Sketch dump! Vol. 5

September 2022 (Part 1/2)

The first piece on top summarised my cosplay rush for Tracon 2022! The second is an old idea for a charm.

"SURPRISE!!"

Back in 2022 I hosted an art raffle for reaching 777 followers on Twitter! The winner would get their submas themed idea realised (which was their friends throwing a surprise party for the twins!). I wanted to make a little comic and have the bosses walk in their office where depot agents, Elesa, Drayden, Skyla, Clay etc. would be waiting with decorations and treats and games.

Emmet is all smiles of course while Ingo gets so emotional he could only whisper a "super bravo".

Not really headcanons anymore but still funny ideas.

1. Emmet gets clumsy when off-rhythm! He starts walking in curves if there is nobody else around to match his rhythm with.

2. Emmet spaces out/forgets to say things aloud when someone speaks too long or when things go off-script! His thinking gets interrupted easily.

3. Ingo sometimes bumps into doors because he is too used to automatic doors!

4. When things go off-script Ingo speaks too much and rushes in straight lines"

Also my little inexpensive sketchbook & my trusty tools! Mechanical pencil and eraser pen are life when scribbling my skrimblos smaller than a postage stamp!

More Ingo~ I utilise a wide range of sources for references, including CSP's poseable 3D models, they can come really handy with perspectives and proportions!

The second piece is my very first attempt at cosplay in Tracon 2022: Blingo! I walked in with a sequin hat, leather jacket, leather pants and high heel patent leather boots.

The hardest part of cosplaying Ingo is remembering NOT to smile ahaha!

I drew these for a huge submas art collaboration over Twitter hosted by @/mimizukeii!! It was technically my first art collab before I started arranging them myself with Aggie/Magma.

While looking for train related songs I found this cute nursery rhyme to go with the marching:

I wanted to compare these silly twins, planning to do something more silly with them later. Also a sketch of @/fukurow's butler designs I never finished.. The capes compliment them so well, I love them!!

Prequel to this piece! Emmet is so confident in himself he thinks Pierce wants to learn from him but is invited for a duet on the stage instead!!

Emmet has really great voice actors in Pokemas! I especially love how his english VA gives him that bri'ish/posh/sophisticated vibe while also soft and melodic! I know for SURE this VA/Emmet can sing, I can show you later!

Ooooh thank you for this ask!

How do I answer it in a satisfying way without starting to happily ramble about things even more beyond my rambling ability? I'll try.

Varda has a high voice but not shrieking. Her voice is rich, not hollow like Melkor's. While his would be like a trumpet, her would be something clearer, but still I would say a wind instrument. Piercing, but clear, cold but not icy. I'm bad with instruments. Or maybe a violin. If we could imagine something that sounds like a violin but also a bit woodwindy…. Or if a flute could be really loud. With an intense but controlled emotion underneath, until she would release it. Like a very technically good singer-actress.

Arien would be similar, but with the emotions fully present. Just in contrast to other fire spirits it's not rage. Or at least it's a holy kind of rage? Also, her voice is a bit lower. Still a soprano but less insane in scale.

BTW I forgot to include the "their choices were like instruments" part on the previous ask.

Manwë must sound like a wind instrument, obviously, and I would say a woodwind, because they sound less demanding and more kind. Middle pitch, one of those who disappear easily, though in the Second Theme he was one of the main singers, so… what's the woodwind analogue of a cello? Clarinet? But clarinet sounds as if it had a cold. :( Also, birdlike. So, yes, maybe a clarinet.

I do have a bit of a problem with Manwë, because he is the king, but also he is rather … not passive, but how do I say it? Not very attention-grabbing. It would have to be one of the difficult to compose parts where the melody is belowe part of the accompanyment. It's hard to not let it disappear, but it can be done.

OK, if we just assume that it's him and Varda together, it's much easier.

Eonwë would be probably like a kind of trumpet anyway, or a French horn maybe? Something military-like. Relatively high, a tenor to say it in human terms. Very orderly, no chromatic notes (I don't think Manwë did them either).

Ulmo is the ultimate bass. He is the lowest of the lowest, like the deep sea. Not adding to the melody, not easily noticeable but he is the one that tells us which chord are we doing (except inversions). He…. sets the tone, to say it simply.

Aulë is also rather low, but not as low. And I would say he is always in the bechground (especially because Melkor stole a huge part of his spotlight), he is a supporting instrument. In orchestra terms, I would say a timpani, because all the banging sounds of smithing. And I like timpani. And if not this, anyway he would be like a pitched percussion, something metal, tubular bells? (Also, Mairon is totally a metal... glockenspiel? something like this. Or the glass thing? One of those with very clear, somewhat child-like tone, and very pretty.)

Nienna goes between rather high and middle tone, but she generally joins others, harmonizes to others instead of trying to create her own melody. She adds the chromatic tones, but lessens the conflict between melodic lines. In terms of instruments, probably a viola. Very lyrical.

Yavanna… I don't know, I don't like her too much, she of all the Valar has most of the Elvish "I don't like it whe things end" energy. Relatively loud, high but rich, and not as high as Varda. Less like an instrument and more like a wordless voice. A lot of emotion in the voice, primal, protective, pained sometimes.

Námo. I have no idea. Very few parts, mostly silence, but when he sings it's important. Like a piano that only plays at the cadences or half-cadences at least. And just like a piano he is not extra loud, but he is impossible to not notice. In terms of vocal, very controlled, emotionless, with the frustrating clenched throat thing that tells you "yes, if anyone here knows anything about making music this song will have a reprise because this tension has to go somewhere".

Vaíre. (Does she have the accent even?) By visual association, it should be something with strings. So probably cello. Mostly background, but a more interesting kind of background than Aulë got.

Irmo. I need to learn those accents one day… Something swingy, but less obnoxious than a saxophone. Relatively high voice, but not outstandingly high.

Este. Something quiet, for sure. In terms of human voices, an alto. In terms of instruments, something quiet but with a muffling effect on others? More like brown noise than actual instrument, but no, it needs to be a proper instrument. So something with a "dirty" tone but not ugly or ominous? Again in terms of singing, imagine an alto with a sore throat, this effect, how do you call it? The way it changes your voice.

Oromë is medium pitched, and horn-like. Most of his melody is just trying to block Melkor and his lackeys. That's what he does. He's good at it. I'm not sure what this means exactly in terms of music, probably doubling the important (and most in conflict with Melkor) chord tones.

Vána would have a high but not extra high voice, and very birdlike, playful. In terms of instruments imagine as if those clay birds that you pour water into could do a melody. Her song is laughter-like.

Oh, and the more "primitive" four (Oromë, Vána, Nessa and Tulkas) are, I would say, Singing in a pentatonic scale that is a subset of the general key. In lay terms: they are singing in harmony with the others, but simpler. I would probably ass a tangent about scales at the end.

Tulkas is a bass, of course, but not as low as Ulmo. He is loud and simple, but well harmonized with the others. He does maybe get a tad too loud when trying to sing over Melkor. Maybe.

Nessa is very staccato (a lot of short notes), like halfway between singing, laughter and a xylophone. Medium to high tone.

OK, so now about scales.

First we have the pentatonic scale (For example: C, D, F, G, A). It's simple, has only 5 notes and you can't get a dissonance or anything very "ugly" when playing just it. This also means it can't create much tension, you can't have a lot of emotion, or a satysfying climax to a melody. I imagine the First Theme as pentatonic scale. Not necessarily very literarly in terms of real music (Tolkien would say I cannot), but in terms of the general... vibe? I would approximate its nature by the concept of a pentatonic scale.

Then we have the normal major or minor scale. The white keys, basically. Using those it is possible to mess up, because they do have some dissonances between scale tones (B-F, B-C and E-F especially). And for the very same reason, you can have tension. you can have emotion. And you can have a resolution, because you can have a dissonance and then resolve it (move it into a consonance in a way that is satysfying).

Major scale is the scale that goes from C, it's typically considered happy and more powerful. Minor scale starts from A, and is considered more sad. But it's more complex than that.

Also, chords: again we have minor and major (and others)

major chords are chords like CEG, GBD, and FAC (I am using B in the English sense, what in Polish we would call H). They sound more powerful and more triumphant.

minor chords are chords like ACE, DFA, and EGB. they sound more sad, less powerful I would say.

and then we have power chords. They are just empty inside: just CG, or DA, or EB and so on. With a noisy enough instrument (like a distorted electric guitar), due to physics of sound and resonances, they end up sounding like major chords and tbh they sound cool, but from a music theory point of view they look really stupid. Obviously, they are neither minor or major.

maybe let's not get into stuff like suspended chords and jazzy 6-chords, let's just say that they are verious kinds of chords. And the more chromatic the chord (ie the more complex, the less it is like a power chord or just a blatant banging onto an octave) the wider voicing it needs to sound good. A wide voicing means larde gaps between notes when you look at them on the score they are … the score is tall.

And then we can have other scales, and we can have chromatic tones, which means: tones that are theoretically not in the scale but we use them anyway (it's a sad song but we sing it anyway) (because some jerk tried to make a mess for example). They can create a lot of problems and sound ugly when used wrong, but also they allow for intense emotion (think: Chopin).

And again, with the use of chromatic tones, we can have the more interesting chords. We can get into more jazzy sounds, into chords that can't be properly classified as minor or major (and in contrast to power chords I would say the answer is closer to "both" than to "neither"), that theoretically would have internal tension but surprisingly they don't when they are spread enough and with less classical set of chords there are more toold for interesting resolution of dissonances.

I will not apologize, though maybe I shoud have warned you beforehand that I do have a thing about … I don't even know how to call it exactly. Anyway I like talking about absurd questions like "which scales was Ainulindale in" in the same way Medieval philosophers loved to discuss angels on a pin or stuff like this. It does make sense in my head.

If I had time to get into composing again… Which won't happen in at least a year. Not that I ever got too far with it. But I did got a bit somewhere and I have too many things I don't know how to express otherwise.

gavriil. — you think with looks like his he might sound like an actual angel singing to you while you ascend but NO. his voice very much HURTS. it's always echoes, almost vibrates and sounds like it's coming from your head. he can change it ofc and tone it done for you a little so you can talk to him without headaches <,,) somewhat official and ominous at first, wants to sound as menacing as possible for his first impression. but then, down the line and if he likes you enough, he'll be very casual and nonchalant, throwing in curses and all that. doesn't have a particular accent because bro literally knows every language on earth and more, sounds a little uncanny if anything. artificial maybe. but still just as lively, teasing and sometimes dramatic. purrs... sometimes. can speak directly into your mind and read it too.

xiaolong. — has the most enjoyable voice out the bunch. velvet, melodic, charming. always sounds very convincing and can sell you anything. literally the perfect host. languid and mellow, has a habit of humming "mmm"; "hmm?";"mmhm" and sighing. his voice claim is john park, korean va for espresso cookie, and i think xiao himself has a korean accent. very expressive but also very collected. won't say anything unnecessary. rarely curses.

taisya\tasechka. — jumbled and gurgled speech. absolutely horrid voice, but he usually speaks slowly so you can more or less understand what he says. breathes really hard and swallows words when excited. doesn't speak unless spoken to, and even then gives short, vague answers. no intonations whatsoever. prefers to just shake/nod his head or point and gesture with his hands if he wants something. has an ability to purr too but his version is a little more fucked up.

derzena. — monotone, expressionless, blunt. you will never understand if she's joking or not because this woman is like a BRICK WALL her face and voice never betray her. voice is raspy but pretty quiet, speaks slowly and steadily, clearly thinking everything over in her head before saying something. mimics human speech\animal noises to lure in men that are trespassing on her grounds to later eat them 💪 with her beloved often makes those quick "ekekeke" noises (like the ones cats make when they see a bird or smth...) to show affection. SAVE ME BIG cRYPTID WOMAN

veniamin. — rough, gruff voice. clicks his tongue so loudly he can probably shatter the fucking windows. exasperated and dramatic at all times. usually pretty loud, groans and sighs all the time when annoyed. in the mornings his voice is so raspy it's startling. curses a lot. mocks people's voices when he's angry at them or tries to put them in their place. or just to be a little annoying. HORRIBLE at singing yet does it all the time when he walks around in his house wearing nothing but a robe.

livy. — rarely speaks, usually resorts to clicks and chirps, maybe even hisses if threatened. doesn't have a lot of practice in speaking actual words, so it might be a little hard at first. at least for you, because he seems to understand you perfectly fine, it's you who doesn't understand what mothman wants from you half the time. surprisingly soft but hoarse voice... very warm sounding, idk. pauses and forgets the right words sometimes, but it does not stop him from teasing YOU.

in conclusion. france from hetalia is the greatest character ever brought into creation and the babygirl of all time. im completely normal about him. he's my perfect sweetie angel who's never done anything wrong ever and i want to squorsh him and squeeze him and grind him into a fine powder for snorting or perhaps injection

What do you think Minnie's voice sounds like? Or who do you think would be her voice actor if she was in the show? I just imagine her having a sweet old lady voice.

This is a tough question to answer bc minnie’s voice has been bouncing around in my head for years but i’ve never had to pin it down. So sorry if my explanation doesn’t make sense to a normal person lol.

So i think a good way to describe minnies voice in short order is, CERTAIN, BOLD, MELODIC, and UNUSUAL.

Its not a higher pitch, more towards the middle or on the low end of the spectrum. Its a little gruff from her years in space and her age (like rick but not as bad).  She also has a slight accent! (like rick)* but its pretty subtle. And she will sometimes pepper yiddish words or phrases into her speech. 

She has a habit of raising her voice/yelling for dramatic effect but bouncing back immediately afterwards. (think righteous yet pointless anger for comedic effect. A character that springs to mind for this is Master Shake from aqua teen hunger force). Ive mentioned b4 thats shes big on nicknames and she will use them (good and bad) in conversation often. (calling rick angel and babydoll vs changing to calling him numbnuts and shithead on a dime. She truly is a very emotional person, and in more serious moments will choose her words very carefully but in day to day conversation she has a low filter. She is as quick to yell at you as she is to fuss over you).

I heard someone describe a person’s voice as melodic once because of the way they shifted between tone, pitch, and volume quickly as they spoke and i think thats a good way to describe minnie’s manner of speech.

Minnie says what she says very strongly/certainly and is more likely to draw out her words and fill silence with little phrases or emphasis (ex: and well/ you know/ and THEN/ so uh/and when you really think about it/ or rather…) when thinking of what she’ll say next rather than stuttering for example. 

When minnie gets particularly excited or engages in baby talk she will rapidly shift her voice in tone and pitch in a way that i can hear so clearly in my mind but that is so hard to find examples of anywhere lol. The closest i can think of rn is this small but by linda on bobs burgers but imagine it 10x more contrasted (between cooing and yelling) and more obnoxious. Actually linda isnt a bad place to start picturing minnies voice, but again minnie accent isnt nearly as think.

If i had to pick a voice actor the first person off the top of my head would be Natasha Lyonne. (spoilers for an episode of poker face in the link) And she does have a certain gruffness to her voice that is in line with what i feel like minnie has. (but lesser on the accent). OKAY WAIT, i actually just rewatched some smokey quartz (natasha lyonne VA) scenes from steven universe and they are INCREDIBLY close to minnies voice! (1)

And now that i’m thinking about it Griffin Mcelroy is a good voice example too, specifically (in regards to the fluctuation of tone in his voice when goofing) this example from the MBMBaM podcast from like 2017 22 Slices is a great example of this. (Obviously this is exaggerated for comedy but is a good example of the melodic nature of her voice. Not melodic like a song, melodic like someone riffing about pizza to make you laugh).

Every Me, Every You - kitsubasa and scientificSpeculator - Vriska and Eridan, 2012 - the only duet of this pair despite this relationship being a cornerstone of how both of them define themselves by people they're not i.e. their ancestors. this is two people fighting that push-pull of the appeal of Living Up To Legendary Greatness versus contorting yourself into somebody you never were. and the source song rules. the rewrite is sharp. the only homestuck parody i have sung at normie karaoke. i covered it recently

Ok so immediately we know it’s been either a day or two since the last episode. Blitzo keeps trying to talk while Stolas is giving him the cold shoulder.

“I want to feel like I’m earning my way to earth”

Ok. So Stolas is being passive aggressive, and Blitzo is bad at communicating. This is already starting to go bad.

“It’s not an imp’s place to protect a Goetia is it?”

“Think I’m a prince that so much better than you. Why would I allow everyone to see how much I like you? How I tried so hard to spend time with you, to support you? You don’t owe me those things but you can’t just ignore all that.”

“Oh sorry this entire time I assumed the worst because I was convinced a prince could never love someone like me and I’ve let my self hatred stop me from apologizing to anyone I could care about.”

Ok. So both Stolas and Blitzo are aware of the issue right? Yes blitzo has self hatred issues. Yes he would think that a prince would look down on his race/class, why wouldn’t he? Stolas is in the wrong for not understanding why Blitzo would feel that way. Especially since Stolas was showing off their relationship.

Also Stolas bring up Striker 👀 I hope he comes back. I hope he and Blitzo can talk. Also Blitzo was kind of right that he assumed that Stolas can take care of himself since he’s so powerful. And didn’t he knew that he was being assassin on? Like his wife literally talk about this to his face at the dinner table once…

Timeline! This is now in October?? On Halloween?? Ok. :/

Ok, so in the party Blitzo seems to have many ex that are other imps, demons, shark or Aqua people, and hellhounds? Did Blitzo meet those people before he adopted Luna? Also Verosika voice is much noticeably different, it more high pitched and she call people baby. Tho that might be because she’s drunk. It’s very interesting to see that Stolas is the odd one out. He’s both royalty and a bird.

Stolas VA is a very good singer. I think the genre fit the guy the most! The other songs he sung were slow and more melodic, why this is also slow it has a more rock feel to it?

Stolas wants to be someone’s someone. To be wanted in a romantic way. But Blitzo can’t give him that. Both of them have issues. But him and that demon guy? I feel like Stolas moving on from the relationship would be for good for both of them.

Blitzo and Verosika talk was interesting. Verosika is right that it’s hard to be valuable, and that she wanted to help the other exs to move on. But Blitzo was also in the right, because why is he the bad guy for being bad at relationships and not being valuable? There a communication issues that goes both ways and we know that Blitzo is bad at feeling.

Verosika singing voice is so beautiful.

Besides the songs the episode was kind of pointless? Yeah it finally shows Stolas knows what Blitzo was feeling during the relationship. And the two going their own separate way, but yeah that bout it. Man I do done with the dumb love issues.

Anouar Brahem : Vague / E la nave va

This album by Anouar Brahem (Le Voyage De Sahar) is a masterful fusion of traditional Arabic music with elements of contemporary jazz, showcasing an artistic sensibility that transcends borders and genres.

One of my favorite pieces is "Vague / E la nave va," which stands out for its ability to transport the listener to a contemplative state, evoking arid landscapes and open skies. The composition is a musical dialogue between the oud, François Couturier's piano, and Jean-Louis Matinier's accordion. Brahem leads with his delicate and expressive touch on the oud, offering a melodic narrative that fluctuates between nostalgia and introspection.

The piece unfolds with a structure that seems simple on the surface but reveals melodic and harmonic depth upon deeper listening. Couturier's piano chords add a subtle atmosphere, creating a harmonic cushion that intertwines with the oud, while the accordion contributes a melancholy yet bright color, drawing nuances that enrich the musical texture.

The rhythm of the composition moves with the calm of waves, reflected in its title ("Vague," meaning "wave" in French). The fluidity of the passages and the way the instruments complement each other suggest an intimate and serene conversation between the musicians, achieving a cohesion that envelops the listener in an almost cinematic trance.

IN THIS MOMENT's latest album, "Godmode", arrived back in October via BMG. The LP was produced by Kane Churko (ROB ZOMBIE, DISTURBED, PAPA ROACH) and Tyler Bates. Bates produced, wrote songs for, and played multiple instruments on albums by MARILYN MANSON, BUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell. He is best known, however, for scoring the box office smash "300", the Emmy Award-winning Showtime series "Californication", the "Guardians Of The Galaxy" and "John Wick" film franchises. IN THIS MOMENT's song "I Would Die For You" appeared on the soundtrack for "John Wick: Chapter 4", for which Bates wrote the score.

With a Grammy nomination ("The In-Between", 2021),platinum and gold record sales, multiple Top 25 entries on the Billboard Top 200 ("Black Widow" and "Ritual"),hits including "Whore", "Blood" and "Adrenalize" and career streams of more than 1.3 billion, you'd think IN THIS MOMENT might rest on their laurels. Instead, they've created "Godmode", 10 dynamic songs that mark a new high for the quintet, further cementing their legacy in the heavy music world. Proof positive is in "Godmode"'s first single, the industrial-heavy yet ultra-melodic "The Purge", and its darkly cinematic video directed by Jensen Noen (BRING ME THE HORIZON, DEMI LOVATO). From the portentous start of the '90s-tinged "Godmode" with Maria Brink's powerful primal scream to the pitch-perfect cover of Bjork's 1995 "Army Of Me" to the impassioned pain to partnership in "Everything Starts And Ends With You", "Godmode" is a cut above.

The L.A.-based band's eighth album finds vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth writing the most powerful songs of their career.

"We're always striving for reinvention and growth. It's been 10 years since our 'Blood' album, and there's been a lot of transitions happening, this year particularly, but it all felt so meant to be," explains Brink. Top talent aided and abetted IN THIS MOMENT; Spencer Charnas from ICE NINE KILLS guests on the pointed and pained "Damaged", and several songs were co-written with Tyler Bates, the award-winning producer and composer of numerous film, television, and video game scores. In fact, the initial collaboration with Bates, the moody, haunting mid-tempo winner "I Would Die For You" ended up both on the "John Wick: Chapter 4" soundtrack and as the last cut on "Godmode".

IN THIS MOMENT, a touring juggernaut who've slayed stages worldwide at Ozzfest, Warped Tour, Download, Knotfest and Rocklahoma, put out "Mother" in 2020, during the pandemic, giving fans something to hold on in during that bleak time, and earning "The In-Between" the band's first Grammy nod. It was 2021 when Howorth and Brink first wrote with Bates on "I Would Die For You". Following that collaboration, the duo were writing organically, for pleasure, not focused on the next album. As the pandemic waxed and waned, Howorth learned programming, and created music around synthwave sounds, which Brink leaned into. Her lyrical ideas arose both from soul-searching and "humanity and so much crisis and so many heart-wrenching things in the world. That negativity and darkness is how songs like 'The Purge' came about," Brink explains.

The end result is that when IN THIS MOMENT went into the studio in January 2023, the easy flow had allowed them to compile the most songs they'd ever written at one time, songs the entire band loved. Longtime producer Kevin Churko helped shape ITM's sound starting in 2008, but for "Godmode", his son, Kane Churko, was at the helm.

"Kane's got all the strengths that his father taught him —everything, all the bells and whistles, but he's got some new tricks because he's a younger generation, he's hungry," says Brink.

Kane was the perfect match for IN THIS MOMENT's inspired songs.

"During the pandemic, just writing versus writing with a pressure that music has to be for an album, allowed us the freedom to make the record we made," says Howorth. "Godmode"'s songs gained even more strength in the studio, with Kane shaking up the band's usual m.o. even further.

"Having some songs by Tyler influenced us as well," Brink��explains. "It was scary for the band, but it ended up flowing just so beautifully. We felt very experimental."

That flow gave the album its name and theme. "Godmode" isn't religious, rather it's an expression for a triumphant flow state where all comes together seamlessly, coalescing into an ultimate form. As Brink sings in "Godmode", "You got me feeling so high / You lift me off of my feet yeah / You got me feeling like, feeling like / I'm in Godmode." In video games — Howorth plays the game "Destiny" — "God mode" also refers to a code that makes a player invincible.

"There's a spontaneity in this album that you can hear. It's a little more visceral. And that we're not with Kevin, who has done all our albums except for our very first, fans will hear those differences too, which is really cool and exciting for us," Howorth says.

"We had all this built-up energy from the last three years, we felt angst, we felt we had a lot to release," furthers Brink. "And we were letting it loose organically, while also playing with different time signatures and interesting things like that." "We use an 8-string on the album, which we haven't done before," Howorth says. "We did some different tunings, and it can definitely be freeing from guitar standpoint, the way we did things this time. Working with Kane was different and more off the cuff, being in the studio, getting creative and just trying a bunch of different stuff on every song. It was a really good experience."

As fans of Brink's lyrics know, life in and around IN THIS MOMENT hasn't always been easy. As Brink recalls, "When I met Chris, I was just a starry-eyed girl with huge dreams. And he was in a PANTERA-like metal band!" She told Howorth she wanted a heavy lineup that could sell platinum and win Grammys. The band had an early manager who told them it would never happen. But his dismissiveness only fueled IN THIS MOMENT's fire, energy and fight. "We're just relentless," says Brink. "Anything's possible if you really put your mind and energy into it."

For "Godmode", that energy also went into the "The Purge" video, where director Noen brought his artistry and next-level talent to Brink's storyboard ideas. The larger-than-life video themes and sets have been translated into IN THIS MOMENT's live stage show, literally. And summer 2023 saw the band on its first arena co-headlining tour with full pyrotechnics.

"Our whole lives we've talked about being in an arena and having fire and a full show," Brink says. "And now we're doing it and it's just so beautiful."

IN THIS MOMENT certainly have nothing to prove, the lineup's authority assured live on record and onscreen. Yet, "Godmode"'s energy and scope is visceral.

"With our new ideas and excitement and Kane's energy of wanting to prove himself to everybody, we were able to show that we're heavy and just as impactful as every other new band coming out right now," says Howorth. "We can punch you right in the face, that energy is in there big, time. I think our fans are really gonna like this album, because it's taken us back a little bit where it began, but it's also more instinctive, and heavier than anything we've done a long time," concludes Howorth.

Brink, a private person, nonetheless gives and takes much strength from ITM's millions of fans. The healing is on both sides.

"It's amazing if my songs help people feel empowered. When humans share painful things that we went through and how we heal from it, we can help each other and pass that energy on," she says. "Honestly, the most beautiful thing about being in a band is being able to have that connection with strangers who become kindred spirits. Sure, I have urges to wear 'masks' and hide from everything and wear makeup, but I like to share and be honest and vulnerable. The sky's the limit," Brink concludes. "You just have to keep dreaming, keep expanding, keep pushing yourself to that next level. I feel like something is shifting right now in the band; this is such a special moment for us with 'Godmode'."

Voice Actor!Kim Dokja. 

Kim Dokja is not a well known voice actor. The only reason why he voiced acted was that he needed money to save himself from starvation after quitting Minosoft. It didn’t pay well but it will suffice.

And he had fun, surprisingly. He gets to voice characters that give the stories life. He loves it but he simply wishes they could pay him higher. After years of voice acting he was able to voice in most of the games/ animes there are… but the thing is he was never the main character. He would either be an NPC or the brother of the main protagonist sometimes he would be a character that dies in a few episodes. Not an extra but not worth remembering. And for Kim Dokja it was fine because in his head all characters are essential to the stories and being a part of it matters to him. Not fame or money just being able to be them for a quick second matters.

There is only one voice that could make the Yoo Joonghyuk melt. 

Yoo Joonghyuk has been listening to one voice but in a different character. He doesn’t know why it just lurked him in. From the waiver of his voice whenever there is an emotional scene or to the way his voice dimmed when he finally knows it's his ending. It just sends Yoo Joonghyuk shivers down his spine. He wondered why the person behind such a melodic voice didn’t get any protagonist part. It is really hard to look into the life of the voice actor. 

The guy’s name is Kim Dokja, known for his variety of voicebanks. He doesn’t have any socials nor any face reveals. He’s just there and yet the voice he uses to create characters is so bizarre and so complex. Like he knew how crucial such a character is to the story. 

Over time, Yoo Joonghyuk fell in love with the voice his face he couldn’t see.  And though he could not meet him in person he was forever grateful for the man whose voice he loves.

He is contented.

Han Sooyoung invited Yoo Joonghyuk to an ani/game convention. Since he didn’t do anything he said yes, he needed to look for some gift for Mia anyway and lately Mia was into princely type ladies. 

Han Sooyoung mentioned that she was bringing another friend who is a voice actor and didn’t interact with people for a month and she’s forcing him out. Yoo Joonghyuk shrugged, he didn’t care. 

“This stupid squid is so late as always! He is pissing me off I will literally shove a tomato in his mouth I swear to God,” she grumbled, checking for her phone once again.

Yoo Joonghyuk leaned on the wall, as they wait for her friend. 

“FuCK! there he is! YAH! Kim Dokja YOU BASTARD” When Han Sooyoung spotted her friend, she yelled at the man who was running towards their bubble. Yoo Joonghyuk blinked, he stood rigid. 

Kim Dokja? Oh, no no that’s simply coincidence.

There’s no way Han Sooyoung is friends with Kim Dokja ( his favorite va, the person whom he would be willing to way dirt. ) 

When Han Sooyoung’s friend finally arrived, he was wheezing and sweating after running. He wiped the sweat that was falling on his neck.

He looked at Han Sooyoung with an irritating look then at Yoo Joonghyuk, he stared for awhile and blinked owlishly, he tilted his head a bit and smiled.   

“Hi! I’m Kim Dokja. I hope I didn’t make you wait. You must be Yoo Joonghyuk!” 

Ah, there it is. 

Yoo Joonghyuk stumbled, and his knees immediately weaken.

No fucking way is this the voice ( man??) of his dreams! He was literally thinking of him ( his voice) every night. But alas he is really real and really pretty. And Yoo Joonghyuk can’t wait to hear him scre— 

He cleared his throat,

“It’s nice to meet you”

when he spoke his voice changed pitched and cracked. Han Sooyoung laughed loudly, Yoo Joonghyuk can’t help but blush in embarrassment, he wanted to strangle this witch. 

when he heard a cute giggle, stopped glaring, and looked at Kim Dokja.

Shit, He fell in love once again and this time it’s the man who made him go weak with his voice ( but he doesn’t need to know that yet—)

Hello Melie! I'm coming here with an ✨ album recommendation ✨

In case you want something new! and fresh! - Les Forces Contraires by Terrenoire. They're an indie-pop French duo (they're brothers!), and have this super cosy, melodic vibe that I think you might enjoy ☺️

Okay, you were absolutely right about me probably liking these guys! The first song his me like an absolute gutter punch. I’m not entirely sure why, but it managed to hit home. It’s very simplistically poetic as well! I think the best way to describe it would be looking at your kid self and wondering when and where everything changed. So, I’d definitely say 60 falaises is a stand out so far.

Forever now thinking about the line “J'ai peur comme toi mais j't'aime plus que tout” in je veux un courage, they fucking ATE with that. Gives off the vibe of a villain finding sanctuary within a s/o; overall bop.

Misére is also damn good, (what a surprise; I’m getting attached to all the sad ones!), like the overall beat is awesome. Tbh I’m imagining Odysseus and his soldiers on the way home from Troy for some reason? I think it may be because the Thunder Saga came out for Epic yesterday though, lol.

The entirety of se revoir is just real tbh 😭; “J'veux bien qu'on se revoie, mais j'ose pas te le dire” and “J'ai peur de mes sentiments” are just. Yeah. Real.

Les météores is so softly beautiful. I love how, throughout the album so far, there’s a constant theme of fire and light. “J'ai pas de mots, non, si; je t'aime, on fera de ces moments un peu d'or pur” is so sweet. I also love the dichotomy in this; meteors destroy what and where they land (I mean, hey, look at the dinosaurs), but can help change the environment for better and allow for new life. This one just feels very warm to me, like the sun on your face when you were younger.

Le temps de revenir à la vie may or may not have got a tear or two out of me. Very much so ‘life is flashing before my eyes and I have to admit, I think I’m at peace with this. But then there’s you’. I love the ending line of “La mort, la mer, l'amour, la lumière”. Death, the sea, love, light. What a thing to live for.

Jusqu'à mon dernier souffle. That hurt. All I need to say there.

Ca va aller also got me in my chest. Love how the ending half was phrased as more of a conversation rather than lines of lyrics. Felt like I was being given a hug and told to hold on a little longer; it was really sweet!

Other issue in VA is that they use a voice that doesn't fit the character. I don't mean "Oh the OG japanese actor has a really dark melodic voice and the Eng VA is more of a smokey voice." More like having a very strong voice in Jap vs squawky voice in Eng. It's just so unpleasant, and I don't understand why they'd fuck around that hard with the voices. It does't have to be 1:1, but at least keep in the same ballpark.

I HATE that shite!

Oh my God, and it really does reek of a voice-director thinking that their idea of the story is more important than the source material itself.

Because, yeah, even if you want to make adjustments here and there, you should stay in the same range as the original material.

Random things: 2! Voices Edition!

Overall they vaguely match the in-game voice but! From deepest to highest pitch:

Sky: deep and rich. Melodic and rumbly like the begining of a thunderstorm.

Ordon: low and even tone. A slight twang to his words, but overall rather smooth sounding. Can get growly in certain moods.

Smith: variable, but with a deep base tone, with a slight mouse-squeak feel that seems contradictory but it's not. Berry is bouncier, Viola is more monotone, Clover is more clipped, and Indigo is growly.

Hero: rather sharp voice, very clear sounding, very warm tone. Honestly? Like. Super average in terms of depth. (Less Eren Yaeger more Yukine Noragami from that va)

Hope: just. Such a Smirky air, but it's relatively gentle. Very exaggerated and expressive. They have a slight accent with a bit of a nes beep vibe to it. Honestly just a bit lowkey Vocaloid quality.

Wind: a bit like a laughing seagull but deepen it. Sounds like he should be loud but isn't actually loud at all.

Rinku: everything is spoken almost like a hum, gentle and quiet in a too-polite way. Has a touch of a gravely undertone. Naturally deeper voice that is actively changed to a higher pitch. (If I went with her natural voice I'd say she'd be between Ordon & Smith on the scale)

Bean: light almost airy voice, bubbly. But when serious, it deepens and gets harsher sounding. (That would probably be between Hero & Hope)

Wild: very soft, like how you speak when you're watching wildlife and hoping not to startle. Still firm. Slightly stop and go.

Forest: a little heavy on the lit up in his words, but commanding and sure. Very monotone at times.

Engineer: The highest pitched of them all. Just a bit nasaly. I'm sorry but he sounds lowkey like Timmy Turner but a bit older and softer. And idk how else to describe it.
