this is what i mean when i say that i was afraid to admit to myself that i'm aromantic. yeah there's not systemic oppression, you definitely don't risk getting called names or god forbid being assaulted for it, it's much quieter. i went through four romantic relationships before i finally had to tell myself that i am in fact aro, and i can't change that. four. it never felt "right", and i hated myself for it, but i knew deep down, that the alternative was admitting to myself that romantic love isn't for me, and therefore, that i have a much, much higher chance of living alone and lonely for the rest of my life. which sucks, because i am a very social person! but it makes us all think that we'll never truly know that closeness that alloro people experience, because that's reserved for romantic relationships.

being on the aro spectrum would be a lot easier if being single wasn't made to feel like a literal death sentence

the reason all your favourite riordanverse ships are non-canon and brilliant is because rick wrote them accidentally

the guy only really knows one ship dynamic (the percabeth/serious x goofball formula), so anyone who he writes with the intention of coupling up ends up falling into that sooner or later. the characters he doesn't consider in this light, however, end up having more complex and interesting relationships

octakhale (i think?) i've seen it floating around for michael khale and octavian, and they would make each other worse <333

ziadie (sadie x zia from tkc) they would be soooo good together, sadie is silly but sarcastic and stands her ground (bc she knows she's smart), zia is much more serious but certainly with a softer side

tanakane (drew tanaka x sadie kane) THEY GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL THEY'D HAVE ALMOST A CARTOONISH RIVALRY and then if that's your thing they could go on an adventure together (it's very much like narnia book 6 if anyone remembers that) and fight alongside each other with snide remarks of course and eventually drew opens up about the second titan war and how silena died but she was also the traitor and how that sucked so much and she just had to deal with it somehow so she rather thought of silena as horrible because it was easier than mourning her, and they become really good friends and complete the quest and than like start dating if that's your thing

magnus x tj they're besties they're bros they're buddies it's like grovercy but cooler

im a sucker for bg characters so sherman yang from the ares cabin and malcolm pace from the athena cabin. sherpace i think we called them? it's again just two sons of war and training together and all that

thalia x rachel, because they're both alt in some way, and whether you'd see it as a friendship or perhaps a rom. relationship, i think it'd be interesting to see them interact. i think they'd hang out a lot <3

ohhh and idk how niche valzhang is, but they were so very close to looking suspiciously gay in hoo. frank thinks leo is like his whole ass rival, while leo is just out on the argo ii doing whatever. frank is the only person who knows how leo's mum died. eventually realizes they have a lot in common, yeagh they make my heart go boom boom boom

one thing running @riordanverse-ship-polls has gotten me thinking about is that the fandom should bring back a lot of old ships that got dropped. Just to mix things up and add some more variety into the fandom again. The community used to have a lot of really interesting and really varied ships but now most of the stuff you see is canon and maybe a couple of leftover things from that time or some rarepairs and that's it (and a lot of weird aggression towards people who diverge from canon ships at all). Half the major characters don't even have prominent alternative ships to canon these days. Like, did you know Hazel/Piper used to be a decently popular ship? When was the last time you saw Hazel/Piper stuff? Probably never if you're a newer fan.

anyways we could really stand to have more variety. together we can bring back variety. the fandom needs to get weirder again. like cmon we've got some new characters let's thing of some new combos.
