Clean Feathers

Summary: Being an amphitere, preening is an important activity for Dick. And over the years, he has found many people willing to help him.

The crowd’s cheers came muffled into the back stage of the tent. The equestrian acrobats finished prepping their horses while the Flying Graysons added the final touches to their costumes.

Dick kept twitching and pulling on his unitard, excitement mixing with nervousness. He couldn’t wait to be on the trapeze: all the way up there his family and him would fly for the public, shining under the projectors. But the earlier confrontation with that Zucco guy still loomed at the back of his mind.

His mom finished tying a vest around his dad’s dragon form: their act all about defying gravity, so they tied their wings together to really sell the show and put the public on the edge of their seat. It was a routine procedure, but this night, Dick felt uncomfortable.

The youngest of the aerialist shifted into his dragon form and preened his feathers again. The repetitive motion always helped him get excess energy out of his body.

“You’re ready, Robin?,” his father asked as he approached the young boy.

Dick shifted back and nodded.

“Yeah.”

The man left out a hum.

“You really sound nervous.”

“I… just can’t stop thinking about the guy from before.”

“Our director took care of it, you don’t have to worry about anything, son.”

Dick’s dad ruffled his hair and gently hushed him toward his mom. He greeted the strong man as he came back from his performance when he saw an unfamiliar silhouette lurking near the technical systems. A chill run down his spine but before he could say anything, the ring master’s voice called their names. Dick took a deep breath, trying to ignore the feeling of doom in his stomach and focus on the show.

Dick snatched another pillow from a guest room. He stepped back intro the corridor on the tip of his toes, looking around to make sure no-one was awake, and swiftly made his way to the room he got assigned at Wayne Manor. The young boy struggled to call it his, but with Bruce allowing him to custom pretty much whatever he wanted, the place felt a little less… cold. But didn’t feel like his room, nor did the Manor feel like home.

The young man reached the door of the bedroom and opened it slowly to make sure it didn’t creak. Thankfully, the hinges were oiled and carefully maintained. The hinges in Dick’s trailer at the circus always made a small comforting noise whenever he used it. The boy dropped the pillow in his hands on top of the dozens spread in a loose circle on the bed. He climbed in the middle of the make shift nest and rearranged it to his likings. But as he changed to his draconic body and nuzzled in his space, he found his heart aching for more. The pillows smelled like lavender, not the stronger cinnamon. They were bare with no hand sewn patterns while the fabric was really dull in colour. They felt comfortable, much like any pillow, but… they also felt cold, absent…

Dick starter to pluck the feathers on his chest. He spread them around his nest, ignoring the pain stinging the bare part of his skin. The amphitere hopped they would bring more warmth, more softness… anything to make the ache of loneliness go away.

A whine escapes his mouth and his body shook as his sobs grew stronger. The young boy tried to stay as silent as possible, not wanting anyone to come. He wasn’t ready to deal with Bruce or Alfred. He wasn’t ready to deal with anything, the sorrow threading to burst his chest. He just wanted to be with his ma and pa, to feel their weight against him as he fell asleep.

A knock startled him.

“Dick, are you ok?”

The amphitere hissed and shifted to his human form. The wyvern’s nsane level go hearing really crept Dick out.

“Go away!”

The door slightly opened and Bruce poked his head inside.

“I heard you crying, I just wanted to make sure you’re ok.”

“I’m fine.”

Bruce stared at him. Dick stared back. After a few long seconds, Dick broke contact and hid in his pillows.

“I want to be alone.”

Heavy steps made the floors creak as Bruce approached him.

“Did you pluck your feathers?”

“Go away. I told you I’m fine.”

Dick hid his face in his pillow. He hoped the man would take the hint and leave but soon enough, he felt the side of his bed sink. The young boy turned his head to glare at the man before pulling a blanket over himself.

After a long moment of silence, Bruce’s weight shifted and he asked:

“Do you want tea? Alfred often brew me a cup of chamomile when I couldn’t sleep after my parents’ death.”

Dick hesitated, before peaking from his pillow.

“I…want cinnamon tea.”

Bruce nodded.

Dick got up and followed his guardian into the kitchen. The tall man quickly found the Alfred’s tea stash and pick out a bag full of the bark extract. As they waited for the water to boil, Dick sat at the large kitchen table while trying to avoid making eye contact with Bruce. The young boy shifted his weight around, an awkward feeling picking under his skin.

“Do you often pluck your feathers?” Bruce asked.

Dick stilled.

“No.”

“You’re feeling worse lately?”

“I’m fine.”

The boy put his arms on the table and buried his face. He could her faint drum of his mentor’s finger against the marble furniture while the whistles of the kettle grew louder. After a few more minutes, Bruce turned off the stove and fetched two cups before setting the hot drinks in front of them. Dick grabbed the cup, blowing air onto the hot tea. Once cooled down, he slowly sipped at the drink. It tasted almost like at home, yet something was missing… maybe sugar? He couldn’t remember what his parents added to his tea.

“I miss my parents.”

Dick’s words escaped his mouth after a long moment of silence.

“I miss… being able to curl under their wings. I…I miss playing with their feathers or… or performing with them!”

His voice grew louder with despair like the pain in his chest.

“I want them to be there ! I want to be on stage by their side! I want them to preen me and sing me top sleep!”

Dick sobbed and tried to wipe his tears away. His body shook and ached, his chest tightening under the pain. Soon enough, Bruce sat next to the young acrobat and grabbed him under his arm. Dick leaned into the man’s side, his cries growing louder. He whined as Bruce brushed a hand in his hair, a motion both his parents liked to do.

After a little while, Dick’s sobs receded, leaving his body exhausted and shaking. He sniffed and looked at the tea on the table, probably lukewarm if not already cold. Still he reached for it and finished the spicy drink. Bruce leaned to grab his own tea and the two fell back into silence. Then the man got up and the empty cups into the dishwasher. A deep feeling of longing pierced through Dick’s heart and the boy took a deep breath to ask:

“Can I stay with you tonight?”

Bruce turned to him with a surprised but sad expression.

“Of course.”

Dick’s guardian picked him up and made his way to his bedroom. The boy then decided to shift to his dragon form and wrapped himself around Bruce like he did with his dad. The man readjusted his grip and kept on walking. Once in his room, Bruce suddenly sat on the floor before shifting too. The large wyvern wrapped his wings around the small amphitere. The dragonet curled against his chest, the warmest point of the reptilian where his fire is created. And with the tip of his wing claw, Bruce gently went over Dick’s feathers to clean them from dirt.

The afternoon sun casted a golden hue over the Titan’s living room. Dick and his team, as well as a few other heroes, lounged in the lazy warmth of the headquarters after a long international mission across countries. The vigilante sat behind Donna as he braided her hair and helped his friend find a cute haircut.

From the corner of his eye, he looked around the room and all the heroes enjoying the evening: Garth, Victor and Garfield played a game on the extra large TV while Kory and Cassie happily chatted further away. Raven floated a few inches from the ground with a large book in her hands near Kon and Bart, who helped Tim remove the leftover pieces of his shedding. The drake clawed at the floor with irritation at the long process. Behind Dick, Wally and Roy were enthusiastically (but loudly) telling the latest exploits of their kids as they basked in a warm spot. Damian and Jon tried to catch their tails, and the two older heroes indulged in their game while still holding up their conversation.

With a content smile, Dick finished tying Donna’s hair and held one mirror behind her.

“This style’s better?”

Donna held up the second mirror and nodded.

“Yes! And can you take a few pictures?”

“Sure.”

The young man snapped photos with his friend’s phone until she turned around and asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Has anyone helped you with preening yet?”

Dick chuckled.

“Not yet, but it’s fine. I like helping others better.”

Donna shook her head and got up.

“Come on, you deserve some pampering too.”

“I’m ok, I swear I don’t need-”

A growl cut him short. Tim rushed in front of Dick and made a disapproving noise.

“You keep yapping about itchy feathers but you don’t do anything about it! We can help.”

“I promise you two I’m fine!” Dick argued.

Another growl. Dick looked at Donna who crossed her arms and looked at the vigilante with a stern look. Wally popped up next to her with an identical expression on his snout, and the vigilante could feel both Roy’s and Damian’s glare drilling the back of his skull

“Ugh, fine.”

He shifted and spread his wings for easier access. The little group got together to clean the dirt from the few scales Dick had and remove the sheath still stuck to his feathers. For a short minute, a tug of sadness pulled at his heart who still missed his parents’ affection. But as he was being cleaned up, Dick soaked in the warmth coming from not only the sun passing through the windows, but also from the presence of his friends and family around him. Then the amphitere slowly drifted to sleep, happy to feel the weight a few others joining in for a nap.

You ever fuck up so bad, you accidentally kidnap someone?

Imagine, if you will, the players of our scene. Young Justice. Perhaps the Teen Titans. It matters not, really, only that they are young. Too young, in fact, for the booze they have smuggled in, to celebrate still being ALIVE.

They didn't think they would be, approximately seven hours ago.

They didn't think ANYONE would be, by this time, seven hours later.

The world celebrates. Families hug, children cry and laugh, lovers desperately reunite. They did it. They saved the day. Survived.

With new wounds and some fresh new trauma to show for it, too. Perhaps... Perhaps it is that. And the looseness of alcohols effect on the tounge. Combined with their new closeness... that gets them talking. Sharing.

Talking of skills. Training. Histories normally not mentioned. Perhaps even bitching about this mentor or that old teacher, and OH, weren't they a NAG! "Fundamentals~!" The magic user mocks in drunkin parody of their old teacher. "it's all about the FUNDAMENTALS! Practice circles until you puke!"

But...

Oh? Oh DEAR~

Drunks have such POOR impulse control, don't they? The Speedster scoffs. He doesn't mean harm. Truely, he doesn't. But to him? It is a constant irritant against sore skin, that his team mates have access to such powerful and strange powers... yet choose not too study them at ALL! Ask questions. That they haven't considered the advancements humanity could make if they just TRIED.

Everything has an answer.

Just because you don't know what it IS yet, doesn't mean it doesn't EXSIST out there.

But this is an old argument. They ALSO a sore spot for the magic user and (by the many gods they know better then to swear by) they are SICK of it! You- *urk!* You think you can do BETTER? Explain it then, Mr. "Magic isn't real"!

And oh dear, oh dear~

The usual mitigator has already fallen asleep. Passed out, really, having amongst other things, texted their Ex and decided they NEEDED to dye their hair. Which leaves no one to stop what about to unfold. As the Speedster slams down his drink, his hyper accelerated metabolism leaving him, ironically, one of the LEAST drunk in the room.

But... sometimes all you NEED to royally fuck up?

Is to be just buzzed enough to ignore your better instincts.

And the argument kicks up. Again. Heats up. Again. But this time? Goes further. They are standing, yelling, in each other's faces. The Speedster certain they are just "making things up". The magic user hissing that the arcane is a field of STUDY. A SCIENCE and ART. Just because YOU don't-

But?

Well... One must ask. Have you ever FOUGHT a Speedster? Can you even conceive of what a pico-second FEELS like? What the Speedforce, once active, makes the world LOOK like? It is like statues. Silence. Calling a timeout on reality itself.

You can walk away.

No one can really stop you.

You can walk out the door, up the stairs, to your friends room, and grab books from their shelf. Sit and read them. ALL of them. The whole shelving unit. In the time it took a fraction of a second to pass. Then get up, put everything back, go back down stairs, search for supplies, find them, and return to your conversation. Having studied everything they have in the building.

And for them? It's like blinking. You just... have the supplies now. Air is displaced.

And you're ready to fuckin PROVE it.

You looked up all the symbols they used. So NOW? You can use nonsense. No chance that ANYTHING will happen, right? It's not "official magic"! He says, talking over a buzzed magic user. Who's staring at him blankly, mind churning as they try figure out why... why it sounds like he's saying he's about to do the One Thing they were... told.. to never...

Oh God.

WAIT!

DONT!

But it's too late. Our dear Speedster has made his "gibberish" circle. Chanted randomly strung together magically charged NONSENSE. Then? Let her rip! See? Nothing happ-

The world seems to suck in it's breath and wind up, as though preparing to PERSONALLY punish such hubris. The magic user us screaming. Back! Every GET BACK! Move, move, MOVE! Green hisses and crackles from the circle.

As.

Reality.

CRACKS.

!!!BOOM!!!

Glass shatters and electronics are beyond salvation. The couchs many dove behind are shredded, but hold. Sections of the ceiling and floor collapsing. The Radiation alarm deeper in the base kicks in with a clicking wail. There is SOMETHING casting a looming shadow... and it has a CROWN.

The air burns like arctic winter wind and ozone.

Before anyone can think of what to DO, a harsh golden light rips open reality and out steps most of JLA Dark. The are standing in front of the now completely trashed Zeta-tube. Which they could not USE. They do not look amused.

"What. Did you. DO!?" Snarls an exhausted John Constantine from the front of the line up, his normal rougish face is still half bruises and the cigarette he's holding looks like it's the only thing keeping him from strangling someone. "We could feel that from FUCKIN SPACE! We're you trying to blow up the PLANET?!"

"Good QUESTION!" snarls another voice, from the direction of where the circle should be "Here's another one! Where the HELL am I and who are you people?!"

Every spins to look.

There, floating above the green glowing circle, is a teen in a crown.

So like, can we appreciate the different animated Tv shows interpretations of Dick?

OG animated series: He’s just a funny sweet goofy gaffy guy, ain’t he cute! Aww look at that face! until… oh… oh no… turns out murder was an option.

Teen Titans: Serious leader, will fuck you up, yet kinda dorky at times who keeps getting compared to Slade for some reason yet very much just acts like Bruce and is blind as hell. Also ✨TRAUMA✨:D

I love how absolutely UNHINGED this man is, but it’s fascinating seeing every interpretation leans more into one of his traits more then the others depending on whose writing. But the murder always stays.

My Dad can beat up your dad

Imagine if Ellie joined the Teen Titans (Cartoon Version)

When Trigon attacks, everybody is freaking out because how are they going to stop him? Raven is a kid, there are no other magic users around, and the Justice League is off world (idk what the canon reason is)

But Ellie is strangely calm

She mentions that her dad may be able to help, or at least be able to hold him back long enough for them to get help

Robin: How is your Dad going to stop THAT!

Ellie: Well, you know how I'm half ghost?

BB: Yeah?

Ellie: Ans you know how that one time the ghost we fought called me "Princess"?

Cyborg: yeah...

Ellie: Well the thing is, they weren't lying. My dad is the King of a Dimension called the Infinite Realms, and while he is young for a King he is still powerful.

So she calls in her dad, who is sporting the classic Ghost King Redesign, and he goes to hold Trigon back as the team comes up with a plan.

I don't like the "Insanely OP Danny" stuff too much, so for this let's just say that Danny can grow in size to be comparable to Trigon, and they have a Giant Kaiju battle in the middle of Jump City. He doesn't win, but he manages to hold on long enough for Raven to finish the Job

Also i really want Danny to start doting on Ellie, like really excited that he gets to meet his daughters friends and all that. He even pulls out some embarrassing Baby Photos from that time Ellie was reverted to her actual age.

Once he hears about Raven being Trigons daughter, he adopts her on the spot.

Raven suddenly has a new Dad, Sister, Brother (reformed dan), Aunt, Grandma and Grandpa (good parents jack and maddie) and maybe a new mom (Sam? Val? 3rd person?)

Basically I just wanted a "Kaiju Danny vs Kaiju Trigon" fight

Since we know we’re gonna get the teen titan members, are we gonna get the Young Justice (I wanna see my fine man Aqualad, I had such a crush on him as a kid).

i hope to have as many people show up as possible without it being too crazy!! even if they don't meet peter directly they will be mentioned. rn im thinking of having a focus on dami and peter's generation (because dami seriously needs to be allowed to have hero friends his age), but peter will also be meeting quite a few many people on the older gens (i.e. Clark, Diana, etc in Bruce's gen, and then as many of Dick's friends as I can realistically have him meet)

Clearing up misconceptions and such about Tim Drake for all you non-comic reading fic-writers and people that just don’t know. Mostly chronologically

Under the cut, cause this is gonna get long ,,

While Tim isn’t my favorite batfamily member, or even robin in particular, he is the one whose comics i’ve read the most of and know the most about.

If i’m wrong about any of this, please let me know!

- Tim’s parents weren’t especially abusive. they were neglectful, as in leaving him with the nannies and sending him off to boarding schools when they were out of the country, which was frequently. also, they did love him. i don’t even know where people got the idea that they didn’t.

- Tim did not stalk the bats, until he noticed Batman’s grief-driven violence and decided to follow, photograph, and gather evidence

- he also didn’t just go up to Bruce and ask to be Robin, he actually tracked down Dick Grayson to the circus and tried to convince him to come back to being Robin. Dick drove him to the manor, and then found out Tim’s whole story.

then Alfred let him down into the cave, Batman and Nightwing got captured by Two-Face, and Alfred practically threw the Robin costume at him and they went to save Batman and Nightwing. THEN Tim told Bruce that he was Robin. (— A Lonely Place of Dying, Tim’s 13)

- Before even becoming Robin fully, Tim’s parents were kidnapped and held for ransom in Haiti by a man called the “Obeah Man” (“Obeah” translates roughly to black magic, I’m pretty sure). Batman finds them by following the people that were going to pay the ransom, and they were being kept in some underground place? I’m not sure, but it was really really hot. There’s a pitcher of water, and Janet drinks it, and Jack starts drinking it, and Janet dies near-instantly, and Batman smacks the water out of Jack’s hands but Jack still ends up completely paralyzed and put into a coma. (— Rite of Passage)

- Fun fact: Janet’s funeral was Christmas eve

- it’s only after his mother’s death and father’s hospitalization that he goes to Paris (keep in mind, Batman did not force him to go, Tim wanted to!) to train under Rahul Lama, and then with Lady Shiva. (Robin mini 1)

- he doesn’t actually get trained by Shiva in the run, but it’s vaguely implied

- Fun fact: Tim actually kills Lady Shiva once (i forget what the storyline’s called, but it’s somewhere in Robin 52-55 ish)

- OH YEAH, Jason Todd was NOT Tim’s Robin. Tim Drake has been Dick Grayson’s #1 fanboy since the circus. He could not care less about Jason

- Fun fact: early in his Robin career, he hallucinated Dick and Jason as Robin (even though Dick was very alive) giving him advice

- He had friends outside of YJ. Like his best friend Sebastian Ives, his friend Callie, his (ex) girlfriend Ariana Dzerchenko, and a good bit more.

- he started dating Steph as Robin while dating Ariana as Tim, but Ari and Tim broke up like the day after Steph and Tim got together (not because of Steph, Ari didn’t know Tim was Robin, but because of other stuff that happened. go read Robin.)

- fun fact: Tim actually didn’t have contingency plans for Young Justice/the Titans, because he actually trusts them, unlike his mentor. (this is mentioned sometime in Young Justice 1998, but I don’t remember the issue)

- Tim’s 16 (not 14 or whatever THOSE tim stans try to say) and on the Teen Titans, when the fabled and constantly over-exaggerated “Titan’s Tower incident” occurs. Tim is fully suited up in the Robin suit, he puts up a good fight with Jason (who is in an adult-sized Robin costume, by the way) until he gets knocked out. This fight leaves no lasting injuries on Tim. (Teen Titans (2003) #29)

- the whole Jason slitting his throat thing happens in a different comic. (Batman: Hush, i’m pretty sure, correct me if i’m wrong)

- Tim also kicks Jason in the nuts the next time he sees him, so there’s not really any hard feelings there.

- Tim’s dad finds out he’s Robin and makes him quit, and Steph becomes Robin. Then Steph dies and Tim’s school gets shot up and he becomes Robin again.

- Tim leaves Jack alone at their home to go find the man sent to kill him. While he’s gone, the man (Captain Boomerang) kills Jack. (— Identity Crisis #5)

- after Jack dies, Bruce offers to adopt Tim and Tim turns him down and creates a fake uncle. Batman finds out the uncle is fake, commends him on his good job of making a fake uncle, and helps him make it better. Bruce later offers again to adopt Tim and he accepts. Damian literally shows up like the very issue after this in Batman

- Kon dies, then Bart dies a bit after. And, not to hate on yall TimKon shippers out there, but he also planned to clone Bart, and also in TT03 like 50-53ish, when him and the other Titans run into their future evil selves again, their Superman (Kon) and Flash (Bart) are clones.

- All those deaths happen relatively close together and in that order, I think, when Tim’s 16-17. But comic timelines are weird, like how Tim was 15 when the Quake hit and for the year-long duration of No Man’s Land (from New Year’s to New Year’s), he stays 15.

- When Bruce “dies” and Dick (Batman) makes Damian Robin. Damian needs guidance, and Dick wants him and Tim to be equals. Dick had good intentions and did the right thing! He just didn’t have the best execution.

- When Tim finds the painting and tells Dick about it, Dick DOES NOT THREATEN TO SEND HIM TO ARKHAM. He, reasonably (considering all the losses Tim has just faced) assumes Tim needs mental help and grief counseling, and recommends him a therapist in Metropolis.

- Tim decides to just go find evidence that Bruce isn’t dead by himself, and steals the Red Robin suit and runs off without even telling Alfred (Red Robin)

- Ra’s al Ghul sends people to kill Tim at first, but Tim obviously doesn’t die and breaks Pru’s nose twice. Eventually and reluctantly, Tim accepts the League’s help and resources.

- Tim finds his best piece of evidence in a cave in the desert with Pru, Z, and Owens. right after leaving the cave, an assassin attacks them, killing Z and Owens, slitting Pru’s throat, and stabbing Tim. Tim, ACTIVELY BLEEDING OUT, brings himself and Pru to the car they used to get there, drives to a hotel, CLIMBS UP THE BUILDING TO ONE OF THE TOP FLOORS WITH PRU WHILE THEY ARE BOTH BLEEDING OUT, and passes out on the bed, where Tam Fox (sent by Lucius to go find Tim) finds them. and so do a bunch of ninjas.

- Tim had to have his spleen removed because it was kebabed with a sword and was going to rupture. Ra’s also does NOT keep it in a jar.

- during the whole LOA part of RR, Ra’s is NOT preying on Tim. there is NO ROMANCE THERE. (no offense if you see it or think it’s implied, but to me it’s just really not?) its just RESPECT.

- with the whole bases exploding thing, its because the Council of Spiders was there and also he just doesn’t like the LOA. he gave them like 15 seconds to get out, obviously all the assassins managed to get out of the massive, complex bases in 15 seconds. (comic logic: if it’s not specified that it did kill them, then it didn’t.)

- the whole “Damian cutting Tim’s line” is also very exaggerated. Damian did it because of Tim’s “Hit List” and because Damian was on it. and Tim fell a few feet, caught himself, then fought Damian (neither won because Dick broke it up because they were literally right in front of THE alley.)

- not really a timeline thing, but in general, tim is VERY against murder. Part of the reason for this is Batman’s morals, which he built his own around, sure. But I think an even BIGGER part of his moral code is just to not become evil future gun Batman. And evil future gun Batman has no qualms against murder, he even killed Damian.

Sad unfair facts about Stephanie Brown

She deserves justice!

The first people that supported her as Vigilante weren't from the Batfamily, in fact they were from the Arrowfamily: Green Arrow junior and Black Canary.

Following that fact, she didn't get to keep them as friend and mentor since only Tim and later Damian got to be friends with Conner Hawke and only Babs and Cassandra kept a friendly relationship with Dinah but currently they never mentioned Stephanie again.

Another mentions of characters that she never got to hang out again because they never separate her from Tims and the Batgirls are: Huntress (Bertineli), they have polar opposite personalities but they got along and respected and supported each other and Supergirl, Steph and Kara became besties and had the best relationship in her run as Batgirl in my opinion but after that comic they never interact again and with huntress only interacts 2 times... They never let Steph have more friends than Cassandra.

Steph and Jason are the failure death Robins, were raised in the narrows, had drug addict mothers and criminal fathers... Steph actions reminding Batman about Jason being part of the reasons he fired her... And in Jason's return they wasted the opportunity of making Jason rub her death on Batman's face. Not to mention they still have to have "the talk" About their time as Robin's and no, that comic of the five Robins fighting against the "zero robin" DOESN'T COUNT, we deserve to see a proper emotional moment between this two sharing their common pain but we still don't get it.

Steph and Dick are the only batfamily members that had been described as "sunshines" and very perky chatters, despite that we never got to see proper interactions with them, Steph isn't biological or legally related with Dick but she has the best little sister material and together they have the potential to annoy the hell out of grumpy characters, yet the first time they properly interacted when she was Batgirl Dick was a jerk and after things got better they never had a moment together.

In the only comic were Steph was finally acknowledged for the first time as Damians big sister isn't a comic from the main canon and even though she became the Robin of Damian's Batman she died quickly but supposedly Talia was going to revive her... We never see them again in the comic. We never got to see the curious combination between Talia and Stephanie. We never get to see anything.

Currently in the comics (because im not counting the young Justice show) Steph never got to be in a superhero team outside the batfamily: she was well received by some Titans including Cassie who was surprised she wasn't there to join them and was in fact only there for "emotional support" For Tim, who i should remind you decided by himself that the Titans were out of Steph league 😑. She was mentored by the birds of prey out of camera but unlike Cassandra she never got the chance to officially join them, in the Robin's comic run in a simulation of what would had happened to her if she never followed Batman she became the leader of the Teen Titans only to confront Superman, lose and get the other members to never trust her again. There was an official idea that was never approved of a team that had Blue Beetle, Supergirl, Damian's robin and Steph's Batgirl and most recently another Idea of a superhero team with the flash twins, animal girl and mr terrific kid and sidekick with Steph as a leader... Was rejected too. They just WON'T give her a chance.

Harper Row took her credit once, what do i mean? In the new 52 a new young but not teen vigilante named blue bird was created and that version of Stephanie didn't want to involve herself in vigilante stuff unlike her original version, instead she was encouraged to do it that's when Harper gave her a speech about how she became one by herself without Batman having anything to do about it which is an absolute blatant lie because she became Bluebird inspired by him after he saved her and her brother. STEPHANIE BROWN is the one who became a vigilante without Batman's influence! She became Spoiler to spoil her father's evil plans, Batman just crossed paths with her, she wasn't inspired by him or was turned by him into Spoiler.

In her first interactions with Batman he didn't saw her as unskilled or incompetent for the vigilante life, he was simply worried she was doing things out of revenge and not justice and was just trying to guide her but later the writers changed this by turning her into a punching bag to receive an hypocritical exhausting amount of criticism, disapproval and contant remarks about her "lack of enough skills" and incompetence, constantly questioned and underestimated and no matter how much she trained it was never enough... It took her a run as the 3th Batgirl to stop that habit of considering her unfit for the job.

Steph never knew how much her death affected everyone and what is worse when she returned in that awfully lazy writing way the only reactions of characters seeing her alive we got to see were Batman's, Tim's, Alfred's and her mom and needless to say Batman's reaction was dry and disappointing but what is worse is that they never showed us Cassandra's reaction to seeing her alive when she was the one they showed us that suffered the most, not only one of the few characters that cried but she even hallucinated about her.

Catwoman first interaction with her was actually the sweetest and she even praised her and took a bit of her side in the gang war and really tried to help her. This sweet interaction was completely forgotten the second time they interact and the following interactions never felt the same again.

Her artistic qualities have been forgotten, the comics keep showing us how artistic is Damian or Jason's love for classic literature but they forgot that Steph was also good a drawing and a really good pianist, seriously she could have played the piano in one of those galas Bruce wayne goes, or she could draw with Damian, is it really that hard?

She had a bit of a toxic relationship with Tim in the pre reboot of the new 52 but after that they had the best relationship and for some reason that was the moment DC decided they had to brake up. Tim broke with her without a reason, ghosted her, got in a new bisexual relationship and when he finally decided to be decent and talk things out with her he introduced her to his new boyfriend without warning her or asking her if she was ok and on top of that DC made her react like a wattpad 13 years old cringe boys love fangirl and say that "this is the best they ever" because a "nice to meet you" wasn't enough and be angry and sad like a normal human being after all Tim put her through was out of the question because that would be considered homophobic on her part.

Her whole teen pregnancy arc (which im extremely grateful is not cannon anymore) wasn't to give her depth or make the character more complex and interesting no, that arc had the only tacky and cheap wroten purpose of making Tim and Steph strengthen their relationship by making Tim having to take her to birth class and be there supporting her when she had to give up the baby for adoption... All this shit for nothing, because they later tried to kill her off permanently and even after she came back they never allowed them to be fine together. Like i said? Im so glad is not cannon anymore, Steph didn't deserve to go through that.

Her trauma about her "almost death" Unlike with Jason's death and Barbara getting disabled is absolutely never addressed, as if the way she was brutally sexually tortured for days after screwing up a plan she thought would get Batman to respect her instead provoked a gang war that made her feel unbearably guilty wasn't enough to have PTSD because the one who tortured her was Black Mask and not the Joker, looks like if you aren't a joker victim your trauma doesn't count. Every one mentions the wheelchair and the crowbar but nobody ever mentions the power drill.

Cyborg, the Greatest Titan

(Titans (2023) #7- Cyborg shows why no one can bring him down)

So there was once a seemingly innocuous question asked on Titans Twitter:

Though some used it to prop up their faves, it turned into a serious and big discussion: Who is the Greatest Titan, epitomizing what it means to be a Titan the most?

There were a variety of answers, majority being one of Dick, Donna, Starfire, Raven, or even Wally. But what I noticed was the surprising lack of one answer: Cyborg.

One of the most popular Titans, whom DC clearly sees as one of the Titans Trinity (upper right corner):

Let me stop you right there.

A. It's a crossover. We are already mashing two or more different canons with different lore and mechanics together to try and form a cohesive whole. We are playing poker with UNO cards. We make our own rules.

B. Stories often need a POV outsider so the audience can witness the plot or mystery unfold along with the characters. The POV skeptic/ignorant often fills an important narrative role as the target of the exposition dump (and in Batman stories, that's often his sidekicks)! If I, the omnipotent author, wanted to I could spoil all the major plot points in the first paragraph, and it would be a boring fucking story. There's a reason it's Watson telling the story, not Sherlock.

C. Which canon are we talking about? Pre-Crisis? Pre-Flashpoint? New 52? Rebirth? TDK? Kingdom Come? Earth Two? Any of dozens of Elseworlds?

If it's cartoons is it Batman: The Animated Series? The Batman? Batman: The Brave and the Bold? Beware the Batman? Teen Titans Go? Young Justice? Any of the dozens of direct-to-dvd animated movies?

If it's live action is it Adam West Batman? Michael Keaton? Christian Bale? Battinson? Gotham?

If it's video games is it the Arkham verse? Injustice? Gotham Knights? Telltale Batman? LEGO Batman?

That's just off the top of my head! There are hundreds of different DC continuities and even the writers can't keep straight what's canon and what's not. I can't keep track of what's canon and what's not even when I try! I loved the Young Justice run which involved ghost team member Greta Hayes (Secret) but then that got erased from mainstream canon! Was it added back in? I have no idea! I can't find any mention of her appearing since 2011, so I guess Greta is currently retconned out of existence!

D. It's fanfic. We are just having fun here and we're giving you stories FOR FREE. If you want a story where the Batfam knows all about ghosts, have at it. I'd love to read it!

It's okay to bring up fun bits of canon not everybody knows about (if you do, please try to include what comic run and issue you are referencing so we can read it too!) but be kind.
