At this point, the odds of survival are dwindling. Two days into having the world’s shittiest luck and you’re rethinking your life choices. You’ve made some dumb decisions and you haven’t been the kindest to everyone, but dying alone is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone. Especially in the boiling sun on a tiny ass island.

Palms trees sway in a salty breeze, shadows dancing across your closed eyelids. It’s almost peaceful but the hunger pangs are getting to be too painful, muscles losing their strength.

A loud splash. Waves crashing against the shore some yards away. You start dozing off for the nth time, but there’s a strange clicking somewhere. Another splash echoes.

Cracking up your eyes, you wait for the fuzziness to fade from your sight before focusing on the waves. White caps roll and disappear, froth bubbling away into the sand.

It takes you a moment to realize what you’re staring at when you find it. Red and white cutting through the dark blue—hair, followed by a pair of eyes staring into your own. You wait for the mirage to fade, wondering how the hell you’ve lost your mind this fast. But the eyes keep staring, you think one of them has a birthmark, maybe a scar but the face never leaves the water to see more than that. Guess mirage person doesn’t need to breathe.

You’re so tired, but you manage to push off the tree you’re leaning against, shakily getting to your feet. The eyes follow you, moving closer as you approach the waves. The sand leaves your feet as water crashes against them, cooling the skin there.

“Hello?” you croak, something tickling your chest as a nose is revealed, a sharp jaw and pouty lips.

“How did you get here?” he asks, swimming closer. “Humans don’t usually travel this far.”

Humans? Maybe this is your brain’s way of telling you you’re dying. You fell asleep and this is your last dream. Here, have a gorgeous man that makes no sense as a treat.

A wave swallows the stranger’s head before revealing him again, something big slapping the surface behind him. It’s a flash of red and white again, gleaming. You take a step trying to peer through the water, it’s clear enough that you should be able to see his legs, but nope. No legs. Just a giant fish tail.

“Humans,” you whisper, nodding. “Makes sense. For you to say that, I mean.”

“You’re not surprised,” he says, brow furrowing.

“I’m too exhausted to be anything right now,” you laugh. It breaks halfway through and your eyes burn like they have any tears left to shed. “You make for a nice dream, though.”

“Thank you,” he huffs, something of a smile rising, “but you’re not dreaming.”

You look down at your sunburned hands, cracked skin. Another hunger pain kicks at your stomach, forcing you to curl over for a moment.

“Yeah, guess not,” you groan, going back to sitting down. “If I haven’t gone completely crazy, is there any way you can help me out here?”

“Are there more of you?”

“No. It’s just me.” You squint. “Should I be worried? Are you the type that drown sailors?”

“I’ll defend myself if I have to, but I prefer not to kill given the chance.” He scans you up and down and for the first time in days you worry about your hygiene and how ungodly you look right now. “Your survival skills are lacking, I assume?”

“Wow,” you chuckle. “A rude merman. Who would’ve guessed.”

“I can get you food. There’s fresh water near the center of the island. I can show you where.”

“F-food first,” you nearly beg, hugging your stomach. “I just ran out of water this morning, but haven’t eaten in forever.”

“Alright,” he says and you think there’s empathy there, hiding behind his eyes. You think they differ in color, too. “What should I call you?”

“Oh, my name?” you mumble, letting it slide from your chapped lips. “What’s yours?”

“Shouto,” he murmurs, tail splashing as he turns. “You can call me Shouto.”

“Pursue the mer,” Momo said, as she reclaimed her place at the helm. “We'll pursue him to the edge of the world if we must. But he will be mine by the end of it all, mark my words.”

The crew turned back to their chatter, all of them going about their tasks with a renewed vigor. All of them were excited by the prospect of their new prey, and she was no exception.

Shouto quietly joined her at the helm, pausing for a moment before he rolled out his map. He flicked her ear unexpectedly, and Momo covered it with a hand, despite the flick not hurting very much. She cast him a questioning glance.

“You're missing an earring,” he said.

“Oh,” Momo said, dropping her hand as a grin crept across her face. “A surprisingly crafty mer stole it from me. I think I ought to get it back, don't you?”

“In that case,” he said, as he finally spread out his maps, “I better chart your course.”

9. Second and Third come across a woman sobbing on the beach, and investigate. Her name is Inko Midoriya, and her son was taken by a mer.

10. Now usually, the kids that Mers take are ones that are abused, abandoned, neglected, and so on. It’s kind of rude to just yoink a kid from their parents. Thus it’s kind of odd that this kid was taken. Well, if it was really a mistake, they could probably work out a co-parenting deal. Second and third agree to help her.

11. Unfortunately, after a few months, rumors begin to spread about All for One’s new son- one who almost perfectly matches the description for Izuku. Oh no.

12. The clan against All for One ends up trying to find additional mers to fight back and rescue the sad mer prince and return him to his mother. They recruit a bunch of humans, but aren’t enough to defeat the great king of the ocean by themselves.

13. The Cecaelia Kurogiri ends up regaining his memories as Shirakumo Oboro. He goes on a mission to find his long lost friend, who happens to still be alive.

14. Ever since his best friend was seemingly killed by Mers, Shouta Aizawa has been hunting down Mermaids in revenge. He helps teach a bunch of up and coming marine biologists at a local university. Most of the people there think the professor obsessed with hunting down mermaids is just slightly insane.

15. Some of them believe him though. Natsuo and Shouto Todoroki are both half mer. Shouto was born with the ability to shift between the two forms. Natsuo is human in appearance and abilities, but has a few behavioral traits of Mers (a love of swimming, raw fish, shiny objects, and a wonderful singing voice). They’re hiding from their father, a popular researcher with a secret love for unethical experimentation, disguised as normal humans. They’re studying under Aizawa, who hasn’t figured out their secret yet.

16. Yamada Hizashi ends up falling in love with a human after that human defeats Stain, a very murderous and carnivorous merman. Stain had been going after humans and mer alike, and had taken to hunting down Hizashi and his son Hitoshi. Unfortunately, that human is the mer hunter Aizawa.

17. Dabi, Toga, and Tomura Shigaraki are all mer who have sworn revenge on humans due to their respective terrible childhoods. Spinner is a human that really wants to be a mermaid. Twice is a merman who didn’t shift all the way, leaving his mind divided between his loyal mer self that’s been brainwashed into following orders, and his ex-mer hunter human self that really wants to kill mer. Compress is also there.

18. All for One believes Yoichi is dead. Ever since Yoichi left, All for One has been creating more powerful minions and experimenting with darker magic. He’s also been killing a lot more humans, ruining the reputations of mer everywhere. This in turn has created a whole bunch of mer hunters.

19. Most of All for Ones subjects have been brainwashed to his side with dark magic. Those that haven’t are too scared to disobey, or have given up hope of killing the king of the ocean. Most humans refuse to help mer due to the bad reputation.

20. Essentially, the average person believes mermaids aren’t real. Those that know of Mer tend to believe they’re monsters that kill humans without remorse. There are only a few people who both believe in mer, and trust them. In order to defeat All for One, humans and mer will need to work together, but that’s gonna be difficult.

ask game where Yoichi who lives in a small cottage on the beach one day finds an injured mermaid (which is AFO) on the shore and decides to help it. It turns out to be the biggest mistake of his life.

Poor Yoichi, once again doomed after foolishly inviting AFO into his life:

Yoichi is a marine biologist. When he finds an injured merman with white hair and red eyes washed up on the beach, he immediately takes him home. Yoichi tends to the injuries and keeps him in a bathtub filled with saltwater. He does not tell anyone, because he assumes if merpeople have not revealed themselves to humans then they don't want to be known. Although Yoichi cannot speak the merman's language, he uses pictures to figure out that he eats raw fish.

As soon as the merman is well enough to swim, Yoichi sneaks him back to the beach. The merman grabs Yoichi's head and drags him under. Unbeknownst to Yoichi, he saved All for One, the King of the Mer. All for One is a cruel and tyrannical king who got injured in a battle against rebels. He feels grateful to Yoichi for saving his life, and has decide to express that gratitude by turning Yoichi into a mer.

Merpeople have no reproductive organs, so they reproduce by drowning humans. This process transforms humans into their own kind. Usually merpeople pick children, who are easier to make forget about their past. Sometimes merpeople will fall in love/lust with a human and decide to drown them. It's unusual to adopt someone as old as Yoichi into a family but not unprecedented.

All for One brings Yoichi back to his castle and announces that Yoichi is his new brother. Using magic, All for One erases Yoichi's memories. But it does not work perfectly because Yoichi is too old.

For many years, Yoichi lives with his overprotective brother in the underwater castle. Yoichi keeps having terrifying dreams of drowning. He also clashes with his older brother over his cruelty toward those he considers lesser.

One day a mer expedition brings back a microscope from a shipwreck, and it triggers Yoichi's memories of his past. He tries to run away. All for One locks Yoichi inside a dark trench to break his spirit so it will be easier to remove his memories again.

Second is a Cecaelia (half octopus-half human) and Third is a neried (sea nymph). Both of their people are enemies to All for One. They find Yoichi while investigating what All for One is hiding in the trench, and rescue him.

Yoichi never had any family to return to in the human world, and so much time has passed that the most of the people he knew have died of old age. But he finds happiness with two new loves, living in freedom.
