#melo just retire at this point
female-buckets · 2 years
Note
WOW!! Super triggered response there. Okaaay, Dee doesn't have to run everything by Sue. She independently makes her own decisions- right. Even tho by her own admission she talks to Sue every day and probably asks her input, and probably DOES give it weight, and probably DOES want to get one more ring than her. She's a pretty competitive person, right? Whatever. She still has no business being on the '24 roster. None. Just like Lebron doesn't. Just like Melo doesn't. Just like Carli Lloyd shouldn't have gone to last Olympics, just like Pinoe will get flak for going to the upcoming WC. It's a rare, unique athlete that can maintain that form for 20+ years. They have plenty of players who can show the youngins the ropes. She should gracefully bow out. And you're absolutely right- male players don't ever get saddled with the same parenting stresses that female athletes do- in any kind of profession really. It's not fair, and the narrative around it should change. But the point remains- her kids are little- don't you want to be as present as you can be? It's not like she's 9 years into her career- she's almost 20. JJ Watt just retired very early from the NFL to be a full time dad to his newborn- it matters that they're around. It's clear you're not a parent. The early years go quick, and you can't get them back. This seems to me like a situation where she's afraid to retire bc of what's on the other side. Whatever- we can agree to disagree. This clearly is a hill you're willing to die on! Diana Taurasi forever!!!
You're clearly triggered that Cheryl Reeve invited DT to a team USA minicamp because you're insecure about Sue's GOAT status. But that's not how Sue, DT, or the USA basketball committee feel about the sport.
DT and Sue are friends. They text each other every day to make fart jokes and dingleberry jokes. Their friendship is toilet humor, alcohol, and UConn. It's a great friendship and they have a lot of fun with it. But they're not married to each other and they're not each others' agents. Their lives don't revolve around each other. They're just good friends.
DT said she consults her family and her agent about her decision to play each year. She's also talked about how she wants her kids to remember seeing her play. That's a sentiment a lot of other moms in the league express as well. DT's kids are young but they spend the entire summer at the arena. She's really only separated from them during away games.

Wimbledon MD F: Harri Heliovaara/Henry Patten def. Max Purcell/Jordan Thompson [15] 6-7(7), 7-6(8), 7-6(9) Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 BBC iPlayer
While the margin appeared thin between them, Heliopatten managed to make the most out of the tie-breaker even if they won 10 points lesser than the Australian pair (116 to 126). Through some pacing and anticipation, they turned the tables around several times in the match, saving 3 match points while utilizing the open court well to construct and finish their points. Even though the 15th seeds won twice more return winners than Heliopatten (8 to 4), being balanced between the baseline and the net also became crucial for either of them to stand out. As such, even though Thomcell had 3 break points (1 was the second-set match point), Heliopatten was able to save them, thus the non-conversion and everything went back to the tie-breakers.
Interestingly, Thomcell appeared more solid on serve. Firing 15 aces than Heliopatten's 2, the Australian 15th seed landed 68% of their first serves and had an outstanding first serve winning percentage at 82%, 5% more than Heliopatten, which helped them to avoid trouble at times. In contrast, Heliopatten's second serves appeared more vulnerable even though they double-faulted just twice (than Thomcell's 3) as they only won 60% of their second serve points, 14% lesser than Thomcell, but their point construction on return also made up for it.
This marked Heliopatten's fifth overall year-to-date title, but they won it across Tours since they first paired up in April: 2 Challenger-level titles in Madrid (100) and Turin (175), 2 ATP 250-level titles in Marrakech and Lyon, and Wimbledon was their maiden Grand Slam title as a pair, becoming the first pair to do so this year after Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo in 2017 and Kevin Krawietz/Andreas Mies in 2019. To add, H. Patten soared to the doubles Top 20 next week to be the new UK doubles #2, coming a long way from interning as an IBM statistician when he studied in the University of North Carolina-Ashville, while H. Heliovaara also worked in the airport after pursuing his studies after his retirement in 2013 before he picked up the racquet again in 2017 and returned to the game, mostly doubles due to his Ankylosing spondylitis diagnosis. Meanwhile, M. Purcell won in 2022 (with Matthew Ebden) in a best-of-five format, where this year he became the runner-up in a full best-of-three format. Breathtaking.

The Bias List
@avatarfantxsy @quyennie @despairandjo I decided to just list them. I need to make a separate post for bands tho. (that was a lie almost as fat as me) So in this bias list I will only list groups that I listen to. The last bias list I posted there were a lot of groups that I hadn’t listened to yet so this one will just be the groups I know of. I have a few to add, some I have taken off and I will have a section at the end for potential biases. Also some groups have 2-6 biases. For example I literally can’t choose with UP10TION. And sometimes I go back and forth and members in groups so often I’ve somehow tricked my brain into thinking I have more than one. If it’s confusing I promise the first member of each group on the list is definitely a locked bias. And another thing, if the member is specifically on my list of moms or daddies they wont be on here, unless they both

The all-time starting five for every NBA Western Conference team
What if the Splash Bros. had Wilt Chamberlain playing center? How many titles would the Lakers have won if Magic Johnson was running the break with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal? Imagine Hakeem Olajuwon and James Hardenteaming up in Clutch City.
We asked our NBA writers to come up with an all-time starting five for every current NBA franchise, along with one additional blast from the past. Only a player's contributions during his time with that franchise were considered. (So, no, LeBron James doesn't crack the Lakers' all-time list ... yet.)
In this era of "positionless" basketball, traditional positions don't matter quite as much as they used to, so we allowed some flexibility in choosing a lineup -- but you won't see teams with four centers or three point guards. The idea was to dive into each team's history and create a group that could at least potentially share the floor together.
We rolled out the Eastern Conference on Wednesday. Here is the Western Conference:
Dallas Mavericks
G: Derek Harper G: Jason Terry G: Rolando Blackman F: Mark Aguirre F: Dirk Nowitzki
Terry joins Nowitzki as the only players on both of the Mavs' Finals teams and was the second-leading scorer on both squads. There's a reason Harper and Blackman, the backcourt for some good teams that just couldn't get past the Showtime Lakers, have their numbers in the American Airlines Center rafters. Aguirre's jersey probably won't ever be retired in Dallas because of his bitter departure, but you can't dismiss his 24.6 points per game in eight seasons with the Mavs.
The toughest cuts: Michael Finley and Jason Kidd, one of whom helped a young German kid find his way in the NBA and the other who helped Nowitzki finally deliver a title to Dallas.
-- Tim MacMahon
Denver Nuggets
G: Fat Lever G: David Thompson F: Alex English F: Carmelo Anthony C: Dikembe Mutombo
You're probably asking yourself the same question I debated for roughly 48 hours: Wait, no Nikola Jokic? There's a good chance Jokic eventually becomes the greatest player in franchise history, but he's just 25 years old.
EDITOR'S PICKS
Which active players are headed to the Hall? Our choice for every NBA team
Game Changers: Ranking the 100 most influential NBA players ever
Mutombo, on the other hand, is a Hall of Famer and produced probably the most iconic image in franchise history, celebrating the historic upset of the top-seeded Seattle SuperSonics in the 1994 playoffs. Mutombo is the defensive anchor behind a pure scoring lineup that could outgun just about anybody.
English, Anthony and Thompson all averaged better than 20 points a game for their careers, but at their peaks were pushing 30 PPG. Add in a floor general like Lafayette "Fat" Lever to pull the strings, and it could work. Between Fat, Melo and Dikembe, the Nuggets can outname just about anybody, too.
-- Royce Young
Golden State Warriors
G: Stephen Curry G: Klay Thompson F: Kevin Durant F: Draymond Green C: Wilt Chamberlain
Adding Chamberlain to the Durant-era Warriors teams that won back-to-back titles would just be unfair. Can you even imagine how dominant that team would be? Curry, Thompson, Durant and Green already have won titles together -- and now they have one of the greatest big men of all time to drop the ball to down low? Unbelievable. The defense is great, the offense is otherworldly.
It's tough leaving Hall of Famers Rick Barry and Chris Mullin out of this group, but who would come out? Curry and Thompson form the best shooting backcourt of all time. Durant is one of the best players of his generation and Green provides the defensive intensity and glue that has propelled them for years -- plus those four already have played together. There is no stopping this team. A juggernaut for the ages.
-- Nick Friedell
The best of Steph Curry's handles
Does Steph Curry have the best handles in the NBA? Take a look at some of his best moves and decide for yourself.
Houston Rockets
G: James Harden G: Calvin Murphy F: Tracy McGrady F: Rudy Tomjanovich C: Hakeem Olajuwon
Apologies to Hall of Fame big men Elvin Hayes, Moses Malone and Yao Ming, but it's hard to get one center in the Houston lineup these days. Of course, there's no debate about the candidacy of Olajuwon, who remains the best player in franchise history, even after Harden's run of historic offensive production.
Harden is 22 points away from passing Murphy for second on the Rockets' career scoring list, so for now the flamboyant, 5-foot-9 Murphy continues to be the only player who ranks among the franchise's top two in points and assists.
Rudy T is best remembered as the Clutch City-era coach and for the brutal punch that interrupted his playing career, but he earned his spot here with five All-Star appearances during a career spent entirely in a Rockets uniform.
-- MacMahon
Flashback: The best of Harden's 2017-18 MVP season
Take a look back at James Harden's dynamic MVP season in 2017-18.
LA Clippers
G: Chris Paul F: Kawhi Leonard F: Blake Griffin F: Elton Brand C: Bob McAdoo
Paul and Griffin authored the greatest and most exciting era in Clippers basketball with Lob City. Paul spent six seasons with the Clips, was first-team All-NBA three times and led the league in assists twice during that span. Griffin was Rookie of the Year, a five-time All-Star and the exciting, above-the-rim player the franchise sorely needed.
The 74 Greatest in NBA History
In the midst of the NBA's 74th season -- currently on hold -- ESPN's experts ranked the 74 greatest in five different categories:
• Individual seasons • Jerseys | Bottom 10 • Sneakers | Bottom 10 • Transactions (since The Decision) • Players: 74-41 | 40-11 | 10-1
Brand spent seven seasons with the team and made both of his All-Star appearances as a Clipper. McAdoo started his Hall of Fame career when the franchise was in Buffalo, where he led the league in scoring three straight seasons and was MVP in 1974-75.
Leonard is just 51 games into his Clippers tenure, but his elite production already puts him on this roster. Averaging 26.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists, a healthy Leonard can further validate this choice if he can get the Clippers to the conference finals for the first time.
-- Ohm Youngmisuk
Kawhi's ridiculous moments in his first season in LA
Kawhi Leonard has been everything the LA Clippers thought he'd be when he arrived. Check out some of his season's best highlights.
Los Angeles Lakers
G: Magic Johnson G: Jerry West G: Kobe Bryant F: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar C: Shaquille O'Neal
Four of these picks were no-brainers. Johnson (fifth in career assists) teamed up with Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's career scoring leader, to win five championships. Bryant (fourth all time in scoring) paired with O'Neal (eighth in scoring) to win three.
The fifth pick was harder. Is it Elgin Baylor, the greatest small forward in franchise history? Or how about LeBron James, the greatest small forward in NBA history? How about James Worthy, who teamed up with Magic and Kareem and won a Finals MVP?
Ultimately, the pick is West. Baylor never won a ring. James hasn't been a Laker long enough. Worthy would have to play the 4 and you already have Shaq and the Captain on the blocks. The Logo brings shooting and toughness and leadership, and he is extremely important to the franchise as a whole for his post-playing days in the front office.
-- Dave McMenamin
Memphis Grizzlies
G: Mike Conley G: Tony Allen F: Shareef Abdur-Rahim F: Zach Randolph C: Marc Gasol
The question with the Grizzlies: Who should be the final player to fill out a lineup that features the Grit 'n' Grind mainstays called the Core Four? (I'd make a joke about Chandler Parsons' max contract, but I want to be welcomed back to Memphis.)
Based purely on merit, Pau Gasol would be the pick, but he doesn't fit alongside his brother Marc at center and Randolph at power forward. So we will go with Abdur-Rahim, who was a really good player for some really bad teams in Vancouver, averaging 20.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game over five seasons in which the Grizzlies went a combined 86-292.
-- MacMahon
Minnesota Timberwolves
G: Ricky Rubio G: Sam Cassell F: Kevin Garnett F: Kevin Love C: Karl-Anthony Towns
The three best players in franchise history just all happen to be big men: Garnett, Love and Towns. Garnett is the franchise leader in points, rebounds, steals, assists and blocks; he's the only player in NBA history to lead a team in all five categories. Towns (22.7 points, 11.8 rebounds in 358 games) and Love (19.2 points, 12.2 rebounds in 364 games) each put up monster numbers, even though playoff success never came.
'The Last Dance' on ESPN
The 10-part Michael Jordan documentary "The Last Dance" is available on the ESPN App.
• Everything you need to know • Lowe: How Pippen lifted MJ's Bulls • Shelburne: Kobe and MJ's friendship • How to replay the series
(Side note: Towns is only 14 3-pointers away from becoming the franchise's all-time leader. Seriously.)
Rubio trails only Garnett in franchise history in steals and assists. Since Wally Szczerbiak and Andrew Wiggins were primarily listed as small forwards, the other guard spot goes to Cassell, who played only two years in Minnesota but had a career year and was a second-team All-NBA selection in 2003-04.
-- Andrew Lopez
New Orleans Pelicans
G: Chris Paul G: Jrue Holiday F: Jamal Mashburn F: David West C: Anthony Davis
(Just a reminder: The Pelicans' franchise history starts in 2002, when the team moved from Charlotte to New Orleans. Anything before that belongs to Charlotte, even though it's the same franchise. Got it? Cool, let's move on.)
First, the locks: Davis, Paul, Holiday and West. Now once you get to the wing ... oof. This spot came down to four players -- Mashburn, Peja Stojakovic, Eric Gordon and, yes, Brandon Ingram.
Mashburn, in the franchise's first season in New Orleans in 2002-03, made the All-Star team and was a third-team All-NBA selection. The Pelicans didn't get another All-Star selection from a wing player until this year, when Ingram made it. But with only 56 games under his belt, Ingram falls off this list. Gordon's time in New Orleans always seemed underwhelming. Stojakovic was a key cog on the 2007-08 team that won a franchise-best 56 games, but he struggled with injuries.
Mashburn was limited to 101 games for New Orleans, but his impact in Year 1 was unmistakable and he still sits second on the team's career scoring average list (21.5), behind only Davis.
-- Lopez
Oklahoma City Thunder
G: Russell Westbrook G: James Harden F: Kevin Durant F: Paul George F: Serge Ibaka
There's an irony to the Thunder's all-time starting five, because it features their best sixth man. The baggage of Harden's role looms large, whether he wanted to come off the bench, whether starting impacted his contract negotiations and ultimately facilitated the breakup of one of the greatest organically built superteams ever. That's a lot to unpack.
Hindsight and what-ifs aside, the Thunder's all-time group can stand with almost any in NBA history, and most certainly is among the most stout in the past 20 years. The Thunder have been around for just 12 years and boast a remarkable cupboard of talent: three MVPs (Durant, Westbrook, Harden) and piles of All-NBA and All-Star nods. Maybe one of the best examples of how deep they are is in showcasing who didn't make the cut: Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. Not a bad bench.
-- Young
Phoenix Suns
G: Steve Nash G: Kevin Johnson F: Walter Davis F: Charles Barkley C: Amar'e Stoudemire
No Shawn Marion? No Paul Westphal? No Alvan Adams? No Larry Nance? No Jason Kidd? You can make a solid starting five from the next group of Phoenix legends.
NBA season suspended
The NBA announced that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2019-20 season would be suspended effective March 12.
Latest news • Sources: NBA return gaining momentum • Love: Being back at facility 'uplifting' • NBA teams get OK to test players, staff • Full list of cancellations, suspensions
The franchise's two MVP winners, Nash and Barkley, were locks. Westphal split time as a point guard and shooting guard during his six seasons, but we give the nod at the other guard spot to Johnson, who spent 12 years in Phoenix, and had three consecutive 20-point, 10-assist seasons and five All-NBA nods.
Davis vs. Marion was a tough battle. Both made a pair of All-NBA teams (two second-teams for Davis compared to two third-teams for Marion), but Davis gets the edge as the franchise's leading scorer. At center, Stoudemire stands supreme as his four All-NBA honors best Adams' longevity.
-- Lopez
Portland Trail Blazers
G: Damian Lillard G: Clyde Drexler G: Brandon Roy F: LaMarcus Aldridge C: Bill Walton
As with any conversation about Blazers history, their starting five comes with plenty of introspective sighing and deep what-iffing. Injuries to Walton and Roy abbreviated what would've been legendary Portland careers. But at their best versions, Walton was a transcendent big man with unique skills, and Roy was a gifted scorer with a knack for the moment.
Drexler is a Hall of Famer who led Portland to its best sustained run of success in franchise history. Aldridge is one of the dominant scoring big men of his era, and Lillard will likely go down as the franchise's all-time best. The Blazers are haunted by history and a compulsion to live in the anguish of what could've been, but there is also a beauty to their all-time five. It represents who they are, and forever, what they might've been.
-- Young
Lillard's top 10 deepest 3s of the 2019-20 season
Logo Lillard can't be stopped beyond the arc; check out Damian Lillard's deepest 3-pointers this season.
Sacramento Kings
G: Oscar Robertson G: Tiny Archibald F: Peja Stojakovic F: Chris Webber C: Jerry Lucas
A Hall of Fame backcourt of Robertson and Archibald knocks Kings great Mitch Richmond out of one of the two guard spots. Lucas, another Hall of Famer, averaged 19.6 points and 19.1 rebounds in six seasons with the Cincinnati Royals. He gets the center position.
For the forwards, we look at two Kings from the early 2000s, when Sacramento was a perennial playoff team. Stojakovic is still the franchise's leader in 3-pointers made, and Webber averaged 23.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in 377 career games in Sacramento.
It feels weird not to have DeMarcus Cousins on the all-time Kings squad, but when you look back at the franchise's history -- which dates back to the Rochester Royals and their first year in the NBA in 1949 -- it becomes clearer why he doesn't make the cut.
-- Lopez
San Antonio Spurs
G: Tony Parker G: Manu Ginobili F: George Gervin F: Tim Duncan C: David Robinson
ESPN Daily podcast
Monday through Friday, host Mina Kimes brings you an inside look at the most interesting stories at ESPN, as told by the top reporters and insiders on the planet. Listen
It took about as long as the average Gregg Popovich sideline interview to come up with this squad. These were all easy decisions, considering each player's combination of greatness and longevity with the Spurs. (Kawhi Leonard would have been in strong consideration if not for the lack of the latter.)
Duncan and Robinson are on the short list of MVPs who played their entire careers for one franchise. Ginobili and Parker were essential parts of a dynasty. Gervin was a must-see superstar whose presence made sure that pro basketball stuck in small-market San Antonio.
-- MacMahon
Seattle SuperSonics
G: Gary Payton G: Gus Williams F: Detlef Schrempf F: Shawn Kemp C: Jack Sikma
Payton, Kemp and Sikma, the three players to make at least five All-Star appearances in Sonics uniforms, are the three certain selections here. At the other guard spot, there are strong cases for Fred Brown (who's second in career scoring) and Ray Allen (a four-time All-Star in Seattle), but Gus Williams' key role in the Sonics' 1979 championship and pair of All-NBA picks give him the nod.
Spencer Haywood reached greater heights and Rashard Lewis had more longevity, but with the last spot I'm going with Schrempf, whose versatile and efficient game was ahead of its time in the 1990s.
-- Kevin Pelton
Utah Jazz
G: John Stockton G: Pete Maravich F: Adrian Dantley F: Karl Malone C: Rudy Gobert
The Jazz's arena is located at the intersection of Stockton and Malone, with statues of the legends prominently featured out front, so we figured those guys should make the cut. Dantley was a historically elite scorer for the Jazz, averaging 29.6 points on 56.2% shooting and winning a pair of NBA scoring titles during his seven-season tenure in Utah.
Gobert gets the nod over fellow dominant defensive anchor Mark Eaton because he's a far superior offensive player and rebounder. It was difficult not to include Darrell Griffith, aka "Dr. Dunkenstein," but Pistol Pete was too productive (25.7 points and 5.7 assists per game) with the New Orleans Jazz to be left out. The table of João I & Queen Philippa Part 1: Palaces & Castles
Tumblr media
The monarchs, in their itinerary, resorted to various facilities to accommodate themselves. First of all to military spaces of castles, sometimes associated with residences of the military power. D. João I would have taken great advantage of them when he circulated through northern lands of Entre Douro and Minho or inland of Trás-os-Montes and Beiras.
At the same time they used religious spaces, in particular monasteries, especially in areas where other possibilities of installation were not present. King João and Queen Philippa stood, in the north, in:
Monastery of Grijó:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Paço de Sousa:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Santo Tirso:
Tumblr media
In the south center they stood in:
The Convent of Santa Maria de Semide:
Tumblr media
The Monastery of Alcobaça:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Almoster:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Odivelas:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Alenquer:
Tumblr media
Monastery of Batalha:
Tumblr media
And they did not even hesitate to settle in private residences of ecclesiastical or lay lords, as did D. João I & Queen Philippa when he retired to the Archbishop João Esteves de Azambuja's palace, on the outskirts of Santarém, or on the farm of his ward, Martim Afonso de Melo, in Água de Peixes, Alvito. But in certain cities and towns, framed in more urbanized or country settings, the rulers also had their own houses. They were generally located in more strategic places and intensely traversed by the royal court or long stay. Many would be only modest and unimposing buildings, which were guarded by their own officer, the pacemaker, just standing out a few.
In Coimbra, Santarém and Lisbon, the monarch of residence had its lofts, topped by strategic defensive and walled areas, which were, for that reason, also of uncomfortable accessibility.
Thus in Coimbra, the King and Queen could sometimes have preferred:
 Santa Clara:
Tumblr media
But the region offered him many other possibilities, from soon in Tentúgal, where the infante D. Pedro, Duke of Coimbra, renewed the royal palace with his chapel, and there often stood D. João I and D. Philippa.
Tumblr media
Further south, all along the Extremadura coast, the king had castles and palaces, especially those the Queen owned on her lands. The King of Avis will thus have occupied the
 Castles of Leiria:
Tumblr media
Castle of Alenquer:
Tumblr media
Castle of Torres Vedras:
Tumblr media
Castle of Óbidos:
Tumblr media
However, it left the most remarkable mark in Leiria, where it had a four-story palace erected flanked by two towers, served by the gothic church of Nossa Senhora da Pena.
Tumblr media
On the upper floor, with a balcony of pointed arches overlooking the city, there were three rooms and three chambers, with kitchens, storage buildings and latrines spreading over the other floors. This castellated residence already offered a certain amount of comfort, with several points of light, wooden ceilings, floors decorated with polychrome ceramic and several compartments with fireplaces, indicated by several small chimneys.
More rooms still had Arruda, Aldeia Galega or Atouguia. Here were the well-known:
Paços da Serra d'El-Rei:
Tumblr media
with several buildings and fenced grounds, where even exotic animals such as swans were raised, which D. João I & Queen Philippa enjoyed in restful stays.
In Santarém,  there was a palace in Chão da Feira, on the most easily accessible street of Porta de Leiria, which D. João I must have enlarged, ordering the demolition of houses located on that street. But the Extremadura and Ribatejo lands were an excellent area game, in which the monarchs had many spaces, with rooms nearby, such as Valada, Muge or Salvaterra. And in the Tagus swamps, D. João I built, in the 1420  his favorite country residence, where he often retired in the last years of his life. In the estate known as Vala de Almeirim, large stands were then built with large rooms, chambers, balconies and gardens of many trees and orange trees. They even had their own chapel in honor of their venerated Saint Mary. Throughout the surrounding circuit were scattered single-storey houses and houses that could house the courtiers, as well as cultivated fields such as vineyards, orchards, gardens "with palm trees and other trees", along with a "savannah". In a country setting, it was assured, at the same time, the pleasure of living with nature, the joy of hunting and the delight of enjoying fresh vegetables and fruits.
In the great city of Lisbon, D. João I & Queen Philippa had the S. Jorge Castel: royal residence with a certain monumentality, in which the monarch also performed works of addition and improvement. Among the rooms, the main one, with an area of about 480m2, would be remarkable, also having several chambers and a royal chapel of invocation to S. Miguel. With several kitchens and a patio, the so-called "corral" of the palace, where several buildings were installed.
Tumblr media
In the surroundings of Lisbon, scattered throughout the countryside, offering calm and leisure, the King and Queen had:
Palace of Lumiar:
Tumblr media
Palace of Belas:
Tumblr media
However, it was essentially in the Sintra grounds that the monarch took refuge to escape the harshness of summer, to rest, and to hunt for hunting. For this reason, he added and improved these royal town halls, which in his time would have twenty-six compartments, divided between the ground floor and the first floor, with a tower and two kitchens, kitchens and chapel on a total surface. little less than 1000 m2, as the description of them by D. Duarte tells us in the Book of Councils. It comprised large rooms and several chambers, as well as smaller and more specialized interior spaces, including oratories, wardrobes, sachets, several houses for clerks, and private ones. It would therefore have the capacity to house the court of king and queen and even of the infants with their entourages. Hence the grandeur of its kitchens, equipped with various furnaces and ovens, served by two monumental conical chimneys, which exited the fumes. And the conduction of the waters, which flowed from the mountain to the interior, would greatly facilitate the tasks of meals and washing the utensils.
Tumblr media
Finally, in Alentejo lands, the king and queen of Avis could take shelter in:
Palace of Évora:
Tumblr media
Paços of Crato:
Tumblr media
Palace of Estremoz:
Tumblr media
Castle of Elvas:
Tumblr media
Castle of Beja:
Tumblr media
But precisely in Évora, the third capital city of the court, because the Fortified residence was of small dimensions, D. João I had, in the beginning of his reign, built some rooms in the monastery of San Francisco, which had two rooms, with trascamera and private, and also a ferragial surrounded with garden and Orange trees.

Anthony’s Stupid Daily Blog (184): Thu 15th Sep 2022
Tuned into last night's AEW Dynamite. The Jon Moxley vs Sammy Guevara match was good even if Tay Melo hit Moxley with one of the lamest low blows I've ever seen. Also Jericho vs Danielson 2 was fucking tremendous. Jericho reminds me a lot of AJ Styles in that there have been numerous points in both their careers where I've thought to myself that they've done all they need to do and it's time for them to retire and then they either start a new gimmick or get put with a new opponent who brings something different out of them and I realize they're still some of the best wrestlers walking the planet. Other than Sammy vs Mox and Jericho vs Danielson this was a very meh episode of Dynamite. I was hoping they'd be able to keep up the momentum they've had for the last few weeks and to be fair the audience did stay over 1 million for this episode but I'm not sure ho much longer this will last Looked after Luna today and I put together a little obstacle course for her. She had to run from the patio to the middle of the garden, kick a football into a little goal, bounce on a space-hopper to her slide and slide down it, then hop on a bunch of tiles I'd put down as stepping stones, then walk across three deckchairs, throw a little toy watering can into a bucket, go inside the house and crawl under the kitchen table then scooter to the stairs, climb them then crawl under the blanket on Mam's bed, then run to the sare room, jump off a stepladder onto the bed, then flush the toilet before finally climbing up the wooden stair into my room and ringing a little bell. It took a while to set up and complete but it was still easier than ordering my food yesterday at fucking Nando's. Hopefully doing stuff like this for Luna will make her look forward to our Thursday play days and hopefully she will annoy her parents by complaining that they never do fun stuff like her cool uncle Anthony does.
Before bed I re-watched the classic zombie film Night of the Living Dead So let's get all the plot holes, nitpicks and just plain stupid shit out of the way then I'll move on to heaping praise on the movie. At the start of the movie Johnny and Barbra lament the fact that they constantly have to make this long drive to place flowers on their father's grave in order to make their elderly mother happy. Why don't they just tell their mother they put flowers on their father's grave instead of actually doing it? Immediately after killing Johnny the zombie turns his attention on Barbara and chases her through the cemetery. Why doesn't the first zombie just stay behind and eat Johnny? That's like Wile E Coyote throwing away a gourmet dinner to keep chasing the Roadrunner. When the initial swarm of zombies starts to surround the house we see one zombie who for some reason is dressed like he's just been to toga party. I found it a little bit strange that after the truck explodes and the zombies begin feasting on the burnt corpses inside but instead of all of them just taking bites out of the corpses like a pack of lions each zombie takes a part and goes off to their own little place to eat. It's like they're flesh hungry monsters but they don't want to be greedy. Finally at the end of the film, zombie Karen comes up just as the zombies break into the farmhouse and tries to eat Ben. Did she actually eat her mother and father whole and then come up for more? Do zombies just keep eating even when they're not hungry? If yes then I have more in common with them than I thought.
So now that I've dealt with all the nitpicks let's get to celebrating this landmark movie for taking the zombie genre and horror genre in general in a completely different direction and influencing a generation of media that followed it. This film was the first of its kind and as such audiences back then would have been just as confused and terrified of this never before seen killing machine known as a zombie as Barbra is in this movie. The first zombie we see doesn't look particularly scary but I think that was the selling point at the time, that these monster could look just like you or me. It’s also quite novel to see zombies looking relatively fresh and newly reanimated, normally in zombie media we are used to seeing them covered in guts and brains, all decomposed and withered but in this film we join the action right at the start of the outbreak so the zombies have only recently turned making them appear less menacing but a more realistic threat. That's not to say that the make-up doesn't get stepped up later in the film as we see zombies that have been affected a little more by rigor-motis and are still baring the wounds from whatever it was that killed them. What is interesting is that in the years to come after this movie, your typical zombie was portrayed as being inept, having no sense of cunning and having no sense of pain, whereas here in the movie that kick-started it all the zombie blueprint is quite different. In this movie the zombies can run, use weapons, feel pain and even commit acts of vandalism It would appear that the undead creatures in this film are smarter than the average zombie. I would have loved to have been in a theatre when ths movie first premiered especially for two scenes. The first would be the moment where Ben shoots the zombie in the chest and it just staggers backwards, looks at its chest then returns to the house as this would have made the audience aware of exactly what kind of monster they were dealing with. The second would have been the moment in the basement where Duane waits for the corpses of Harry and Helen to reanimate. The moment when Helen in particular sits up still scares me a little bit to this day. Although a number of scenes in this film run a little too long the actors in the movie never lose enthusiasm and start phoning it in. Pretty much all of the performances in this film are consistently good. Duane Jones delivery is that of confidence and resourcefulness but there's still an underlying sense of panic and confusion which is perfect for this character. You get the feeling that Ben is normally really methodical and forward planning but now he's being forced to think on his feet. All the way through the movie it's like you can see the gears of Ben's brain moving and trying to plot out what their next movie should be. Likewise Judith O'Dea is consistently brilliant throughout. We only get to briefly see real emotion from her at the start, middle and end of the film and for the rest of the movie she is almost in a catatonic state. It is a little bit weird to have a lead character who is mute for most of the movie after giving a brief glimpse of her personality in the opening five minutes. I guess it's to sell to the audience just how traumatized she is by the death of her brother. I think a good movie should have an audience asking questions after they see it and one of the things I wonder about the most from this movie is what Barbra was like before the events of this film happened. Was she strong and confident or quiet and reserved (probably the latter since she shits herself after her brother utters the immortal line "They're coming to get you Barbra"), sadly we'll never know for sure because this outbreak was enough to change her for the rest of her life...which ended up being a few hours. My favourite Barbra moment is where sh'es wandering zombie like through the house and comes across a music box and looks into it deeply as the music is playing. It only last a few seconds (And gets cut waaay too early in my opinion ) but it reminds me of the dissolving tablet scene from Taxi Driver where you take a minute to really wonder what can be going through her head if anything. I also like the bit where she's staring at the radio as news reports of the zombies eating flesh comes in and we can see that the lights may be on but nobody's home. Something I do feel is lacking a bit in this film is the soundtrack. The only time when the music gets awesome and really starts to make you feel scared is after the truck explodes and we get that unsettling, murmuring noise as the zombies begin to feast. If there was more of this sort of gritty, sinister music accompanying more of the scenes it might fit better with the mood of utter terror and claustrophobia the film is trying to create. As it is the soundtrack isn’t anything special, just sort of generic horror movie fodder. It's really cool that they got to film in an actual house rather than on a set. Apparently Romero knew the owner of this house who was getting ready to demolish it and apparently said to him "Well, we can do that for you". I love the idea that the crew actually destroyed a real house in the creation of this movie (Although as a horror fan it would be nice to be able to visit the original house). As good as some film sets can be, for the most part you're constantly aware of the fact that just behind the camera is a missing wall and above it is a row of studio lights. With this movie you know that the place they're filming in really existed at one point. Also the knowledge that this was an actual house just adds to the sense of claustrophobia. One thing I really like about the film is that there's no real reason given for the outbreak. I know it's speculated that there's space radiation from a satellite that's responsible (which to be honest I think they should have left out of the movie entirely as this would have added to the sense of uncertainty) but this is never confirmed and this confusion helps us to empathize with what the characters are going through. Although I'm sure it was unintentional I like that the radio updates are a little bit muffled so you really have to pay attention to them. In my opinion I think that Romero should have written an entire script for the news anchor to read out and had it playing in the background throughout the movie (Except for the news-real footage of the town sheriff which are really good). Imagine if during the scene where Duane and Harry are bickering they were playing a newscast where the guy says that they suspect that the Venus probe might be the cause of the outbreak. Only the people who were really paying attention would have heard it and it would have warranted repeated visits to the cinema to make sure that you'd heard everything and to see if the characters missed any crucial information that could have saved their lives. I also commend Romero for really pulling no punches and going all out for this movie in terms of graphic content. This was a guy who wanted to make an impact and to get as many people talking about it as possible in the hope that it would lead to a full film-making career, which it did. The scene after the car explodes where the zombies move in to feast is by far the best scene and still unsettling to this day. One of the zombies is eating the dismembered hands while another tucks in to a still moving liver. Apparently people were physically sick during this scene and some left the theatre which I don't blame them for because up until this movie it was rare to see even a trickle of blood. The one thing Romero did apparently cut because even he thought it would be going to far was a scene where a zombified Harry Cooper kills and eats his daughter rather than the other way around. It would have been much more disturbing obviously but then we wouldn't have gotten that iconic shot of the daughter killing her mother with a shovel which has become perhaps the most famous and shocking scene from the movie so it looks like Romero was right to impose a little bit of self-censorship. I really can't praise the film enough sheer intensity, bravery, originality and sheer tenacity. It rarely gives you the opportunity to take a breather or relax as it has you transfixed and invested through it’s clever concept and talented cast. If you’re a fan of the Walking Dead or any other zombie related media this is the film you have to thank for that, it’s ingenious, it’s ahead of it’s time and it’s still scary as hell.

Calacus Weekly Hit & Miss – Thomas Bach & FC Barcelona
Every Monday we look at the best and worst communicators in the sports world from the previous week.
HIT – THOMAS BACH
The global pandemic has had a huge impact on sport, not least forcing sport from grassroots to global events to pause.
The Olympic Games in Tokyo was postponed by a year and there have been mixed reports about it going ahead later this year.
Senior Japanese government minister Tara Kono said at a recent press conference that “The Olympic Committee must be thinking about Plan B, Plan C. But the situation is not easy.
“We need to do the best we can to prepare for the Games at this moment, but it could go either way.”
At stake is billions in investment and the hopes and dreams of thousands of athletes.
And that’s the easily forgotten element of the uncertainty – the athletes whose entire lives have been dedicated to being at their peak for the Olympic Games, which are the pinnacle for many of their sporting disciplines.
Just as with political boycotts that marred the game in the early 1980s, for many athletes, this is their only chance to compete on the highest stage.
At the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board meeting last week, it was important to provide certainty and reassurance for those still adapting to be at their physical and competitive best should the Games go ahead in July.
IOC President Thomas Back cannot offer guarantees given the uncertainties of the pandemic but he reiterated his vow that the Games will go ahead as planned when speaking after the Executive Board meeting, focusing on the concerns of the main stakeholders, namely the athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and fans.
“We are fully concentrated on and committed to the successful and safe delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, starting on 23 July with the Olympic Games and 24 August with the Paralympic Games,” the IOC President said.
“Nobody at this moment can predict the health situation in 206 National Olympic Committees for the time of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, from late July until September of this year – not even the most prominent scientists in this area. This leads, you may say naturally, you can also say unfortunately, to much speculation.
“Some even make the proposal to postpone the Olympic Games in Tokyo to the year 2032. I want to say good luck, if you would have to discuss this with an athlete who is preparing for the Olympic Games in 2021.
“We want not to destroy any Olympic dream of any athlete. Our task is to organise Olympic Games, not to cancel Olympic Games...and that is why we will not add fuel to this speculation.
“We are working on how the Games will take place. The priority is always the same – safe and secure Games. Based on the vaccine, based on the counter measures, based on the experience of different sports events that have been taking place all over the world, it is clearly not irresponsible.
“We are in a position to offer the relevant counter measures. If we thought it was irresponsible, and if we thought the Games were not safe, we would not go for it. Principle number one is safe organisation.”
He underlined the importance of collaboration with all the federations responsible for the Olympic sports and NOCs have held consultation calls and that “all of them are fully united and committed; all 206 National Olympic Committees, all the International Federations and the athletes are standing behind these Olympic Games.
“We see the same commitment on the Japanese side with the Japanese government, the Organising Committee and the Japanese Olympic Committee,” he added.
In these uncertain times, Bach’s comments were as unequivocal as they could be – and while the speculation will continue, he certainly made his and the IOC’s position crystal clear.
The Tokyo Olympic Games are scheduled to open on July 23, with 11,000 athletes competing in 33 sports.
MISS – FC BARCELONA
It has been a year of upheaval for FC Barcelona.
Their position as one of the biggest clubs in the world endures, but they have been faced with a number of challenges over the past 12 months.
It started when talisman Lionel Messi declared that he wanted to leave Barca where he has spent his entire career, frustrated about the lack of a project to ensure the club can compete for La Liga and the Champions League consistently.
He eventually withdrew his threat to leave but his actions have since prompted the club President Josep Maria Bartomeu to resign.
Bartomeu’s reign has seen Barcelona go from a wealthy and competitive team to one with debts of around £720m and a £1billion wage bill – the largest in the world – which leaves them at risk of financial collapse.
The soap opera took another twist at the weekend with details of Messi’s contract being publicised by Spanish newspaper El Mundo, prompting threats of legal action.
At 33, Messi is in the twilight of his career and wants to win the top trophies again before he retires and is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs with only six months left on his current deal.
Paris St Germain (PSG) are breaking no rules if they are negotiating with Messi and their sporting director Leonardo has admitted that the club are open signing Messi: “Great players like Messi will always be put in PSG's list. Of course, it is not the time to talk about it or to dream about it. But we are sat at the big table of the clubs following this closely.”
PSG dominate the French league and reached the Champions League final last season, helped by Messi’s former Barca team-mate and long-time friend Neymar.
“What I want the most is to enjoy playing with him again,” said Neymar recently, courting the speculation.
“He can play in my role, it wouldn't be a problem with me! For sure, next year we have to do it.”
Messi being free to talk to PSG has not stopped Barca presidential candidate Joan Laporta threatening to take legal action against the Argentine’s potential suitors if he secures a second term.
Laporta believes PSG, who have been strongly linked with Messi ever since his decision (subsequently withdrawn) to hand in a transfer request at the end of the 2019-20 campaign, have overstepped the mark and been “disrespectful” in their pursuit of the Argentina superstar.
Laporta exclaimed: “It is disrespectful to Barca that clubs like PSG publicly say they are going to sign Messi. We cannot allow clubs and states the luxury of destabilising another club.
“In that sense, we will have to speak with UEFA and FIFA to avoid such actions. PSG must abstain from [talking about Messi]. It is out of place for another club to speak about him. And, at the moment, there is no president in place to respond to this lack of respect.
“I find it inappropriate. It shows their lack of experience at this level. They still have a lot to learn in the world of football.”
On the face of it, Laporta’s comments are understandable, even if Messi IS free to speak to other clubs since January.
But Barca’s own conduct over the years completely undermines their indignation when others are doing to them what they have done to other clubs for years.
Arsenal captain and former Barcelona youth player Cesc Fabregas was linked with a return to the Camp Nou for years.
Star midfielder Xavi said that Fabregas had “Barca DNA” and after winning the 2010 World Cup, defender Carles Puyol was one of many to put a Barca shirt on the Arsenal player before any deal had been sanctioned.
More recently, Brazilian club Gremio threatened to file a formal complaint to FIFA over claims that Barcelona held secretive talks with their highly rated midfielder Arthur Melo.
Melo later joined the club, as did Atletico Madrid striker Antione Griezmann, whose tapping up led to Atletico filing a formal complaint.
“Atlético Madrid wishes to express its strongest disapproval of the behaviour of both [parties], especially FC Barcelona, for prompting the player to break his contractual relationship with Atlético Madrid,” a statement said.
“We have learned that Barcelona and the player had reached an agreement in March, specifically in the days following the return match of our Champions League tie against Juventus, and that they had been negotiating the terms of the agreement since mid-February”.
The impending departure of Messi would certainly be a blow to Barcelona’s status as one of the biggest clubs in the world – and the pandemic has inevitably created financial challenges for clubs reliant on fans for much of their income.
But the hypocrisy of Barca’s frustration at another club flirting with one of their players serves as little more than a distraction with the Catalunya club ten points behind the league leaders, facing financial ruin and without a President.
Rather than publicly picking fights with other clubs, they would be better served on restoring the great club to its former glories.

THE F A M I L Y  WAY. [ 6 ]
.BACKGROUND.
Chanel Dior, was born in Los Angeles to high school sweethearts to Francesca Merchand and Carmelo Wilkins. There relationship is somewhat cliche, the story of the good girl from a Christian background falling for the gangster of the neighborhood. Though they’re lov was forbidden it was still very strong. Fran and Melo had a hood love and it was deemed perfect until the reality of a gangster life caught up with the both of them. In attempts to kill her Francesca to get to Carmelo, Francesca’s mother was killed instead. Just a few days later, she ended up finding out she was pregnant with Chanel. Going through a pregnancy through grief because of who her significant other was, caused a lot of issues between Chanel’s parents. So, growing up in her early childhood, Chanel witnessed the very explosive and violent relationship that was her mother and father. Her parents were marries, divorced, together again, re-engaged, and separated all before Chanel was 15.
.LIVING.
After retiring the street life as promised he’d do for his family, Chanel’s father began an investment into a family owned Jeweler company. Today, he’s the CEO of Pristine Jewelers which is a franchise of jeweler shops throughout the country. Chanel’s mother is the co-CEO as well as spokesperson for the company. The family’s income comes from the company and allows the family to live they lavish and luxurious life they do as chaotic it can be behind closed doors.
.RELATIONSHIP.
Chanel’s relationship with her parents is divided. By heart, she is a daddy’s girl but her relationship with her father has driven apart because of the things she knows he has put her mother through. Her relationship with her mother however is extremely spotty because of her mother’s explosive and sometimes bi-polar like personality. Chanel has a younger sister and brother who are twins and a half older brother from her father’s side. Her parents have at some point tried to control her wild behavior but after a while have taken the back burner and just seemingly neglected to care about anything she did.
.ACADEMIC.
Chanel was born in Baldwin Hills, Los Angeles but by the time she was in the fourth grade she moved to Santa Monica. Between the issues within her parent’s relationship, them running the family business, and taking care of their youngest children; Chanel’s parents enrolled her into boarding school because they had the money and didn’t have the time for their growing teenage daughter. It was never the case of Chanel becoming too out of hand, or the relationships between her parents. It was more so Chanel wanting space away from her parents and there toxic personalities and them not wanting her to deal with it anymore than she already had.

Cesar Ruiz could help protect Lamar Jackson with the Ravens
Tumblr media
The Michigan center would be an exciting addition to Baltimore’s offense.
The Baltimore Ravens may not have made the Super Bowl last season, but they are the most exciting team in the NFL. That, of course, is thanks to superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson. The reigning NFL MVP took the Ravens to a league-best 14-2 record until they fell in the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
This offseason, the Ravens have focused mainly on defense, bringing in defensive linemen Calais Campbell and Derek Wolfe to fix their run defense. They also landed a second-round that was part of a trade for backup tight end Hayden Hurst.
While the Ravens still have some needs on defense to satisfy, the offense deserves some attention as well.
That’s what Kyle P. Barber of Baltimore Beatdown gets them in the 14th annual SB Nation NFL writers’ mock draft.
28. Baltimore Ravens: Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan
Barber: The position most mocked to the Ravens at 28 has been inside linebacker, but both Kenneth Murray and Patrick Queen are off the board. Even if they had been available, I’d still go with Cesar Ruiz as the Baltimore Ravens’ selection.
The Ravens’ running game set multiple NFL records last season and now the team must overcome the retirement of Hall of Fame-worthy guard Marshal Yanda. Also, last season’s starting center, Matt Skura, suffered a season-ending ACL, MCL, and PCL tear in Week 12. Skura has been recovering quite nicely, seeing as he just posted a video of himself squatting 300 pounds on April 15, but you’d rather be overloaded with blocking talent than desperate for a blocker. That’s why I see Eric DeCosta selecting Ruiz.
Ruiz is a highly regarded prospect and a great addition at No. 28 overall. Though Ruiz has played mainly center, he’s also played right guard, which means if Skura comes back ready for the season, Ruiz can take over duties beside him. He’s young, smart, and athletic enough to open up running lanes at the first and second levels while staying strong and formidable in pass protection. There’s not much to dislike about him that you couldn’t say about any other prospect. You hope for more power and polish, which will come in due time with guidance from Ravens offensive line coach Joe D’Alessandris.
Analysis: There is never anything wrong at this point in the first round in getting the best player at his position. Sure, that might not be true if it’s a kicker or fullback, but Ruiz is an NFL-ready starting center. If the Ravens did take Ruiz and Skura is slow to recover, the veteran might not get his job back.
Ruiz started 26 games at center in college, and showed that he’s an excellent pass blocker. He has good handwork and his technique helps him against more powerful defensive linemen. As a run blocker, he’s very good when out on the move.
Top five remaining players:
15. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
22. Grant Delpit, S, LSU
23. Austin Jackson, OT, USC
24. Yetur Gross-Matos, Edge, Penn State
26. Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
Up next is Music City Miracles and Justin Melo making the pick for the Tennessee Titans at No. 30.

Carmelo "Traded" to "Boston"
Occam’s Razor: the principal is interpreted as stating the hypothesis with the fewest assumptions is selected. Carmelo Anthony is a score-first wing. The Boston Celtics do not have a backup option for points when Isaiah is struggling. Unlike Washington, Cleveland and Mother Of All Goliath’s the Golden State Warriors where they have two - sometimes three options, Boston’s lone five foot, nine-point guard is the sole source for offense. This off-season three-and-D wings on the free agent and trade blocks: Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Gordon Hayward, Paul Millsap, Blake Griffin and Carmelo Anthony. Anthony shouldn’t be Ainge’s Plan A or even B and C for that matter. Only other player I’d gladly take Carmelo over on the list of players I’ve just named is Blake Griffin. He may also be the only suitor willing and able to take the risk on the reclamation project. His contract, set to expire in 2019, holds a player-option for 2018-‘19 which he’ll certainly exercise, is pretty palatable. $54,171,900 left on his deal for two seasons, once he’s waived his no-trade clause once he cannot dictate terms of how he wants the team to play, demand coaches be fired, players be shuttled out because no matter where he lands all the leverage will be with the team. Having a history of not getting along with coaches; some instances we shouldn’t blame him for. Others, we definitely should. In the cases of Mike D'Antoni, his handling of “Linsanity” Carmelo instrumented coups with his reluctance to play within a system (not wanting to play the 4), to move the ball (jab steps), and hog the limelight. In the process of ruining his reputation in the last six-years, we’ve outright questioned his interest in winning. Theorized he’s most likely content staying on the tire fire Knicks, retire there and live it up in his mansions. The last two-years, while his talents have declined, his demeanor has risen. Maybe it’s just the berating Phil Jackson seems to give Carmelo on a daily basis, but you can see the changes he’s undergone since the first four years in New York. Embracing Kristaps Porzingis as the team’s future and best player. Carmelo’s handled the constant strain of front-office turmoil with humility and dignity. He’s still that same ball-stopper content with letting the best teammate he’s ever had rot in the corner, that all being said. His best years are behind him. Days as a number one on a contender are behind him too. Let’s take somber gander at his best three-years and most recent two. 2012-14: 21.8 FGA, 45.1%, 5.8 3PA, 39.1%, 7.3 FTA, 84%, 28-7.5-2.9, 24.6 PER, 56.1 TS%, 33.9 USG%, 20.2 WS, 7 VORP, made All-NBA 2nd Team in 2013, finished 3rd to two transcendent all-timers in the MVP vote the same year and won fifty-four games in 2012-13. What’s always troubling is just how unfriendly the advanced metrics are to Carmelo. He’s basically a wing version of Russell Westbrook, minus the insane hunt to pad his rebounding stats and to inflate his assists totals. Both are ball-dominate ball hogs that never made their teammates any better, and you could ague they did the opposite. But for three-years Carmelo sat upon a throne as a respected scorer toiling away in (kinda has himself to blame) mediocrity. In the summer of 2014 the world awaited LeBron’s decision. We eagerly did the same for Carmelo. One team gave him the best chance to go for a ring. Tried to clear up cap space to satisfy his needs. Bulls fans agonized over whether Carmelo was worth giving Taj Gibson up for. Taj Gibson…Taj Gibson. Rumors circulated Jimmy Butler would hit the dirt instead. If that had occurred the Chicago Bulls fans would enter a depression not seen since the 'Great Depression'. Carmelo proved Basketball was yet another business by grabbing one last epic pay-day before he succumbed to injury. In February of 2015 Carmelo did suffer a season ending knee injury. And with it, officially brought the curtain down on his five-year prime. Since his injury, 2015-'17: 18.5 FGA, 43.4%, 5.3 3PA, 35%, 5.3 FTA, 83.1%, 22.1-6.8-3.5, 19.1 PER, 53.3 TS%, 29.4 USG%, 11.1 WS, 3.8 VORP, 62 wins in two-seasons, no All-NBA Teams, two token All-Star nods Dip. Dip. Dip. Dip. I put my hand upon your hip. When I dip you dip we dip. Number 7 with extra DIP. The friendly, Pro-Carmelo side of the story is he’s teammates have always been piss poor. It’s only logical in his advanced age Carmelo is proven unable to drag team’s to 48 wins off sheer will alone. Best point guard he’s ever had been '08-'09 Chauncey Billups whom went AWOL on Melo in the Conference Finals. '09 J.R Smith (ditto). A soon-to-be washed up Kenyon Martin. Chris “Birdman” Anderson, and George Karl as an overrated head coach. Carmelo played 66 games that year, the Nuggets won 54 games off the back of his 44.3%, 37.1 3P%, 22.8-6.8-3.4 stat line. His best Knicks team won the same amount of games with Raymond Felton starting at the one. Washed-up versions of Jason Kidd, Amar'e Stoudemire, Marcus Camby, and head case J.R Smith (disappeared in the Indiana series). Still number seven soared heads and shoulders above posting 44.9%, 37.9 3P%, 28.7-6.9-2.6 almost was enough to get the Knicks to round three. If sought after by Boston, a drastic overhaul in what the Celtics philosophy. Currently they are the good times ship, a bunch of overachievers scraping victories together out of pure will and gumption. Yeah. Say goodbye to that. Jae Crowder, for all his limitations, is the engine to that ship and will need to the Big Apple for the deal to work in not just salary (Boston does not own “expensive” contracts after this summer), but in talent. Before you start shedding tears for Jae, let me tell you he’s been a wonderful Celtic’. Without him keeping Boston’s heads above water post-Rondo trade there is no Isaiah Thomas. A point never that can never be understated. But it is apparent he’s hit a wall in how far his skills can take a contender. Over the course of a grueling season his legs have turned to cement at times on defense, been beyond abysmal from beyond the arc. Another departure is two-way player Avery Bradley, who at times plays like an All-Star, potentially the best two-guard in the East. On other nights he’s…Avery Bradley. A wholesome defender, not to good as a help-defender. Has an inconsistent jump shot and problems staying on the floor. In the first two Isaiah years before Horford, Bradley was the key that started Isaiah Thomas. When he would go on those mini-scoring runs in the first half, it assured the floor would be open for The Little Guy to go to work. In a league where you’re team is only allowed to play one traditional Big at a time, the paint is already as open as it’s ever been in its history. Adding a two-guard like Avery to the mix makes it almost unfair at points. Now before you start to cry for Avery he’ll be an expensive player next summer. Sure to have many suitors able to pay out the ass to have him slip on a uniform. Course all of this is a mute point. Boston was Carmelo's likeliest suitor. Now that the team's in a situation where Ainge would be crazy to take a swing at Carmelo, you can get your life he's never dawning that green jersey. So who are his other potential suitors for a Carmelo trade? (Melo being bought out is a real possibility, which opens up maybe a dozen teams in my opinion.) 1. Chicago 2. Dallas Chicago because it'll be so them to grab Carmelo three-years too late. Paired up with a fossilizing D-Wade and a increasingly annoyed Jimmy Butler. A neutered head coach that was never empowered to begin with. It be perfect! My hypothetical: Rajon Rondo, Robin Lopez and a 2018 1st. Anybody else think Rondo is the ideal point guard to run the triangle? Dallas: Wesley Matthews, J.J Barea. Yeah. That's right I said no pick is necessary. Wesley Matthews is all the Knicks need and should be happy. Dallas wants to funnel one last Dirk playoff run before he rides off into the sunset. There isn't a better available player to do that than Carmelo. The fit of Barnes (pretty good), Melo and Noel in the front court is fascinating and has serious potential. Seth Curry is a starter quality PG. I think the Mavs with Carmelo are 47-game winners. So in short: Carmelo is someone you chase if you don't care about the long term financial impact. An attempt to increase ticket sales, make a playoff run that may end in the second round if you're lucky. Neither of the potential new homes will ever compete for a championship. Carmelo Anthony, thanks to mostly his and the Knicks lack of foresight, and how the chips have fallen is a redundant All-Star on the market. (You can reach me on Twitter @Sailboatstudios)

Scotland captain Andy Robertson admits he still doesn’t really know how the Nations League works
Andy Robertson continues to scale new heights. [Yesterday nominated for the FIFPro WorldTeam of the Year is the captain of Scotland now officially recognized by his colleague & # 39; ] Real Madrid & Marcelo, Alex Sandro of Juventus and Barcelona loyal Jordi Alba is a formidable collection of rivals for Robertson. But did one of those world-class artists have the same impact last season as the boy from Renfrewshire?
Scotland is now officially recognized by his colleagues as one of the very best players
His lead role in the Liverpool Champions League triumph and painfully close miss in the English Premier League – was rightly recognized in a vote of more than 23,000 professional soccer players. No eyebrows will be raised if Robertson is chosen in his usual position when the last XI is mentioned later this month.
It is the first time that a Scot has ever been nominated in the 15-year history of the prize. And it further emphasizes the climb from Robertson to the elite.
He now wants to repeat that rise in his efforts with the national side of Steve Clarke. Helping to boost the bidding qualification for Euro 2020 is a source of immense motivation for a player who gets used to keeping the most valued type of business.
& # 39; I joked and said that I am one of the 55 – probably the largest team I have ever been involved in – & # 39 ;, Robertson laughed when asked about his FIFPro – nomination.
& # 39; It's clearly something huge for me, but let's see if I get into the XI or not. Even to be mentioned alongside the players, there is a special feeling.
& # 39; Let's see how many of us join the team – and many of the other Liverpool guys could probably have been there. That shows how good a season we had last year. & # 39;
Four left behind are on the 55-man list announced by the global players' association
Yet those achievements have already been forgotten – parked until retirement brings time for reflection. For Robertson it is about making the future even more successful. With club and country.
He has been closely involved in attempts by the SFA to make a new blueprint for progression, including the best practice learned in Liverpool in the preparations for the national side.
That is all important and worthy. Still, Robertson is well aware that only the players can deliver when it comes to crunch points on the field.
Scotland has just arrived in the field of automatic qualification for Euro 2020. Loss to Russia in Hampden Tonight and hope for a finish in the top two in group I would definitely disappear.
& # 39; Everyone on the team wants Scotland to be successful & # 39 ;, Robertson insisted. "We are all pushing in the right direction.
" I am the captain and a leader and if people look at me, I will try to push that direction.
& # 39; We need to try to get the results that we think we deserve after the efforts we have made.
& # 39; It is a crucial game. We know that if we have aspirations to finish second and qualify – no matter what we do – it will be realistic between ourselves and Russia. They are our rivals for this group.
"It is the first time we have met them and it is home. We have to produce great results again. We didn't do it for too long. Why not start now? If we can, the group will look a lot better.
No eyebrows would be raised if Robertson was chosen on the left when the last XI is mentioned
& # 39; We know how big it is and that's how they do it. We have to show up, perform like we did at club level and all come together.
I wouldn't be here if I didn't believe we could achieve things. It is an enormous honor to play for your country, but we must try to return to major tournaments. It has been too long.
"Probably too many players have sat here and said we will be back. And it didn't happen. We have to make sure that we are the group of guys that make it happen. & # 39;
Scotland already wiped out the back-up option of a play-off as early as March after winning their Nations League group, emphasizing that this is not equivalent to any sense of comfort.
& # 39; I didn't even think about it, & # 39; he said. Yet I still don't really know how the Nations League works! I know we won the group and we have a play-off, but I don't know who will be against it or whatever. We are in a qualifying campaign and I prefer to qualify in this way. & # 39;
Russia offers a positive example of what success could mean for Scotland. Written off by most pre-tournament observers, they were driven by a home crowd to make the quarter-finals of last summer's World Cup.
Hampden organizes three competitions in the multi-national staging of Euro 2020, an extra incentive to end a 22-year absence of major competitions.
& I looked at the World Cup and I saw Russia & # 39 ;, said Robertson. "They have a huge result against Spain. As a homeland there would have been a lot of pressure on them and they have done very well.
"They form a very good team. It will be difficult, but we believe we can also cause team problems.
& # 39; We must show resilience in the defense, but we must also pose an attacking threat.
& # 39; They come here to imagine. We must ensure that our game plan is correct and that they do not start with three points. & # 39;
THE 55 WORLD XI NOMINESE

NBA Rumors: Deals for Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Shaun Livingston and JR Smith
NBA free agency is officially over, and most of the big deals are done. It doesn’t mean that we have to wait for the next year to trade in or out the remaining free agents. There are a lot of notable free agents who have yet not found new teams. Here are the late free agency deals for Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Shaun Livingston, and JR Smith.
youtube
Carmelo Anthony – LA Lakers
Carmelo Anthony was not doing any good in Houston Rockets during the last season. It doesn’t mean that the player is not talented; he is a multiple All-Star level athlete. Around 3 years back, Melo had an average of 22.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.0 trifecta, which is a rare feat. The Lakers might offer Anthony a new deal as LeBron James is pushing for it.
Good Morning! Just a reminder that Carmelo Anthony is a Better Pure Scorer then Kevin Durant…..
— GOAT🐐🐐 (@goat_soslamy23) July 20, 2019
Dwight Howard – Portland Trail Blazers
Dwight Howard is officially not a free agent, but the Memphis Grizzlies will trade out him soon. He was an integral part of the Washington Wizards before they send him to the Grizzlies, who bought him as an asset. Given the age and style of play, Howard has, the Portland Trail Blazers are a suitable team for him.
Hey 👋 @DwightHoward! Hangin’ courtside at the game with his daughter! pic.twitter.com/0XxtASCkz8
— WNBA (@WNBA) July 14, 2019
Shaun Livingston – LA Clippers
Shaun Livingston was planning to retire from NBA when the Golden State Warriors waived him off this season. The Clippers needs someone to balance the floor and Livingston might be a good option. Kawhi Leonard and Paul George need someone to support them, and Livingston has a lot of experience in that matter.
So the Warriors waived (Shaun Livingston) or traded (Andre Iguodala) two-thirds of their trio of elite defenders.
I’ll ask again: “And to what end?”
— John Loop (@JohnJLoop) July 20, 2019
JR Smith – Miami Heat
JR Smith has been linked with the team of Miami Heat since the last few days. The Heat wants a star partner for Jimmy Butler, and Smith is an ideal candidate. In the last NBA season, Smith managed to shoot 30.8 percent from the deep end of the court. It is the main reason why the Miami team wants an experienced player like JR Smith for the next season.
Once guard JR Smith clears waivers, the Los Angeles Lakers are an unlikely destination, league sources tell ESPN.
