Was happy with the pricing of the movies here. First run movies at discounted prices. The theaters are small, but comfortable. I first saw a movie here in 1987 and it hasnt changed much, except the technology.What disappointed me were the lights that never turn off and when the movie starts nobody closes the doors (I went to the back and closed the doors myself, nothing I could do about the lights). How can one really enjoy a movie theater experience with lights in the ceiling shining down in your eyes.I came here for 3D, because ONLY the Dolby Digital 3D works for me, the crappy RealD 3D doesnt work nearly as well. Then as it turned out the movie I wanted to see was not being shown in 3D at all.I would go back again, but probably sit more towards the front away from the spotlights and open doors.

This place and staff has always given me a pleasurable experience and have gone on various days and times for the last 5yrs Even going during regular hours/days but frequent the senior/family days & hours. Been there during peak hrs & always someone at doors ready to go in and clean soon as a movie is over. Cant go to the Regals or Edwards and the like for top movies popcorn and drinks for the same price or less than what others charge just to get in the doors! Too bad Steve Crow had a bad experience, I have never seen or heard of such a thing all the times Ive gone. Im even greeted & asked where my friend is when I go alone. And acknowledged when Ive not been seen for awhile! Local theaters always best over commercial places anytime!

I see a lot of people complaining about the employees and the seats and screens. Download blackberry handheld software for 8520. I have never had a problem with any of the employees. They arent really friendly, but have never been rude to me or any of my kids. Sure it s small, but for the value, worth it for me. We could never afford to see a movie otherwise. If you get their saver card, you get a free ticket for every four you buy, even on family night. Plus you get free popcorn and free refills on popcorn and soda. Tip..go early in family nights, you will be in line for a bit, and it will fill up.

Dont be fooled by the price and Starlight brand. This place has almost nothing else in common with other Starlights. No reserved seating. No seats in the center (aisle runs down the middle). Small, dim screen. But the other Starlights (Triangle Square in Costa Mesa, Cinema City in Anaheim) have identical pricing and feature reserved seating, center seats, and larger screens, as well as having more total screens, more seats per screen, and nicer aesthetics. Go to those ones if possible. Those actually deserve the '4 Star' nomenclature.

Hate it. We came to watch sherlock holmes and half way through my lady went to use the restrooms and got kicked out cause the management said she was trying to jump movies. she had the ticket stub and she wasnt trying to jump movie.. she waited out side in the cold. while i was waiting for her to return. finally i went out side to look for her and i was very shocked to find out what had happened.. Never again will we ever come here again. Go some where else management seemed racist..

I go to this theater almost exclusively esp so that we could go bowling before or after a movie: $7 refillable (one time before the movie ends) popcorn, clean theater, good sound system, friendly staff. Prices are catching up to that of UA and Regency..$9/adult is more than at some other places; so we are pulling the reins a tad. Maybe it pays to be a frequent movie pass goer..then again, we should head out to the state parks and outdoors more. Head out and shape up, America!

The movie industry is my passion. When I was a teen I loved going to the cinema. This place is comfy, small and a great place to take out your girlfriend. However last time my girlfriend and I went everything was just dirty. Spit bubble gums, popcorn and smelly restrooms. Not a romantic experience at all. I hope they take some actions!

Considering that it is a 4 screen theater with regular old school seating, it is nice. The floors arent sticky, the seats arent broken, the restrooms are clean and most importantly..very nice staff. Great place to take my family especially since we are on a very tight budget.

Aquí os dejo esta divertida recreación en el mundo dulce del Sombrero Seleccionador que podéis hacer para una fiesta temática...o simplemente porque sí.  A los amantes de Harry Potter (AKA Potterheads) les entusiasmará la idea de abrir estos cupcakes rellenos y descubrir el color de la casa a la que pertenecerán. ¡Toda una experiencia! ¡Ah y lo más importante...están de vicio! 

¡A disfrutar! Y ánimo con la vuelta a la realidad ;)

Ingredientes:

Cupcake de chocolate (4 cupcakes)

60 g de harina normal

80 g de azúcar

40 ml de aceite de girasol

40 ml de leche

1 huevo

20 g de cacao en polvo (sin azúcar)

33 ml de agua caliente

Buttercream de 4 colores

150 g de azúcar glas

1/2 cucharadita de esencia de vainilla

150 g de mantequilla sin sal

Colorantes

Preparación:

Precalienta el horno a 180C/355F

En el bol de la amasadora o en un cuenco hondo bate el huevo (a temperatura ambiente) a velocidad media-alta hasta que tenga una consistencia espumosa.

Añade el azúcar y sigue batiendo un medio minuto más. Agrega el aceite, la leche y la vainilla y bate a velocidad baja.

Con ayuda de un colador o tamiz echa los ingredientes secos. Mezcla bien todo hasta incorporarse.

Añade el agua caliente y bate solo unos segundos más hasta que esté incorporado y tengas una masa brillante y ligera.

En un molde de muffins/cupcakes vierte la masa a partes iguales sobre las cápsulas de papel y hornea hasta que al introducir un palillo salga limpio.

Sácalos del horno y deja enfriar en una rejilla.

Para la buttercream bate la mantequilla sin sal atemperada a velocidad alta durante 5 minutos. Después baja la velocidad al mínimo y añade el azúcar glas. Cuando esté incorporado sube la velocidad de la batidora al máximo y bate durante otros 5 minutos. Por último, añade la esencia de vainilla y bate 2 minutos más.

Divide la buttercream en 4 bols y añade los colorantes hasta conseguir los tonos deseados (rojo, azul, verde y amarillo). Pon cada buttercream de un color en una manga pastelera con boquilla redonda.

Cuando los cupcakes estén totalmente fríos abre un hueco en la parte superior (puedes usar la parte de atrás de una boquilla para ello). Rellena cada hueco de un color.

Extiende un papel transparente sobre la mesa y añade una línea gruesa de cada color. Enrolla el papel y ciérralo (como si fuera un caramelo).

Corta uno de los extremos y mete en una manga pastelera con el extremo cortado hacia la boquilla.

Decora los cupcakes con la manga de buttercream de cuatro colores y coloca encima el adorno del Sombrero Seleccionador.

Ingredients:

Chocolate cupcake (4 cupcakes)

60 g plain flour

80g sugar

40 ml sunflower oil

40 ml milk

1 egg

20 g cocoa powder (unsweetened)

33 ml hot water

Four-Tone Buttercream

150 g icing sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

150 g unsalted butter

icing colors

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 180C / 355F

In the bowl of the mixer or in a deep bowl beat the egg (at room temperature) at medium-high speed until it has a foamy consistency.

Add the sugar and continue beating for 30 seconds. Add the oil, milk and vanilla and beat on low speed.

With the help of a strainer or sieve, add the dry ingredients. Mix everything well until well combined.

Add the hot water and beat just for a few seconds until it is combined, and you have a shiny and light mixture.

In a muffin / cupcake mold, pour the batter in equal parts over the paper cups and bake until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Take them out of the oven and let cool on a cooling rack.

For the buttercream, beat the unsalted butter at high speed for 5 minutes. Then lower the speed and add the icing sugar. When it is combined, increase the speed of the mixer to the maximum and beat for another 5 minutes. Finally, add the vanilla extract and beat for 2 more minutes.

Divide the buttercream into 4 bowls and add the food coloring until you get the desired tones (red, blue, green, and yellow). Put each buttercream in a piping bag.

When the cupcakes are completely cool, open a hole in the top (you can use the back of a nozzle tip). Fill each gap with one color.

Spread a plastic paper on the table and add a thick line of each color. Roll up the paper and close it (like a candy).

Cut off one end and put it in a piping bag with the cut end towards the tip nozzle.

Decorate the cupcakes with the buttercream and place the Sorting Hat decoration on top.

-Maquillate para que no te noten las ojeras y la palidez.

-Come gelatina diet, tiene muy pocas calorías.

-Fuma un cigarro.

-A ppartir de las 6 de la tarde procura comner menos y procura evitar las grasas y azúcares, ya que a partir de esa hora tu metabolismo cambia, ya que se prepra para dormir y

es entonces cuando intenta acumular más grasas.

-Mastica perfectamente la comida.

-Si masticas muy bien los alimentos, te mantienes satisfechas más pronto y aparte engordas menos porque la digestión se lleva a cabo mejor.

- Mantente en movimiento.

- Haz una lista de las razones por las que quieres adelgazar y llevala contigo para que la leas siempre que te de hambre. También puedes poner fotos de gordas para que pienses

en lo que no quieres ser...

-Siempre llévate a la boca cantidades de comida muy pequeñas y mastícalo bien, así te llenaras antes y comerás menos.

-Espera siempre 3 horas antes de irte a dormir cuando hayas comido.

-Cada vez que sientas hambre piensa en toda esa gente que se rió de ti por ser gorda.

-Suplementos alimenticios que contengan zinc y potasio te ayudan a incrementar el metabolismo y movilizar la grasa.

-Si te tienes que hacer unos análisis de sangre, estos trucos te pueden servir para tratar de aparentar que estas bien: bebe mucha agua y bebe zumo y come algún yogurt el día

antes del análisis y unas horas antes, toma bebidas isotónicas para incrementar el nivel de electrolitos.

-Cuando vayas a algún restaurante o te sientes a la mesa a comer con tu familia, o también cuando estés sola y quieras comer, lleva puesta esa camiseta que te queda tan ajustada o

unos pantalones que te queden un poco pequeños, así te sentirás incomoda y desearas adelgazar para que te quepa esa ropa.

-Bebe agua, mares y mares pde agua, cuanto más fría, más calorís quemarás. Además, te hace sentir llena, te purifica por dentro, eliminas líquidos y te quita el hambre...

Qué más podemos pedir??

-Cuando te de un ataque de hambre:

-Mírate en un espejo y juega a los 7 erores entre una foto de Kate Moss y tu imagen

-Bebe por lo menos 2 vasos grandes de agua fría

-Muérdete los labios

-Pon la tele corriendo y busca alguna srie en la que salga alguna modelo estupenda

-Si no puedes evitar la tentación, coge la comida que te haya apetecido, masticala muy muy despacio y escupela. Repite esto unas cuantas veces hasta calmar la ansiedad.

Entre mordisco y mordisco procura beber agua.

-Media hora antes de cada comida prueba a tomar dcápsulas de glucomanano. Se hinchan en el estómago con el agua y ayudan a disminuir el hambre.

-Come chicles sin azucar, te llenan el estómago, están buenos y quemas más calorías mientras los masticas que las que contienen.

-Come cuando haya gente delante. Así no podrán decir que no comes. Si sabes que tendrás que comer con gente procura no comer nada el día anterior, o comer sólo fruta y sopas,

así podrás comer algo más al día siguiente y nadie te hará preguntas incómodas.

-Cuando comas deja los platos sucios encima de la mesa. Así sabrán que has comido.

-Antes de comer di siempre la buena apariencia que tiene el plato y que te apetece comner. Después pon mil excusas(Está muy salado para mi, está muy soso, está muy hecho...).

Si no comes será por culpa de la comida.

-Lee todos los libros sobre Anas que puedas. Inspiran un montón. Eso si, procura que no te vean con ellos amigos, familiares... Preguntarán demasiado.

-Habla con Anas, entra en foros, apréndete de memoria las páginas pro.

-Mira como come la gente gorda. Quieres ponerte así?No, gracias.

-Duerme al menos 6 horas. Dormir menos incrementa el hambre.

Procura comer en plato de postre. Parecerá que has comido más.

-Toma vitaminas, no tienen ni media caloría. Eso si, abren el apetito, asique empieza a tomarlas cuando lloeves al menos 3 días de ayuno.

-Cundo consigas no comer, mete el dinero que te habrías gastado en una hucha.

-Mastica hielo. Eso te quitará un poco el hambre.

-Bebe grandes cantidades de té verde.

-Las mentas son excelentes para calmar el hambre.

-La cafeína es excelente, elimina el apetito, eso sí, no tomes más de 5 tazas de café por día.

-Come para vivir... No vivas para comer.

-Tomar limón en ayuno quema grasas.

-Toma una cucharada de vinagre de manzana antes de comer.

-Cuenta todas las calorías.

-Disfruta la sensación de hambre. Eso significa que estás adelgazando!!

-Come lentamente. El estómago requiere 20 minutos para sentirse saciado.

-Las bebidas calientes te sacian más rápido.

-Toma sopas instantáneas light, tienen sólo 30 calorías.

-Conectate con otras anas y mias.

-Ten presente que tu puedes hacerlo.

-No te abrigues, cuando tienes frío, tu cuerpo consume un mayor número de calorías.

-Cuando tengas hambre cepilla tus dientes, tómate una ducha, embellecete...

-Estate el menor tiempo posible en tu casa, el asunto es perder tiempo.

-Trata de comer menos de 500 calorías al día, de vez en cuano come más para que tu organismo no se acostumbre.

Why travel?

There are people who do not like to travel.  I know this is true because I once worked with a woman who wouldn’t leave Seattle except under extreme duress. I am the other sort of person, someone who loves to travel and does so at every opportunity provided my bank account can handle the expense, and to be honest, even when it can’t.  I won’t pretend that travel isn’t grueling at times and that I am often incredibly grateful to arrive back home.  But what draws me back, time after time, is the feeling of seeing the world through wide awake, fully engaged, almost childlike eyes.  

I’m not writing this blog to provide travel tips, or to tell you what to pack or where to go or which hotel is cheapest or coolest, or which restaurants have the hot chefs.  (Although if i happen across this kind of information I will share it.) I am just someone who loves that ecstatic, super-alive feeling that new places, people and experiences engender. I always keep a travel journal (I wrote my first during a family road trip from Iowa to California at age 14), take far too many photographs, collect far too many souvenirs, and get very swept up in the entire experience.  To take all this one step further, I have decided to share my travel experiences in this blog, Tropic of K.  

I’m starting this whole experiment by writing a few details about my recent road trip from Seattle to Mesa Verde to New Orleans to Chicago to Seattle in May of 2019.    

Now, I realize this trip is nothing special in the grand scheme of things – and pales in comparison to people who canoe down the Amazon, sail solo across the Pacific, or climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.  But so what? If I judged this trip by the reaction of some of my family and friends you might think I was undertaking something very nearly as daring.  What?  You’re driving solo from Seattle to New Orleans?  At your age?  I got all kinds of advice: buy a gun, buy Mace, at the very least buy pepper spray. Take a super-strong flashlight.  Don’t stay in hotel rooms with doors that open directly onto the outside. Don’t sleep in rest areas.

Oh please.

I planned for this road trip in general terms for over a year, but specifically not at all except for making a three-night reservation at Hotel Mazarin in the French Quarter two months before I intended to hit the road. But I started packing a month before my departure.

I’ve got a thing about packing.  I sometimes wonder if I travel in order to give myself the opportunity to pack, unpack, repack, plan to pack, make lists about packing.

Here is one of the lists I made for my trip to New Orleans:

· Two six packs of sugar free cranberry juice (to use when taking supplements and to maintain urinary health)

· Two gallons distilled water (for CPap)  

· Triptik and associated books and maps  (ordered from AAA 3 weeks in advance)

· New travel bag for electronics

· Walking sticks

· Yoga mat and assorted physical therapy bands and paraphernalia

· Yeti cooler

· Writing notebooks and laptop (with a goal of digitizing writing practice ideas )

· Old New Yorkers and Harpers (two to three years old – in order to read all the short stories before I throw the magazines out)

· Swimming gear (as a lap swimmer, I had hopes of finding public pools where I could swim)

I didn’t list clothes and toiletries and electronics as I take these every time I travel and didn’t need a list.

I’d had my suitcase open in the spare bedroom for a couple of weeks so I could toss in items as I thought of them.  I gathered supplements and medications, stowed electronic devices, cords, chargers. I packed clothes for warm weather and layers for cold weather. I packed toiletries, my mouthguard, my travel notebook, prescription sunglasses, a hair dryer and flat iron, two beach towels, two swimming suits, dressy clothes and casual clothes, a selection of scarves and jewelry, several kinds of jackets, wraps and hoodies. In addition to the shoes I was sure I would wear (flip flops, black comfy casual, trainers, and dressier sandals) I added two more pair of sandals, water shoes, beach shoes, and pale gray comfy shoes in the same style as the black comfy shoes.

I am more or less resigned to my inability to pack light.  One time, many years ago, I packed light for a long weekend and was miserable because I had to wear the sweaty clothes I’d been wearing on a  LOOONG bicycle ride when I went out to supper.  Never again.  I now pack as much as I can reasonably  (sometimes not all that reasonable actually) carry – and considering I had an entire car to work with for this trip, I packed with abandon.  

Note to self:  just because you have an entire car to work with does not mean you should fill the car.

El espacio que habitamos es un fiel reflejo de nosotros. Todos los elementos de decoración, la intensidad de la luz, el color de las paredes, los detalles en la cocina, la distribución y amplitud de los espacios dicen algo de nosotros. Inspírate, pero sé fiel a ti mismo y lo que esperas de un espacio. 

¿No sabes por dónde partir? Por más grande o pequeño que sea tu proyecto de decoración, hay cosas importantes para tener en cuenta. Una de esas cosas es la selección de colores. Los colores tienen la capacidad de estimular distintas emociones en cada individuo, por lo tanto, la definición de la paleta de colores predominante en cualquier espacio es clave. Hay colores que no son aptos para todos los espacios debido a su intensidad y proyección de la luz. A continuación, una pequeña guía de colores que más se repiten en las distintas tendencias actuales de decoración, y como usarlos según lo que quieras lograr de un espacio en particular.

BLANCO: Color propio de la tendencia Nórdica y Minimalista. Es un color neutro que da la sensación de amplitud y aporta gran cantidad de luz. Ideal para aquellos que quieren espacios unificados sin separaciones, como muros que den la sensación de amplitud. VERDE: Es un color que transmite tranquilidad y bienestar. No es propio de ninguna habitación en particular, y su amplia gama de colores entrega variedad de aplicaciones tanto para superficies grandes como para detalles decorativos, que evocan la naturalidad. AZUL: Fomenta armonía y paz. Es un color recurrente en los dormitorios en todas sus tonalidades. Es un color que relaja, pero también tiene la habilidad de entregar paz desde su tonalidad ecléctica hasta la más pastel. ROJO: es un color activo. Se debe usar con precaución debido a su connotación pasional. No apta para grandes superficies, pero sí para lugares de paso, como pasillos, o elementos decorativos que resalten. AMARILLO: Energía y vitalidad. Es un color que aporta luminosidad, en sus tonalidades menos intensas. Ideal para pequeñas superficies de decoración, como mesas o sillas. O para espacios como la cocina. NARANJO: Color cálido y acogedor. Perfecto para espacios de comunidad familiar como el living o la sala de estar. Su ventaja principal es que aporta mucha luz.

La decisión de colores tiene gran influencia en cómo se distribuye la luz en un espacio. Entender la importancia de la iluminación es clave a la hora de crear espacios armónicos.

La luz influye directamente en todo lo que se encuentra en una habitación. Desde los colores, los textiles, las texturas y la sensación dentro del espacio, logrando hacerlos acogedores o, todo lo contrario. Para eso existen dos tipos de fuentes de luz.

LUZ NATURAL: Su fuente es la luz del día, donde son claves elementos como ventanas, ventanales, tragaluces, y más concretamente, su tamaño y orientación. LUZ ARTIFICIAL: No contamos con luz natural durante todo el día, por eso tenemos que complementar con otras fuentes de luz, como lámparas y focos, que pueden proporcionar luz cálida, tonos amarillos o anaranjados, o luz fría, tonos azulados.

Un espacio mal iluminado puede acabar con cualquier intento de decoración. ¿El secreto para el éxito? Independiente del tipo de luz, para que un espacio esté correctamente iluminado idealmente debería tener 5 puntos de luz. Si suena un poco excesivo, confórmate con tener por lo menos dos. Una luz general y otra fuente de luz puntual acorde con el uso principal de la habitación. 

¿Un dato? Orienta una de las fuentes de luz hacia el techo. Esto hará que la luz rebote haciéndola más difusa y entregando amplitud y luminosidad a la habitación. Si quieres que la iluminación aparte de ser funcional sea un aporte en la decoración, aplica distintos niveles a tus fuentes de luz, así tendrás un tipo de iluminación dinámica que va a destacar todos los detalles de tu apuesta decorativa. Los colores y el tipo de iluminación generalmente responden o evidencian un estilo o tendencia en particular de decoración. Puedes combinar los distintos elementos que identifican cada estilo para crear tu propia versión. Este 2019 nos dejó clarísimo que la simpleza y el minimalismo se apoderaron de los espacios.

MINIMALISMO: Se caracteriza por la intención de simplificar al máximo y dejar a un lado todos aquellos elementos que no sean esenciales. La sensación de espacio es clave. Como sea que organices tus objetos y elementos de decoración, asegúrate que tengan espacio para respirar. NORDICO: Se caracteriza por crear espacios lo más confortables posibles, y que potencien al máximo la poca luz natural disponible, entendiendo que es una tendencia que viene de los países nórdicos donde hay muy pocas horas de luz natural. Para lograr esto el blanco predomina, acompañado de la calidez de los textiles, que tienden a ser orgánicos en su estado más crudo. Como maderas poco trabajadas, pieles, que no tienen que ser reales, algodones, etc. INDUSTRIAL: Elementos estructurales a la vista y decoración vintage. La decoración de estilo industrial se caracteriza por no ocultar los materiales de construcción y no tener miedo en develar las estructuras que habitualmente se esconden como vigas, estructuras de fierro, terminaciones poco prolijas, hormigón, etc.

La inspiración es clave a la hora de tomar decisiones y no es necesario seguir un estilo al pie de la letra. Inspírate y dale tu sello personal. ¿Te encantan los espacios amplios y las habitaciones sin fronteras? Donde la cocina se une con el living a nivel de terminaciones o el baño con el dormitorio principal adquieren continuidad por la similitud de sus colores en las paredes o texturas en los suelos. Aparte de decoración, hay tendencias en las distribuciones de espacios. Y amplitud es lo que estamos buscando últimamente. La inspiración no es solo en cuanto a colores o elementos decorativos. La decoración considera muchísimos más aspectos para lograr esa armonía y ganas de estar en un lugar, ya sea una terraza o una cocina. Paleta de colores, iluminación, materiales, terminaciones, distribución, todo tiene una intención. Depende de ti.

Sopa de Choros

De todas las sopas con productos marinos, puedo decir que la Sopa de Choros es mi favorita, pues además de que la puedo comer en cualquier época del año, ya sea caliente en invierno o tibia en verano, su sabor a mar no es tan intenso ni tan recargado como otras y su consistencia es ligera, para mí es más un caldo que una sopa.

Me encanta consumirla con unas gotas de limón y una rodaja de rocoto para darle un poco de picante, realmente exquisita.

Además los Choros o Mejillones, como se conoce en otros países a este molusco, casi no contienen grasa por lo que son perfectos para una dieta nutritiva, con aporte de proteínas y minerales, en especial el yodo.  Para que la incorpores en tu menú casero hoy compartimos su receta, estamos seguros que te encantará.

La Sopa de Choros es un plato económico y muy fácil de preparar, basta con conseguir Choros frescos, un poco de papas, cebolla, tomate, ajos y fideo. Vamos a prepararla para presentar un nuevo plato en nuestra mesa familiar. MANOS A LA OBRA!

Ingredientes

5 docenas de choros frescos

2 cebollas cortadas en cubitos

300 gramos de pasta de tu preferencia tallarín, canuto, etc.

3 papas cortadas en cuadrados medianos

1 to mate sin piel ni pepas picado en cubitos

1 cucharada de orégano

1 cucharada de ajos molido

Sal y pimienta al gusto

3 ramitas de culantro cilantro picado finamente

3 cucharadas de aceite

Elaboración paso a paso

Lava muy bien la concha de los choros, retira toda la arena pegada y otras impurezas, si es necesario puedes rasparlos con un cuchillo o frotarlos con una escobilla dura. También debes eliminar las barbas, que son pequeños pelitos que sobresalen de la concha.

Una vez limpios, ponlos en una olla con abundante agua hirviendo, deja cocer hasta que las conchas se abran (aproximadamente 3 minutos), luego retiralos de la olla sin desechar el caldo y con la ayuda de una cuchara, retira los choros de su concha, teniendo mucho cuidado de no romperlos, también retira las barbas o pelitos que pudieran haber quedado. Reserva los choros en un tazón.

En una sartén prepara el aderezo, calienta el aceite y dora la cebolla hasta que esté transparente, añade el ajos y dora un par de minutos, luego agrega el orégano (restregando con las manos para que se desmenuce) y el tomate, deja cocer por unos 3 minutos más. Una vez listo el aderezo vierte en la olla que contiene el caldo.

Coloca la olla con el caldo en la hornilla, cuando rompa el hervor añade las papas, deja cocer por unos 5 minutos y agrega la pasta, sazona con sal y pimienta al gusto.

Una vez que la pasta esta lista, agrega los choros y el culantro. Tapa la olla y deja reposar un minuto antes de servir.

LISTA nuestra Sopa de Choros!! Al servir puedes colocar en la mesa un poco más de culantro picado, rodajas de limón y rocoto picadito para que cada comensal se sirva a su gusto. BUEN PROVECHO!!

Historia de la Sopa de Choros

Durante nuestra investigación no hemos podido encontrar datos sobre como o donde nació la Sopa de Choros, lo que si pudimos averiguar gracias a mi tía abuela, es que para nuestros abuelitos era uno de los platos llamados “levantamuertos”, que es como se conoce coloquialmente a algunos platos, en su mayoría con productos marinos, que son consumidos por los noctámbulos luego de una gran fiesta, en especial con harto consumo de alcohol, con el fin de reponer las energías luego de la amanecida, de ahí el nombrecito. 

La Sopa de Choros definitivamente cumple con el objetivo, debido a que contiene hierro, calcio, fósforo y magnesio, que son grandes proveedores de energía, razón por la cual también se sirve en diversos puestos de comida al paso y sobre todo en los muelles donde los pescadores y personal de apoyo trabajan fuertemente desde las primeras luces del día.

Better Call Saul Rewatch, Part 4/30: Upon This Rock I Will Build My Church

Hero (Season 1, Episode 4)

This episode deals largely with identities. Jimmy is Saul Goodman, he’s Slippin’ Jimmy, he’s Howard Hamlin, he’s his own receptionist on the phone, he’s Tony Curtis in the bath scene in Spartacus, he’s a local lawyer and a local hero. It’s fitting that we open with a flashback showing young Jimmy using the name “Saul” for the very first time, and just as fitting that it’s done without fanfare: it’s tossed out as a half-joke. “S’all good, man!” Jimmy, in a garish, slithery-looking striped shirt, leads his mark down the alley where his partner in crime awaits. The unhurried pace of this sequence is very effective, suiting the stillness of nighttime Cicero and the low-key nature of Jimmy and Marco’s con.

The flashbacks on this show (with the exception of the corner-store one) all take place at night or in dimly lit rooms; here’s some good meta that touches on how Jimmy thrives in darkness. Is it significant that the first Slippin’ Jimmy con we see is one that wouldn’t work on an honest person? Jimmy needs a mark who’s willing to make off with the "Rolex”, thinking he’s got one over on the rube who settled for $1,580 in cash.

Afterwards, Marco is radiant with admiration for Jimmy— “I love watching you work”— but Jimmy says his talents are good for beer money, and that’s about all. Again: what would have happened to this guy if he hadn’t had to leave Cicero? This is not the face of a man who’s happy with where he is in life:

Back in the present, Craig and Betsy stand over a pile of money and stress that what they did was “for the kids” (sound familiar?). In substance if not style, Jimmy’s pitch to the Kettlemans bears more than a little resemblance to Kim’s pitch to Mesa Verde: “What are you gonna get from me that you won’t get from those other guys? Passion. Commitment ... If you’re with me, you’re my number one client, morning, noon or night. You call me, I’m there. I would be singularly devoted to you.” But Betsy isn’t swayed: “You’re the kind of lawyer guilty people hire.” Ouch. Exhausted and beaten down, Jimmy takes their bribe.

Nacho, now released, surmises that Jimmy tipped off the Kettlemans. I like that Nacho is as smart as Jimmy. I like that the show generally surrounds Jimmy with people who are as smart as he is. Jimmy counters that Nacho didn’t need any help making himself look suspicious, and Nacho stalks off.

As Jimmy launders his money, assigning stacks of cash to “consulting fees”, “research” and “travel expenses”, he constructs yet another alternate self, this one belonging to a narrative in which he worked for the Kettlemans.

We see Jimmy getting measured for an expensive, conservative suit, yet when the tailor steps out of the room, something wonderful happens:

But Jimmy isn’t just using his windfall to smarten up; he’s playing a long con involving a billboard exactly mimicking one of Howard Hamlin’s, ringlets and all.

Small brain: using your ill-gotten seed money to advertise your business

Galaxy brain: dressing up as your enemy, buying a provocative billboard that you know you'll be forced to take down, hiring a film crew, then bribing a worker to fall off the billboard so that you’ll get on the local news for rescuing him

“He’s… you know, a free spirit,” Kim says, having been dragged out of the office to look at it. She demurs when asked if she and Jimmy are still friends, which, tbh, is fair enough, given how Jimmy behaves around Hamlin (we’ll get into that later). There’s lots to think about with Jimmy literally dressing up as Hamlin, recreating his look down to the smallest detail. Once again he’s taking on another persona, albeit just to achieve a short-term goal. “What kind of lawyer are you going to be?” Kim will ask him in season 2. It’s a question Jimmy seems to keep asking himself.

In the midst of Jimmy and Hamlin’s clash, we get an early glimpse at the tightrope Kim is expected to walk at HHM. She shouldn’t feel the need to lie about who her friends are in order to stay in her boss’ good graces, yet she does, and later on she breaks off a friendly conversation with Jimmy to hand over a cease & desist letter. With Kim, BCS dodges the “successful woman has to choose between career and relationship” trope in favour of something much more interesting, a woman facing uncertainty and unfairness in both spheres. Kim’s relationship with Jimmy isn’t even the main reason she’s treated unfairly at work, and her allegiance to HHM isn’t what’s keeping her and Jimmy apart.

The billboard comes down, but not before Jimmy has himself filmed in front of it, first speaking to camera about the injustice he’s faced, then racing up a ladder to rescue the worker whom he bribed to take a fall. It’s fascinating to watch how Jimmy tells his story here. He hits all the right beats— patriotism, bootstraps, public service, the dream of owning one’s own business— and casts himself as the all-American underdog who “scrimped and saved” to buy a billboard only to have it snatched away from him. We’ll see Jimmy employ a lot of these tropes in his advertising later on; this is his skill at face-to-face communication writ large, but the foundation of the billboard con is his ability to create situations that he can manipulate to his advantage.

When Jimmy drags the worker back up onto the walkway and the two slap hands, we finally see his angle. Watching him on the news in the HHM boardroom, Howard mutters “whole thing’s a damn stunt” and walks off. Kim gives a little smile.

The one part of the situation that Jimmy can’t control is his brother. He has the foresight to keep the newspaper from him, but he can’t account for Chuck’s pedantic attention to detail. Of course Chuck will wonder why his newspaper wasn’t delivered; of course he’ll look outside and see that all his neighbours have theirs; of course he’ll deduce that there’s something in the paper that Jimmy doesn’t want him to see, and cross-reference this against what Jimmy told him about a sudden change in his fortune; and this, perhaps combined with the urgent care receipt that fell out of Jimmy’s pocket a few weeks prior, will concern him enough that he’s compelled to go outside.

The show has already tipped its hand re: the true cause of Chuck’s symptoms, but that’s almost beside the point here: what matters is that they are real and debilitating. As soon as he steps outside, he’s overwhelmed, his senses are deranged, and he nearly runs into the path of a car in his haste to get across the road. The chaotic, visceral sequence ends with a blackly comic cut to his neighbour’s perspective. From the outside, this proud, suffering man is just a crazy guy in a space blanket, scurrying back to his door.

Misc.

“You assume that criminals are gonna be smarter than they are,” Jimmy muses to Mike. “I don’t know. Kinda breaks my heart a little.”

IIRC, the billboard, which went up for filming in Albuquerque in 2014, was how we all found out Saul’s original first name.

A wall of glass blocks appears prominently behind Jimmy and his mark as they walk down the alley. Marco’s fake ID, in the name of Henry Gondorff, bears an issue date of July 1991.

What we see of Kim’s office is devoid of personal items, except for a pair of sensible sneakers on the floor.

Timeframe: this episode picks up right where “Nacho” left off and covers a period of about two weeks. The Albuquerque Journal is dated June 20, 2002; Chuck’s copies of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bear cover stories that were published on June 19th or 20th (they are “Israel Acts to Seize Arab Land After Blast; Bush Delays Talk” and ”Unhappy Returns: IRS Moves to Bring Back Random Audits”).

Young Jimmy offers to take his mark to a place “a couple blocks off Cermak”. He’s referring to Cermak Road, a major east-west thoroughfare that runs through Cicero, neighbouring Berwyn, and parts of southern and western Chicago.

French cuffs: double cuffs that are folded back and fastened with cufflinks; a very formal style

Club collar: a white collar with rounded points, created by alumni of Eton College who wanted their dress to indicate that they belonged to that exclusive “club”. All in all, the elements of Hamlin’s signature look connote wealth and sophistication in a formal, conservative way.

Jimmy refers to Tony Curtis’ appearance in a particular scene in the 1960 epic Spartacus. It’s worth noting that the scene, which features two men bathing together and some heavy innuendo about “snails” and “oysters”, was considered so homoerotic that it was cut entirely by the censors and only restored to the film in 1991 (source). You can watch part of the scene here.

Kim invites Jimmy to a screening of The Thing (1982), a horror film about a group of researchers in Antarctica encountering a parasitic alien entity.

While talking to reporters, Jimmy mentions Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, investigative journalists who covered the Watergate scandal.

The Groucho Marx mirror routine Howard refers to is this scene from Duck Soup (1933).

Rio Grande Gorge

The morning starts gloomy, both with inclement weather and the issue with Glenn's engine. We have breakfast. Then Jeanne and Jeanne head off with the dogs for a walk while Glenn plans to troubleshoot his engine issue.

Glenn's camper is built on a Mitsubishi Fuso truck. Glenn unlatches the cab and he and Tim tip it forward, like you sometimes see with 14-wheelers on the highway. Glenn examines the hoses. He notices one of them has shredded under the hose clamp on one end and is leaking a dark fluid. He grabs his tools, loosens both hose clamps, and reattaches the hose clamps around the good parts of the hose. (The coupling hose on the hot side of the diesel's intercooler, for you motorheads) He has Tim start the engine, and test by holding down the accelerator pedal to the floor. It works! Cancel the trip cancellation.

The women are overjoyed when they return. The gloom has lifted.

We headed for Taos, knowing we needed water. There is water at a visitor center there. Glenn and JeanneC are leading. They take a right turn away from Taos. What?

Orilla Verde Rio Grande Gorge. That is a promising sign. Glenn locks his hubs, we push the button for 4x4 and head down what might be the most beautiful road we have ever driven.

We get our first glimpse of the Rio Grande far, far below.

We come around another hairpin corner to see two bighorn sheep. I wasn’t filming, darn it, but they butted heads with a crack! that echoed across the canyon walls.

When we finally got to the bottom of the gorge, the road went back to paved and followed the river past many campgrounds and picnic areas to the visitor center of the Rio Grande Norte National Monument. No wonder the road was paved.

The visitor center had no water (winter is coming) but had some interesting informal exhibits. Finally, some info on the original settlers.

Then back up the scary winding dirt road. The bighorn sheep watched us carefully to make sure we left his territory.

This time we turned toward Taos, but we had to cross the Gorge again. This time we took the “High Bridge” on US-64 across the Gorge. We stopped to walk the bridge, look down, and take more photos.

We spent the afternoon wandering around Old Town of Taos, then drove up into badlands near Abiquiu, NM. Abiquiu is the town where the famous artist Georgia O’Keeffe had her studio. It was easy to tell why — the cliffs, spires, mesas, and shifting light were amazing.

Al margen de hacer un Candy bar o un lugar especial donde colocar ciertos alimentos, cuida esa presentación. Nosotros te animamos a que utilices diferentes tipos de accesorios y recipientes para colocar las bebidas y la comida (tarros de cristal para algunos dulces, frascos grandes de vidrio para algún mix de ensaladas o frutas, bolsa de tela de saco con una palita para servir algunos snacks, por ejemplo).

También te animamos a que tengas muy en cuenta la tonalidad. Hoy en día en las bodas están muy de moda los tonos verdes pastel, el color beige fuerte y dos tonalidades azules llamadas Deep Sage y Gray Willow.

Crea un entorno especial:

Tanto si vas a hacer la celebración en un lugar exterior, como en uno interior, te recomendamos que utilices adornos para bodas con glamour, estilo y exclusividad; como bien lo merece la ocasión.

En el caso de hacer un evento exterior o en un jardin te aconsejamos que tengas un espacio cerrado con una carpa, por si surgen algunos inconvenientes. Y ese espacio lo podrás decorar a tu gusto. Ten en cuenta que en una boda siempre destacan los centros florales, la combinación de flores, cestas y velas, también podrás decorar con unos banderines especiales de tela de saco que tengan mensajes sobre la boda, frases positivas, etc.

Ten en cuenta el color del mantel de la mesa, el drapeado de la carpa, los chandeliers e intenta que queden suspendidos los farolillos de papel de seda, rosetones o velas… Eso le dará un toque chic bastante elegante si se celebra al aire libre o en un salón.
