The updated mermen are here!! This took me waaay longer than it should have and I blame Van-eel-a's hair and our fish tails... and the fact I keep torturing myself by wanting to add extra details in my art work hrrgghh-

The area's merfolk are aware of Cetus' existence and instruct their younglings to stay away from this particular area of the bay.

This trio (the third was dragged there by peer pressure tbh) wanted to sneak a peek at the enclosure of this "giant mer with a condition that the humans are in charge of and we've been told to stay away from". Arion there got a lot more than he bargained for because he wanted to look cool (and also did not know Cetus was that big or close by. xD)

It might not be very clear from the drawing but that's a "fence" of batteries anchored to chains. Similar to how shark deterrents work. Very effective in keeping Cetus in.

Also keep in mind, the mers are speaking Mer so Cetus has no idea what's being said. Language barrier on top whoop whoop!

The way Floyd's entire mind and soul were basically crushed into mindless boredom by being perpetually stalked by easy success in his dream, never being given a chance to be enriched by hardship, challenges, or the thrill that tension brings him, really affected me in a huge way, alright?

It was for mermay but since I'm reposting everything I might as well bunch post all of those.

Did you know ? Octopi are my favorite marine animals alongside sharks and jellyfishes! Every time I participate in mermay I draw at least one octomer.

Did you know ? There are actually three plurals of octopus : octopi, octopodes, and the most common octopuses. Technically all three are grammatically correct.

Did you know ? Some octopi living in the deep are bioluminescent! Azul's eyes already seem to be glowing the one time we see his merform. What if his actual merform was more colorful/luminescent but at the time he was just covered in blot so we couldn't see it ?

Did you know ? The smallest octopi measure about one centimeter while the biggest can measure up to ten meters. Murray eels however measure between fifteen centimeters and four meters.

I headcanon that underwater, Azul is muuuuch bigger than the tweels. But on land, since Azul is of average size for his species, he is also average size as a human. The tweels on the other hand are big for murray eels, so they are also big on land.

(Did you know ? I know far too much random trivia about octopi you'd think I have AuDHD and an unchecked internet connection- wait.)

i got inspired by @meowmeowmeowmeow4x's lovely fic, Dark Blue Moon and the Suffering Sun! I don't think my depiction of danny is completely accurate to the story, but i looooved the description of his transparent skin with visible bones and organs and wanted to give it a shot!

Look I put some effort in his design so I'm gonna draw it again.

They tried to cut the net around his fin while he was sleeping. Unlucky for both of them it's extremely sore so he jolted awake, resulting in the biologist getting flung on top of him. His flight or freeze responses are currently duking it out. For the biologists' sake, I hope freeze wins. xD
