Look these guys manage to be one sided love AND mutual pining AND slow burn despite having their first kiss like 20 pages or so into the first novel. There's a whole novella just about their misadventures trying to have sex for the first time which granted us the insane quote of: "I want to be the only thing touching him. I want to be the only thing that ever touches him again. I will be envious of every shirt he ever wears, the cuffs of his coats, the trousers going soft with wear where they rub his inner thighs."

Dressed to the Neins 2 - Percy

Ah No Mercival Percival, my beloved…

Rambly design details below the cut!

As I said in the video, the design elements that drew me to this pattern for Percy were threefold:

1. The central four-pointed star motif just really looks like jewellery - something off of a crown or out of the vault of some kind of European royalty. In fact if anybody here reads Girl Genius, it reminds me strongly of the family emblems Gil, Tarvek and Agatha wear at their throats.

2. Paired with point 1, the fact that there is this thin, meandering row peeking out from behind the central motif was too good to pass up - it’s so easy to read that as curse smoke leaking out from collar and cuffs, from behind Percy’s veneer of embarrassed nobility.

3. The last big one is these “trees”, which I took to stand for Whitestone, and symbolize its ruin and recovery.

When it came to picking the colours, this palette was pretty straightforward. The sapphire blue was first - that’s Percy blue. I knew I also wanted to represent Vex in this square, so that’s the peacock teal.

After that we had to have black for Orthax (fun fact - the only other characters to get the true black in their squares are Vax, obviously, and through him Kiki and Vex), silver for wealth and nobility but also the polished gleam of a gun barrel, and white for Percy’s hair and also the sorts of things white usually represents in (western) art.

Last we have brown, for the dying Sun Tree and the ruin of Whitestone, and then that particular shade of green, which represents both the fresh hope of newly budding leaves and is also a little radioactive-looking, representing the residuum whose production and export eventually restore the wealth and power of Whitestone as a seat of innovation and industry.

When choosing the colour placement, I put Percy’s blue + white at the core to represent past & future Percy - the young lordling with the bright future and the fully-fledged Lord of Whitestone, recovered. Also, the alternating rings of colour look like a target :D

Silver borders that, both because it reinforces the visual of a piece of jewellery and also because that way it sort of looks like looking down the barrel of a gun, if that gun was a…four shooter? Look I know that’s not a thing and it’s a stretch but my brain made the association and now I can’t shake it.

The sneaky row is black, of course, and the row after that, which actually obscures a lot of the black stitches by design, is Vex “take off the mask, darling” ‘ahlia’s teal blue. The last two rows of the centre section are silver and Perce blue for the man himself, and the way he builds himself back up, wraps himself in his coat and his dignity and keeps going.

I said enough already on the brown and green rows, so the last two are black (can’t ever truly shake that darkness, Freddie) and white - for healing, for peace, for hair that’d have gone white by now anyway.

2022 Writing Review

I've been seeing these crop up so I figured I'd do one myself lol

6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): I think its a tie between The Golden Sun and Tempest because mostly its my own plot with very little canon involved, TGS more so than T

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): Looking Beyond is something I wrote back in high school, I was sixteen and had a very different world view. And Harry Potter is very...white and straight.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received: @heartsalotofstuff always leaves me such lovely reviews even after I've sent her so many spoilers for TGS :D

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: Early into my diagnosis of cancer was difficult to really open my laptop at all.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: Writing Olivier Mira Armstrong in TGS was a challenge and she's still a struggle that I hope will improve

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: The Golden Sun, ch. 27

“What is it?” Roy’s heart had already fallen into his stomach. Maybe it was something to do with the Elric brothers, maybe the train back from Dublith had derailed and all of Roy’s broken promises would be burned into his lungs like ash on the winds of Ishval.

“It’s about Ed’s recertification, sir, it seems he’s chosen a battle assessment against the Flame Alchemist.”

The blood drained from Roy’s face and the rug might as well’ve been pulled from under his feet.

His crimes against Ishval…and she’d come knocking in the worst way.

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: I'm getting more into writing more sensual/sexual scenes, which wasn't something I was comfortable with doing before

13. How do you hope to grow next year: I'm not sure, just growth as a writer, in general

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer, beta, cheerleader, etc): @heartsalotofstuff

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: Ironically, Amy being debilitated from pain in Tempest, because I started writing that before I had cancer and before I developed chronic pain in my shoulder from a surgery (thanks, Dr. K)

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: Always be open to your weaknesses, that's what having a beta is all about. Someone who can check your work and tell you if something makes sense in the story.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I'm looking forward to finally get back to working on Crookedverse lol, that's been on the backburner so long that I've come up with a prequel for the series

like i love percy pls do not get me wrong. like would i die for him? of course. would i also kick him the balls? naturally. i just want to make sure i’m representing the true duality of the human condition as i write: i love percy with all my heart and i hate him with the passion of the sun.

"Hey Luka, long time no see! I'm doing alright for the most part with all this cool weather and dance practices..." Kurou says giving a courteous smile all the while Kita spots Luka and starts waving.

"Living my best life to the fullest buddy! I hope your doing alright as well, if you need anything at all you can call me."

"Luka ... is that really you? It's been so long..." Sung squints before laughing. "I'm kidding it's great to see you! I'm doing good! Are you as well?"

"Luka! Kita isnt all that reliable sometimes... He might forget your favorite snack and replace it with something he likes so then-"

Akio exclaims just as Kita jabs an elbow in his side making him wheeze and fall over.

"-that only happened because you didn't say what you wanted!"

Akio only dry laughs before waving.

"I'm okay, I'm okay, Kita-hyung is ruthless sometimes. Ow..."

Somboon finally after laughing at the two member's shenanigans sobers up waving.

"Lukaaaaa! We gotta hang out more I just successfully learned how to bake cookies so I wanna show you the ropes! Stop by soon!"

Why do I like BBC Merlin so much?

Honestly almost any rarepair with Merlin as a character works. You could tell me Merlin was involved with any one (if not multiple) of the Knights of the Round Table and I’d believe it. Better yet all the knights and Merlin date each other at different points and they’re all fine with it with no jealousy issues whatsoever
