As gnf learns to speak and sing english, of course he practices out loud. This gains attention from the people living near the ocean, and gnf is eventually found and taken in by museum curators for their aquarium (learn all about aquatic life and the recently discovered half-fish!) he has a large tank that spans from ceiling to the ground, with a small cave system and dying plants

Now, he’s read up on Dreams lyrics, of course. He’s obsessed. He never does stop thinking about this one human. So to keep himself occupied, he learns and sings his (dreams) siren songs (love letters). He’s a spectacle- they love his voice.

But Dream knows that song- those lyrics, that confession. He stops by gnfs tank, confused and frankly scared . But he sticks around until night comes and he decides he’ll com extra early the next day- just to try something

He sings some lyrics best he can remember to the tank, because of course he lost that page to rowdy waves- and when he thinks it might be a dud, well, a mermaids voice is anything but forgettable

Pirate captain Dream is captured by the king, in order to be pardoned, he and his crew must set sail on an almost impossible mission, to secure a mermaids tear to cure the deathly illness the king has contracted. But when this mermaid, or better put, merman starts to worm his way into Dream's heart, things start to change.

It started with a lighthouse.

It took a while for the lighthouse to get built. It was a particularly small and rocky island, and there'd been some crashes (none were fatal, thankfully) but there was enough trouble that the people decided the lighthouse was much needed.

It started really slow. Boats would come to the small island with materials and supplies, dozens of workers came along with it and they went on to work, slowly building the lighthouse piece by piece.

Dream didn't even notice it was there until it got high enough that he could see it during his regular flight over, choosing mostly to ignore the humans that are working day and night only to crowd into his airspace. It was rude, to be fair.

George noticed it way before that, however. Humans with their boats, crossing his swimming path, dumping shit into the water surrounding them, getting it a bit muddy and disgusting. Again, humans were kind of rude for that.

Sapnap is a lighthouse keeper (human, of course), and during one stormy night, he finds himself in a bit of a problem when a bird-man crashed into his lighthouse. He doesn't know anything about these people. His solution? Find the fish-guy and ask him for help.

Three months, four boarded and conquered ships, and one full season later, their search has come to nothing. George, Dream knows, is fairly certain that if they don't give up the search soon, the crew will be at each other’s teeth. Any sane captain would direct his crew to the nearest harbor or civilized town and let them run amok to dissolve the tensions.

Dream, however, is no sane captain.

or, the crew are pirates with no mercy, George is a selkie, and there is more to Dream than meets the eye.

George is a boy with bright eyes and stupid jokes and an even stupider laugh that makes Dream feel like he's drowning, but in the good way.

Ironic, considering how he's fallen in love with a mermaid.

George might very well be stranded in the middle of his bedroom, with his best friend slash crush due to arrive in less than ten minutes and a fucking fish tail attached to him, but everything was definitely fine if you looked at it from the right perspective. George, having fallen onto the ground the moment his legs decided nope, we’ve had enough and sold him to Fish God for one corn chip or some shit, was not currently able to get any perspective other than ‘lying on the floor’, but he would find one somehow!

Love Me Like I'm Human by Harper44 - Ongoing [1/?]

There on the other side of the glass is the merman, who remains completely still other than the occasional flick of his beautiful blue tail to stay upright. The creature floating there in the water is eerie in the vastness of the blue surrounding him. He understands now what Sapnap meant about his eyes. They look human. They look intelligent. Those dark brown eyes watch every move Dream makes as he eases off the ladder.

The merman's top half definitely looks human other than a few patches of blue scales scattered over his skin and the gills in his neck. Brown hair floats around his head, loose and soft-looking in the water. The tail is absolutely beautiful, shimmering in the light with each slight movement. It's sky blue and brilliant against the murky blue of the water.

Or, Dream makes friends with the merman who lives at the aquarium where he works.

I love your love letters au! Probably one of the most unique and creative mermaid aus I’ve seen in a while and your art for it is stunning! Have the two of them seen each other in the au or are they both unaware of each other identities?

for a long while in my au they don’t interact directly at all, but gnf is very aware of dreams existence

of course once gnf gets taken in by human researchers at an aquarium, then does dream really start to notice him, but only after gnf starts singing his lyrics does he tie the pieces together of , “oh, this is where all my work as been going, i’ve been accidentally feeding this mer my shitty love songs” and from then on dream gets attached to him, visiting nearly everyday when he can

I did have some sketches from a few months ago where I depict them talking thru the glass

Though i havent planned it all out yet, I do want Dream to attempt an escape for George- but we’ll see if I think of anything interesting enough for that
