Note
You know, perhaps Simon was just being purposely ambiguous with his wording, or he somehow missed the fact that his mentor and sister were hooking up. Just look at this:
Tumblr media
He is a psychologist and yet he is an idiot, truly oblivious and rather obtuse. I want to put him in a box and then shake him violently.
he really is a special kind of idiot and I love him for that <3 truly smartdumb (not to be confused with dumbsmart)

Description of first comic
Description of previous comic
[Image Description: An Ace attorney fancomic, done mostly in sepia/grayscale with bits of color. Teen Metis Cykes says in blue, "Mr. Edgeworth, I don't-" An angry Gregory Edgeworth interrupts her in red, "what was that" Metis nervously asks in blue, "w-what?" Gregory gestures outwards in red, "We never discussed that". Metis stammers, "B-but I-" Gregory continues in red, "you can't just insert yourself like that!"
Metis says on blue, "I just thought, y'know…" She smiles nervously. "I'm kinda part of the family now! We were bonding! We-" Gregory shouts in dark red, "Where are your parents?!"
Metis stares up at Gregory, shaking and crying. She looks down at her hands, then to the side. She clutches her shoulder and says in blue, "Same place where your wife is…" Gregory stares at her, shocked.
We see various flashbacks of prior events in the comic, with present Gregory's thoughts around them in black boxes. Metis: I saw your story in the paper. And… for some reason - it really spoke to me. Present Gregory: (She's been looking for a family this whole time… She didn't just Want to help me be a father again…) Metis, on the phone with Gregory: Half of me says it's to further the field of robotics. But the other half of me says it's to help a lost boy and his grieving father. Past Metis: My name is Metis Cykes. I want to help you. Present Gregory: (she wanted me to be her father…) Past Metis: But he'd say things like how we have to smile during the worst times. And that always stuck with me… (There is a drawing of a crescent moon). Past Metis: Dad jokes are your job!
Back to the present. Gregory stares at Metis and begins to shake. He says, "Oh… Oh no… I'm so sorry… I'm so so sorry…" Metis cries. She looks down and says, "It's not your job to be, sir,." Next to her are doodles of a sun and a moon. Gregory places his hands on her shoulders and says "Metis" in yellow. He hugs Metis, to her surprise.
Metis leans into the hug and says shakily in blue, "My-my dad used to smell like coffee… like you…" Gregory looks down at her and says "Oh Metis…" In yellow. Metis wipes away her tears and says, still in shaky blue, "I-it's okay, Mr. Edgeworth… I'm fine…"
Gregory says in yellow, "No.. you can't be my daughter… and you can't be Miles' big sister…" Metis looks up, still crying. Gregory smiles and finishes in yellow, "…If you're still calling me 'Mr. Edgeworth.' It'd be a bit odd for Miles to hear his sister refer to their father so formally."
Gregory grabs his shoulder and grins. He says in yellow, "I mean, what kind of father figure makes their kids speak like that?" Metis says in blue, "Wait wait wait hold on." She grins and asks, "Are you saying that I can call you dad?" The bubble changes from blue to yellow as she speaks. Gregory says in yellow, "If you want to, of course". Metis says in yellow. "Thanks, dad".
Metis, now in full color, hugs Gregory. He is shocked at first but then returns it, color returning to him as well.
Kid Miles, still in grayscale except for his clothes, looks around a corner. He is surprised to see Metis and Gregory hugging. Metis and Gregory are fully colored. They are interrupted by Miles asking in blue, "…Is something wrong?" Miles, now in full color, looks up. Gregory and Metis crouch down. Gregory places his hands on Miles' shoulder and says, "No, no, kiddo, everything is wonderful!" Metis has a hand on Gregory's shoulder and smiles at Miles.
The panels now are done in shades of one color. A blue panel shows Metis telling Miles, "Miles! It's so nice to meet you!" Two pink panels show Miles surprised, then grinning and saying "Yipee!" The last two panels are in yellow and orange. Metis and Miles hug. Metis: "I'm so happy I get to be your sister!" Miles: "I'm happy I get to have a sister!" Gregory hugs them both and says, "And I'm happy I get to be your father". End description.]

Lore for Newbies - Special Project Cykes
*The Story So Far*
On October 7th, 2020, Los Kyoto First Responders arrived at GYAXA Space Enterprise's Cosmos Space Center after receiving a call about a dark-haired man carrying a bloody sword. After evacuating the building, police found the dead body of Dr. Metis Cykes on a table in the robotics lab. Her eleven-year-old chronically ill daughter was removed from the crime scene by paramedics before officers arrived and was erroneously declared missing when she was actually taken to the ER for neurosurgery following a stab in the head. Athena's bodily fluids (blood and other fluids associated with stabbing wounds, idk I'm not a biologist) were found on scene. The incident was ruled as a homicide, and the suspect turned himself in before apprehension.
A few days later, a bomb explodes on the HAT-1 rocket, leading to the HAT-1 Miracle. On October 13th, the trial of Simon Blackquill for the murder of Metis Cykes (and stabbing of Athena Cykes) begins and ends. Simon pleads guilty and is convicted with the death penalty. The only witness was young Athena, testifying only 6 days after her surgery. The FBI forcibly removed her from the courtroom, and Simon attacked them. Athena was not seen again after Simon's verdict. A memorial service was held and a gravestone was placed for her on October 15th despite the fact that there was no evidence she'd met with additional foul play.
Four years later, an Interpol field agent named Klavier Gavin was sent to infiltrate a facility owned by the French government. Inside this facility, he found a full-functional pit bull fighting ring. What shook him to his core were the fighters: not pit bulls, not canines at all. Children. Human children pitted against the largest and most aggressive dogs Europe had. He found himself face to face with a female teen, nearly undressed in preparation for her nighttime battle. He asked for her name, then a picture, then fled the facility to report to Interpol the atrocities he'd witnessed that night. A year later, he was in Los Kyoto as a rockstar and prosecutor, but never forgot what he'd done with Interpol. Her name was Venus, and that memory haunted him every day.
Shortly after meeting Klavier that night, Venus defeated the champion dog, becoming queen of the pit. However, she'd gone over the maximum weight requirement of the pits, and she was handed over to the EUAS asylum Sanatorium Lac de Libellules in Paris, France to be euthanized.
Back in Japanifornia, about a year or so later, Phoenix Wright had been exonerated of his forging crimes, allowing him to become reinstated if he so wished. Apollo joined the Wright Anything Agency and the Gramarye shenanigans were over. During the night, Edgeworth called Wright. His sister, Franziska von Karma, had notified him of a human rights case involving a child who was near the same age as the missing Athena Cykes, the sole witness in the Blackquill case he was trying to reopen. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this case, the child needed a place to stay and an employer before they could process her rescue. Knowing that Phoenix was a sucker had a good heart for hurt children, Edgeworth reached out to see if he would take her in. Phoenix accepted in late November of 2026, and a deathly ill Venus was rescued from the Sanatorium on February 15th, 2027 just minutes before her scheduled execution.
Interpol's chosen rescue team, who's specialty was rescuing and rehabilitating EUAS victims, found a shattered spinal tap needle in her spine. The surgery to remove the fragments caused three heart attacks and severe sepsis, Venus' spine had to be replaced from the ribcage down. Initial fears for her survival developed into fears for her rehabilitation, she was extremely fearful of men and the rescue team found evidence for physical, mental, medical and sexual abuse. Venus' was retrained to respond to the name "Athena Cykes", given new memories, had some cosmetic work done, had her PhD reissued under the new name and was given an attorney's badge before being sent to Los Kyoto.
Although her past caused her to interpret many social situations incorrectly, Venus/Athena adapted well to her new free life. The one snag was that she had to wear two medical ID bands on her arm that denoted her as "legally insane" since she officially had escaped a death-row level asylum on circumstances not related to being discharged. With that information, the right person could feasibly rip apart her entire impersonation. If her impersonation unraveled before the 1st-year-anniversary of her rehabilitation placement, she'd be returned to the rescue team where she ran the risk of her captors seizing her again. Despite her trauma and physical issues, she settled down (not in a marriage way, just in the no-more-kool-aid-man-energy way) and made friends. Athena's family and friends took her in as if she really was their missing loved one, and she even found a loved one of her own in her co-worker, Apollo Justice. A man.
Athena/Venus, after a midnight 911 call in November 2027, was readmitted to a Los Kyoto asylum known as Pavilion Crisis Care (why are there so many dang asylums in this lore?) and tentatively diagnosed with a genetic respiratory defect known as "pulmonary vascular endothelial dysplasia" (as far as I'm aware, this isn't a real medical name heheh I just asked an AI to spit something fancy-like out for me) PVED causes the blood vessels supporting the Oxygen-CO2 air sacs in the lungs to be abnormally thin and weak, leading to them bursting (and the patient coughing up blood) when blood pressure skyrockets. Due to her sketchy legal circumstances, PCC tried to retain her, but Apollo was able to get power of attorney over her so he could take her home, as he knew she had PTSD regarding asylums (but didn't know exactly why).
In December, Clay Terran was stabbed and killed in the same building Metis and Athena were stabbed in, directly beneath the robotics lab as two more bombs went off. As the last joint incident was found to be terroristic, this second bombing-homicide was labelled high-priority. As Venus/Athena tries to grapple with confusing fuzzy memories of the building, she finds herself front-and-center for the Courtroom #5 bombing and gains a hemorrhage of the brain from a severe concussion. While Venus/Athena is in neurosurgery, the hospital finds suspicious brain scans dated 7 years beforehand showing the brain death & damage present in Venus/Athena's brain and a scan showing complete brain death under Athena's name.
The day after, Venus/Athena returns to the court to try and defend Juniper, but is rehospitalized when her stiches break following a PTSD episode and upon finding Apollo assaulted in the courtroom ruins.
After Juniper is acquitted and both Apollo and Athena heal from their respective injuries, Apollo takes his leave of absence to investigate Clay's death, and Venus/Athena confesses to Wright about being instructed to impersonate Athena.
*The next chapter of the trilogy begins here*
So that's my nonsense. Make of my nonsense what you will.
If I forgot anything than I'll fix it tomorrow I'm tired. I purposefully left out a bunch of canon stuff because it's not my lore lol.

Let's talk about this moment real quick. Spoilers for Dual Destinies, especially the final case:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've made me jests, but...
Athena isn't confused here because she's stupid.
She's confused because she's spent the better part of 7 years training, studying, and fighting her inner demons for the sole purpose of saving Simon. He was (and still is) one of the most important people in her life and now he's saying that it isn't? After all of this?
Simon is a key part of Athena's trauma, that he'd go and throw his life away for seemingly no reason at all (her memories of UR-1 blocked out with only the grim setting of the courtroom he was sentenced to death in being vivid). Her mother was dead, Aura was no doubt incandescent and wondering why Simon is covering for the true killer, and she was sent to Europe away from her friend Juniper (though they did exchange letters).
The day Phoenix inspired her to pursue a career as an attorney, she had some way of reaching out to and maybe even saving someone she knew from her past. The last tether to happier days in the Space Centre before UR-1, one that knew and forged a strong student-master bond with her mother Metis Cykes. Fighting hard to break out of her shell and become as physically and mentally strong as she could. She says as much during her conversation with him above, and to Phoenix & Pearl in the detention centre earlier that day/
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She practically changed her entire personality over that period of time to be as strong as she possibly could be - enough that her childhood friend didn't recognise her at first:
Tumblr media
All driven by a desire to salvage what she saw as a terrible mistake. If she could save this one person from her past, then perhaps they'll both have a chance at making peace with what happened that day.
With how well Simon knew the Cykes - seeing them for more than their stoic and awkward exteriors - it's fair to say they were familiar with one another. Athena's fixation on him is partly a result of trauma, yes, but it also speaks to unspoken happy memories of this black-clad dork who visits her mother and seems to understand her better than most anyone else did... even compared to her mother, it felt at times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And he does understand her, knowing how to push and test her abilities in court and forming silent plans to catch the phantom together despite spending 7 years apart.
One of the bad endings for Turnabout for Tomorrow - where they fail to crack Simon's testimony - mentions that Athena left the office after the fact. Ignoring that they skipped over Clay's trial for a moment, we hear that Apollo and Phoenix take this event rather poorly, yet we don't hear a peep about Athena:
Tumblr media
I can only speculate. Maybe that's the point; leaving us to wonder what Athena did after she failed to save Simon from his execution date. I'm sure Simon died reassuring himself about how Athena no longer has to bear the guilt for her mother's death. But I doubt that's any comfort given her intense reaction to re-living memories of failing to save him the first time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Near and dear. Again. She's already failed to save someone she describes as near and dear - on par with Juniper at least - and she's left frozen in shock at the prospect of failing a second time.
She's confused by the notion that Simon's life isn't important because of just how much she values it. How she had no option but to save him, or be locked back into that dark place she entered when that horrible trial ended - knowing she's failed a dear friend because of how foolish she is.

spicy take time: Ace Attorney 5 is not THAT bad
Dual Destinies: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly -- An Opinionated Review (not spoiler free, hehe)
As I was progressing through the series, I noticed that fans really seemed to dislike Dual Destinies, so as I finished Apollo Justice, I was worried about what I was going to come across and, it wasn't terrible. I've begun to replay some of the game and compile some thoughts.
The Good
Characters
Whether it be the complicated, the quirky, or the downright enjoyable to be around, Dual Destinies has all sorts of new characters to fit this bill. Some of my favorites include:
Athena Cykes -- The newbie lawyer with a loud and colorful personality and a neat little game mechanic involving her being able to hear emotions Simon Blackquill -- The prosecutor on death row who's very… persuasive (why does he get to have a sword?) "Bobby Fulbright" -- The game's eccentric detective. While he's no Dick Gumshoe or Emma Skye, he actually managed to grow on me, making the twist that the final antagonist was disguised as him the entire time all the more impactful to me.
Some other characters that I really enjoyed: Juniper Woods Jinxie Tenma Aura Blackquill Orla Shipley (the orca)
And some of my favorite puns, for fun: Candice Arme Robin Newman Sasha Buckler
The Introductory Case
Case 5-1 is one of my favorite introductory cases after 2-1, AAI2-1, and TGAA1-1. Its twists and turns had me on edge the entire time. I've seen some crazy shit in Ace Attorney -- exorcisms, cross-examining animals, children that are victims of murder attempts -- but a terrorist bombing was not something I would expect, weirdly enough.
I also think it's fascinating how it's the only intro case to span over multiple days and the second to chronologically take place after the main filler cases (after AAI1-1).
And I really like how it ends by leaving these two questions in the back of my mind: "What's wrong with Apollo?" "Who exactly is Athena?"
Prosecutor Blackquill
Out of all of the prosecutors in the series, Blackquill has one of my favorite concepts. The idea of a prosecutor being able to continue his job while awaiting the death sentence for a crime he did not commit, but rather, took the fall for is just soooo… AAAAAAA. I love it. How he also utilizes psychological mind games opposite to Athena's own.
I was originally terrified of Blackquill and his unique "Silence!" callout, but as case 5 progressed, I actually almost cried learning Simon's true colors. How he willingly went to prison to protect a young Athena and Athena's mother, Metis', work, refusing to accept help despite Athena's and Aura, his older sister's, pleas. He was genuinely willing to be executed for the sake of protecting Athena.
Athena and Apollo's relationship, Apollo's Skepticism, and Athena's Trauma
Throughout the course of cases 2 and 3, it was demonstrated how Apollo and Athena grew to trust each other. To me, they gave off sibling energy, which was made even better by the fact that, in Greek mythology, Apollo and Athena are siblings (half-siblings, but siblings nonetheless).
So when Apollo started feeling skeptical towards Athena regarding the whole Clay situation, it kinda hurt, Apollo even willingly wearing a bandage over his eye to prevent himself from perceiving Athena's suspicious ticks. (I love this concept and wish more could have been done it.) And Athena had a past of her own that wasn't helping the situation that she herself wasn't even sure of, traumatized by the idea that she might have killed her own mother.
This is what I would say to be Dual Destinies' strongest feature.
The Phantom
Like I've mentioned before, the twist of "Fulbright" being the final antagonist really got to me. And his whole breakdown with him being in a mad panic, questioning who he really was before getting sniped, has to be one of my favorite breakdowns in the entire series (second to the exorcism)
Turnabout Reclaimed
The concept behind this DLC case is a fascinating one. The defendant being an… uhm… orca and the murder being an accident makes this case really unique.
3D Models
While the models take a bit to get used to, I think, ultimately, they weren't a terrible idea. I love the sprites but there are some things that the models did that the sprites couldn't -- and vice versa. And I believe it was a great gateway into what we got with The Great Ace Attorney and Spirit of Justice.
The Bad
Phoenix's Role
I have problems with Phoenix in this game in general. His model, his voice, but overall, I think the biggest downside about him in this game is his role. How him losing his badge was basically ctrl-z'ed and he's back to basically steal the spotlight. His role in Apollo Justice was great. He was there, but not on the front lines, helping Apollo from the side. I was hoping that, with the introduction of Athena, she'd get help from him like Apollo from Kristoph in his own game or Phoenix from Mia in the first game, rather than being essentially sidelined herself.
Yes. Dual Destinies is a Phoenix Wright game, but with how much focus it gives to Apollo and Athena and their… Dual Destinies… it's a bit frustrating with him in the picture as much as he is.
Turnabout Academy
I don't believe in the "3rd Case Syndrome" that goes around in the fanbase (4-3, 6-3, AAI2-3, and TGAA2-3 were pretty good). However… replaying Dual Destinies, I can't bring myself to replay this case. The concept was okay, but, that's all I can really say. The characters were… eh? I like Junie, Robin, and Mirriam, but Hugh is insufferable and what they did with Klavier was… (I don't wanna be harsh but)… ew. How Robin was treated before revealing she was a girl, was kind of gross (in the initial 2013 release). Overall, it was an… okay case. I don't really have much else to say about this case other than I didn't really enjoy it.
Turnabout Reclaimed
I love the concept, but that's about it. I had a bit of trouble staying awake while playing this one. It felt a little reminiscent of 1-5, which best sums up my feelings about it. The characters were okay and the idea is great, but this case is just… there.
The Ugly
Main Menu
That menu is boring. There's nothing... here. At least previous releases had the gall to put an image in the background, whether it be a courtroom or silhouettes of the main characters. I can't tell if that's supposed to be a bulletin board or a closeup of a basketball, but it's likely neither of those are right.
Voices
I understand replacing the older VA's because of cutscenes and all that, and I'm okay with Apollo's new voice, but when it comes to the other characters with NEW voices, they kind of miss the mark. Apollo and Phoenix sound virtually identical, Klavier sounds… wrong, and I don't think anyone told Edgeworth's VA that he's only 34 because he sounds twice that.
3D Models
When it comes to characters being translated into 3D, that's where the models miss. Apollo's, and Klavier's models are … not the best and Phoenix's is actually disgusting. They got a much-needed update with Spirit of Justice, but they don't compare to the beauty of their sprites.
-----
Overall, I personally think that Dual Destinies is one of the weakest in the series, but it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. It's different and takes a bit to get used to, but it's fun :)

Causes of death in the Ace Attorney franchise
Because I'm bored, and what do we do when we get bored? We MAKE LISTS! I went through every character dead character in the canon game universe (so AA1-6, AAI1-2, and TGAA1-2, sorry PWvsPL) and jotted it all down below, so let's see what the most common (specified) cause of death in Ace Attorney is:

---
ª: She was stabbed, right? Like, she was poisoned first, but she died from the stab wound first, if I'm correct. Do tell if I'm wrong, lmao.
*: Accidental deaths
^: Natural death
¨: Deaths by suicide
°: Executed (Joe Darke's method of execution isn't mentioned, but if we assume Japanifornia goes by Japan laws, then hanging is the only method of execution used. Probably a higher number of deaths by hanging then, whether you believe some people got executed or not. Also, a lot of the killers in TGAA probably got executed, too? I just jotted down the confirmed cases, but yeah.)
(Also, von Karma died of 'Something'. Who knows. Of being too ashamed, maybe. Sucks to be him).
I probably missed some characters/omitted them, because who knows, it's my list I guess. If I forgot someone important do let me know!

apollo justice trilogy ideas
because capcom fucking WASTED the potential they had with aa4 and the storytelling of the trilogy deserved to be replicated with more characters
notes under the cut
aa4
keep everything basically the same, but add some references to clay, make sure apollo doesn’t exist in a vacuum outside of being a lawyer, yes its really fucking funny but objectively shit for worldbuilding
other than that, change nothing. this is my maybe favorite game in the series for a reason (not the cases)
aa5
scrap everything in this game. some bits and pieces can be kept, but it’s not a lot. there was momentum coming out of aa4 that capcom fucking WASTED with this game
rival prosecutor can be sebastian, detective can be kay
sebastian is friends with klavier and knows apollo because of that
when they meet there’s a scene where sebastian is like “it’s you! mr. forehead!” and apollo replies “what on god’s green earth did you just say to me” or something along those lines because it would be really really funny
klavier and ema are referenced, but not shown. in case 2 apollo can say/think something along the lines of “i wonder who i’m going up against, since ema is studying to retake the forensics exam and klavier is in germany”
speaking of which, klavier is reflecting in germany, spending time with his remaining family, figuring his life out. BIG miles in aa2 vibes but without the incredibly worrying note
trucy is in school more, which means clay can be co-counsel occasionally
background notes about what phoenix is up to (ie apollo thinking about how the first thing phoenix did with his badge back was defend a whale, mention of how he visited maya in khura’in, etc), but he’s still around for the cases. not really doing anything, but he’s there and kind of helpful
there are references to kristoph throughout the game, he is NOT brushed off or swept under the rug
case 1 is turnabout countdown without athena and apollo in the hospital, phoenix co-counsel maybe? basically ted tonate kills candice arme without any of the stuff relating to the cosmic turnabout
case 2 is the monstrous turnabout without athena, sub in trucy since jinxie is her friend anyways
case 3 is completely new, apollo’s landlord is killed, clay is co-counsel
case 4 is also completely new, a murder at a science lab maybe? but clay is co-counsel again
case 5 is the cosmic turnabout without athena and the cliffhanger to set up turnabout for tomorrow
clay and sol switch because i care about clay
culprit can be the phantom disguised as yuri cosmos, he escapes and remains at large when game ends, sets up aa6 nicely
aa6
canon has been thrown entirely out the window, khura'in can exist but it has nothing to do with apollo, it's just "where mr. wright's sister is working"
clay references come back, he's still in space, went up on hat-3 instead of sol because reasons
ema is the detective again, she passed the forensics exam and i love her
simon is the rival prosecutor, we can bring athena in gradually (and maybe set up an athena cykes trilogy but shhh i'll worry about that later)
i'm not sure what the cases are, but the central conflict is between apollo, klavier, kristoph, and the phantom
also klavier is back in japanifornia, tags along on investigations sometimes maybe?
@jackedup180 had a really good idea where there's kind of a matt engarde/shelly de killer vibe between kristoph and the phantom, kristoph makes the plans and stuff but can't commit any crimes because he is in Prison, the phantom can go commit the crimes and probably have more of an alibi
FUCK I ALMOST FORGOT but the phantom is disguised as bobby fulbright again, cause that would be a good dynamic and a decent enough twist. maybe at the end of aa5 they didn't realize that yuri cosmos was the phantom, and that can be brought in subtly now
the one case i AM decently sure of is 6-5, where the victim is metis and klavier is the defendant
no one really believes that it's him, big turnabout goodbyes vibes, but i'm doing that on purpose, dw
aura can still pull the hostage thing cause she wants justice for her wife, which leads to phoenix telling apollo about the Thing and bringing thalassa in at the end of the case because goddammit, capcom, it's been over a decade, you Need to tell them
miles can be the prosecutor cause klavier is still one of his best prosecutors and simon's too invested/not ranked highly enough and also wrightworth lol

AA:Dual Destinies but with Professor Layton…
Concept: Athena doesn’t quite complete law school in time to save Simon, she’s one class credit off and therefore will land up being a semester late. She was still studying abroad in Europe at the time.
Athena meets and befriends Flora during her studies, they attend the same college. During this time Flora tells Athena all these amazing stories about her adoptive father Professor Hershel Layton. Before Flora and Athena part ways she encouraged Athena to reach out if she ever found herself in any sort of trouble.
Well, she was certainly in trouble and desperate to find some way to help Simon. She approaches Professor Layton and asks for his help. He’s hesitant at first (he’s limited his adventuring trips because he’s the adoptive father of a literal toddler at the moment) however at the mention of Flora, he reconsiders.
(Also something to note, this means Athena is not present for the first half of Dual Destinies, believe it or not her presence isn’t necessarily a necessity for The Monstrous Turnabout or Turnabout Academy. In this AU, Apollo meets Junie during Turnabout Academy and takes her case up himself, together he and Klavier figure out the truth. Now having been acquainted with Junie, he does save her during the explosion at the courthouse and so on.)
Layton agrees to help Athena, and they leave for LA immediately to investigate the case of Metis Cykes Murder from 15 years ago. Little do they know soon after they get there, there will be another murder in the same place.
Unable to sleep, Athena goes to investigate at the Space Station alone, much like she does in Dual Destinies. She passes out in the museum, and this is how the killer is able to plant her prints on the lighter. Athena wakes up after the incident is over like a whole like 16-18 hours later and reunites with Layton.
During the Cosmic Turnabout, to clear Solomon Starbuck’s name, Apollo and Phoenix land up coming across the lighter, and Athena Cykes is accused.
(At some point during all this Apollo is entering the detention center and comes across Junie, this is when he finds out that she and Athena are childhood friends and she actually asks Apollo to take Athena’s case. He declines, but he starts to feel uncertain of his judgment of the accused Athena.)
When the officers arrest Athena, the Professor calls in a favor of an old friend, Phoenix Wright. Apollo gets upset when he takes her case, and decides to complete his investigation separately from Phoenix. (Also Layton gets to meet Trucy and honestly that makes me more happy than I can express with words, top hat Twinsies)
The hostage situation occurs at the Space Station, causing the exact case from 15 years ago to be retried. This time, the Professor is also allowed to aid in the investigation, and the fic would continue from there.
Oh yeah, and the Phantom is Don Paolo.

Hi. I am bored and also wanting to bother you specifically. Which theory is better? Athena Cykes being a robot (evidence being widget, how did she never get hurt/see blood, Métis “studying” just being working with her code, autism) or her dad being the Phantom (this evidence is more Métis based like how would the psychological profile work without a match, why didn’t she just kill him, why doesn’t Athena see Bobby as weird, Athena gets double autism genes) Both work well in any context. I like Phantomdad cause Athena and Apollo can bond over terroristic fathers <3
omg me specifically… such an honor… ok lemme think this thru (this is a long one)
robothena:
• actually how does widget connect to her emotions… bc there is a way to judge how someone’s feeling based on bodily signs like pulse, temp., etc., but even at that a lot of emotions have very similar bodily reactions and part of determining how u feel is like… from the mind. if i remember my AP psych 5 correctly 😎 but also even at that widget wouldn’t logically have access to her thoughts that does not make sense unless metis like… chipped her??? or something????? which is still impossible
• i think if she’s sheltered enough then at 11 when she saw metis die, she might not have recognized it? but i feel it’s very implausible that she as a child would be so that intensely cautious + NEVER get into an accident + absolutely always be supervised enough to never get hurt. it is odd that her perspective would be that warped so that she’s unable to recognize it but idk. if she has no frame of reference is it human instinct to recognize blood… (i will not do further research at this time i am lazy)
• last two points u bring up i don’t think it’s mentioned what metis does specifically so no comment also elaborate on what you mean by the autism point because athena is giving neurodivergent but like what do you mean in context of that being evidence 😭
• she does seem to enjoy orange juice and little girl treats tho so how would that work… robots don’t really need to eat…
• also based on the navigation companions (ponco and clonco; only reason i know the proper term is for CAYA) why would her machinery be so more advanced than theirs? if aura and metis r capable of creating something so lifelike then why are ponco and clonco, made after her (i think) so far behind?
phantom dad ??:
• metis likely wouldn’t have a match for the phantom’s identity but it was simon who brought her the audio recording of the phantom’s voice i believe so that’s how she composed the psych profile knowing that. 95% sure because i had to look this up for CAYA
• tbf the phantom was wearing a jacket, but also yeah she likely could have done something in self-defense… but if they used the sword on her it’s likely any attempts @ self-defense wouldn’t have gone well regardless. there’s not really enough information in the game i don’t think to say whether or not there was an attempt or not
• bobby was able to fuck w his emotions in game and put on the appearance of emotions, if i remember correctly that was an aspect during the cross-examination/mood matrix part during it, so that’s likely why she didn’t find it off. and if she did, the game didn’t think to actually foreshadow anything by having her mention it either in passing or in her own narration during turnabout academy
i think athena and apollo both having terrorist fathers would be funny tho lol
but based on my minimal research as i consider this, the robothena one seems more plausible as it does better explain some of the illogical parts of the game. ofc it’s in the “future” but literally this made me realize that widget doesn’t make much sense with his ability to literally know what she’s thinking. like unless there’s some wack-ass science shit the writers just didn’t think necessary to share like… what is going on with that

I am deathly curious about how this questioning proceeded.
Did he keep the act from before up where he profusely apologised for the events that played out at the end of Cosmic? He doesn't seem too torn up about her being locked up here anymore and this is in front of somebody who was there during her arrest (Phoenix Wright). Did he question her the same way he would any other perp? Was he beaming with joy the whole time because two of his most dangerous opponents are pretty much set to be imprisoned or executed and THAT'S why he's so lax?
How was Athena through that questioning? She was pretty shaken up by the whole affair with Starbuck describing how her eyes were swollen from crying. Bobby and her have a semi-antagonistic dynamic at this point and given he's the one who handed Blackquill the fingerprinting results, Athena'd no doubt have some choice words for the guy. She later almost admits that maybe she really did kill Clay. Did talking to Fulbright plant that idea into her head or exacerbate the doubt she already have due to blacking out that day? What if he did that intentionally as a misdirection?
Maybe we could have planted some narrative seeds here too. He has pretty much gotten away scott-free at this point and he does drop the act in the middle of the last trial under false security. Maybe this could be similar - have Athena mention to Phoenix that something was funny with Fulbright but dismiss it. He was in shambles over her being on the fingerprint analysis - maybe he's just having an off-day emotionally. Something to that effect. It would offer some build-up to her revealing that he doesn't have any emotion behind his voice & would give the player a nugget to remember when the phantom's psyche profile is shown (ie "hang on, didn't Athena say that his voice didn't sound quite right earlier this case...?").
Maybe it would have been too overt to call attention to any of this? My last suggestion feels like it could work without giving the whole game away but up to this point we've had his dubious presence at the Space Centre and him turning in the fingerprint analysis. Both of those things are pretty bizarre with the latter not getting any explaination like the former did (it really doesn't help that Clay isn't enough of a character to imply some past connection between him and Athena that could motivate a murder (sorry Apollo but the theory that she did it for no reason is only compelling to you, buddy - she had an alleged reason for killing Metis after all)). Perhaps we don't need to round out the oddities with a third one because there already IS a third oddity. Later on he pretty much tells Aura that's enough for today, the day before her brother is scheduled to be executed.
Feels like we could have used this though.
[ID: Two screenshots from Dual Destinies, during the final case "Turnabout for Tomorrow". In order, Detective Bobby Fulbright speaks the following dialogue:
"I was just about to question Ms. Cykes."
"Sorry for the trouble, but could you come back later? Well, off I go!"]

please tell us about ur creative decisions regarding aa7 Athena and Pearl's redesigns :D
I WILL I ASSURE YOU I WILL!!!
Check out more ideas in the Hashtag #Athena Cykes: Ace Attorney - Evident Destiny
long post below cut :)
Okay so with Athena's design, I really wanted to keep the core concepts. She's only been with us two games, so I didn't want to change anything too drastic! (Also just really love her design! I know a lot of fans have issues with it, but I honestly just really love it)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I replaced Athena's hair ribbon with her mother's hair piece! I thought it would be a nice homage to her mom, now that Athena is thinking about her destiny and whether or not she might have wanted to follow her mother more or is she is confident in following her own set path.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's no surprise I also incorporated some flowers, specifically a sunflower, into her design. I thought a nice broach to replace her tie would be fitting! Perhaps it's a fresh one that Juniper renews for her, or one that Juniper even crafted for her to wear instead! (and her old hair ribbon is repurposed as part of the piece!)
Tumblr media
The only other thing I did was tuck her shirt in, adding suspenders in reference to the one concept art that had them! Thought they were too cute to pass up!
Pearl's design is actually based off of an old doodle I had done redesigning her older appearance, and she didn't go through too much of a change!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most notably, I changed her hair, making it a bit longer and added extra pieces hanging down from her loops, more emphasizing the "pretzel" shape. I also changed part of her bang shape to reference Mia's bangs as well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also gave her the little wrist guard pieces of the channeling outfit as I thought they could be a nice addition when I took away her cardigan to make the robes look a bit more casual!

Description of first comic
Description of previous comic
[Image Description: An Ace attorney fancomic, done in full color. Kid Miles asks in yellow, "Dad? How'd I get a sister exactly?" Gregory says in blue, "Well buddy, like I said, you got really sick…" his bubble switches to yellow. "So she helped you get better, and now she's part of our family." Metis smiles. Miles looks up at her in awe.
Miles says, "But she's also a kid". Metis says in yellow, "I'm a prodigy!" Miles says in yellow, "I wanna be a prodigy!" Gregory grins and says in a normal speech bubble, "Haha, don't worry kiddo". He leans down to kiss Miles on the head and says in blue, "I already know that you are"
Gregory stands up and says in a normal bubble, "I need to go grab somethin' for ya, Miles". Miles says, "Okay". Gregory leaves, the room, the color leaving the comic as well. He goes into another room and comes across a box filled with various objects. He takes Miles' Red Samurai key-chain out of the box. The key-chain is glowing, and Gregory looks at it sadly.
Gregory puts down the key-chain, and takes out a ring. The ring is also glowing, and the comic is colored where the light reaches. Gregory puts it on his left right finger and looks at it.
Gregory places his hands on each other and sighs. He grabs the key-chain and stands up. Gregory, now in full color, looks behind himself at a picture of himself, his wife, and baby Miles. Gregory says, "Well, Ellie… I guess we both have Miles with us now…"
The comic returns to full color. Miles and Metis are talking excitedly at each other. Gregory says, "Alright kids, I'm back." Gregory crouches down and says in yellow, "I kept this safe for you". He drops the key-chain into Miles' hands.
There is a close-up of the ring on Gregory's hand Metis smiles at it. There is another series of panels colored in only one hue. There is a pink panel showing the key-chain in Miles' hands, then a yellow one showing Miles looking at it in delighted surprise.
A red panel shows Miles holding up the key-chain and saying, "Yay! Now I can go play with Phoenix!" The color goes out of the comic, except for Miles and Metis' clothes. Gregory stares at Miles in shock. He says, "Oh.. Oh no buddy… Not yet… you gotta stay inside until you're fully better." Miles looks up at Gregory sadly. He asks, "I'm still sick?"
Gregory hugs Miles and says in blue, "yes.. but don't worry". He says in a normal bubble, "Met and I will make sure you finish healing quickly". Miles says in blue, "…Okay". Gregory looks at Miles sadly.
He hugs Miles closer and says in blue, "Miles…" He says in a normal bubble, "Why don't you show Metis your favorite show? I need to clean up around here and I think it'll give you two some bonding time". A panel colored only in red shows Miles looking up in gleeful shock with stars in his eyes. A yellow panel shows him dragging Metis away, his speech bubbles filled with colorful shapes. A full-color panel shows Gregory looking after them. Then he exhales, and the comic goes back to grayscale. End description.]

Do you have any favorite murder victim characters that weren’t talked much about or aren’t very popular inside the fandom?
ooh super interesting question! most of the victims don't get talked about all that much it's true
admittedly my favorite victims are ones we actually knew before they were murdered (like Mia) because their deaths have more of an emotional impact. honorable mentions also go to Genshin Asogi and Metis Cykes, who died long ago and who the player never gets to meet, but who still have a very profound impact on the story in the present day.
but as for ones that really aren't talked about, my first thought was Valerie Hawthorne. i know we don't know a whole lot about her, but it's surprising to me how little i hear people talk about her, considering that she's Dahlia and Iris's half-sister and played a very interesting role in Dahlia's story. from what we know, she went along with Dahlia's staged kidnapping and framed Fawles, but then spent the next several years consumed with guilt about it. she'd intended to finally come clean before Dahlia killed her. idk i just think she's a very complicated and interesting character that the fanbase should spend more time thinking about haha
