Last week I commissioned @wishfulsketching to draw my OC Mercurio for the second time! They’re so great to interact/work with, and I couldn’t be happier with this comm! I think the last one was in 2022, so it’s really cool to see how their style has evolved since then. I love how the smoke ended up looking, and the peek of stars from the underside of Merc’s cape! I’m super happy with the results, and highly recommend grabbing a comm whenever they’re open!

7. How did their sire treat them?

Since I'm following the Bloodlines storyline Gretchen is without sire and never got to experience the ups and downs of having one. They've had a romantic history together before his "sudden disappearance". In all those years following his embrace, he longed to leave New York, away from the chantry so he could share his gift with her far away in the west coast and remain there together for some time. So hypothetically, if he had survived the court meeting then he'd actually take his role as her sire very seriously without abusing it, practically treating Gretchen the same way he had been in life, although with a bit more authority. Though regardless, darkness would inevitably find its way to sway her through her newfound power.

25. How often do they cause a masquerade breach?

Very, very often. She's so careless, she may as well draw in a whole SWAT team. Whenever she feels like causing chaos, Gretchen makes sure to do it away from any Sabbat hideouts. Hunters and police would be a heap of trouble she wouldn't want to put her brethren through. Luckily she can prevent her identity from being discovered by activating Blood Shield and/or hiding away in the sewers.

33. Would they like to have a ghoul if they don’t have one?

Mercurio would've definitely been Gretchen's first choice if it weren't for Vaulderie preventing the creation of new blood bonds. After severing his connection to LaCroix, she settled for siring him instead. It took a bit of convincing before he eventually gave in. She's not the kind of Tremere who looks for scholars, but rather trusted friends to pass her blood onto.

Mercury, passionate suitor of Proserpina?

Another strange story tells of Mercury's unusual love for Proserpina. It may originate from the cult traditions of Phlya in Attica, a certain aged man and a mysterious woman are identified in late texts as Mercury/Hermes and Proserpina/Persephone/Hecate, as suggested by M. David Litwa in Phikola, a Mysterious Goddess at Phlya. The following unmarked passages are quoted from his work.

There is, however, a portico in this (city)[Phlium of Attica], and on the portico is inscribed a representation, (visible) up to the present day, of all the words which are spoken (on such occasions). Many, then, of the words inscribed upon that portico are those respecting which Plutarch institutes discussions in his ten books against Empedocles. And in the greater number of these books is also drawn the representation of a certain aged man, grey-haired, winged, having his pudendum erectum, pursuing a retreating woman of azure color [or: depicted like a dog/a dogfaced woman]. And over the aged man is the inscription phaos ruentes(Φάος ῥυέντης/Φικόλα),  and over the woman pereeµphicola(περεηφϊκόλα).  (Hippolytus, Refutation of All Heresies, 5.15)

3. Maurus Servius Honoratus (4th CE)

non nulli tamen quattuor Mercurios tradunt, unum Caeli et Diei filium, amatorem Proserpinae, alterum Liberi patris et Proserpinae filium, tertium Iovis et Maiae, quartum Cyllenii filium, cuius mater non proditur, a quo Argus clam occisus est, qui hoc metu in Aegyptum profugit et ibi invenisse primum disciplinam litterarum et numerorum dicitur: qui lingua Aegyptiorum ΘΕΥΘ appellatur, de cuius nomine etiam mensis dictus est.(Servius, Commentary on Virgil's Aeneid, 4.577ff)

4. Arnobius (4th CE)

Again, the first Mercury, who is said to have lusted after Proserpina, is son of Coelus, who is above all.  (Arnobius, Against the Heathen, 4.14)

5. Tzetzes (12th CE) There is a english copy in Topos, but it is translated by GPT

Tzetzes' scholium to Lykophron 679 indicates that Hermes had three daughters from Hekate (ἐπεισελθὼν τῇ Ἑκάτῃ τρεῖς ἔσχεν ἐξ αὐτῆς θυγατέρας).

In his scholia on Lykophron, Alexandra 698, John Tzetzes (ca. 1110-1180 CE) gives another version of our story from ancient tradition: 'Hermes attempted to force her [Obrimo/Persephone] while hunting. She growled (ἐνεβριμήσατο), making him stop his attempt.'

And passing the tomb of Baius, his steersman, and the dwellings of the Cimmerians and the Acherusian waters swelling with heaving surge and Ossa and the cattle-path built by the lion and the grove of Obrimo, the Maiden who dwells beneath the earth, and the Fiery Stream, where the difficult Polydegmon hill stretches its head to the sky; from which hill's depths draw all streams and all springs throughout the Ausonian land; and leaving the high slope of Lethaeon and the lake Aornus rounded with a noose and the waters of Cocytus wild and dark, stream of black Styx, where Termieus made the seat of oath-swearing for the immortals, drawing the water in golden basins of libation, when he was about to go against the Giants and Titans – he shall offer up a gift to Daeira and her consort, fastening his helmet to the head of a pillar.(Lycophron, Alexandra, 698ff)

6. Etymologicum Magnum (12th CE)

The Persephone/Brimo referred to in the story of attempted rape was widely identified with Hekate. In the Etymologicum (magnum) genuinum 263 (s.v. Βριμώ), we read that Brimo is Persephone who is 'also called Hekate.'34 In the same text, we hear another version of our story: 'It is said that Hermes, who fell in love with her as she came out to hunt, wanted to have sex withher by force. But she growled at him (ἐνεβριμήσατο). Terrified, he turned away. Hence she is called 'Brimo.'

Guidelines and Navigation for This Blog!

Hi! You may know me as Shade(or Zoroara but most call me Shade). I made a lot of Khr Ocs and wanted to share them! Here, you can ask them questions, give them items to see their reaction or any other thing. (Almost all of these are going to be done in drawings so they may take a little bit of time to answer)

All posts are going to be tagged for the specific oc and will be trigger tagged as well. However, do expect the following: blood, gore, violence, body horror, dark themes and some things of suggestive nature. These are also okay for asks, but Ocs will not always respond well.

Time is relative for each, some are in the distant past of Khr, while some are ten years in the future. Not all of these people are even alive when you'd be talking to others.

Though, sometimes talking to others, will allow you to see and then talk to another's future or past self using [Future] or [Past] when it's been successfully unlocked. Some will have different ways to unlock this information. Sometimes, alternate versions may also be unlocked, they will have a special [code] to them added to the Summary. Also, sometimes other khr characters will show up or be mentioned, provided they know the oc well, I'll let you ask them things too.

Many of these guys are unreliable narrators and can be pretty secretive, sometimes they're just assholes for the fun of it, should the ask be something I think should be answered anyway, I'll put it in the read more. They will also slowly learn to recognize you guys as you send in asks, while anons will lack this(more because I sure won't be able to keep track). Additional notes, you can ask me OOC questions by writing (to shade) in your ask if you want, of course there will be no drawing to this. Also, you may send in an ask as one of your own ocs if you desire but, a. You must write their name as a signature(helps me keep track) b. first time asks will be treated as if it's their first time hearing of them c. Due to this mostly being very canon adjacent I will not be swaying all that heavily on canon lore or characterizations, so do note this. Also for similar reasons you cannot send asks as canon characters with actually defined personalities.

Events such as holidays and oc birthday asks take priority BUT must be sent in at LEAST a week in advance.
