That person complaining about people mocking weird baby names that white women give their kids is literally making up a guy to get mad at.
1) People making fun of the name Arson is largely a transphobia thing and completely unrelated to people mocking the name kcaiyleighg or whatever obscene mispelling of a common name people give their baby to make them "special."
2) Racism against black people's names is NOT the same thing as people mocking white women for naming their baby "Abcde" and shit.
3) Nobody is claiming that these goofy ass names are oppressive. People just think they're goofy and also kind of cruel names to give your child just because you want them to be "unique"
Reactionaries love to make up some kind of bad guy to justify the fact that they are reactionary but the truth is that that person is just reeeeeally mad that people make fun of white woman baby names but knows they'll get laughed at if they say it up front.
This is largely what I was saying, yes!
A few other thoughts:
I am totally unfamiliar with trans people named Arson, except Maia Arson Crimew. Is this one of those strawman "my gender is attack helicopter" memes? (I do know multiple trans Robin Goodfellows, though)
A quick FB search shows more Latina and Black women named Abcde than white, actually
Which demonstrates that this phenomenon knows no color, nationality, or single culture. Japan has its "kira-kira" names, too, for example. there's a specific type of Parental Vanity Name that's more associated with white parents, of course- hard-to-parse spellings with "igh," "x," and "y," nature terms not conventionally used as names, Biblical references that may or may not make any sense out of context, etc. But nobody's immune, unfortunately. there will always be parents who name their children like pets, the world over

Oh Belinda (2023)
My rating: 4/10
Figured "Turkish movie in which a woman gets isekai'd into a shampoo commercial" sounded weird enough to potentially be pretty interesting - and apparently it is, if you watch the 1986 original. This one's just a bit dull and rather pointless, though.

Prime numbers be upon ye, wench
2. Favorite color when you were younger, and now?
When I was younger it was the specific Scarlet associated with crayola crayons. I distinctly remember being told it was a "girl color" and I never worked out why. I wonder if it was like. because some girls are named scarlet? because of the scarlet letter? we may never know.
Now it's Cyan or Teal. love them shits.
3. Do you wear eye-shadow? What color?
I Have before but i generally don't. When i do it's always really obvious and weird so i can look weird
5. In your opinion, is love at first sight real?
that is completely inconsistent with my understanding of love I have built over the course of my 8 year relationship with my wife (and other relationships before and during). Love is not attraction, it's commitment. It's a choice you make even when the Feeling isn't there.
7. First kiss details? (If you haven’t been kissed, reply how and if you would like to be.)
I tried to kiss my (now) wife after our second date but i missed and fucked up, and they asked me if I wanted to try again and I did it.
11. What is your hair like?
Soft? Long? Blonde? it tangles easy and it hurts lots bc my skin is sensitive everywhere. If i let you touch my hair freely, you know I trust you lmao.
13. What time do you go to bed? What time do you wake up?
generally around midnight. Generally wake up around 6 or 7. supplemented with naps in the middle of the day when I am allowed. Somehow i catpilled myself into a crepuscular sleep schedule
17. Favorite game as a child?
Interesting question, could have any number of answers. I always would say Majora's mask, it was probably my favorite game from an artistic perspective. But from the perspective of which one I just liked to play? Probably like. any given pokemon? runescape? adventure quest????
19. Princess, Fairy, Mermaid, or Unicorn?
Angel<3
23. Do you dance? Slow dance?
Not generally, i got shamed a lot as a kid and its hard to overcome all that still. I did take dance classes for my wedding though, and danced there.
29. When and who was your first crush?
Uhh as far as I remember probably like. this girl named taylor in 8th grade. We had a weird awkward sort of relationship that ended when she told me we actually hadn't been dating and she was dating someone else? She then proceeded to stalk me and tell me she loved me over and over for years after that. weird shit idk
31. Are you superstitious?
No.
37. Are you quiet or loud?
it depends? is anyone one of those as a rule? I guess when I'm quiet its intentional, usually because im shy or anxious or w/e, and when I am comfy i tend to get too loud.
41. Worst fear as a kid?
Dark or heights
43. why isn't there a 43?
Idk! but i added one
47. Do you feel everything, nothing, or you don’t know what to feel?
I feel a lot. I tend to feel it on a delay. Like. I will experience something and then feel all the emotions hours or even days later

Ternyata benar,

you know, the Horrible Histories "Victorian names were WEIRD!!!!" skit leaves out some important info on some of the names (assisted by Ancestry.com searches):
Lettice Berger: "Lettice" was an anglicization of the Roman name "Leticia." Berger is just a normal German surname. Yes, they had the word "lettuce," and I'm sure the similarities occurred to them. But nobody named their child "lettuce" like the vegetable.
O.K. Johnson: Probably just the kid's initials. "O.K." as a slang term was invented in 1830s Boston, but without any evidence of when little O.K. lived (they don't cite any sourced for these names, how convenient), it's impossible to tell whether it would have crossed the pond by the time he was born.
Never [they pronounce the surname Rookrook]: I found a LOT of Nevers in the UK with Indian surnames. So uh. There's that. And a lot of census records online seem to have notes written by the census-taker mislabeled as names- "never opens door" was one I noticed. Just saying. I also found multiple "NEVA Rook" census entries- which probably would have been pronounced "NEE-vah" but sounds like "Never" with a British accent if you tilt your head and squint.
Toilet: Surprisingly common modern misreading of "Violet" on 19th-century censuses with bad handwriting.
Baboon: Found one census where it's a misreading of "Barbara;" others were non-Anglo names like Baban, Babyon, Babboni, etc.
Susan Semolina-Thrower: That's just two unfortuate surnames, I'm guessing? I can't find their sources, again, but I do find a lot of records of "Semolina" as a surname in the UK during the 19th century. The poor parents had no control over that, did they?
Happy: ...yeah, it's a virtue name. And? How is that weirder than Faith, Hope, Grace, Patience, Prudence, etc?
Evil: Another census misreading- usually "Evie."
Minty Badger: "Minty" is short for Araminta/Aminta/Arminta. Still sounds like a Discworld character, but nothing would sound normal with "Badger" as a surname. Araminta Badger at least makes more sense to modern ears, though.
Freezer Breezer: Breezer was a real surname, and parents can be cruel. I don't doubt that- my dad went to school with an "Emily Memily." that being said...I did find a "Fred R. Breezer" born in 1873 in England; see above re: census misreadings. Just throwing that out there. I found it as a corruption/misspelling of "Fraser/Frasier" too.
Scary Looker: I actually found this one. It was a misreading of "Jeany" on a census- the girl's name was Jane Looker, born 1841 in Lancashire to John and Elizabeth Looker. Nice research there, team.
Farting Clack: Fasting Clack or Clark, born 1863 in London. Another lovely misreading from the census. True "Fasting Clark" is not NOT a weird name, but it's a lot less horrible than "Farting Clack" and it makes sense under the Hyper-Christian Parents category.
Princess Cheese was real, not a nickname, and not a misreading or misspelling. Princess May Cheese was born in 1896 in West Bromwich. She married one John T. Brookes in 1914- possibly eager to no longer be a Cheese?
Multiple people really have been christened Bovril, most notably one Bovril Simpson, married in West Ham in 1911.
Incredibly, Raspberry/Rasberry/Roseberry is a real given name, and Lemon a real surname. Most people named Raspberry seem to have been men.
So that's only three of their Wacky Victorian Names that are actually 100% real. Nice job, there, team. I love Ghosts, but get your collective act together!
(They did once have a skit insisting that Victorians called trousers "the southern necessity" when that's actually a phrase from the writings of famously terrible 19th-century author Amanda McKittrick Ros, whose work her contemporaries loved poking fun at. So I shouldn't be surprised)

being relatable probably wasn’t the biggest intention with this post, but i felt it DEEPLY resonated with my own personal and interpersonal experiences at the moment. i also moved pretty far from the place i grew up in and from everyone i know, and this fandom and the hyperfixation occupied a space in my brain and time in my day that if it didn’t, would have probably been occupied by less than desirable thoughts. i have also been feeling off lately and honestly, very down for not being able to contribute to the fandom (through writing or drawing, it feels like everything i do is forced and not good enough, even if the impulse to create is genuine).
this all is just to say, i see you, i hear you, you are not alone. i see myself in a lot of what you said and from the bottom of my anxious and unsure heart, i genuinely hope things get better. i don't know the answer either, but i know we are surrounded by incredibly nice people that appreciate us and see us. for what we are able to give, when we are able to give it. and when we are not, they appreciate us just for being there, being alive, being someone who they recognize as one of their own. we don't earn our place by creating, we already belong here for free (this is something i am trying to convince myself of everyday). i try everyday to convince myself that my self-isolating is an illusion and that when i step into the light, people see me. and they really do. and i appreciate so much every person that interacts with me and makes me feel like i belong. i can only hope i am able to extend this sentiment to others as i go interacting with others. i appreciate you, i see you, thank you so much for being here with all of us. thank you for being here with me
I kinda guess I would be considered a part of this fandom. Thinking and wanting to talk to endless lengths about Inuyasha and the entire fictitious world he is from is something that takes up a pretty large portion of my free time (and no so free time.)
I basically would like to say that I appreciate all of you who are so active in this fandom and keep it alive some decades after it’s initial release in the 90s. While I can be hesitant to directly comment in interact with many, I’m still here to quietly like and share the things that are put out there with my whole honest appreciation.
Lately, I’m feeling a major downturn in my mental health. If I were to map it out on a chart, it would go down six units before coming up two and nose diving once again, but further and further. I want to achieve in my career but am often set up for an extreme stress test with little to no salvation in site. I’m typically good at getting through tough spots, they suck, but I know and I will ensure that it’s not a forever feeling. Career rambling aside, what has helped me in the past is being able to to apply my passion and energy into things and topics I love. Hyper-fixate, if you will, so the juxtaposition of my means to live is balanced with something I /really/ care about.
Upon moving to a new city far, far away from my family and friends, the Inuyasha community was that but of salvation for me. I genuinely enjoy the fandom and all the pieces each person across the platforms brings.
Lately, that enjoyment has ebbed. I feel like what ever social insecurities I have have taken hold of me and now I’m oscillating between wanting to contribute to the fandom and being struck with the heaviest dose of impostor syndrome coupled with the questioning of my worth as a human being. I don’t have the answer of how to move past this feeling, but it’s making me feel estranged from those who I used to spend lots of time interacting or directly talking with in the fandom. I feel so isolated in the social space but I know it’s all of my own doing, and I don’t know how to un-do it.
Thank you if you gave this a read. I really don’t know what else to add so-uh. Bye.
#i'm sorry for reblogging this would have never fit in the comments#i am so grateful for this fandom i hope this feels like a hug to all of you#but specially memily
