Violetta S01E01 - S01E35

I started rewatching Violetta and Soy Luna again. It's crazy to think I was only 15 when I first watched Violetta, and it's been more than 10 years since then. I thought I would have the same experience watching it again, but I realized a few things while watching it with grown-up eyes. 

First, I'm going to talk about the plot a bit, and then about a few characters. This first post will only contain the first 35 episodes from the first season of Violetta 

The plot is still great; I like it. The only problem that I have is with the school, Studio. So we all know people like Leon, Camila, Maxi, and Ludmila have gone to the school for a while now; we don't have a certain time frame here. So how can Violetta and Tomas, two new students, join the same class they are in? How does it actually work? They also can compete to get the main role in the play they come up with, which also sounds a bit unlikely. Like, yeah, they are both extremely talented, but they nearly don't have as much experience as the others. What I also don't get is that Ludmila is clearly a diva and has behavioral problems, yet Antonio chooses her over Violetta. Yeah, I get that she is more experienced, but what did they expect? Then they lash out at her, basically being herself. 

Now let's talk about a few characters:

Violetta: I remember really loving her and relating to her when I was younger. She is still a lovely girl. I really like how she is trying to help everybody, and I truly think she is a selfless girl. She is a bit too naive, which can be annoying sometimes, but it has its own charm, and knowing her backstory, it is normal that she is that way.  While I don't like when people are lying, I can understand why she is afraid of telling anything to her dad. She is just trying to live her own life and do whatever makes her happy, and without lying to her dad, she wouldn't be able to do that; she wouldn't be able to live her life.  What made me really mad is how she treated this whole Leon and Tomas situation. I get that she is inexperienced and that later she started getting confused, but she was hurting both of them. It was really interesting to see the whole Tomletta and Leonetta thing unfold, because I saw it completely differently when I was younger. I never really liked Tomas and Violetta together; I don't think they had a solid foundation, and again, this constant "we almost got together, but we didn't" was extremely boring and annoying. I get that it was mostly because of Ludmila, but if they truly trusted each other, I think they could've "defeated" her. But I also don't think she was fair with Leon; he used him to make Tomas jealous; when she said to Tomas, they were together, but then a day later, she told Leon that she was confused. I get that she is; I get if she wants to be with Tomas, but using Leon to make him jealous or to foget Tomas is not fair. I know Leon had his own issues, which we are going to talk about later, but she was in the wrong as well.  All in all, I like her character; I get why she is the way she is, but I don't agree with those games with Tomas and Leon, even if it was unintentional. 

Tomas: I was never a big fan of him. I admit that I was always a Leon girl, but I think that he is a nice boy. He really tried his best, but he was way too easy to manipulate. He always thought people were better than they were actually, and most of them really misled him.  My biggest issue with him was how he handled most of his involvement with girls. I understood why he got mad at Violetta when he realized she was lying about her true identity. I also understood that he didn't want Violetta to suffer when he thought he was leaving, but he kind of dismissed Violetta's feelings and made a decision for her, which I hate. I don't like when people play the martyr. Even if he would've gone back, they could've given a chance for the relationship. They didn't even spend enough time to find out whether they would be a good couple or not. They could've gone on a few dates and seen whether it would work or not. I also hated how he handled the whole Ludmila thing. I get that he believed her a few times, but most of the time he failed to see through her. He rather believed Ludmila when the whole situation with his dad happened, based on what? He caught her lying so many times, yet he still rather believes her than Vilu. I'm not saying that the fact Vilu immediately "moved on" was okay, but she tried to pursue a relationship with him; she tried to convince him to give their relationship a chance, but he didn't want that, and then he gets angry at her because she is trying to move when he asked him to do the same. If he had told Ludmi at the very beginning that he doesn't want anything from her, maybe things would've been different. I'm not saying Ludmila wouldn't have been trying to win him over, but he could've stood his ground. I'd say the same thing about Francesca. Maxi told him that Fran likes him, yet he acted like he didn't know about it. You want Violetta, and only her? Then tell the others that you aren't interested in them. He truly gave mixed signals to both Ludmila and Fran.  All in all, he wasn't a bad character but he wasn't my favorit. I don't think he was that good of a guy most people like to portray him as.

Leon: As I said before, I always preferred him. I think he was really nice with Vilu; he was truly there for her. He really wanted to and tried to win her over. He didn't give up even when she chose Tomas, which could've come across a bit too much (it was sometimes; I will talk about it in a second), but I think Vilu also gave him a few signs she feels a bit more. It was just really sweet to see that he was really fighting for her, and how supportive he always was. 

But as I mentioned before, sometimes he was a bit too much. I get that he tried to come across as this self-confident dude, but him telling Violetta that he knows she's going to eventually choose him and how Tomas will always hurt him kind of gives me the ick. I still prefer him over Tomas, but he isn't perfect either. I also didn't really like the way he acted when he was with Ludmila, or when he agreed to participate in her idea of doing that video and uploading it. I liked how he tried to make it better and tell her that he wasn't participating and that he also tried to tell Vilu, but in the end neither of those things happened. I also felt bad for him a few times when Vilu told him she doesn't want to do anything with Tomas anymore, or when she said they are dating and then changed her mind a day later. I think neither of those boys deserved that. 

All in all, I still prefer him, and I think he is the person who changed a lot since the very beginning of the season (in a good person), but sometimes he was way too pushy, and way too much. 

Ludmila: I have to admit that she never was my favorite. I get that she wants to be the best; I get that she wants to get Tmas for herself, but she is taking it too far. 

Her hate toward Violetta is unhealthy, as is her obsession with Tomas. I get that she would do anything to achieve it, but still. Because of her, Vilu almost didn't get into the studio; she ruined Violetta and Tomas's first date. She is the reason people were bullying Violetta, and she even encouraged that behavior. Don't even mention how she treats Naty. She is a bad person, and I can't really say anything good about her; other than that, she is really pretty and talented, and I like a lot of the stuff she wears. 

Angie: I really like her as a character. She truly cares about Violetta, and she is always there for her. She is the reason why she got out of her room and started living her life. I however don't like that she is encouraging Violetta to lie to her father. Having said that, I know that's the only way she can do what makes her the happiest, and Angie just wants to be happy. I would also say that their relationship with Herman is a bit weird. I understand why they like each other, and I'm happy he is becoming a better person because of her. And I also know that Maria died a long time ago and that Angie was little when she last saw Herman, but it is still weird. Herman obviously doesn't know about the whole thing, so it's more about Angie than Herman. Besides everything, it is weird she is falling for him. 

Herman: He is a really complicated character. I get that he is trying his best and that he only wants to protect Violetta, but he's basically been controlling her life. She didn't have friends, never dated anyone, and never went to school. She basically has zero social life.  I truly think he thinks he is doing what's best for Violetta, which makes the whole thing even worse. I really like, however, that he is trying to be more open and let Violetta do some stuff outside of the house (thanks to Angie and sometimes Jade). I also don't like how he is always preaching about how lying is bad and that he hates when someone's lying to him, yet he has been doing the same since Violetta was little. Hypocrisy at its best. 

The other characters are okay; nothing too significant happened to them. I like how Fran was capable of letting the whole Tomas thing go and got to the point she was basically helping him and Violetta. Cami and Maxi are good characters with some flaws. Braco is funny, just like Napo. Even though Jade and Matias can be too much sometimes, and they aren't the best people, I have had such a good laugh because of them so many times. I also like Gregorio as a character; however, sometimes he is too annoying. I don't like how he treats the students, especially Tomas. Everything that has happened to him was an accident, and even before that, he already hated Tomas, but he isn't that bad, and he deserved better treatment. Pablo is nice; I feel bad for him because of Angie. I think that kiss was unnecessary, and the whole relationship lies as well. Angie should've thought about Pablo's feelings, especially since she's already known about his feelings for her. 

It was a good 35 episodes, and I will be back with the rest soon, but before that, I will make another post about the very first 40 episodes of Soy Luna.

the flashing lights were all around the red carpet. many influential and well-known people arrived to the premiere of one of the most influential films of the year.

"thank you so much for this interview, cristina." the journalist told the young actress. it was a very important event, as she was about to close an important chapter in her life. the show that exposed her to the entertainment world, the entire universe, would be over with this last film coming out.

maria cristina, more usually known as makis, was the promising rising star. since she was a child, all she dreamt of was becoming an actress, or a singer. now that she was known well for both, her world was on the rooftop. she starred in the very famous show, violetta, for three years and, as a final goodbye, the sequel film for the show was premiering tonight.

she met many new people this night, people she idolized even.

makis walked through the red carpet, stopping to pose for the cameras when asked to. soon after, her co-star and very good friend, jorge blanco, joined her for a few pictures as well.

there were more interviews to be taken, makis sometimes joined in by some of her other co-stars. as she was walking out to go to the room where the movie would be premiered, she didn't notice a few steps going up. she tried to balance herself, but felt an arm keep her from falling.

"thank you so much." she told the man. he looked to be in the higher 20s, had very curly hair, and was smiling from ear to ear.

"of course, anytime." the man said. he had an accented australian accent, one makis immediately recognized. a few seconds later, another male figure came up from behind the one who saved makis from complete embarrassment.

"daniel, we're supposed to be going in now--" this one was much younger-looking, almost makis' age. makis smiled at the new face (technically, both were new faces to her), when he had completely stopped talking when he saw who daniel was talking to.

"cristina, pleasure to meet you," daniel commenced, giving the unnamed one a few seconds to gather his thoughts. "i'm daniel, and mr. speechless here is max."

"pleasure is all mine. i'm cristina." makis chuckled, as they clearly knew her name.

"well, we should absolutely go inside." cristina had the feeling this was going to turn awkward, so she decided she would try to escape the situation as fast as she could.

"yeah. and, congratulations on the film!" daniel said. makis thanked him, and waved goodbye as she walked to the theatre room.

"you're gonna need some wingman lessons, verstappen." daniel sighed as he grabbed his teammate by the shoulders, taking the still mesmerized man inside the hotel themselves.

when the premiere was over, there would be a dinner only selected few were attending.

which is where makis was heading right now. she and her two close friends, jorge blanco and mercedes lambre, were riding in the same car to the restaurant.

"there's some friends i want you to meet, as well." jorge mentioned to makis, who smiled and nodded.

when they arrived at the restaurant, they stopped for a few minutes to interact with fans who were at the restaurant.

while makis was taking a selfie with one fan, she saw the same men who she had encountered before the premiere, daniel and max, walking in together, both laughing at something. she smiled fondly, it seemed they were really close friends.

makis walked in to the restaurant with jorge and mercedes by her side, and walked to the back of the restaurant. when they arrived, there were roughly around fifteen people seated, all chatting amongst each other.

when she saw who she was sitting by, she was not surprised to say she was shocked. it was her savior and his very un-vocal friend.

she was about to speak to them until jorge stepped in between. he greeted both men in the typical 'bro-hug' way, then turned to look at me and back at the two males. "makis, these are who i wanted to introduce you to. this is daniel ricciardo and max verstappen. daniel, max-- this is maria cristina."

of course. she knew she was recognizing them from somewhere. jorge was a big racing fan, she couldn't quite remember the name right now, but she was sure they were from that sport.

"pleasure to meet you, maria cristina." max stepped in front of daniel and grabbed makis' right hand, taking it up to kiss the back of her hand.

to say the shock on makis' face was very visible was an understatement.

"pleasure's all mine, max." makis mumbled, almost mesmerized. max let makis' hand go, and she thought it was too dramatic that her hand immediately went cold when he let go.

daniel only shook makis' hand, still being proud of his young teammate. he'll be even more proud if, by the way he taught max only twenty minutes ago, verstappen would leave with her phone number tonight.

"great, let's sit." jorge said, as the four standing (mercedes found more friends to talk to) sat down in the last seats remaining.

makis swear she noticed a small shove from daniel to max for the dutch to sit by makis. but she took no further note of it.

when the food was ordered, it was back to loud chatting.

"so, where are you from?" makis decided to make conversation with the dutch. max turned to look at her and smiled fondly. "i'm from the netherlands, but when i'm not racing in other countries, i usually live in monaco." max explained. makis nodded in understanding. "i've never visited monaco, even though i've toured in many countries." she admitted. max's head immediately started spinning with thoughts.

"well, we have the spanish grand prix coming up in a few days, and afterwards it's the monaco grand prix. would you like to come? i can have it all arranged for you." max immediately offered. he thought it was kind of lame that he spoke so rushed, as his excitement took over.

"i would love to." makis smiled. max mirrored the feature, and the two kept conversations going for the rest of the evening. somewhere across the table, daniel ricciardo stared at the pair, adding another successful matchmaker love story to his mental life accomplishments.
