Hello~ As promised, here are the 2017 versions of my Strawhat mermaid designs in comparison to the 2023/2024 versions. I originally had posted these to a different account, however I haven't posted any art on that blog in a long time, I think maybe since 2017? And now I don't really think of it as an art blog anymore. I originally started this blog so I could post the full and better quality versions of my art that I couldn't on Insta (cuz it SUCKS), but now I think I'll also post new stuff I come up with, instead of Insta being my main. Anyway-
To start with, as I mentioned in my last post, these designs were born from a specific AU in mind. In this AU, there isn't just one kind of merfolk, but merfolk were instead made up of many groups of different kinds of merpeople. Sharks, for example, were their own subgroup. Another example would be a group including aquatic mammals like whales and dolphins, and another group would be crustaceans, ect. I think in my first go at turning the Strawhats in merfolk I limited myself too much, like three of them were sharks and the others were just other kinds of fish. I do like Franky as a lionfish, but I changed him to a humpback whale to showoff more of the differences and similarities between the different kinds of merfolk. Plus, after the timeskip I think he's now canonically the slowest member of the crew, so making him a large animal that's been known to protect other species of animals from orcas seemed fitting, ya know?
With brook, he straight up was just some random fish that I really can't remember the name of, and I'm happy that this time around I did more research and found an animal that fits the spooky nature of his devil fruit. Overall, I think everyone got a glow up, but out of all of them I think Zoro's my favorite. I hate how I gave him that serious broody expression when it doesn't suit our beloved himbo idiot at all lol I feel the new version can be intimidating still, but also comes across as softer thanks to the colored lines and use of pinks and soft red. I don't know what I was thinking making Sanji primarily yellow, like his Wano outfit looks good but yellow is mainly his Germa color 😭 2nd time around I made him blue for his All Blue, and I wasn't sure if it came through, but I tried to curl and color his tail fins to make them look like crashing waves.
Unfortunately, at the time I drew these Jinbei wasn't an "official" member of the crew, so I hadn't thought to draw him. Also, I feel that I mistyped in the last post in regards to Vivi, by "original design", I was referring to the CANON design, not a previous design that I had come up with 😓
But yeah, I can't believe it's been seven years since I drew the first versions of these designs, I swtg ever since 2020 the years have just been blurring together lol

Finders Keepers
The second part of that dragon prompt. First part here.
I'm not gonna lie, simply existing felt hard these past few days. This cloudy autumn weather in the Northern Hemisphere does nothing good for the mood. I'm looking out of the window and it's raining again. But I'm getting by with good music and the will to get all my writing projects done. So, that's something, I guess.

“Pete?” Tony called out, his voice echoing slightly in the wide hallway.
The dragons’ massive lair, carved into the rocky cliffs of the mountainside, had lots of places for a little human to hide. Yet, Tony felt like he had looked everywhere.
“Peter?”
The spark of a familiar, gnawing unease rose within him. Yet, he tried not to let panic take over. The rational part of his brain told him he hadn’t lost the pup. The boy had to be somewhere.
He reminded himself that Peter, being an adventurous and curious little spirit, had a knack for finding hiding spots and exploring unfamiliar surroundings. After all, this place, although intimidating with its dramatic peaks and shadows, was every bit the playground for a child's imagination.
“Peter?” he called again, a little louder this time, and – finally – he heard a reply.
“Over here.”
Relief washed over the omega, and he turned toward the sound. It took him to the entrance hall. It was big enough to hold a dragon, even though both Stephen and Tony spent most of their time as humans these days.
When Peter had found out that dragons had taken him, it had been… difficult for everyone involved. It was hardly a surprise, since such a beast had destroyed his village.
Fortunately, he had quickly realized that Tony and Stephen had no connection to the green dragon he had seen on that day.
Tony looked around the entrance hall, which appeared to be empty. “Pete?”
“Look up.”
And Tony did.
The heart of the hall was dominated by a grand pillar that rose majestically towards the ceiling, bridging the space between the four walls through an intricate network of beams. Peter was sitting on one of those beams, his posture relaxed in an almost nonchalant way. He had one long leg drawn up to his chest, while his other leg swung freely, dangling over the edge as if he were perched high above the world, casual and carefree.
He waved at the omega.
If dragons could have heart attacks, Tony would have one right now – he was sure of that since his heartbeat raced furiously as he processed the sight before him. If Peter was to fall, there was nothing to stop him. Since he was a human, he didn’t have wings.
Which was a shame, really.
The boy had an insatiable thirst for exploration, climbing to new heights with ease. Peter’s desire to venture upwards was boundless, and Tony couldn’t help but admire that about him, even as a pang of melancholy nipped at him. The omega knew the exhilaration that came from soaring through the skies. But Peter would remain anchored to the ground.
“How’s the weather up there, Spiderling?” Tony asked, his hands on his hips.
There was an easy smile on Peter’s lip. “It’s great. You should join me.”
There was no way the beam would hold the weight of a dragon. And he surely wouldn’t climb up there as a human.
“Actually, I came by to ask you if you can help set out the table for dinner. It won’t be long until-…”
As if summoned by his words, he heard the flapping of wings when a dragon landed outside, and he turned around.
Peter had heard it as well.
“Stephen!” he exclaimed excitedly and slid down the pillar – a bit too fast. Tony was most certainly having that heart attack right now.
He stepped in to soften the boy's landing by catching him, before he hit the ground.
“Easy, Peter. You have to be more careful.”
“I’m always careful.”
Somehow Tony doubted that, but the arriving alpha distracted both of them. The steps walking in were human; Stephen must have shifted outside. He was wearing robes as blue as his scales. And a red cloak on his shoulders, which had been a gift from Tony from back when they were still courting.
Peter ran to meet him and he threw his arms around Stephen's waist. “You’re finally back.”
“I am.” With a gentle chuckle, Stephen instinctively ruffled Peter's hair, though it felt somewhat awkward for him; he had never been one to express his feelings through grand gestures. His comfort zone was nestled in the subtleties of everyday interactions, the quiet moments layered with understanding. Still, there was a smile on his lips.
He looked up at his mate who was watching their interaction fondly.
This was what Tony had always dreamed of: a family pack.
“I got something for you,” Stephen told Peter, whose eyes widened with that information. Even more so when with a swirl of his fingers, a book appeared in Stephen’s hand.
The blue dragon had a whole library just down the hallway – books and scrolls were a big part of Stephen’s hoard – but while Peter was allowed to read most of them, they still belonged to Stephen and the dragon guarded them fiercely.
So, it was only natural when the boy asked for clarification. “It’s for me?”
Stephen nodded and handed it to him. It was a story about a prince and a dragon, who struck an unlikely friendship. When Stephen had found the book, he knew it would be perfect for the pup.
Peter ran his finger over the cover, bouncing on his feet excitedly. “Thank you so much!” He beamed at the dragon. “Can I read it right now?”
Since the boy raised that question and didn’t run off with the book straight away, he figured there was some kind of task waiting for him, and he looked at Tony, his head tilted in a silent question.
“If you set out the table for everyone, you can read it until we start dinner,” the omega told Peter, who nodded and rushed away to get over with the task as fast as possible.
Tony chuckled as he watched him leave, before his eyes went back to his mate, who was finally closing the gap between them.
“You’re back earlier than expected, alpha,” he purred, a teasing smirk on his lips. “Did you miss me?”
“You know I did .”
Stephen cupped his mate’s face – the familiar touch of trembling hands made Tony’s eyes flutter shut for the moment – and kissed his forehead.
The alpha didn’t like to stay away from his mate for too long. Not since that one day once when he returned and found Tony injured and both of them robbed. It had been a devastating tragedy from which he never really recovered. And Tony even less.
But that was in the past.
Stephen inhaled the soothing scent of his sweet omega.
Both of them were doing better nowadays. Especially, since the human pup had been around.
The dragon almost dreaded the news he had to lay to his mate. Yet, he knew he had to tell Tony. With a gentle motion, he lowered his hand from the softness of Tony's face to rest on his strong, reassuring shoulders. Their bond was built on trust, and in that moment, he needed to brace Tony for what he was about to say.
"I went to town," the dragon began, his voice steady despite the internal turmoil. "The one on the other side of the mountains, near the river," he elaborated while watching Tony's eyes closely. Tony’s nod was subtle yet affirming, a signal that he recognized that particular place. They had ventured there together many times in their human forms to make purchases or to trade things.
Tony’s forge back here at home was a testament to his skill, his crafted goods sought after by villagers who appreciated the artistry and strength that embodied each piece. The alpha dragon knew how popular his mate’s work was among humans.
Stephen continued. “I heard talk about some refugees, who arrived a few months ago after their village was burned down.”
Tony inhaled sharply. “You mean…?”
“It seems like some of the villagers survived the attack,” the alpha confirmed.
It should be good news. Yet, Tony couldn’t help but stubbornly step back, his eyes darkening.
His heart clenched at the thought. If Peter's parents were still alive, they would undoubtedly want their son back, claiming him and enveloping him in the familial love that Tony had tried to provide. Of course they would! Any parent would long for the chance to reunite with their child.
The weight of this realization hit Tony like a sledgehammer: there was a possibility they would lose Peter.
The omega dragon instinctively let out a low growl of frustration and sadness without even realizing it. His traitorous heart had become attached to the boy on that day he had carried him out of the ruins of the destroyed village.
Just thinking about giving Peter away felt like losing his own eggs all over again.
It must have been shown in his face, because Stephen's eyes softened. “We have to tell him,” he still tried to reason with his mate who was caught between the rawness of his emotions and the reality of the situation they found themselves in.
“We don’t have to do anything,” Tony snarled with the fierceness of a possessive dragon. He bared his teeth as his protective instincts surged, sending a clear message that Peter was his- a member of their chosen family, someone he felt an undeniable urge to safeguard.
Stephen’s voice was gentle but firm. “Tony.”
He knew that the omega’s anger was not directed at him. However, he could bear it. It was based on a grief they both shared.
“He deserves to know. His family deserves to know. We would want to know as well if anyone found our eggs.”
As fast as anger had flared up in Tony, it died away, and he sagged his shoulders.
Their eggs were most likely killed. Hunters were cruel like that.
Nevertheless, Stephen was right. Of course he was.
Tony sighed. “I don’t know if I can do it.”
Stephen hugged him and Tony buried his face into the crook of his shoulder and neck instinctively. The alpha’s strong arms helped to calm the ache in his heart. So did his words.
“You are not alone, my love.”
“I know,” Tony mumbled into the blue of his robe. “We’ll take him to the town.” Even if he hated the idea.
“I know the town near the mountain.” Peter suddenly spoke up and drew the attention of both dragons, who turned their gaze toward him. The boy stood in the doorway, his book clutched close to his chest as if it were a shield against the unknown. “My aunt lives there.”
It was apparent he had heard most of their conversation. Tony’s heart sank.
He took a step towards him, but then stopped, not sure if Peter would run away if he came too close.
Yet, the boy didn’t move an inch, looking equally unsure back at the two of them.
Peter, for his part, remained rooted in place, mirroring Tony’s unsureness. His wide eyes flitted back and forth between the two dragons, as if he were trying to gauge their intentions.
The silence stretched uncomfortably around them, until Stephen finally asked. “Why didn’t you tell us you knew where your aunt was?”
The pup had never told them a word about it. Deliberately so. Which was why Peter averted his eyes. “At first, I kept it a secret because I didn’t want to put her in danger,” he confessed, his voice faltering slightly. “I’m sorry… I know now you wouldn’t harm her.” Feeling guilty that he had even entertained the idea, he shuffled his feet. Until he heard steps coming closer and felt a reassuring hand on his shoulder. When he glanced up, he saw Stephen looking at him with understanding eyes.
“There is nothing to be sorry about.”
Peter wasn’t so sure about that. Especially, since Tony was still standing in the same spot a couple of feet away.
“You said ‘at first’,” the omega asked. “What was your later reason?”
Peter shrugged, his answer no more than a whisper. “I didn’t want to leave you guys.”
That made Tony finally react and move. Peter yelped, when the omega pulled him into a tight hug. “Silly pup,” the dragon scolded him, tearing up. “Did you really think you could get rid of us that easily?”
Tony knew he should feel guilty for the relief that filled him. Yet, he didn’t care. He was just glad he would not lose Peter. The pup wanted to stay with them.
He was so relieved he could cry.
“Your aunt should still be informed that you are alright,” Stephen said. “We can visit her together, if you want.”
“And then I’ll return home with you?” Peter asked even though they had already confirmed that.
Tony smiled at him.
Home.
“Of course, my little spiderling.”
“Okay.” Peter nodded, with a shy but happy smile. “I would like that.”

Ironstrange but make it from the movie 'Splash' (With Stephen as Tom Hank's character Allen Bauer and Tony as Madison?)
I am in love with my mermaid boy now.
Stephen stepped out to the deck of the yacht, closing his eyes and inhaling the fresh, crisp air of the sea.
Exhaling the breath, he stepped closer to the ledge, resting his hands over the metallic railing that looked out at an endless expanse of water under a night sky adorned with a thousand stars that glimmered like jewels, the soothing acoustic of waves crashing over each other and against their yacht being the only audible sound.
It was a breath of fresh air — literally — compared to the bustling, crowded city of New York, where you’d spot a twinkling star or two only on the luckiest of nights, where the air always smelled stale and noise followed you wherever you went.
Stephen didn’t really do ‘vacations’, never had time for such indulgences, what with giving utmost priority to his career as a doctor. But Donna had wanted this, had wanted to escape their busy life at the city without being reminded of any of the ache and associations to their past. And so Stephen had rented this yacht and hired a crew for a week, just for the two of them.
As he closed his eyes and relaxed against the railing, feeling the cool air melt away all the tension from his shoulders, he thought that maybe it wasn’t too bad to take a vacation every once in a while.
There was a barely audible, yet distinct sound of a splash in the water, prompting Stephen to open his eyes and look down at the source.
He frowned when his eyes caught.. something shiny right below the surface of the dark water for a second, but it immediately disappeared into the depths, the darkness of night only hindering his sight further.
Stephen scanned his eyes over the waters, wondering if he could manage to spot whatever it was again. He knew that this place was a hotspot for dolphins, but dolphins never traveled alone, so it couldn’t be that. Unless it was a lonely dolphin, which might indicate that it was hurt or lost.
And then he spotted it again — further towards the back of the yacht, the very end of a fin flicked through the water, flirting with the surface but not quite revealing itself.
A shiny, golden fin.
He was sure that it was golden. It had to be.
But it didn’t make sense. No fishes or mammals of that size were supposed to have such a golden, shiny fin. At least as far as Stephen knew, and he knew a lot.
What he’d just seen.. it was unnatural.
Wanting to catch another glimpse of the thing, Stephen walked down the deck towards the back of the yacht, eyes vigilantly scanning through the waters, wanting to see that creature, wanting to know what it was.
It was hard. Mostly all he could see was the darkness of water, the crests of waves reflecting back the light sources from their yacht. He strained his eyes, trying to peer inside the water.
And — there it was, the shadow of a large creature under the water, just barely visible with the water already being so dark. It lingered there, never peeking even an inch out of the surface, and Stephen found himself drawn to it, wishing that it surfaced, wanting to see more, and his steps continued along the railing by themself, then down the stairs of the stern, moving right along the unprotected edge of the swimming platform as he chased after the thing, never lifting his eyes from it. And then—
When he finally realized how far he had walked off, one of his feet was no longer on the yacht’s platform.
He yelped in surprise as he tried to bring his footing back to the platform, overbalanced, and fell sideways into water.
An ice-cold spasm of pain shot up his side which had hit the water, the teeth-clattering cold sensation immediately spreading to his entire body as he got surrounded by water. Only practice prevented him from trying to breathe and hence accidentally filling up his lungs with water. You need to get out, a small rational part of his mind managed to command him while the rest of him still struggled to overcome the shock of being suddenly drenched in cold water at night.
But.. where is surface?
His heart fell to his stomach, suddenly feeling like all of his remaining oxygen had been sucked out as he frantically looked around and realized, all he saw was darkness.
No, don’t panic. This was fine, he would reorient his sense of gravity in just a second and then he’d find his way back up.
Except, the water moved in uncoordinated waves, crashing into him, pushing and pulling him in all directions.
He couldn’t tell which way was up.
Panic surged through him as he tried to determine which way he was supposed to go, feeling his heart quicken with each moment that he stayed under the surface, hyper aware of how it drained his oxygen just that much faster.
He couldn’t. He needed to breathe. Reflex forced his lungs to suck in a breath, coughing when all that entered his mouth was water.
No. No!
Basic survival instincts kicked in, causing him to flail his limbs as he tried to reach the surface, still having no idea which was the right way.
He needed to get out. He needed to get back to Donna. He couldn’t die, not here, not like this.
He needed to.. get out..
As he fought the pull of unconsciousness, the last thing he saw was the shadow of a vaguely human body, and a beautiful, long tail that shone red and gold.
When Stephen came to, the first thing he registered was an unfamiliar voice talking away in the background.
“..m sure he’ll be fine, I mean he’s breathing alright.”
Stephen blearily blinked his eyes open, realizing his back was lying on a bed of wet sand. He turned to his side and immediately coughed, throwing up some sea water.
“Yeah. Oh look, now he’s awake too.”
Stephen heaved a couple of breaths as his mind came back online. A shiver came over his entire body. It was very cold, and he was very wet. He frowned, recalling that he’d slipped off the yacht in the dumbest way possible.
‘World-renowned neurosurgeon slipped off his vacation yacht and drowned.’
Yeah, that would’ve been the most embarrassing way to die.
He craned his neck, looking up at the source of the voice to see who was his savior—
And immediately choked at the sight of a buck naked man, sitting there on the sand completely unabashed, Stephen’s phone at his ear as he talked to someone.
The man only raised an eyebrow at Stephen. “You good there?”
Stephen quickly looked away, eyes instead looking to the sea. “Y-yes, I’m fine.”
“Stephen?” The voice on the phone spoke, loud enough for Stephen to hear and perk up at the voice of his sister.
“Donna—” he sat up, turning towards the man again, before remembering, ah. He looked away again, feeling his face heat up despite the rush of cold air against his damp skin making him shiver.
His unnamed savior, thankfully, passed him the phone, which he took without turning back to the man.
“What the fuck, Stephen! Just what in the world were you doing!?”
Stephen winced. “I.. slipped.” The excuse sounded incredibly lame in his tongue.
But between that and saying I was so distracted by some imaginary sea creature that I didn’t see where I was walking, that was probably the less humiliating thing to say.
“You.. slipped.”
“Yes..”
There was silence and then a tired, exasperated sigh. “Christ, Stephen, I was terrified when we couldn’t find you in the water.”
Stephen felt a pang in his heart, imagining what she must have felt thinking that she was about to lose her last remaining family. “I’m sorry. I’m fine, sis.”
“You better stay that way. And don’t you dare move your ass from that island, we’re on our way.”
Stephen blinked, realizing for the first time that he was in some island. He twisted his neck to look around — carefully avoiding looking at the unnamed man who was still sitting near him wearing nothing, for some reason — and found that the island was small, perfect for private resorts and the like, but it was entirely abandoned with nothing but greenery visible in the tiny expanse.
“I’ll wait,” Stephen told her, turning his gaze back to the ocean in front of him.
They ended the call.
“Well, it was nice meeting you, stranger,” his unnamed savior spoke, and from the shuffling sound of skin and sand, Stephen could tell without looking that he had stood up.
He sighed. “Could you put on some clothes?”
The sound of sand shifting under feet echoed, and oh god no.
The mystery man came to deliberately stand in Stephen’s field of view, and Stephen closed his eyes with a stifled sigh. “What, you embarrassed of my naturism, Doc? I thought you guys saw naked humans all the time in your hospitals.”
Stephen looked away, opening his eyes to look out at the other dark horizon. There was no point arguing with a naked man, even less so when the said naked man had saved his life. Somehow.
“Do I at least get a name?” He instead asked the man.
He could practically hear the other man smirking. “Sure.. if you can work up the courage to look me in the eyes for longer than a second.”
Stephen suppressed a growl. It was just a bait, he shouldn’t fall for it.
“Fine then. Thank you, unnamed person who likes to walk naked in beaches, for saving my life.”
The man laughed then, a delighted, amused sound. Somehow, it sounded like a melody to Stephen’s ears, his voice simply so rich and lively, like it was made to spread joy. “You couldn’t have sounded more unthankful, dragging the words out of your throat like that, Doc.”
Too focused on the mystery man’s voice, Stephen didn’t realize when a decent-sized wave crashed into the beach, sweeping over half his body in the process. He grunted at the sensation of more water washing over his already hypothermic body.
“Ah, shit,” the man murmured, prompting Stephen to look his way and—
Stephen’s breath hitched, his heart coming to a halt for a second at the sight in front of him.
The man was down on the sand now; where his legs had been, now there existed a long, slick tail, gold scaled gleaming beautifully under the moonlight, interspersed with patterns of red and fins of indescribable elegance.
Stephen could only watch slack-jawed as the tail moved, its motion as smooth and natural as any other sea creature with fins.
For the first time, Stephen looked straight at the man’s — the creature’s — eyes, and found then to be a beautiful, warm brown, with such a depth that Stephen thought that he could be lost in them.
He was a creature of ethereal, otherworldly beauty.
“You..” Stephen whispered, finding his voice once again. “I saw you, at the deck.”
His eyes grew guarded at that, the warmth of the browns suddenly vanishing. He turned away from Stephen, towards the ocean, and flicked his tail, sending himself towards the retreating waves.
“No.. wait!” Stephen called out, but he gave no indication of hearing Stephen’s call.
Within a second, the brilliant shine of the gold scales disappeared into the depths of the water.
Stephen stood on the beach all alone, wide eyes fixated on the spot where he had seen the last shine of a golden fin.

Marvelous Mermay: Starkfish
"The truth is...I am a merman."
Note: Most of my Marvel merfolk will not be this elaborate. The plan is for most of them to be quick sketch-doodles like last year. But some will get more attention than others.

Prompt: Alpha-dragon Stephen and omega-dragon Tony adopt Peter after the kid's village got burned down by other dragons that weren't part of Stephen and Tony's pack and they're both very protective over him, especially Tony because Stephen and Tony's eggs had gotten stolen years ago from hunters and Tony always had that guilt even though it wasn't his fault. (Tony was at the nest but he was too weak to protect them after having the eggs and Stephen was hunting during that time)
Dragon!Stephen my beloved ♥ (and dragon!Tony as well!) I covered most of the prompt. I couldn't squeeze quite all of it in. But I already have ideas for a second part...

Update: Part 2 here
Tumblr media
The smell of smoke was so strong, it made Tony snarl when he landed.
He looked around; the once charming village lay now in utter ruins. Buildings that had stood proudly, adorned with vibrant flowers and bustling with inhabitants, were reduced to charred skeletons and piles of rubble. The remnants of joy had been annihilated; a once-welcoming community, now turned to ash, devastated to its very core. What had not been burned had been torn down with force.
That was the work of a dragon.
Tony felt a deep well of anger rising within him, boiling just beneath the surface. And his heart ached for the lives that had been taken; carelessly wasted as if they were nothing more than mere objects. The anger turned into a guttural growl that erupted from deep within his chest, a raw and primal reaction to the sight of ruin before him.
He heard the soft sound of another pair of wings flapping as he felt a familiar presence land right next to him.
It was Stephen, who, having sensed Tony's distress, nudged him affectionately in an attempt to provide solace amidst the chaos surrounding them. His mate knew how much he valued all life and cared for it, and the gentle gesture was a reminder that he was not alone.
“Whoever did this, will pay for it,” Tony blustered. He took this very personally. The village itself was only on the outskirt of their lands. Still, an attack on this village felt like an attack on them.
“We will find them,” Stephen agreed; the face of the blue dragon just as grim as the red one’s.
It was rare these days for dragons to slay without reason. Wisdom and restraint were valued over impulsive violence However, there was nothing rational about this. This stank of blind rage and a senselessness that immediately turned their stomachs with a bitter aftertaste.
Disgusting.
As they walked through the remnants of burned-down houses, the soft crackling of shattered bricks and fractured roof tiles under their claws was a haunting sound. Each crunch resonated like a ghostly reminder of the lives once lived there. Dragon fire spared no one and nothing, and melted even the hardest metal. But maybe some villagers had been able to flee and thus survived.
“Stephen.”
The blue dragon looked at the omega. Tony had his head tilted, listening.
Stephen stopped walking and concentrated on their surroundings instead. Then, he heard it: the muffled sob of a human.
Tony walked towards it, down what used to be a street.
A part of a wall from one of the collapsed houses was still standing amidst the rubble. The sobs were louder over here.
Tony shifted into his human form; brown hair, amber eyes and a hint of red scales at the small dip between his neck and shoulders.
Stephen kept a watchful eye on their surroundings. Dragons were much more vulnerable in their human bodies, and they didn’t know what deadly surprises may still lurk around here.
Tony stepped around the brick wall and found a small boy cowered right next to what looked like it had been a cabinet or cupboard once. Now it was barely a few charred wooden boards hanging together by a few nails. The boy had his knees pulled close to his body, and his face buried in his arms, in an attempt to be shield from the world.
Tony approached him slowly.
At the sound of another presence, the boy paused, peeking out from his concealed position. When he saw the unfamiliar man, he tried to get even smaller.
“Hey buddy,” Tony stopped a few feet away and lowered down to appear less threatening. He offered him a guarded smile that radiated warmth and understanding. “You okay there?”
It was a rhetorical question. Of course, the boy was not okay. The dragon saw it in his big, watery eyes.
“I’m Tony. What’s your name?”
The boy bit his lip. “Peter,” he mumbled with a hiccup.
“That’s a nice name. Say, Peter, are you hungry?” Tony tried to coax him out, but the boy merely shrugged, clearly overwhelmed by the whole situation.
In the meantime, Stephen waited patiently, yet still alerted in case that other humans or creatures made an appearance.
Tony's steps on the gravel were familiar to him and Stephen didn’t need to look up to know it was him. But when he turned his head to him, the alpha narrowed his eyes. Tony was carrying a child in his arms.
As he took in the details, Stephen's heart sank for a moment; the boy looked no more than ten years old, his small body delicately nestled against Tony’s chest. A fleeting glance at the child's face showed an exhausted slumber - he had probably been through more than anyone his age should experience.
Still…
“No.” The refusal slipped from Stephen's lips instinctively. “We’re not taking him with us.”
“We cannot leave him here,” Tony said with emphasis.
Unwavering in his resolve, he met Stephen’s gaze with an intensity that left no room for compromise.
Stephen knew that voice of his mate; the omega wouldn’t accept any objections.
He sighed and nodded.
“Get on my back. I will carry both of you home,” he offered.
Stephen would do anything his mate asked him to – even bringing home a human pup.
