downloaded some biology & zoology textbooks... I think I want to study it for-real a little bit. That very very long post I made and didn’t post introduced me to the limitations not knowing it places on the kind of inquiry I want to do. Obviously, its on the very long term project scale (I havent even finished my metahysics textbook that I started last year >.< but maybe I can get better at textbooks as I go). It’s interesting how much of it gives me shivers because its talking about genetics, reproduction, evolution... things I’ve instinctually associated w/ rightist racism & antifeminism. I feel like I should be approaching it like Carl Schmitt. While that might be true of the ‘biological establishment’ I don’t think theres any reason to feel this way about the material in principle. But I realize that if I get over it and feel comfortable talking about it, my writing might give other people shivers for the same reason. Theres this fun article I read recently by this guy who left the humanities to work in scientific research because the enviornment was pretty hostile to his research focus (evolution & society), but then leaves science because all of the uninterrogated provincial assumptions in research questions drives him crazy. His conclusion was that both departments ought to exist & ought to be at each others throats, which is nice although isn’t a conclusion we could apply as non-academics. When your intellectual milieu is a secondary consequence of friendship & intimacy a need for synthesis becomes more urgent.
