“I was really upset that people thought I hated women, and that I was pro-r*pe and all this other bullshit,” he says. “I was always extremely protective of my sisters, and when I got this label, I knew I’d done or said something wrong. It’s fair to say that I am sexist, though, because I hate mєn. I don’t like competition. Any creature born with testicles is a born liar. And I’ve got three testicles, so I don’t know what that makes me.”

Peter Steele lost his virginity when he was 19.

“I believe I’ve since made up for lost time,” he notes, “I consciously liked girls, and I wanted to touch them- not in a sexual way, but almost to examine them in a cold, scientific way. The softness of their skin was a very sensual thing to me.”

Religion is combined with sex in may Type O Negative songs. Steele spent eight years in a Catholic school. The “fierce” nuns use to pull his hair.

“I’m surprised I’m not mentally scarred from that,” he says. “But when they attacked me, I’d just laugh. They told my parents I had emotional problems, and my parents said, ‘We know!’

But women seem to like songs about sex and religion, judging by how many records we’ve sold. At times, there’s 80 per cent women at our shows. It’s a very strange to grow up feeling like 230lbs of mucus in a bag, and then suddenly all these girls are taking their clothes off and throwing them at you.”
