One thing I noticed about modern AJR (mainly TMM) is that they got way better at not making their songs “popular-sounding”

Like Weak and Burn the House Down from TCD got so popular because they made them sound like popular songs.

They got better with neotheater but then went back downhill with OKO because they made Bang.

I swear, Bang is so overrated dude like I love the song but it did not deserve to be in like 30 commercials when it came out.

I think the reason TMM doesn’t really have any songs like that is because it reflects their personal experiences with their dad and everything that happened, so they didn’t really do that this time. I like it much more when they go with a more TMM approach, and I hope they continue doing this into their next album

(Also I understand that they’re going through a lot rn this isn’t a post about begging for more albums and songs I just wanted to bring this up)
