Have you written any of it yet?

Yeah! I have! I'll put what I have so far under the cut, but beware! It's unedited and terribly put together! And I also don't know much about lifeguards and am using google so bear with me! (The ~ means I skipped and haven't finished writing that section, I'll finish writing this someday! Maybe! Hopefully...)

It was a normal day for Caesar. A chill one, at that. Since it was winter, there were not many families out on the beach during Caesar's lifeguard shift. Suzi was next to him, keeping a look out on the waves. Seagulls cawed in the sky, their normal bickering as they swept up seafood with their bills.

In all honesty, Caesar could fall asleep right there. It wasn't like there was anyone at the beach.

The caws of the gulls suddenly turned into violent screeches. It was then followed by the shouts of angry men, approaching from far away. That was enough to get Caesar to jump off of the pole he was leaning on. He turned to Suzi, who turned to him. That wasn't good.

Hastily, the duo dashed down towards the water's edge. There, they saw the shapes of boats on the horizon. Huge, menacing shapes, like sharks across the sea.

And they were chasing something. Something with a tail, a shining, green tail. Possibly of a huge fish, or even dolphin. A rare one, at that. It wasn't everybody you saw a green tail of dolphin size.

"Poachers," Caesar stated coldly. They had to be. This wasn't the first time they chased a whale all the way to shore.

"After them!" Suzi shouted, running on ahead. Caesar nodded, following close behind.

The shouting from the poachers turned to screams of warning. Caesar braced himself. "Go away! My friend's already on the phone with the police, so you better run!"

Caesar would love to engage in combat, an attempt to finally get those poachers in jail once and for all, but they had a sea creature to look after. A beached whale only had minutes to live.

Suzi, having held her paddle board all the way to the beach, raised it above her head, ready to throw it.

Whether the threats of being caught by the police or Suzi's paddleboard scared the poachers off, Caesar didn't know. What he did know was that the poachers, after a minute of stalling, gave up. Hopefully they were unable to catch whatever they were going for.

"Good riddance," Caesar said, before turning to the last place he saw that green tail. "Now we have to see whatever they were hunting."

"I'll get the stretcher!" Suzi saluted. Caesar didn't even get a chance to respond before she ran off towards the land.

Instead, he followed the coast, weaving between the rocks he knew so well. Soon, a type of whining could be heard, along with small squeaks. One that sounded like a dolphin out of water, except... different. Deeper, but only slightly. Too slow to be a dolphins. More like whines than squeaks.

Finally, something came into view. From behind a rock Caesar could see that brilliant, green tail. Well, it was no wonder the poachers were after this creature.

Carefully, Caesar stepped around the rock. His eyes followed the tail upwards. Wait, that was...

The tail continued up before speckling into tan skin. Human skin. With two, muscly arms. And a further look at its head revealed brown, spiky hair. That was no fish.

That was a mermaid.

Caesar took a second to process this information. Mermaids didn't exist, right?! Yet, what was this in front of him?!

Not knowing what to say, Caesar approached carefully. "Are you ok?"

The mermaid turned to him. Its eyes were a mix between green and blue, shimmering like a paua shell.

The mermaid gasped, before its whines shifted into aggressive growls. It scraped at the sand around it with its hands before thrashing its tail wildly. It was distressed, Caesar realised.

Caesar spread his hands out and crouched in an attempt to make himself less threatening. "Calm down! We're here to help you."

Despite the peaceful notions, the mermaid simply stared at him with wide, almost fearful eyes. It looked as if it was trying to swim away, just that it was on land. Its glistening eyes started to grow frustrated.

Carefully, Caesar crept closer to the mythical beast. However, the moment he took a step forward, the mermaid seemed to hiss at him. Maybe that wasn't the best idea.

To his luck, Suzi came running down from the rocks. "I got the stretcher-!"

Her voice cut out. Caesar looked up, only to catch her ocean blue eyes wide as they watched the mermaid.

"Suzi-"

"THE POOR THING!" She exclaimed, hurrying down the rocks.

From that day on, Caesar always had the feeling he was being watched. Gazes out to the sea were met with spiky brown hair and seafoam green eyes. In a second they would disappear in a splash of white foam.

Caesar always kept an eye out for these encounters. And it turned out Suzi did, too. Whenever she saw hints of the mermaid, or merman, as Suzi, she would instantly report back to Caesar. He found it odd that it was just the one merman (Wait, what if he was the only one of his kind?), who showed up everyday without fail.

Caesar looked out towards the sea again. His shift was almost over, as the sun started to sink under the horizon. Since Summer was ending in a few days, less and less visitors went to the beach. Caesar felt a cold chill rush past his body. Well, at least it meant less people to watch.

"Hey! Over here!"

An unknown, male voice. Caesar whipped his head towards the sound. That was coming from the water! Without even waiting for Suzi, he bolted towards the seaside. Without pause he hefted up his throw bag and rescue tube from the side of his station. He kicked up sand as he went, and as soon as he reached the water he flung his jandals across the shore.

"Woah, wait, chill!"

Right as he was about to jump into the water, Caesar stilled. The voice didn't sound panicked or anything. Just... calm. Ok, he could hear a brashness, but otherwise, calm.

Upon putting the rescue tube and throwbag down, Caesar took a good look at who was in the water. Aquamarine eyes and brown hair...

"Hey, heeeey, you good?" They, well, he, spoke. A tail of emerald green flicked out from the water.

Caesar's mouth hung agape. "You're... the merman. From the other day."

"The one and only!" A huge smile was on his face, a contrast to the frustrated look Caesar saw on his face the first time they met. He looked... quite human, actually. "The name's Joseph Joestar, by the way! But you can call me JoJo!"

"You can talk?"

"Rude! Of course I can!" Joseph laughed, a colourful laugh, one that was sounded so human that Caesar almost forgot he was talking to a brunette with a fishtail for legs. "And, I, got a mage in my village to place a spell on me, but! I understood you before that too!"

Looking back on their first meeting, there wasn't much indication of the merman understanding. "Did you really?"

"Ok, maybe I didn't understand you then either- hey, you haven't told me your name!"

Oh, right. Caesar had been quite rude. "I apologise. Let me start again. My name is Caesar. It's nice to meet you, JoJo."

basically after grian disappears from his position as a god he lives in disguise on "square earth" and eventually finds his fav human, mumbo! (the moon prophet)

being so detached from the land of the humans leaves grian really curious about almost everything (yes like the little mermaid but w mcyt gods)

so he's pestering mumbo w all his questions and just generally never leaving him alone, mumbo is slightly annoyed by this and tries to get him off his ass by giving him random objects to inspect or he starts a fire for him to stare at for hours

grian is naturally very warm (sun god tings) and mumbo is naturally cold being the moon prophet so grian sometimes just hangs close by to make sure he doesn't die of hypothermia (red winter era, very cold brr) even though mumbo doesn't mind the cold as much

mumbo also has no idea grian is the sun god (remember no human has seen him in this form other than his prophet) so he starts complaining to bdubs about this weird guy who keeps following him around and is too frustrated to notice bdubs giving him suspicious looks

Skz as Mythical creatures

Bang Chan - Werewolf. There's nothing to question here about this. Man literally gives so much wolf vibes that writers on Tumblr use wolf memes for his smaus. But also werewolves have been used throughout history to provide a sense of wisdom combined with misinterpretation. Wisdom, in the form of living and going through so much in their moon drunk lives. And like is that not Chan?

Lee Minho: A warlock. Warlocks are basically wizards who get their magic from evil sources. They conjure magic called 'blue magic' aka evil magic from shady sources and repay that debt with their own blood. They have been known to help people from time to time but only the people who need it the most, like a raped woman who no one believes. Oh also they are known to have cats as their companions! And they live very secluded lives usually in forests and grow mushrooms. My brain is dying thinking about evil warlock Minho cause my standards are so fucked up

Seo Changbin: A dragon. Listen LISTEN TO ME. I chose a dragon for Changbin, because they have many myths of false appearance. When I first got into skz, I really though our Binnie was the most serious person in this group. But then I saw how those hips moved, and I was like 'oh so he's Barbie and Shakira combined and put into one man'. Dragons are known as fierce creatures who protect the gold that they hoard and destroy villages, but how much of that is true? Mostly they do it to protect themselves and the gold which they have rightfully earned. Also they are extremely loyal and friendly once you understand them and don't harm their loved ones (yes even dragons have loved ones)

Hwang Hyunjin: Selkie. Selkies are basically mermaids, who originate from Scotish folk tales (trust me they are VERY popular here). They turn into seals in water and turn back into human if daylight or moonlight touches them, Aka if they come on land. They are very dual creatures, being pretty and kind to most humans, especially women, but they can also be the most savage beasts when it comes to men who have corrupted for their own pleasure. Their siren songs are very captivating and they are known to make art out of conch shells.

Han Jisung: A shapeshifter. Han Jisung is truly a puzzle. Like man could be intense babygirling one moment and then two seconds later literally kill all of us with wavy hair, sweaty face and those fingers playing the guitar finger kink go brr. Jisung is more fitting to the shapeshifter brand when you realise that the humans who used to be good at doing everything and not crack under intense pressure were awarded this shapeshifting power by the Gods. So yeah our fourth gen ace would definetly be a shapeshifter.

Lee Felix: A fairy. Need I explain anything? Need I even write an entire essay about this? (Already wrote it but fine). He would definitely be a healing fairy. Like he would whip up medicines and hide them in his delicious brownies to trick unwilling children into taking them (MY HEART IS TOO WEAK FOR FELIX HANDING OUT BROWNIES). He would def live in the woods in like a tiny cottage, which is decorated with creepers and vines and soft moss, where he rests his pretty wings, excuse me I need to write something on this.

Kim Seungmin: A nymph. Nymphs are actually more powerful than they are portrayed nowadays. Many of them were sons and daughters of river or tree Gods and they used to possess the quality of being able to fic someone in a trance with their voices. LIKE HELLO? MR KIM SEUNGMIN WITH THAT GOLDEN VOICE? Also they were known to be mischievous, always teasing pixies and fairies and taunting beings older than them. (I am not making this up yet legit used to taunt old trees for being so old and wise because nymphs never used to age or they would age VERY slowly)

Yang Jeongin: A vampire. Alexa play Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo please. I mean dude's literally immortal I'm telling you. He looks LIKE THE SAME PERSON EVEN WHEN HE WAS A CHILD LIKE HOW? If y'all look at me, I look like a completely different person from when I was a kid. And also there's something about our baby bread that just screams vampire vibes. Like he would totally live in a castle all alone, drinking blood and having foxes as pets.

Dunk shots are his specialty, but he can pull off about anything. Brings in the most fouls, though.

Ace (11) - Shooting guard

Heartslabyul, freshman. Twisted from the card soldier (Alice in wonderland)

Makes rash decisions but good at most technical things. Best freshman player NRC has had in a while, according to Kira.

Syrus (2) - small forward

Pomefiore, junior. Twisted from Si (Lady and the tramp)

Rather versatile, moreso than his brother, but mostly plays forward. Cat beastman.

Amber (3) - shooting guard

Pomefiore, junior. Twisted from Am (Lady and the tramp)

Twin brother to Syrus. Less confident with playing forward. Cat beastman.

Remy (Remington) (8) - Center/power forward

Scarabia, sophomore. Twisted from Clayton (Tarzan)

Prefers being forward, but has to sub in for Floyd when he brings in too many fouls. Has a temper problem not unlike Floyd.

Khan (67) - Shooting guard

Savanaclaw, sophomore. Twisted from Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)

Good with technical things. Punctual and logical, also tall as hell. Tiger beastman.

Ruby (16) - power forward

Octavinelle, freshman. Twisted from Tamatoa (Moana)

Has a (not really) friendly rivalry with Ace. Bulky and tall, so he does well as a forward.

Aries (29) - point guard

Pomefiore, sophomore. Twisted from Bellweather (Zootopia)

Makes up for his small stature with speed and jumping. No one really likes him tbh. Sheep beastman.

Mathan (12) - power forward

Savanaclaw, junior. Twisted from Mor’du (Brave)

Considered by many to be the “star player” along with Jamil and Floyd. Though, his reputation may just be because of how close he is with Kira, no one really knows if there’s actually something going on between those two or not. Bear beastman.

Pine (4) - small forward

Diasomnia, freshman. Twisted from Syndrome (The Incredibles)

Accident prone. A bit too confident on the court.

Kira - unofficial coach/former power forward

Savanaclaw, junior. Twisted from Zira (The Lion King 2)

Took over the coach role at the start of his junior year. Has a bit too much of an ego and is a bit too fond of his whistle.

So cesar, intruder and preacher and gabriel are deep sea mermaids, so cesars basically using bioluminescence and countershading to survive his eyes are realllyy sensitive and uncannily dark and wuite big to detect light and movement n all that jazz and his teeth are needle like almost so he comes off as quite unnerving but hes actually really sweet, and basically the only reason that cesar is able to come to the upper levels of the ocean is just because he got ahold of an object that basically allowed him to withstand lower pressures, also cesar is a longggg boi cuz deep sea gigantism go brr

Evelin and dave (and mark n sarah but only 1/8) is an open ocean mermaid so shes using countershading aswell but lighter and she is also really streamlined and hydrodynamic so she can catch up to random fish in the ocean

Jonah is a reef mermaid and hes realllyyy colorful to both camouflage amongst coral and warn others that hes extremely venomonous (so full of tetrodotoxin) and hes also really bendy kinda like a bendy straw to hide in cracks n crevaces

Ruth is a kelp forest mermaid and has like alot of kelp like patterns and fins to resemble kelp to blend in and she has pretty big eyes like not to cesars extent but good enough vision to see through the murky water when the currents kick up sand n shit and shes fast to kinda maneuver around kelp without getting caught on it

Thatcher is a cave mermaid his eyesight isnt the best so he often sticks by ruth so he doesnt bump into things but his other sensesnare really good so he has that going for him and he has tougher scales than most so he doesnt get badly injured if he has to get through a smaller opening in a cave cuz rocks jagged and he heals wounds pretty fast lol

Adam is unknown...his characteristics dont match up with any known species. His blood has more haemoglobin than the others and he has paler scales and better heat retention than others and he also has moments when it gets really cold and hes just out and about but gets kinda a tiny bit more sluggish when it gets warmer...

i also just took some time to process the siren thing- and thinking deeper into made me go "oh my god" <-(dweeb who's main go-to AUs used to be pirates/sriens/mermaids)

i can totoally see the sailors/sirens one morphing over time, like originally cronus would always imagine kankri as his first mate, his righthand man, and then once getting together with his critically acclaimed shrodinger's gf and drifting away from most of the group, he began to imagine kankri as more of a siren; a temptation that he must resist for the sake of his relationship, or it would be dooming-- although I'm 99% sure he didn't realize that's what his subconscious was doing, he prolly just went "oh that's newv, i fuck wvith it." because.. like.. pretty fishboy with a pretty voice go brr.

however, when he became reacquainted with the gang, kankri didn't go back to being his first mate in these fantasies like one would expect, but is for ✨️some reason✨️ still represented by a siren instead. in some interpretations sirens don't only lure sailors with their voices, but also with visions of what they want or desire the most, so maybe it has something to do with that. who knows, maybe sometimes he even imagines him onboard within a fishtank (whether or not it's comicially small is up to interpretation)
