growing pains : act two, part fourteen

series synopsis : people say that you’ll experience three kinds of love in your lifetime. the first is an idealistic love, the kind that feels straight out of a fairy tale. the second is the hard love, the kind that will leave you with lessons about yourself and the love you want and need to experience. finally, the love you never see coming. this is the story of your three loves. pairing : svt 97 line x gn!reader genre/s : non-idol au, coming of age, angst, fluff, my attempts at humor act two, part fourteen wc : ~1.4k

act two : the hard love  ➤  part 14 : last half hour

when anyone asks mingyu and yn what their relationship is, they'll answer "just friends". no one believes that, not even for a second. not their friends, and certainly not mingyu and yn themselves. but with their lives in the spotlight, one more so than the other, they're about to find that even staying friends may be more difficult than it seems. especially when feelings are involved.

mingyu looks at you as if he’s seeing you for the first time. he still remembers the first time he did; waiting in the cafe that hansol chose, fiddling with your fingers as you nervously looked around. you were the first to arrive and you looked up to find him waiting in the doorway. he raises a hand, a nervous smile on his face as he waves a small hello.

“is that seat taken?” mingyu asked, gesturing to the seat opposite yours. 

he asks you the same question years later, this time in a small cafe in your hometown, with an even more nervous smile than before. but he still has that same sweet lilt in his voice and warm inviting eyes.

“it’s all yours,” you gesture to the seat, in the same way you had before. but you sit up straighter, become much more guarded than you normally were. a line has to be drawn between you and mingyu, that much you now know. you can’t risk falling back into old habits. 

you could have met up in that playground near your house, somewhere with less people. a place that felt more personal to you, and you could have spent the time telling him all the stories from your childhood. maybe even personally introduce him to shua, seokmin, chan, and seungkwan. they’ve always asked questions about mingyu anyways, despite not knowing the true nature of your relationship with him.

perhaps you could have even invited him to your childhood home. you could have shown him the frame pictures from your youth that hung near the staircase. you could have spent the afternoon baking cookies in the kitchen or shown him the yearbooks tucked behind the farthest corner of the bookshelf in your room.

mingyu sits, nodding towards the waiter who set his drink down before setting his gaze towards you, “how’s work?” his voice is sincere, swirling his straw but never taking an actual sip. it’s unlike him to make small talk with you; you’re not entirely sure how to respond. the lovable, talkative mingyu you’ve known the past few years seemed nowhere to be found.

suddenly you’re faced with the shy mingyu from your first week in university, in a completely different city from the one you knew and loved. he’s staring at his hands as he waited for you to respond to the question he had just asked.

suddenly you’re faced with the unsure mingyu from your third year in university, in the bed that you’ve come to realize is his; your clothes tossed somewhere on his bedroom floor, the morning after one of the most stressful exam weeks of your life, the beginnings of headache creeping its way to your temples, the bitter december air slipping through a crack in his window.

you remember the way his hand reached across from his side of the bed to yours, cupping your face, when he reaches across the table to cover your hand with his; the warmth of his hand snapping you out of your train of thought down memory lane.

“you alright?”

“i am.” you remove your hand from his grasp, setting it down on your lap. you don’t miss the falter in his gaze and the twitch in the corner of his mouth. “work has been good, i have a pretty big shoot scheduled tomorrow… i made new friends. mostly thanks to soonyoung though. speaking of, were you able to meet with them during your time here? i know you’ve been spending time with han, but soonyoung and hansol miss you a lot too.” 

“i wish i could, but my manager scheduled back to back shoots… and i have to leave for my flight in-” he checks the watch on his wrist, sighs and looks at you, “half an hour.”

“oh, that’s so soon.”

mingyu nods and a silence falls between the two of you, neither unsure of what exactly to say next despite the fact there’s still a giant question looming above you. it presses down down your shoulders and takes the air off your lungs. just as your lips part to speak, he beats you to the punch.

“i think we should talk about… us. definitively.”

“we are what we’ve always been, friends.” you lie through your teeth, the two of you have never been just friends. but you were also never anything more. “you’re my friend, mingyu, which is why i hope you understand why i’m going to ask something from you, to do me this favor.”

“of course, yn. anything.” he agrees almost immediately, with an eagerness that made your heart leap and crack at the same time. mingyu wants to make it up to you, more than aware of the pain and uncertainty that he’s caused you.” 

“don’t call me, or text me. unless it’s in the group chat.”

you don’t miss the heartbreak plastered in his face. your fists and chest clenches at the sight, but you take a deep breath and continue, “i think we both need the space from each other. we need to heal and we need to grow from this… we became used to falling back on each other. you came home to me, and i let you even though you could never give me the label that i wanted. i think that both of us need to work on ourselves before can be friends. actual ones.”

mingyu hangs on to your every word because he knows there’s truth to every single one of them. he nods slowly, “you’re right, and i think this means i should go.”

you frown. “your half an hour isn’t over yet.”

“i know but-” mingyu pushes his chair back, its wooden legs slide against the tiled cafe floor, before taking his wallet out and placing a couple of bills on the table for his unfinished drink, and yours. “i think it’s better if i leave sooner, the sooner we can start over and become proper friends.”

he smiles, though it doesn’t quite reach his eyes in the way that you’re used to, and you can’t help but nod in agreement. 

mingyu lets his gaze linger just a few seconds longer before he forces himself to stand and leave, knowing that it could be the last time he sees you like this. he knows where he went wrong, is more than aware of his shortcomings. he knows he’s not able to give you the life that you deserve, and mingyu remembers the first day he met you, radiant and dazzling; he would not be the only person to see that. someone will eventually come along and give you their heart, the entirety of themselves to you without a single shred of doubt and hesitation. while he hopes that he could have been that person, he also hopes — much more — that when that person comes along, you’re able to open your heart and live life without regrets with that person. 

he stands and doesn’t give himself the luxury of asking for a hug, believing that he doesn’t deserve it. “live happily, okay? for me.”         

“no, i’ll do it for me.” you respond just as soon as he finishes his sentence. from where you’re seated, you reach out to hold his hand, grateful that he hasn’t started walking away just yet, and give it a couple of gentle squeezes,  “live happily too, for you.. and, i hope you can meet someone you would gladly take that risk for.”

mingyu nods knowingly, understanding the kind of risk you were referring to; letting himself love freely, without thinking of the risks. just falling, eyes and heart wide open. he squeezes your hand in return before letting it go, “i hope so too.” 

“goodbye, mingyu.” you finally speak the words he’s never wanted to hear from you, but not letting more than a second pass before following it up with a quiet, yet sincere, “i’ll see you soon.”

mingyu blinks back the tears that pricked at the corners of his eyes; you had faith in your friendship, more importantly, you had faith in him. everything would eventually be okay. someday. for now, he’d have to leave. 

“i’ll see you soon. goodbye, yn.”

Ok, so... I have an idea for a story for Heeseung but i suck a writting so I 'm going to put it here and pray for someone to like it and writed it.

I was thinking about a Heeseung x reader, we're reader is the 8th member of BTS, She's 97line like Jungkook, and she always been Heeseung's favorite artist, like he always been inspired by her and at the start he has this platonic crush on her that later turns to actual love, but she always treats him and the rest of her dongsaengs (TXT and Enhypen) as babys... like making sure that they eat well, taking care of them and helping them with music or choreographies, basically being a good noona. So Heeseung is taking advantage of the fact that the boys are in the service 😭 (cause she's their princess) and She's spending more time with her dongsaengs by trying to show her that he is no a baby anymore and that he is all grow up and loves her but she is kind of oblivious, so several fun things happen until she realizes his and her feelings.

Also she calls him Bambi and she was the one who gave him that nickname when BTS went to I-Land she said his eyes reminded of Bambi.

So... That's My idea, I hope someone likes it and write it ☺️ and I'm sorry if I misspelled something I'm still leaning english.

i wonder what happened to the other 97line members. i know they may have busy schedules but jk does too but he finds space for his friends. Yugyeom seemed closer to jk than everyone, but there is not even a picture of them together now.

The ones he's currently super close with appear to be Mingyu & Cha Eunwoo.

I think DK and The8, just don't hang out with him much but I still think they're friends

I've always felt that Jaehyun rarely hangs out with the others and Bang Chan is relatively new to the group.

As for BamBam, I get the impression he spends a lot of time in Thailand, so is probably not got a lot of free time to just hang,

Now Yugyeom is fascinating as he's recently stated he does meet up with JK and the others, but we've never really seen it much lately, so perhaps he too is really busy.

Having said that though, I do get the impression that occasionally most of the 97 do meet up as a big group every so often.

According to them JK skipped the non busy members of bts, 97line, non celebrity friends, family, Bam and went straight to awkward, blabbermouth coworker. Then he had to correct blabbermouth coworker's stories of their totally frigid hangouts. Finally as a thank you for all the trouble he even likes a tiktok edit of the two of them flirting. If I were them I'd doubt my son-in-law's apparent distaste for his co-worker.

If they genuinely believed the things they said about Taekook, they'd be more secure, but don't, hence the ass-backwards takes.

You didn't question the quiet waiting room, it was a rarity. Any quiet was scarce nowadays actually. You were tired and your feet hurt after being cramped into uncomfortable shoes all night. You lie down on the couch, intending to rest your eyes for a moment, but quickly end up falling asleep.

The first time you are awoken, it's because of a loud bang. When you wake up with a start, 8 boys stare back at you in surprise, not having realized you were there when they first walked in. It was Jaehyun and his friends, who were currently hunched over a bag they dropped. Jaehyun quickly coaxes you back down with some assurance that everything was fine and that he'd wake you before he left.

The second time, Mark and Nabi walk in together. They weren't particularly loud or anything, but Lily was a light sleeper and woke anyway.

The third time, not even 5 minute after the second, it's due to familiar yelling.

"Noona!"

"Wait, Lily-ssi, here me out-"

"Noona, you think I'm going to win right?"

Before you even have the chance to sit up, 6 boys are already trying to talk over each other at you. With a sigh, you crawl over the couch to face them and rub your eyes.

They begin to bicker, something you might have gotten in between when you first debuted but now you don't bother. Mark had once told you something about how "boys will be boys" and to just let them figure it out themselves sometimes when you used to stress out about it.

"What are they arguing about?" Jaehyun asks, mouth half full, something you decide to ignore this time. His friends, the 97 line group, sit around, looking up at the arguing group before turning back to their food. Mark comes around and sits down beside you as you turn your ear in their direction, trying to catch a word or sentence that'll make sense.

"Can't say I'll miss this when we graduate," Mark jokes as he nudges your shoulder with his own. He and Nabi were getting ready to leave, something about having dinner after not properly seeing each other for a while.

"I think I will," you admit quietly. While they didn't bicker often, one may find it bothersome when they do, but to you, it only exemplified their comfort and familiarity within each other. You didn't bicker with someone you didn't like. What you didn't notice, was that 1 of your boys was quieter and hung back a bit from the main group.

You finally catch something that makes sense.

"Aigoo, they're talking about that rooftop fight again," you sigh. It had been a topic of major conversation within the last couple months since Mark became an adult, now they only had to wait a few more years for Jisung.

"Yah, all of you are fighting for second place anyway, I'm going to win," Mark boasts as he gets up and immediately pulls Jaemin into a headlock. Jaemin, as he usually does, wrestles Mark off and simply stares at you for a bit. You glance at him, but when you meet his eyes, he simply slinks away and out. He had been ignoring you for weeks, and you'd be lying if you said it didn't hurt your feelings. You turn and watch him go before Jisung grabs your attention again.

"Lily-ssi-"

"Yah, when did you start calling me Lily? Have some respect, I ate 3 more years worth of rice than you did," you rebut, now fully awakened. Jisung comes around and gets on his knees in front of you, much to the others dismay.

"Noona, you think I'm going to win, right? Me, your babiest baby?" Jisung coos, turning on his cuteness in hopes you wouldn't able to say no.

"Oh, Jisungie, it's too early to start picking sides, don't you think? You still have a few years left to grow and-"

"So you agree? You acknowledge the fact we're having a rooftop fight?" Mark cuts in, a smile growing on his face as you seemingly fall right into their little trap.

"That's it! We've got all 8 to agree!"

"Bullocks," you curse under your breath as Jisung jumps up to join the other members. You couldn't believe they baited you with Jisung.

"You're too nice, noona, it's easy to trick you," Chenle laughs as he pats your head. Jaehyun has a knowing look on his face and smiles softly to himself. You motion for him to keep quiet.

"Aigoo, I have a headache now," you sigh as you rub your temple.

"Nabi and I are going for dinner, do you guys want to come?" Mark asks the other Dreamies, desperate to leave before you can figure out how to worm your way out of the mess. The others agree and quickly leave to grab their coats.

"Don't feel bad, Mark always figures out a way to get his way," Nabi laughs as she pats your shoulder and kisses Jaehyun goodbye.

"Lily, are you coming?" Mark asks, inviting you along.

"No, you go ahead. Don't take Jaemin with you either," you tell him. He nods and takes Nabi with him, following the others out.

"What's the rooftop fight?" Jungkook asks once they all leave.

"When Jisung becomes an adult, they want to have a January rooftop fight, in the rain, in suits, just have it all out for fun," you explain.

"But it doesn't rain in January," Dongmin points out. You simply shrug your shoulders in response. When you brought up that fact last time, they had simply ignored you.

"Do you manipulate all of us like that?" Jaehyun asks as he leans back in his seat.

"I'm not manipulating anyone, Jaehyunnie, that sounds bad. I just know how to handle you all, it's easy if you pay close enough attention," you shrug.

"Wait, what?" Seokmin questions, officially confused.

"They didn't trick her into doing anything, did they?" Jaehyun asks, narrowing his eyes at you. Without any of the afflicted nearby, you can finally give it up.

"They're just getting anxious about me and Mark graduating, trying to make future plans with us and all that, it's cute and there's no harm in playing along," you answer.

"What's that thing you say? Half the fun is in the planning?" Jaehyun recalls. It was something you had told him and the others a few times so they wouldn't shut down some of Haechan's, more vibrant ideas, during 127 meetings. Playing along with their little games had never done any harm, in your experience. Half the fun is in the planning and anticipation, so you were just letting them have their fun.

You never failed to surprise Jaehyun with your attentiveness, noticing the things that others never really seemed. He's tried paying more attention before, but even then, he still misses things.

"So what, you're just going to fight them? I would pay to see that," DK laughs.

"Pfft, none of them will ever lay a hand on me, game or not. I'll just watch and make sure they don't throw anyone over the edge," you laugh. Most likely, they'd gang up on Jisung or Chenle, or both.

"Why aren't you letting Jaemin go with them?" Jaehyun asks suddenly.

"Jaemin...is another problem I have to fix," you answer, trying not to divulge too much about Jaemin's privacy.

"Where did everyone else go?" Jaemin asks as he walks back in, heading back towards the long abandoned makeup mirrors and changing racks. You look at Jaehyun and he motions for you to go ahead, already knowing you couldn't help yourself in trying to fix their problems. You bow politely to the others before making your way over to the boy.

"Jaeminnie, did I do something wrong?" you question as you hop up onto one of the chairs.

"No, why would you think that?" he asks back.

"Because, love, you've been avoiding me for weeks. What's going on?" you ask him. You already had a feeling, but didn't want to assume.

"Nothing's wrong," he denies as he tries to walk past you. You grab his wrist and he allows you to pull him back and sit him in the chair across from you.

"It's stupid," he sighs as he rubs his temple.

"I'm sure it's not. Whatever it is, we can figure it out but you have to tell me so I can help," you tell him as you reach forward and take his fidgeting hand in yours.

"I don't know, it's just you and Mark hyung, I always knew the two of you would graduate first but I didn't expect it to bother me so much. And I keep thinking about the time I was injured and didn't promote with the 7 of you, it's missed time. It's just not fair, I didn't get the same amount of time with the two of you like the others did," he pouts as he lays his head on the table. You nod understandingly as you rub his back. He was trying to ignore you and Mark now so it wouldn't hurt so much later.

"You can't get rid of me that easily, agi, Mark and I will still be around all the time," you remind him as you caress the back of his head.

"I know, that's why I feel so bad for ignoring you," he whines.

"It's not just you, love, I don't like it either," you assure him.

"We haven't gone to the river together in a while, want to go now? Like old times?" you ask him. When you both had first debuted, the nerves got to him a little so the two of you used to sneak out and just walk along the Han river. But with your busy schedules, you hadn't gone in over a year.

"You don't have to go with me just to make me feel better-"

"I want to go. Come on, we can walk, talk, and I'll buy you something to eat," you suggest.

"Can it just be the two of us?" he asks, not yet knowing you had already sent everyone away in anticipation.

"Sure, go grab your coat and we'll go," you nod. He gets up and quickly pulls you into a hug.

"I'm sorry I was so mean," he apologizes, apology half muffled by your shoulder.

"You weren't mean, baby, it's okay," you assure him. He clears his throat and quickly jogs out towards his own waiting room while you grab your coat. You send a quick wave to Jaehyun, so he knows you're leaving and doesn't end up waiting for you. He nods in your direction before you quickly go over to catch up with Jaemin.

"So, Jaeminnie, what do you want to eat?"

I don’t know if you’re already aware of them but I came across a group called TAN with their debut song du du du (they were formed out of a show called extreme debut:wild idol). I’m OBSESSED with the song for some reason and wanted your thoughts on the music video.

tan my second gen flop group reject beloveds......... you're obsessed with the song bc it's fucking GOOD that's why!!!! also i was not kidding they are hardcore channelling second gen with everything they've fucking got: from the song itself (r&b is decidedly not on trend rn) to the fact that the mv was filmed with $12 but they refused to use any location filming that would smooth out the rough edges to the prop based choreo to the STYLING!!!!!!!!! it is absolutely not reflected in the mv at all but all their music show stages are based around this black/white/gradiant duality styling that is soooooooooooooooo 'we have $8 and some pocket lint and a stray safety pin but by god we're gonna make this work' of second gen like my eyes blew out of my head every new stage i watched. like look at this!:

if someone had told me that was from 120322 instead of from 220312 i would have wholecloth believed them. the only thing that gives them away is that there isn't enough eyeliner. the ONLY thing. and i'm not even joking this is not at all a one off, this was a dedicated intentional choice that they upheld for their ENTIRE promo period:

but by far my favourite is 220326 music core where they have GRADIENT TUXEDOS!!!!!!! actually my other favourite is this gradient pink inkigayo stage, because obviously. it would have been so easy for their stylists to just slap some generic fourth gen type normal clothes on them (which to an extent they did do in the mv), but instead they really dug into this old style coordinating + themed outfits. the mv struggles a bit because there are a lot of ideas happening but see also aforementioned budget of $12. obviously companies wanna put out something big for a debut mv so i don't fault them there but i think they should have encorporated more of the opposites theme of the styling+choreo into the visuals of them mv itself. they could have done a lot more with light/dark imagery and with the umbrella in the choreo they could have gone for a gentleman/'kingsmen' concept that would have been a lot cleaner of a visual and also would smooth over some of the visual discrepency between the fact that one of the members first debuted TEN YEARS AGO and the maknae is still 17, and they can't really do the sexy second gen concept i think they were partially trying to go for. the gratuituous ass shot of taehoon was extremely funny though. you can do very stylized mvs for cheap (see my cheap mvs post!) and i think if they had done something similar to knk's sunset or even oneus' valkyrie (speaking of other insanely good debuts) where there's a heavy emphasis on lighting and camera angles and editing, it would have made much more of an impact. the less money you have to work with the harder it becomes to make maximalist decorated sets work, and sometimes you do have to sacrifice in some areas. regardless of that though i think their debut was success and if you haven't listened to the rest of their mini you should because all the songs fuck (i really hope we get a comeback from them because i want the second half of fix you so bad) and it's very pretty clear that they're all talented and have the vocal chops to back themselves up; see this acapella cover!!

Maeil (aka Daily)

there are two meanings to their ship name

first is, of course, their names mashed together but the second meanings is much cuter and the one fans use to explain their dynamic

When Mae found out their ship name was Maeil her first reaction was “Oh? Is it because I make sure to let Taeil hyung I love him daily?” while cuddling Taeil on a couch

he’s the same age as Mae’s older brother so she treats him as such

her brother is literally like “Are you replacing me with Taeil? I’m your reall brother!” and she’s just there sweating

part of Taeil’s hype squad and will fight donghyuck for the position of president

like the two were on vlive and spent a good fifteen minutes arguing about their positions in the club Mae won but donghyuck refuses to acknowledge it

he could be doing something simple and you can see Mae in the background with a big smile cheering

he’s also like her personal teddy bear whenever she wants cuddles and/or wants to rest

Like there was this one time Johnny the two were playing Smash Bros and Mark was whining because he lost and Mae was jumping in the background cheering it was his fourth loss in a row but he won’t say it

they were kinda awkward around each other at first so johnny literally had to stick them in a room together and didn’t let them leave until they talked to each other

it worked and they just vibed and rambled about different topics like trainee life and what mark’s life in Vancouver was like

speaking of Vancouver

one time during their stay in Vancouver they wanted to have a friend date but he lost her at a mall and took twenty minutes trying to find her until she used the announcement service to call him

I would say yes.

The boys have offered her to be in the groupchat as well but she sees it as more of a “guy thing” that she doesn’t want to get involved in because she’s afraid that she’ll feel like she only got added bc of her members. She has gone out with them to eat and party before and is friends with them but she doesn’t always tag along when they go out.

DK, Mingyu, and Minghao dragged her to go out with them and meet the rest of the group because they want her to not be as shy when it comes to meeting new people. Now she’s very thankful for it because she got close to Yugyeom who is now under AOMG and she’s a fan of the K-HipHop industry👀
