YES YES YES you know???? like ultimately this IS a shonen manga!! it IS about fighting and war and violence!! but shuuji being there from the very beginning??? being this mundane guy who does housework, who is apologetic and gentle amidst this chaos??? it's SO important. like I feel like it might be why sumiko chose him in the first place....

like the whisper of a different reality is always there. what if you didn't have to go out every night to fight monsters. what if you didn't have to stain your hands with violence. what if the worst thing in your daily life you had to contend with was your editor asking about your manuscript. what then. wouldn't it be nice...?

sumiko knows she will never be free from that. but wouldn't it be nice if kindness like this was possible. wouldn't it be nice if it didn't have to be like this for my kids...?

And I think this is very much how it ends!!! you don't HAVE to be a kekkaishi anymore!! you don't HAVE to live a life of blood and violence anymore!! you can be a teacher you can be an architect you can be whatever you want!! You don't need to be married to this lifestyle that has tied us down for centuries!! you can live that gentle dream. it's not too late. and so on

shuuji is SOOOO... you know back in liek. 2021 or some shit I had a couple of kekkaishi friends who were into roleplaying and they invited me to participate in this huge rp server and I thought for a really long time about who to roleplay... one of them was sen and one of them was yoshimori and an obvious third would have been tokine. except I feel like I'm already SO close to being tokine in real life it felt like it kind of defeated the purpose of... playing a role... and soji is a favorite of mine, but he's so blank slate I think it's difficult to play him in a "your character has now been dropped into a parallel universe" type scenario. anyways I ended up choosing shuuji to my friends' collective astonishment. idk. he is just so. SO. so so so. ??? to me. something about that guy.

he's truly so special like even among all other men in kekkaishi shuuji just has that oomph and that's totally purposeful he's the bestest man like MAN. he's THE. MAN. am I making any sense. I love him so fucking much. also that sounds so cool I'm not into RP or anything but imagining a big ass server like this with ppl who like kekkaishi... damn that's awesome

I'm so fucking inarticulate sorry but it's like. if tanabes wanted to make all men unproblematic and subversive and stuff she could've very much done that. the point is she didn't and that in a way makes shuuji even more special. does that make sense. it's so. REAL. LIKE. REAL LIFE IS LIKE THIS. MEN ARE TRASH. and sometimes there are some true gems out there. like shuuji lmao aaaa idk if my point is coming across well enough but !!!! the important thing is that shuuji is amazing

the horror genre would be a lot more interesting if everything set in mental hospitals was less “oooOOOooh spoooooky mental illnesssssss” and more exploring the absolute horrors and human rights violations historically committed by staff in such institutions.

the true horror is the human capacity to dehumanize those different from oneself

Outsiders SMP Thoughts Journal! ;P

Heyyyy, so I’m watching the first five episodes of the Outsiders SMP and I thought I’d record my thoughts. I’ve never watched an SMP so this is going to be a very different experience. If you’re a fan and I say bad stuff I’m genuinely sorry; I’m sure it’s just not my thing. But who knows?

SPOILERS AHEAD

Episode 1: So, I have read the first book of the Maze Runners. I think the concept is very interesting but it’s not my FAVORITE book. Let’s see if Outsiders does any better. First thoughts are: this is weird. And not the story or anything, just…I dunno, it’s Minecraft and it kinda takes me out of it. But I’m literally four minutes in.

“Is that blood?” “It’s ketchup.” “I’m not sure I want my name written in ketchup on a wall-“

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. Why not mustard?

Love Owen’s accent. I’m a sucker for accents.

Oeca is my favorite. Hes so unhinged I love him: “you guys wanna play a fun game where I throw a knife in the air-“ “NO NO NO.” And that’s the literal first thing he shows a complete stranger. 😭

Wait I’m confused. Owen has a British accent but he said “toe-MAY-toes” instead of “toe-maw-toes.” 🤨

Love how as soon as the other lady person says goodnight he immediately starts having an existential crisis.

Also confession: I have zero idea who any of these YouTubers are. So really going into this raw. Gonna watch episode two in a hot moment!
