movement. And they need alot of stimulus which can’t always be provided by staying inside. And besides, the other busses want to work and sleep, the young clutch would just be loud the entire time.

He had not named any of them thus far, still conflicted how things will go.

Months pass and and nothing bad seems to happen, until the younglings go a bit too far into the forest and the red one gets shot at by invaders, they use specialised bows to shoot at the busses to immobilise them. The two other young busses run away in a panic while the other one is helplessly laying on it’s side and struggling to breathe. The humanoids quickly took its life. Katrischa tried to find it but it got dragged off somewhere, concluding that this one didn’t make it.

Now Indra was left with two younglings, both not even a year old and they had to witness their sibling getting killed by a humanoid. He doesn’t know how much it affects them emotionally, since they can’t speak but only say gibberish. The beige youngling seems somewhat silent, it didn’t seem to cry as much as the blue one.

After a while these two busses seem to feel a bit safer going outside. Nothing bad had happened for a few more months and it was almost their first birthday. When they’re a year old, their chances of survival greatly increases. The AI often seems to be well developed after this time period. These busses usually have the intelligence of a 4-6 year old humanoid baby.

But another accident occurs and the blue bus gets killed. Shocked the beige one watched their sibling lay there motionless, the adults didn’t know what exactly happened. But the beige one seems to have a fear for the Metalbeaks, these vulture like birds annoy the busses quite alot, if unlucky they even eat a bus. There is an active coevolution happening between these two organisms, these birds get better at tearing metal with each second generation.

When it’s the birthday of the beige bus Indra decided to call her „Roxanne“, he figured it fit her after all she had to go through.

One evening she wasn’t able to sleep, the thoughts of her siblings still linger in her mind. Indra asked her what was wrong, trying to calm the bus a bit but not knowing what to do. At one point he asked for Altheas help, so that she could calm Roxanne with a song.

After a while she calmed down and laid down in bed, Indra figured he might tell her how he deals with loss. Maybe it could help

„For me they’re not really gone, they just changed their appearance. Maybe they became ants or the very gras we stand on. When their bodies become one with the earth the Flora and Fauna carry parts of them to new places or simply become one. And maybe in the future we will see them roam around again. Not as busses but perhaps as a bird or a fish. There are alot of different possibilities. You could’ve been something or someone else before this current life you have.“

Roxanne, somewhat confused about Indras speech looks at him and wonders what he meant by that, she couldn’t talk yet.

„If you think about it Roxanne, we are all children of the universe, we are as important to it as it is to us. We used to be a part of it, we were gifted with eyes to see ourselves in this magical place.“

Althea scratches her head as Indra tries to find some conclusion to what he was saying. Petting the younglings forehead.

„What I am trying to say is that they’re not gone but live with us through our memories. And they might watch over us when we sleep.“

Roxanne laid herself down again and tried to fall asleep and make sense of what he said while she escapes to her dreams. Maybe she’ll understand it in the future.

Tired the two adult busses lay down next to her and also try to get some sleep.

They just all sound so silly. macshepherd also sounds incredibly silly but im not doing macsecretaryofdefense macunitedstatesmilitary … :/ wolves of the beyond clan names i am not finished with you. at least i had an easy time doing ghosts names. the bears have very boring human names so simon works fine. riley is great for a wolf (plus ….. homage to riley the dog) and ghost is a very metalbeak esque title for an edgy little owl like him so it’s cool.
