Summary: You have been suffering from terrible insomnia. You know exactly what you need to do to get a full night's sleep- you've just been putting it off. You were so worried about what Cliff would think. But one night, you were home alone. You had a chance. The only thing you didn't think through was how Cliff would find you when he returned. Would he be accepting?
Notes: This was written for my own personal comfort. Please, please be nice. (Btw I am not very good at writing complete paragraphs lol.)
It finally happened.
You were finally able to sleep.
After months of restless nights- twenty-four hour periods turned to excruciating forty-eight hour periods without sleep. The sweet dreams finally came, and you were in the sandman's cradle.
Before tonight, you tried it all; the melatonin capsules, night lights, meditations, yoga, benadryl, cutting out television an hour before bedtime. You even tried beer and weed! Lord knows there was enough of that in the house, at least.
Surely those two substances combined were enough to virtually knock your lights out!
But nothing seemed to work. You felt like you tried everything in vain. The agony of staying awake for so long made your focus little to none. If sleep was even fortunate enough to grace you with its presence, it would never stay the course. And then came a time where the night terrors were seemingly endless.
All your past traumas would come flooding back to you- chasing you.
Reminding you.
It was embarrassing to wake up thrashing and screaming so loud, Cliff would rush into the room to calm you down- and Cliff slept like a bear. Under any other circumstances, you couldn’t wake him up for anything!
He’d probably sleep through a world war, if it happened.
You were fed up with the night terrors.
He'd help you through the panic attacks every time. And still, shame would pour upon you each time you apologized for waking him.
Cliff was even kind enough to let you sleep beside him, sometimes. But it felt ultimately useless. It felt like nothing was gonna get you to stay asleep- if you did at all. He kept urging you to see a doctor. A psychiatrist, a sleep specialist….something!
You couldn’t keep living like this. Slumber would hit him like a ton of bricks- and you would be left to lay there with eyes wide open, listening to him soundly snore. You would often wish that you could snore along with him; to come with on a joyride to the good dream realm, for once.
But not tonight.
You hadn’t let yourself regress in so long, but you knew deep down that it was the answer to all your sleeping troubles. It would always calm you down and aid in a very good night’s sleep. Your age regression never failed. But you were stubborn.
No, you couldn’t- not in the same house as Cliff Burton.
He was such a smart and talented man. In a way, you certainly looked up to him. The way he spoke, the way he carried himself, the way he stayed so calm all the time- and you were always on the edge of a freak out. The sleeplessness sure didn’t help that matter, either.
Most folks didn’t understand age regression. Too many chalk it up to be something it should not. So you didn’t like to talk about it. You didn't want those closest to you getting the wrong impression.
Just imagine if Cliff found out reverting yourself down to a mere toddler was what you called “Heaven”. You were always the happiest when you were small. The pleasures were simple, and life felt joyous.
There was no way. He would tease you for sure.
At least, that’s what you thought.
Cliff may not have shown it, but he was worried about you.
Age regression was a trauma response.
You were good at suppressing those feelings, even when the regression was abrupt or involuntary. But masking was exhausting, and you were already tired enough. "Somethings gotta give." You thought.
So tonight, you took a chance.
Cliff invited you to go out with friends that evening, but wasn't surprised when you turned down the offer. He knew you really didn’t have the energy, but still wanted to be nice. He felt bad, knowing there wasn’t much he could do.
“Alright, well just try to relax,” Cliff told you. He tapped a brand new pack of Marlboro reds against his palm while saying this.
“Chill out, order in and watch a movie or something.” He bit the tip of a fresh square between his teeth. “I rolled an extra joint, if you’re interested.” He grinned real wide with the cigarette still poking out through his choppers. “I left it on the dresser for you.”
That man and his weed.
You thanked him, even though you weren’t very keen on smoking. It’s the thought that counts, and you knew he was trying his best to help you in whatever way he could. He patted your shoulder before he left, as a way to reassure you.
When he left, you took a deep breath. You were diving into a big leap of faith- and honestly, it was about time! Regression truly felt like your last hope; your last chance to get the rest you’ve been waiting for.
So you pulled out your toys and threw on your cozy clothes, determined to have a blast. And more importantly- determined to get to sleep.
And after hours of playing, relaxation, and watching cartoons, here you were- snug as a bug in a rug. You were wrapped up in a blanket with your favorite plush and your binky tucked between your teeth. Everything was perfect. Finally.
It was about twenty past midnight when Cliff returned.
Entering the home, he was puzzled to be greeted with silence. Usually the tv was on or some type of noise was stirring. But all he could hear was the faintest ticking of the clock. He shut the back door behind him and shed his shoes. He mosied into the quiet living room, hoping that everything was okay.
Cliff dismissively threw his keys back into his pocket while approaching the living room entrance. He stopped in place and raised an eyebrow when he saw you, on the couch fast asleep-
….With a pacifier?
Now Cliff was even more puzzled about what was going on. While on the other hand, he was absolutely relieved to finally see you sleeping. He was ecstatic for you, it was a miracle! He almost wanted to jump with joy and cheer! At last, you were asleep.
He looked at the surrounding area and puffed out a breathy chuckle while seeing the childish toys laying around. Rattles, toy cars, blocks, Little People figures with their playsets- you name it, you had it. Of course, he knew you always enjoyed toys, you had a whole collection growing on your shelf! But he never saw you display these toys before.
Cliff lightened his steps as he crept closer. You looked so peaceful and cute.
He may have had a thousand questions running through his head about what was going on, but none of that really mattered, right now. A kind and gentle smile spread across his face while kneeling beside the couch.
He couldn’t help but just watch you. Not in any demeaning sort of way- but Cliff was truly fascinated. He's never seen anything like this before.
And on top of that, he was stoned. Like usual. That only seemed to enhance his fascination.
Soft hazel eyes scanned over the rhythmic rise and fall of your chest as you breathe. He saw the way your eyelids would twitch, and the front of your binky wiggled whenever it was sucked. The redhead wanted to reach out and pet your hair, but refrained from doing so, seeing as not to wake you.
Cliff watched you for another moment, hearing your quiet breathing. He wondered what you were dreaming about. "Hopefully it’s something good.” He thought. He didn’t notice the keys he’d so carelessly shoved into his bell bottoms were dangling away from the fabric. He was solely focused on you.
And all within seconds did they slip out, loudly clunking to the carpet in a big metal pile.
Crap.
You immediately stirred and opened your eyes before Cliff could even react. Things were groggy; it took you a couple seconds to realize that he was kneeling right next to you. Your eyes immediately widened with fear like saucers. Wait. Where the heck did he come from?!
Your mind was racing, trying to put the pieces together in your tired and fragile state of mind. What time is it? How long had Cliff been staring at you? Why was he staring at you? Even more importantly-
Did Cliff still like you? Was he angry about the mess? Did he think you were weird?
Is he going to think this was something bad like all the others?
There were so many questions and in your childlike state of mind, you couldn't take it. You couldn't handle feeling so crowded. You trembled and pulled away from the blanket and cushions of the couch. You recoiled into yourself from such a startle. No, this was not a good way to be woken up. Not at all.
“Woah. Hey, hey, it’s okay. It’s just me.” Cliff put on a soft tone of voice. He held up his hands in a surrendering gesture. “It’s okay, you’re safe.” Even though every single curse word in the English language was racing through his brain, in this situation. Those stupid keys.
You shook your head. Your mind was like a light switch, shifting back and forth from adult to child. It finally dawned on you that you still had the binky planted in your mouth. Your teeth had bit down, holding on for dear life as your fight or flight mode was exposed. It was like you couldn’t move aside from a tremble.
A murmur erupted from your throat. “I-”
You finally pulled it away from your mouth and threw it off to the other side of the couch. “I can explain!” The much louder words flew out of your mouth so fast, you didn’t even realize it made you drool. Now you must’ve looked even more like a child to Cliff.
You wiped your chin on the sleeve of your sweater and looked up at the tall man before you. You felt defeated. Dog tired and defeated.
“Shh.” Cliff shook his head and continued to be tender. “It can wait until later.” He remained cautious of your frail mindstate, while putting his hand on your shoulder for comfort. “Everything’s okay. Just breathe.” He would often take deep breaths along with you, during your anxiety attacks.
All you could think was- “please don’t cry, please don’t cry, please don’t cry.” But you did the best you could. You were breathing along with him with quivering lungs.
You almost didn’t want him to touch you. He read your emotion clear as day after noticing your shoulder inch back from him, ever the slightest. Cliff pulled his hand away while keeping his calm demeanor. "It's alright." He wasn't offended. His face was soft, and his half-lidded, stoner eyes kept a caring gaze of concern.
“Want me to get you a glass of water?”
Water was good. Hydration was good.
You shrugged your shoulders. It was hard to maintain eye contact. The shameful feeling heavy on your shoulders was making it nearly impossible. Your eyes kept darting around the room in a frenzy. Without another word, the redhead stood up fully and went to the kitchen; you assumed for the glass of water he offered.
You brought your knees up to your chest and buried your face into them, hugging yourself while still breathing. It was this.
This.
This crap was exactly what you were afraid of.
“He’s never gonna look at you the same way again. You’ve messed everything up.” You were mentally scolding yourself over it. Thinking that way was doing nothing to help your anxiety. It was self-sabotage at its worst. It was all too familiar.
In contrast, Cliff remained very positive. He may not have fully understood what he walked in on, but he had a hunch. But what you experienced was so much more than just basic nostalgia. It was sheer comfort. Whatever it was, he knew one thing was for certain-
If it helps you relax enough to actually stay asleep, he was going to encourage it. Without a doubt.
Who was he to pass judgment?
You were brought back to reality by the gentle ‘clink’ of a glass being set on the coffee table. You looked up from your knees to stare at the cup of water, then finally, up at Cliff. Dear Cliff- bass extraordinaire.
“Here you go.” He smiled at you. Despite your wide eyes being tearful, he found your stare to be ingenuous; childlike, even. Not that it was even surprising, given the circumstances of how he found you.
Cliff watched you slowly start to untangle yourself from the ball that you were curled in. He wanted to titter at the way your socks were too big for your feet; they fell away from your calves and bunched at your ankles.
You were cautious while reaching for the glass with both hands, which were still shaky from the aftereffects of fright. You sipped the water successfully without dropping it. All the times in childhood you were yelled at for spilling, briefly went through your mind. The memories made you want to cringe.
Small children use sippy cups and tumblers with straws for a reason.
But at least you didn’t have to worry about that, right now.
Cliff didn’t want to make his staring at you obvious- that probably did more harm than good for tonight. He was still discreetly annoyed with himself for causing you such agitation. So he decided to clear up the toys left on the floor, stashing them all in one pile to be put away later.
Every time he leaned over, he took the opportunity to pass you a glance through his long red locks.
Oversized sweater ten sizes too big; big slouchy, mismatched socks; boxer-style underwear that was printed with little green aliens? Come on!
You were adorable to him.
He could almost feel his freckled cheeks start to heat up in a blush. He turned away and grinned to himself while hearing one of your toys rattle as it was moved. He imagined how cute you'd look while playing with these.
After a few sips, you set the glass down while scooting yourself to the very edge of the seat. You took a deep breath, using the moment to contemplate your next move. Your eyes were starting to blur from holding back the emotions for so long, and your leg was bouncing from restlessness.
Being so nervous was making you stutter. You were finding it difficult to force your words out.
“I’m gonna-”
Hold on, what were you gonna do, again?
“Go pee.”
You shook your head. “Wait, ew. Rephrase yourself. Don't say it like that!”
“Uh, go to the bathroom. I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” Your words spewed out so fast, you almost felt like Regan from The Exorcist. Projectile-barfing out green vomit everywhere- except in your case, it was words. Word-vomit.
You finally found the strength to stand up on your wobbly legs.
Cliff was returning your puzzle pieces back into the box, when he turned his head to you and nodded. “Take your time.” His voice sounded sincere. Definitely not sarcastic in any way.
There was a brief awkwardness surrounding the living room. You just stood there, twirling your fingers around the fraying hems of your sweater sleeves. Why was Cliff acting so….nonchalant? It felt suspicious.
“You don’t have to clean up after me, you know.”
Again, your words mumbled and sputtered like a dying engine. In Cliff’s high state, he almost had to take a second to realize what you said. He sealed up the box of puzzle pieces and set it aside. “You’re good, I don’t mind.” He grinned at you with hopefulness.
There could have been a chance he was lying, but Cliff was an honest man. He was always the type of guy to just tell it like it is. You had to remember he was also under the influence.
Okay, so maybe it's not so suspicious.
You said nothing while nodding your head. You were light on your feet as you slipped past him to the bathroom down the hall. Your vision was blurring the whole way there. As soon as you closed the door, everything broke loose.
There was no more holding back. Tears started pouring out like a fountain, bringing all the unwanted anxiety, guilt, and shame to the surface. Choking down your sobs the best you could with your head in your hands. You felt like there was no going back now. There was no way to undo this- this mess you caused.
There was no way for Cliff to unsee what he saw.
“Why did I take the stupid chance?” You thought. All hope must be lost. You felt so pathetic.
But what you didn’t know was that he didn’t want to unsee things. He wanted honesty. He wanted to witness the real you. And he wanted to be there to help you power through the trenches, so long as you let him.
Cliff was patient.
It felt like you’d been in the bathroom for so long. The tears were finally slowing down, leaving your eyes aching. Now you feel even more exhausted than before. You flushed the toilet and turned to the sink. The reflection in the mirror felt haunting to you.
He’s gonna know you’ve been crying.
You took one straight look at yourself and turned away. It was like a trap to get you to start crying again.
You ignored the mirror while washing your hands, then splashed your face with water. It was going to take a minute to prepare walking out. Best case scenario, Cliff stopped caring and went to bed.
Nah, Cliff was a night-owl. Even more so than that, he was not one to abandon his friends when they may be vulnerable. He wasn’t going to leave you alone and upset like this.
After drying your hands and face, you took a deep breath. Your body felt frozen in place with your hand on the doorknob. You looked over at the mirror again. Red eyes, red nose, still looking all sorts of pitiful. So many insults were crowding your brain again. Just like always. But you remembered why regression worked so well for you-
It replaced some of your bad habits. Much nastier ones.
“Shut up.” You mumbled and turned away from the mirror.
Those were old habits; ones you’ve grown out of. As ironic as it was, letting yourself be a child again has done wonders in helping you grow as a person. It was almost like therapy.
There was a sliver of confidence that helped you open the door again. You turned the light off behind you, hoping to leave all the tears and terrible thoughts behind.
Cliff was now sitting in the armchair with a lit square between his fingers. He was staring off at nothing in particular while looking deep in thought. He turned to you, offering another hopeful smile when you returned.
“Are you feeling any better?”
“I guess.” There was a pause between your words. You sat back down on the couch rather stiffly, staring straight ahead without expression.
Cliff’s smile quickly faded. He noticed your facial features still reddened and damp from crying. Smoke exhaled from his lips. “Come on, don’t lie.” His tone of voice remained neutral. Caring. "You know you can always talk to me."
You could see in the corner of your eye as he stubbed his square into the ashtray. The hair fell into your face while lowering your head. You stared down at your feet awkwardly. He was right. This mess wasn't gonna resolve itself.
“I’m sorry.”
That was all you could think to say. You sniffed back another myriad of tears, mopping your cheeks with your sleeve. The redhead wasn’t sure how to respond. Why did you feel sorry?
You didn’t do anything wrong.
He rose from the seat, moving over to the empty spot beside you. You felt his big hand rest on your back. He was just sitting beside you, trying to bring some comfort. You cursed under your breath while wiping away even more unwanted tears. They should’ve been all dried up by now.
“What’re you sorry for? I’m not mad.” Cliff assured. You felt him start to lightly rub up and down your back. That was instantly calming. You wanted to purr like a kitten and lean into his caress.
Laying beside him was your plushie. He smiled to himself and picked it up. He could tell just how loved this little toy was. Some of the seams appeared loose. The fabric was worn and matted in some areas, but it was still soft and cuddly-
And cute. Just like you.
“You have nothing to be sorry for.”
You could finally tell by his tone that Cliff was being sincere. So why the heck were you still so afraid? Why couldn’t you let him in? You were on a rollercoaster full of emotions, and you just wanted off. You didn’t want to be afraid.
Your head eventually lifted to reveal the exhaustion in your puffy eyes. “You don’t understand.” You sighed.
After a few seconds, you finally had the courage to look him in the eyes. Cliff has such a wise, old soul; you could tell just by looking at him. You were starting to trust that he wasn’t going to judge you.
“I want to. But I can’t if you don’t let me.” He rubbed your back again. His words remained gentle and empathetic. You nodded. Cliff settled the treasured stuffed animal into your arms, presenting another smile. You loved the way the corners of his mouth dimpled when he smiled. You finally smiled back- just a little.
“I just don’t wanna talk about it.” You made eye contact again while cuddling the plush to your chest. “I mean, I don’t think I can, right now.” You rubbed your fingers over the toy's fabric.
He nodded his head with all his understanding. “Like I said before, everything can wait until later.” He tousled your hair. “I’m not going to push you.” He poked you lightly in your side with his index finger, while sticking out his tongue- as a way to lighten the atmosphere.
Good ‘ol Cliff.
“P’omise?” You lisped. You looked at him with trusting eyes.
"Course I promise.” Cliff chuckled a little. "We can talk about it when you're ready." You noticed him look over toward the clock. It was ten after one. “Besides, we need to get you back to sleep.”
Cliff pulled your discarded binky from where it was thrown. It was laying between the cushions in the corner of the couch- but certainly not forgotten. He wiped off the rubber part and offered it to you. “If it helps you fall asleep, you should really use it.”
You looked at the binky he held up to you, then back at him before finally taking it. There was a tiny part of you that dreamed of this one day happening. Of Cliff actually encouraging you to regress, maybe even playing with you-
Maybe even look after you.
Your face sizzled with shyness, spinning the binky around in your hands. After contemplating for a short minute, you brought it up to your mouth. You latched on again and immediately started to feel better. Who knew such a mundane object would make all the difference.
The front of your binky wiggled a few times while you looked up at Cliff, who was now standing up with a big grin on his face. You trusted that he wouldn't laugh.
“That better?” He gave your head a few gentle pats.
“Mhm.” You nodded. “Tank 'ew.” You were starting to slip again and you were too tired to fight it. Way too tired. Your eyelids were growing heavy- in fact, everything was starting to feel heavy. Your body felt like a rock- a boulder, even.
You slumped backward into the cushions and watched as Cliff picked up the throw blanket, giving it a shake. You looked so sweet to him. Your plushie was still in your arms, being clutched to your chest.
“You must be so tired.” He helped you lay down. You curled up and made yourself as small as you could, rubbing your cheek against the soft, fleecy fabric of your sleeping companion. He draped the blanket over you and watched you snuggle in.
“There you go. Everything’s alright.” He brushed away some strands of hair from your face. He wanted you to feel nice and peaceful.
Cliff was cooing to you as if you were just a little child.
The little child you've always wanted to remain.
“It’s okay.”
He knelt down beside you, just like he did before you woke up. He whispered tender nothings to you, in between humming. His voice was like butter in your ears. Your head was empty, you didn't even know what song he was humming. All that mattered was that you were warm and safe beside him. Nothing could hurt you.
He continued to hum a low melody while stroking your hair. The weight and warmth of his hands, his crooning- it was all too much. Sweet slumber was inching closer and closer by the seconds. And before long, you just couldn’t keep your eyes open any further.
After all these months-
The nightmares had finally come to an end.

Tek's Birthday!
As if Lilith was removing herself from the prized seat of the couch for a clan of stoned toddlers; even, if she also wanted cake. It all changes, however, when her eyes watch the struggle and woes of Shaun finding her way to the kitchen. Christ, those eyes were lit up like a Christmas tree. In the very least, she had enough resolve to save the last half of her share of bread. But if any man, woman, or child stole her spot while she was gone, oh, they would regret their very existence on this earth. Without a word, Lilith leaves the group to come to Shaun's aid, softly placing her hand in between her shoulder blades, a warm smile rises as she turns around. "It's just me. You're welcome."
Already in mid snicker, Rebel leans down to whisper into Tek's ear, "They're just friends, just friending so friendly in the friend kitchen."
"Oh! But you've got cake right here!" Wasting no time, Aiden clamps onto Sam's wrists to lead them into groping his giant knockers, making them bounce under her grasp. Of course, he had to claim Poison Ivy for some hot lady action. Lesbians made him feel so safe; and it would have made a great fan fiction.
As the smile begins to falter, Robin's eyes glance over at the tenseness in Beatrix...then to Devin. The transition from bewilderment to temper, albeit less now than in the past, was predictable. Already, her feet were shifting to move to her right if called for. Apparently, good 'ol babushka, was caution taped button not to be pressed.
"Dude. What the fuck?" Through genuine shock and instinctively feeding the irritation already present, Devin pops off at opposition. "Are you trying to go right now?"
"Not in the fucking house." As soon as it left Devin's lips, Robin is quick to reprimand in protection of Gram-Gram's belongings that still littered the home. Hell no, they could take it outside if they wanted, she wouldn't stop them, but they weren't about to do fuck all in here.
---------------------
Shaun twitches under her hand at first—Lilith was so quiet and she was already a little melty, so it caught her off guard—but twisting around to see that it was just her, an unfiltered, fond smile surfaces on Shaun's lips. "Thank god, I almost forgot what I was coming in here for." She laughs, turning back to the fridge with a concentrated stare as she gingerly slides the cake out, shuffling to the side to set it on the counter. "Cake actually does sound really good...Do you want some? Where are the plates?"
Tingles stream down her neck at the unexpected breath in her ear, but when her brain finally understands Rebel's words, they elicit immediate giggling. "Right?" Tek whispers harshly, burning holes through the oblivious couple in the kitchen. "They're so full of poopie. When we were camping, I accidentally walked in on them cuddling. Cuddling. Them. It was like seeing a chicken speak perfect Spanish."
Sam snorts at his indecency, though in her pure curiosity, she couldn't help but to evaluate the feel of his giant, fake tits. "But yours are so full of artificial flavoring. There's no way this cake got made without some surgical intervention." She barely knew him before this moment, but Sam was still pleasantly delighted by his effortless company.
"I'm a lady, I would never disrespect someone's home." Beatrix glances over at Robin with a sardonic smile, still quite relaxed in her seat despite her biting tone. "Just like Devin needs to learn a little respect before flapping her gums."
Her unflinching eyes pass back to Devin, then, perking her brow. "Depends, have you had your warm milk and melatonin yet?" Beatrix's smile only broadens with her confusion. "Cause if you think you can try me, I will put that ass to sleep." Hell, Beatrix liked her. She came from a long line of respecting someone's strength, and Devin was built like a bull; an obnoxious little squat one too willful to lead the herd, but a strong one nonetheless. She was no stranger to benign posturing and smack talking, either; it was almost a love language. But if Devin thought she was going to get away with categorizing her beautiful grandmother and rich family tree as 'unimpressive', well, Beatrix could give her a little taste of its most recent fruit.

Sweet Dreams or Smoky Nightmares? The Rise of Melatonin Vape
In today’s whirlwind world, who doesn’t yearn for a good night’s sleep? Enter melatonin vape, the latest contestant in the race to dreamland. With the sleek allure of these pocket-sized gadgets promising a one-way ticket to Slumberland, it’s easy to get swept up in the mist. But hold onto your pillows, folks! Before you inhale your way to the stars, let’s puff through the haze of melatonin vapes together in a style that’s more stand-up comedy than sleep study seminar. What is a Melatonin Vape? Melatonin vapes have emerged as the trendy sleep aid of the moment, stylishly encased in gadgets resembling USB drives that whisper sweet nothings of sleep in your ear. But what exactly are they? Essentially, they’re e-cigarettes that swap out nicotine for melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep. Users inhale an aerosol that promises to deliver a quick melatonin hit to the bloodstream, theoretically speeding up the sleep process. However, whether this method is as effective as counting sheep or just counting on placebo remains a point of sleepy contention among experts. The allure of bypassing traditional pill-popping with a quick puff might sound like a dream, but the science is still out on a night stroll. While melatonin supplements are regulated by the FDA as dietary supplements, the vaporized form floats in a more nebulous space, leaving users to navigate the foggy landscape of efficacy and safety on their own. And while the body naturally prepares for sleep with gradually increasing melatonin levels, the vape’s instant hit is more like jumping onto a moving train and hoping you land in a bed. The Appeal of Convenience In an age where convenience is king, it’s no surprise that melatonin vapes are catching on faster than viral cat videos. They're small, discreet, and easy to use — no need for water or waiting. This is bedtime reimagined: instead of a nightly ritual of pill swallowing, it’s just a quick puff and off to dreamland. The idea is you can manage your sleep schedule as easily as changing TV channels, making it an attractive option for the sleep-deprived masses. Yet, this convenience might come with a cost. The ease of use could encourage overuse. It's one thing to pop a melatonin capsule when sleep is elusive, but reaching for a vape every time you feel restless? That might lead to an unconscious competition: who can get the least sleep before resorting to their trusty vape. The joke might ultimately be on the user, who ends up misting their way through a cloud of too much melatonin, too often. Health and Safety Concerns As with any product that becomes a bedroom staple, health and safety are huge concerns. The FDA has not approved melatonin vapes, largely because inhaling melatonin's effects on the lungs and the rest of the body are not well understood. Breathing in anything other than air usually gets a side-eye from health professionals, and for good reason. There’s a world of difference between digesting something and inhaling it — just ask any toddler who’s tried both methods with peas. Moreover, the production of these vapes isn’t subject to stringent regulations. This means you could be inhaling more than just melatonin — including any contaminants or by-products from the heating process. The long-term effects of using melatonin vapes are still up in the clouds, which might make some users wary. After all, diving into unknown waters—or in this case, clouds—without a safety net might just turn your dream ticket into a nightmare. The Verdict on Melatonin Vapes So, should you swap your nightcap for a vape pen? It depends on how you weigh the scales of convenience versus uncertainty. While the appeal of a quick fix to insomnia is undeniable, the potential health risks and lack of regulation present significant stumbling blocks. It might be more advisable to stick with more traditional methods of melatonin delivery until more research clears the air. It’s worth considering that good sleep hygiene—like avoiding screens before bed, sticking to a sleep schedule, and creating a restful environment—are proven ways to improve sleep without any added smoke. So, before you vape your way into unknown territory, maybe give those old-school methods another shot. After all, the best sleep solution might not be the most modern or the quickest, but the one that leaves you rested and ready for the day — without any extra fog. Conclusion In the cheekily written article "Sweet Dreams or Smoky Nightmares? The Rise of Melatonin Vapes," the intriguing trend of melatonin vapes is examined with a humorous twist. These devices promise a fast track to sleep by inhaling the hormone melatonin instead of ingesting it traditionally through pills. The first section of the article dives into what melatonin vapes are, highlighting their convenience and the unclear scientific consensus on their efficacy and safety. The article also addresses the allure of these gadgets, emphasizing their ease of use which could potentially lead to overuse, thereby transforming bedtime routines into quick puffs of aerosol. Health concerns are not overlooked, as the piece discusses the regulatory void and potential safety issues associated with inhaling substances not approved by the FDA. Finally, the article concludes with a balanced view on whether these vapes are worth integrating into nightly routines, suggesting that perhaps traditional sleep hygiene practices might be safer and more effective alternatives. This light-hearted exploration raises important questions about the trade-offs between convenience and health in our quest for better sleep. FAQs 1. What are melatonin vapes? Melatonin vapes are electronic devices that vaporize melatonin, allowing users to inhale the hormone directly into their lungs. They are designed to provide a quick method for delivering melatonin to the bloodstream, potentially helping users fall asleep faster than traditional oral supplements. 2. How do melatonin vapes work? These devices work by heating a liquid that contains melatonin until it vaporizes. When inhaled, the vaporized melatonin is absorbed through the lungs and enters the bloodstream. This method is thought to speed up the onset of melatonin's effects compared to digestive absorption, which might appeal to those seeking immediate sleep assistance. 3. Are melatonin vapes safe? The safety of melatonin vapes is not well-established. Unlike oral supplements, melatonin vapes are not regulated by the FDA, and there is limited research on the health impacts of inhaling melatonin. Concerns include potential lung irritation and the unknown effects of long-term use. Users should approach these products with caution and consult healthcare providers for advice. 4. Can melatonin vapes become addictive? There is no evidence to suggest that melatonin itself is addictive; however, the habit of vaping, especially as a method for inducing sleep, could potentially lead to psychological dependence. The ease and immediacy of using a vape might encourage frequent use, which can develop into a reliance on the device to initiate sleep. 5. Are there better alternatives to melatonin vapes for improving sleep? Yes, there are many proven and safer methods to improve sleep that don't involve inhaling substances. These include maintaining a consistent sleep schedule, creating a comfortable sleep environment, limiting exposure to screens before bedtime, and using traditional melatonin supplements if needed. These methods focus on improving overall sleep hygiene without the potential risks associated with vaping melatonin. Read the full article

Dreamy Nights
A Guide on How to Support Your Toddler's Healthy Sleep Habits
As parents, we understand the importance of a good night's sleep for our toddlers. Quality sleep is not only essential for their physical health but also for their cognitive and emotional well-being. Establishing healthy sleep habits early on sets the stage for a lifetime of restful nights and vibrant days. In this blog, we'll explore practical tips and strategies on how to support your toddler's healthy sleep habits, creating a bedtime routine that fosters peaceful and dreamy nights.
1. Consistent Bedtime Routine The foundation of healthy sleep habits for toddlers begins with a consistent bedtime routine. Establishing a predictable sequence of activities signals to your little one that it's time to wind down. This may include activities like reading a story, a warm bath, or gentle music. Consistency provides a sense of security, helping toddlers transition from the busyness of the day to the calmness of the night.
2. Regular Physical Activity
Encourage regular physical activity during the day to help expend energy and promote better sleep. Outdoor play and exploration can contribute to a more restful night for your toddler.
3. Be Mindful of Sleep Associations
If your toddler has specific sleep associations, such as being rocked or needing a particular lullaby, try to establish alternative routines that encourage self-soothing. Gradually transition away from associations that may hinder their ability to fall asleep independently.
4. Balanced Diet and Hydration
A well-balanced diet contributes to overall health, including sleep quality. Ensure your toddler receives nutritious meals and snacks including supplements throughout the day. Avoid heavy or sugary foods close to bedtime. Hydration is important, but limit drinks right before bed to minimize nighttime bathroom trips.
DreamEase Kids Sleep Support Gummies are not just a supplement; they are a thoughtful aid in establishing healthy sleep habits for your toddler. By incorporating melatonin, chamomile extract, L-theanine, and vitamin D, these gummies offer a holistic approach to supporting relaxation and a consistent sleep routine.
5. Introduce a Comfort Object
For many toddlers, having a comforting object, like a favorite stuffed animal or blanket, can provide a sense of security and reassurance. Introduce a special comfort object as part of the bedtime routine to create positive associations with sleep.
As we wrap up our exploration on nurturing your toddler's healthy sleep habits, remember that each bedtime is a unique opportunity to create lasting memories and instill a sense of security and routine. By incorporating the tips and strategies shared in this guide, you're not just promoting restful nights for your little one but also fostering a foundation for their overall well-being. May your nights be filled with sweet dreams and your days with the joy that comes from a well-rested, happy toddler. Here's to many more peaceful nights ahead and the boundless adventures that await in the world of parenting. Sleep tight, little dreamers!

Importance of Sleep for Babies
Sleep is an essential component of a baby's healthy development. Babies require significantly more sleep than adults, and it plays a crucial role in their physical, cognitive, and emotional growth. In this article, we will explore the importance of sleep for babies, the ideal sleep patterns, and some tips for ensuring a restful sleep for your little one.
Importance of Sleep for Babies
Promotes Growth and Development
Sleep plays a critical role in a baby's physical development. During sleep, the body releases growth hormones, which aid in cell reproduction and regeneration. This is especially important during the first few months of life, as babies experience rapid physical growth.
In addition, sleep helps to regulate the release of certain hormones, such as cortisol and melatonin, which are essential for healthy development. Lack of sleep can disrupt these hormone levels, leading to potential growth and developmental issues.
Enhances Cognitive Function
Sleep is also vital for a baby's cognitive development. During sleep, the brain processes and consolidates new information, which enhances learning and memory. A well-rested baby is better equipped to absorb and retain new information, which is particularly important during the first year of life when babies are rapidly developing cognitive skills.
On the other hand, a sleep-deprived baby may struggle with memory retention and experience difficulty learning new things.
Strengthens Immune System
Sleep plays an important role in supporting a baby's immune system. During sleep, the body produces cytokines, which are proteins that fight inflammation and infection. These proteins are crucial for building and maintaining a strong immune system, especially in young children who are more susceptible to illnesses.
Furthermore, lack of sleep can weaken the immune system, making a baby more susceptible to infections and illnesses.
Ideal Sleep Patterns for Babies
It's essential to establish healthy sleep patterns from a young age. Here are the ideal sleep patterns for babies at different stages of development:
Newborns (0-3 months)
Newborns require a significant amount of sleep, typically between 14-17 hours per day. However, they don't yet have a fully developed sleep-wake cycle, so they will wake frequently throughout the day and night. It's crucial to allow newborns to sleep when they need it and to establish a consistent sleep environment to encourage restful sleep.
Infants (4-11 months)
Infants require slightly less sleep than newborns, typically between 12-15 hours per day. At this age, babies begin to establish a more regular sleep-wake cycle, and it's essential to encourage healthy sleep habits. This includes establishing a consistent bedtime routine, creating a comfortable sleep environment, and encouraging daytime naps.
Toddlers (1-2 years)
Toddlers require approximately 11-14 hours of sleep per day. At this age, they typically transition from two naps per day to one nap per day, which occurs around 18 months. It's essential to maintain consistent sleep habits and to encourage a calm and comfortable sleep environment.

spare thoughts on dick grayson and nighttime, ma'am?
dick thrives at night, for obvious reasons. he's nightwing, protector of blüdhaven. on the nights where he's just dick grayson, though, that's a different story. he can rationalize not going on patrol for a few reasons. a prior engagement, pursuing leads or an injury. at least he's doing something (or in the case of an injury, he can't do anything) but when he's just at home, doing a whole lot of nothing by choice, he gets restless. he has to keep moving, keep himself busy. he will find something to do and it will not be a leisure activity. that is the last resort. if he has no choice, he'll find a game to play or a movie to watch. he won't exactly hate it, but he isn't enjoying himself, either.
going to bed is even worse. he just won't. not immediately. he'll need something to aid in the process. some tea or melatonin pills. even then, he's fighting sleep like a toddler. he'd much rather be out on patrol fighting, but he'll settle for resisting his body's natural function. when he does end up sleeping quality is a toss up. sometimes he'll just sleep like a log until the morning, other times he's tossing and turning, maybe even waking up a few times throughout the night. it's far from ideal.
dick might as well be a nocturnal creature. getting him to sleep even after a night of patrol can be difficult. he's always hopped up on adrenaline, not ready to give his body a break. unless he's on his deathbed, he's awake. even after stripping out of his suit and taking a shower, that man is wide awake. it drives you crazy because you'd like to cuddle up with him and go back to sleep. you never get used to waking up at the crack of dawn. seeing him sweetened the deal but not by much.
"richard..."
"i'll be in the other room. go back to bed."
you didn't want him in the other room. you wanted him in yours. in the bed. sleeping. not sitting up on the couch, watching tv with a bowl of leftovers in his lap. that usually ended with him knocked out after a couple hours and you with an empty right side of the bed. it was the same when he didn't go out. he'd get up in the middle of the night and leave you in the bed by yourself. you understood, but it didn't make it any less lonely.
there were some nights where he was completely exhausted. his body overworked, more so than usual, a bit banged up. just tired in every sense of the word. you, selfishly, loved those nights because it meant he'd stay put. no tossing and turning, no sneaking out in the middle of the night. just him, snoring softly against the pillow and his heat radiating next to you. you never touched him during these times, giving him the space you assumed he needed. not that it mattered much. you always ended up tangled up in his limbs by morning, anyway.

so you know that post going around about how maybe people have superpowers but they’re so mundane and minor that nobody realizes they exist, like always knowing which watermelon in the store is perfectly ripe or being able to thread a needle in one shot every time? well i know what my mundane superpower is and everyone i know is super mad and jealous about it. why? because my superpower is being able to fall asleep whenever i want. doesn’t matter what time of day or night is, where i am, how loud or bright or cold or hot or even if i’m in pain or sick or whatever. if i want to check out, i’m out. fast asleep. i don’t get insomnia i don’t need to take melatonin or any kind of sleep aids. if i do wake up from a deep sleep i can just go right back to sleep. no tossing and turning from me. i regularly drink coffee late at night, with no negative impact to my sleep. my sister once strong-armed me into drinking a whole can of Monster before bed and again, I slept like a rock. everyone else in my family has sleep problems and they hate me. if my sister drinks a can of soda before bed she’ll be up for hours. if her fiancé wakes up because the cat was making a racket in the hallway, it’ll take him hours to go back to sleep. they both need perfect quiet and darkness to sleep through the night, and they regularly use melatonin and other sleeping pills to combat insomnia. my father similarly struggles to sleep through the night (although I think his problem is largely that he’s a night owl trying to be a morning bird). so i guess it can be kind of jealousy inducing for them to struggle so hard and then see me down two cups of afternoon coffee and then decide to take a refreshing nap on the living room floor with all the lights on and a toddler using me as a springboard and his cartoons blasting in the background. they’ll be up in the morning complaining about the cat banging the bathroom cabinet all night and keeping them awake and i’ll chime in and say that was odd because i slept like a baby the whole night through, and the bathroom is literally right across from my bedroom. which will naturally have them frothing at their mouths. this is kind of turning into a brag-post, but to be fair, my sister also has an unfair mundane superpower that i am incredibly jealous of. she doesn’t advertise this one because it would eliminate one of the handiest excuses to get out of things when you aren’t feeling well, but she literally has never gotten a headache in her whole life. that’s right, not even once. meanwhile i get headaches all the time. at least once a week, basically. and i honestly feel like “being able to sleep under any conditions at will” and “never getting a headache ever” are pretty equal in terms of “mundane superpowers that make people jealous.” i don’t think i would swap with my sister, though, because i honestly love sleeping, and i can take medication for my headaches.

A Taste of Home
A post-Nowish, Mitchsen-centric, drabble prompt from the Master Beta, @tiny-maus-boots. Sorry this took so long, Nerd.
Takes place in some nebulous future after Beca signs with DJ Khaled, puts out an album and goes on tour.
Rating: Teen
Words: 4236

~B~
“Vienna sucks.”
“Beca.” Chloe half chided, half soothed. “You’re just tired, love.”
Beca slumped in the chair at the desk in her hotel suite. “I am not. It’s still fucking freezing here.” She resolutely ignored the fact that she’d just been rubbing her eyes like a toddler. She could clearly see the concern in Chloe’s face over their sometimes fuzzy Skype video chat and she wanted to stop whining but it was just too much effort.
At first being on tour had been fun and amazing, except all her girls had jobs and couldn’t take a nine month sabbatical to travel the globe with her. Still, the excitement of the crowds and the energy had been enough to keep her going, along with the frequent video chats whenever they had time, individually or together. She was home for a week or two every couple of months for R&R, but after the first six months the novelty was wearing a little thin once the concert was over for the night.
Then Theo had starting pushing on her to maybe extend the tour since she was doing so well, add a few more months to the end which would extend it to almost a full year of travel. At first he was subtle about it, but then it became almost daily; if it wasn’t directly after her concerts than it was the following morning when they were getting ready to fly to the next stop.
“How can I help?” Chloe asked gently.
“You can’t.” It came out petulant and she knew it. “You’re more miles away than I care to think about.” Just the memory of Chloe’s arms around her, something she hadn’t felt in a month, was almost enough to bring her to tears. “Theo is being an annoying turtle, no one can make a decision without my input and I just want them to leave me alone so I can rest.” The whine was in full force but she couldn’t stop it; she knew her voice was cracking and the absolute last thing she wanted to do was have a tantrum about being on fucking tour when she knew it was the at least the fourth best thing to happen to her. (The first was Chloe, the second was Staubrey and third was the rest of the Bellas if anyone had cared to ask her.)
“Oh, Becs,” Chloe whispered and reached out to touch her laptop.
Beca flinched and realized that she’d been incorrect before; the absolute last thing she wanted was for Chloe to be sad and not have any way to comfort her. Of course, the fact that she was directly responsible for making Chloe sad made her feel even worse.
‘Jesus Christ, get your shit together,’ she told herself harshly. ‘Boohoo, you’ve got a top ten selling album and people are paying to see you sing every two to three days. Cry me a fucking river.’
She shook her head and forced herself to sit upright. “I’m sorry, Chloe. I’m fine, really.” Chloe’s expression didn’t change and she knew she hadn’t fooled Chloe in the slightest.
“Tell that to the dark circles under your eyes.” Chloe put her elbow on the desk and propped her chin on her hand.
Beca sighed and felt pathetic as she muttered, “Bed’s too bigsmall.” It was the curse of being used to a nine foot bed filled with three other bodies; it was also definitely one of the worst things about being on the road. She’d tried sleeping aids but all they did was make her groggy for a good fifteen hours, no matter how much sleep she’d gotten the night before. She was making do with melatonin but she still tossed and turned. It was getting just that little bit harder to work up the level of energy she needed to maintain for her concert and it wasn’t like she had a full ninety minutes of twirling around a stage like some artists.
‘Seriously, how the hell does P!nk do this shit for over a year?’ Beca wondered for the nth time since she’d left home.
“I know the feeling.” Chloe said softly. “We miss you.”
“I mis-” Beca stopped when there was a soft knock at her door. “God fucking damnit!” She slammed her hand on the desk. “I told them I didn’t want to be disturbed!”
“Beca,” Chloe sat up and leaned forward. “Don’t-”
“No.” Beca said as she glared at the door across the room. “I specifically told Theo I didn’t want to see him tonight. That I needed to get some sleep. He fucking chucked me under the chin and told me ‘You do look a bit knackered. Get some rest.’”
“I know but…” Chloe started with a sigh; Beca had bitched at his audacity at least twice in the hour they’d been talking.
“And… Okay,” Beca kept going, already launched past her tired frustration into actual anger. “Maybe I shouldn’t have yelled ‘what the fuck do you want’ when room service came by –”
“No, you shouldn’t have.” Chloe murmured. She’d been witness to it and forced Beca to call down to the desk to both apologize and ask that she be undisturbed for the rest of the night.
“So…” The knock came again. “Sonofabitch.” She stood up so hard the chair almost tipped over.
“Beca!” Chloe said but Beca was already stalking to the door.
“I said,” Beca snarled as she ripped open the door, “I do not want to be dis-…” She blinked three times, sure she was hallucinating. Maybe even having a stroke or something. Maybe she had brain damage. Because Aubrey could not be standing in front of her. In her hotel. In Vienna. Aubrey was at home. Being an amazing lawyer. With Chloe and Stacie.
Except Aubrey was there. Standing in front of her. Wearing faded and ripped blue jeans, a rumpled t-shirt that looked suspiciously like one stolen from Beca’s closet, a leather jacket, her hair in a ponytail and a gym bag slung over her shoulder. And, Beca’s eyes dropped from where she’d been staring into the tired face smiling gently at her, Beca’s Stitch onesie in her hand.
When Beca stood frozen in the doorway, Aubrey gently nudged her backward until she could step into the room and close the door behind her. The second Aubrey dropped the gym bag Beca’s paralysis broke and she threw herself at the blonde, wrapping her arms around Aubrey’s waist. With a soft oof when Beca collided into her, Aubrey cradled her close and tucked Beca’s head under her chin as she stroked her back. Immediately Beca felt warmer than she had since they had landed in Austria a week ago. Aubrey’s warm body relaxed her but it was nothing compared to the warmth of ‘home’ that Aubrey’s scent brought her.
“Baby.” Aubrey whispered.
Beca lifted her head and found Aubrey’s lips already waiting. The soft kiss soothed the last of Beca’s frayed nerves and she felt almost lightheaded as the tension left her. She parted her lips and Aubrey slipped inside, deepening the connection; reassuring more than building the fire that was always banked between them.
When they broke apart, Beca sighed and rested her ear against Aubrey’s heart, listening to the strong comforting beat. “I’ve missed you.”
“Me too, love.” Aubrey squeezed her again. “Chloe sent me.” Aubrey pressed a kiss to the top of her head. “Stacie sent this.” She jiggled the hand holding the onesie.
“Oh shit!” Beca jerked upright. “Chloe’s on Skype!” She stepped back, taking Aubrey’s free hand and tugged her over to the desk where she found Chloe waiting patiently with a happy smile and a single tear running down her face. Sometime in the last few minutes Stacie had appeared behind her, her chin propped on Chloe’s shoulder. “You guys… I…” She went to sit but Aubrey beat her to it then pulled Beca into her lap. “I can’t believe you guys didn’t tell me.”
“Can’t ruin the surprise, B.” Stacie blew a kiss at her. “Plus Chloe tells me that you might need a lawyer anyway because you’re going to kill some innocent hotel staff person for doing their job.”
Beca winced. “Not one of my finer moments.”
“No.” Chloe agreed but smiled to take the sting from it. “But this is still new and strange and while you’ve come a long way from the ‘I don’t even sing’ girl we met years ago, sometimes…”
“Change and I don’t get along.” Beca sighed as Aubrey rubbed her back. “I still can’t believe you stealth sent Aubrey like a cuddle ninja.”
“And now that she’s there,” Chloe looked past Beca. “You’re gonna put our girl to bed so she can stop being a cranky pants about sleeping alone.”
“To be fair,” Aubrey laughed. “I remember you being disgruntled the last time none of us could stay overnight at one of your competitions.”
“I have no memory of this. You must be super jet-lagged.” Chloe said innocently. She stuck out her tongue when Stacie poked her in the side.
“We’ll talk again tomorrow,” Stacie said. “We’re going to hang up on you now. I’ve gotta get back to work, but I came home to see the big reveal when Aubrey texted us she landed.”
Beca checked the clock. It was almost 9pm in Vienna so it was only 1pm back home. “I love you guys.” She reached out and pressed her fingertips to her screen. “Thank you.”
“Have a good rest of your day, loves.” Aubrey said, her hand resting over Beca’s on the monitor.
“We love you both.” Chloe smiled gently.
“Maybe now that you’re in good hands, you can sleep.” Stacie paused and Beca knew what was coming. “Or not sleep becauseyou’re in good hands.”
“How long did you take to think that up?” Aubrey asked affectionately.
“Just now.” Stacie shrugged. “I’m good with my mouth.”
“You mean with words.” Chloe half turned to look at her.
“That too.” Stacie shrugged and looked back at the monitor. “It’s killing me to do it, but I really am going to disconnect now.” She smiled gently. “You really do need to get some sleep, Beca. Let Aubrey take care of you. I love both of you.”
“I will.” Beca promised, feeling sleep eagerly tugging at her for the first time in what felt like months. ‘Probably since the last time I was home,’ Beca mused.
“Love you too.” Aubrey said just before Stacie hung up.
They sat there a moment more, Beca having turned sideways to cuddle, before Aubrey’s yawn startled them with its suddenness and volume.
“Oh Bree,” Beca reluctantly stood up and offered a hand. “You must be exhausted. It’s like, what, thirteen hours if you’re lucky to get a direct flight?”
“I may have had dad help me with the arrangements.” Aubrey took her hand and rose to her feet and picked up the onesie she’d draped over the chair. “Plus I got a few hours’ sleep on the plane, but… yeah. Sleeping sounds really good about now.” She held out the outfit. “Stacie says you have to sleep in it since you’ve been cold. She doesn’t want to lose any of your important bits to frostbite. She says, and I quote, ‘I’m too fond of her goodies to risk it.’” She pursed her lips. “Personally I think it’s because of that day you told her it made you feel like she was hugging you.”
Touched at her girls’ thoughtfulness, Beca laughed and took it. “Alright. C’mon, bathroom is over here.”
Aubrey followed her, detouring to grab her bag from beside the door. “This is a pretty nice suite they’ve got you in.”
Beca shrugged one shoulder, still not used to having a multi room suite just for herself. “It’s too much for me. I generally just stick to the bedroom or curl up on the couch when they get me these.” The room was nothing compared to the opulent setup that Khaled had had back on the USO tour, but they generally had a separate bedroom and master bath, a sitting room and sometimes a secondary room that was usually set up like an office. “I feel stupid complaining about it… ungrateful maybe.” She rolled her eyes at herself and voiced her earlier thoughts. “‘Oh boohoo and woe is me. I’m quasi famous and people pay to watch me sing.’”
“But you don’t even sing.” Aubrey flashed a smile at her that Beca couldn’t help but return. “But I can see how it could be lonely,” Aubrey offered as they walked into the bedroom where she set her bag down and began unpacking it. “I’m sorry we couldn’t be with you sooner.”
“Sometimes the band comes up.” Beca shrugged as she watched Aubrey pull out clothes that were still somehow neatly folded even though they had come out of a duffle bag. “Theo and a few of the other brass types make an appearance.” She smiled fondly as Aubrey put her clothes in with Beca’s in various drawers. “We haven’t lit the place on fire yet though, so I don’t know if that counts as a rager by your standards.”
“Pfft.” Aubrey said as she folded the bag and set it on top of the dresser before grabbing her toiletry case.
“You want to shower before bed?” Beca asked as they walked into the bathroom where Aubrey whistled at the size of the walk in shower and the whirlpool bath.
“As heavenly as that tub looks,” Aubrey said wistfully, “I think just want to wash my face, brush my teeth and curl up in that small bed with you.” She opened up her case and began to unpack it just as efficiently as she had the duffle, lining her things next to Beca’s.
Beca chuckled. “Aubrey, that’s a queen sized bed.”
“Right. Small.” Aubrey looked at Beca through the mirror and smiled. “Someone’s gotten me used to something bigger.”
Beca shrugged. “Guilty.” She moved over to the counter, setting her designated pj’s on it. “I must be tired because I know I should be turning that into a super dirty innuendo but I don’t have the energy.”
“I’ll say it tomorrow.” Aubrey offered as she began to wash her face. “Stacie would be disappointed in us both if we let it go.”
“You do love me!” Beca joked as she did the same.
“You’re my moon,” Aubrey said simply after she’d rinsed and Beca felt the threat of tears swelling at the back of her eyes.
“You’re our Earth.” Beca stroked Aubrey’s arm, still partially unable to believe she was actually there.
“Sap.” Aubrey sniffed slightly but Beca could clearly see her own emotions reflected back at her.
They finished cleaning up after the long day, brushing their teeth and hair, before changing into their pj’s: Beca in her Stitch onesie, though she left the hood off, and Aubrey in a pair of sleep pants that looked like ones Chloe had worn in college and… Beca laughed when she realized what Aubrey had pulled on. “Is that my Boob Man hoodie?”
“Maybe.” Aubrey turned off the bathroom light and Beca turned on the lamp beside the bed. For Beca’s 24th birthday, post Fourth of July drunken party videos, Stacie had gotten Beca a hoodie that said “I’m A Boob Man.” Aubrey had put her foot down on including a picture of Beca’s hands on her chest even though Stacie had promised to leave out their faces.
“I wondered where that went.” Beca turned off the main overhead light, watching as Aubrey pulled back the covers and crawled into bed with a grateful sigh. “Should’ve known.”
“Probably.” Aubrey settled into the middle of the bed and looked up expectantly. “Well?”
Beca slid into bed and half curled, half sprawled on Aubrey’s left side. “I still can’t believe you’re here.” She wiggled until she found the right spot and Aubrey’s arms closed around her.
“You needed me.” Aubrey shifted and pulled Beca closer.
“As if it were that simple,” Beca said, thinking of all the planning that had to have happened. Even with General Posen’s help it would’ve cost a pretty penny… though, Beca reminded herself, with the tour sales as well as the album still getting decent numbers, money wasn’t something they had to worry about when things like last minute flights came up.
“It was.” Aubrey’s hand gently stroked her back through the fabric. “You needed us. I was able to come.”
“How long did work let you go for?” Beca asked, not wanting to admit how much she wished Aubrey could stay with her the rest of the tour. She lifted her head when Aubrey hesitated and the smallest bit of tension went through the body under her.
“I…” Aubrey took a deep breath. “I quit.”
“What?” Beca pushed herself up. “You what?”
“Quit.” Aubrey reached up and brushed aside the hair that had fallen into Beca’s eyes. “You know I haven’t been happy there since we got back.”
“Yeah but…” Beca trailed off. “Aubrey, please tell me you did not quit because I’m being a big baby over the fact that I am alone on my tour?” Her brows drew together. ‘Jesus I sound like a spoiled brat.’
“I did not quit because you actually are alone on your first tour since none of us have been able to come with you.” Aubrey met her eyes. “Beca, I haven’t…. Oh I don’t know.” She sighed. “It’s… too routine.”
Beca snorted. “I never expected to hear you say something like that. You’re the Posen with the plan.” Aubrey’s brow arched and Beca said quickly, “Which is important because I never have one and sometimes I need to be kept in line.”
Aubrey’s mouth quirked. “Nice save.”
“Thank you.” Beca watched her, worried. “But to quit?”
“You know when I’ve had the most fun doing deals lately?” Aubrey waited and Beca shook her head. “Negotiating your contract with Khaled’s label. Finalizing the details of your tour.”
“You were kind of amazing at it.” Beca mused.
“It was something new, something other than just getting the most out of an artist for your old label.” Aubrey’s eyes had gone distant but now they focused back on Beca. “And I was wondering if you’d… maybe allow me to be your manager full time.”
“Yes.” Beca said without hesitation. She was currently on her fourth – or was it fifth – manager through the agency recommended by Khaled and she already knew the two of them didn’t mesh and it wasn’t going to last. “I would love you to be my manager, Bree. No one else can boss me around like you can.”
Aubrey laughed. “I don’t think that’s exactly the way it’s supposed to work…”
“Fine, you can boss Theo around for me and keep me from calling him Turtle Man when I get pissed at him.” Beca leaned down and kissed her. “But only if you’re sure.”
“There’s obviously going to be some things we’re going to have to figure out, like… do I need some sort of license or to form a company or…” Aubrey trailed off as she yawned so wide her jaw popped. “But we can talk about it tomorrow.”
“I think you just want to be your own boss.” Beca said as she rolled over to turn off the light before snuggling down again. “But I don’t envy you coming up with a company name.”
“BCS Talent.” The reply was so quick it was like she’d known Beca was going to say it.
“Of course you already have a name. You don’t do anything until you’ve covered all the angles.” Beca laughed and lifted her head again to smile down at her.
“Since you’d be my only client, I pondered ‘Mitchsen Talent.’” Aubrey’s eyes twinkled at her. “But I didn’t want to keep answering questions about why I mashed our names together.”
“Because we mash ourselves together as often as possible.” Beca said, kissing her.
“Yes, but I don’t want to tell strangers that. But this way…” Aubrey stroked her fingers through Beca’s hair. “It’s named after what matters most in my life.”
Beca inhaled deeply through her nose. “I hadn’t… I should’ve… put that together.” She inexplicably felt like crying again, touched beyond all measure at how much thought Aubrey had put into it already.
“Stacie took some convincing. Something about the last time she let me go out of her sight and into another country… But she came around. Chloe took less, once I explained why I wanted to do it.” Aubrey tugged a lock of Beca’s hair. “She has never trusted that your managers had your best interests at heart and not just their own.”
“Probably.” Beca said lightly. “I’ll fire Kas tomorrow.”
“Beca!” Aubrey laughed. “We need to talk first.”
“No, we don’t. You’re my manager and that’s final.” Beca put her head back down on Aubrey’s chest, happier than she could’ve dreamed possible.
“Then as your manager, I’m telling you that we’re going to sit down and talk logistics.” She put her hand over Beca’s mouth as she drew in breath to answer. “Tomorrow. After a giant breakfast that’s going to fill the massive table in the other room.”
Beca nodded and Aubrey slowly removed her hand. “Alright. Whatever you say… manager.” She grinned as Aubrey let out an overly exaggerated sigh. “Bree?”
“Yes, Beca?”
“Thank you for coming to Vienna.” Beca felt Aubrey’s hand on her chin and let her head be tilted up until Aubrey’s lips met hers. When they parted again, she said softly, “You’re not a dream, right?”
“I’ve got you, love.” Aubrey said and kissed her again. “I promise I’ll be here when you wake up.”
“I love you, Aubrey.” Beca kissed her one last time, a lazy comforting stroking of tongues and lips.
“I love you too.” Aubrey’s fingers slipped from her jaw to wrap lightly around the arm across her waist.
Far quicker than she’d gone to sleep since the last time she’d been in their arms in The Expanse, Beca felt herself drawn into slumber, the steady beat of Aubrey’s heart matching her own.
~A~
Aubrey woke to gentle kisses. They were placed delicately at the corner of her mouth, along her jaw, her eyebrow and even her closed eyelid once Beca knew she was awake. She sighed in contentment at the weight resting against her side and the hand drawing designs on her stomach.
“You kept your promise.” Beca said before kissing the tip of Aubrey’s nose.
Aubrey smiled but kept her eyes closed. “A Posen-Conrad always keeps their promises.”
“You guys are good at that.”
Aubrey opened her mouth to answer but Beca’s lips covered hers in a kiss far less chaste than the ones they had exchanged the prior evening. She gave out a happy purr as Beca licked down into her mouth, languid but passionate; unhurried but definitely an indication of how the rest of the morning would go and Aubrey felt desire coiling as the rest of her body woke up.
At least until she opened her eyes, intending to wish Beca what was apparently going to be very good morning and found Beca leaning over her, all sleep tousled and warm…
With the Stitch hoodie pulled up over her head.
Aubrey began to laugh.
Beca propped her head on her right hand, watching as Aubrey fell apart every time she took in the blue ears on top of Beca’s head. Aubrey laughed so loud and so long that she snorted, which caused her to giggle even while she was mortified, but then she’d catch sight of Beca’s patiently waiting face, surrounded by blue fuzzy alien, and she’d lose it all over again. When she’d almost exhausted herself, Beca merely pursed her lips when Aubrey took a peek at her and snickered.
“Aubrey.”
“Yes?” Aubrey let out a giggle, keeping her eyes closed.
“Stacie has made love to me in this onesie.” Beca hadn’t stopped tracing designs on Aubrey’s stomach since the first giggle and now she curved her fingers around Aubrey’s hip. “I don’t see what the problem is.” Her tone was nothing but pure amused affection and despite the fact that she just can’t, Aubrey felt herself melt.
“That’s because you guys are aca-pervs.” Aubrey giggled again, high pitched and borderline hysterical at the image that formed and she knew at some point she and Chloe would have to watch them re-enact that. ‘Would you like to be pot, or kettle?’ she mentally asked herself and snorted again.
“Guess you’ll just have to take it off me.” Beca said silkily in her ear and Aubrey’s laughter tapered off into a moan as Beca’s hand moved up to cover her breast.
“Yes please,” Aubrey breathed as her back arched into her lovers touch.
Beca kissed her. “Let me properly thank you for saving the rest of the team from a very cranky artist.”
“I think, and I mean this from the very bottom of my heart, that the pleasure is about to be mine.” Aubrey’s hands slid over Beca until she found the row of buttons on the onesie. “After I get you out of this and naked.”
Beca smiled at her as Aubrey slowly undid them one by one, humming in anticipation with each inch of skin exposed.
“I love Vienna.”

What To Know About Chiropractic Sleep
Originally posted on https://drricardolalama.com/what-to-know-about-chiropractic-sleep/ Chiropractic is popularly known for spinal care and pain management in the neck, back, legs and arms, but what about enhancement of sleep quality? Concerning that, chronic and long-term sleep disorders normally affects about 1.5 million Americans every year and also accounts for an approximate amount of $16 billion in terms of medical costs every year, without even including the indirect costs due to productivity loss and other additional factors. In addition, sleep deprivation may interfere with driving, work, overall quality of life, social activities and also, to a certain degree, the cause of some serious health problems. With more than 80 well- defined sleeping disorders, the insomnia disorder (difficulty falling asleep) is seen to be the most common followed by a disorder known as sleep apnea (an interruption in breathing when sleeping), restless leg syndrome and also narcolepsy.
According to NIH (National Institutes of Health), sleep is considered to be a “neurobiological need”. Actually, the optimum amount of sleep that is needed normally changes with age. Infants usually need 9 to 10 hours at night and 3 or more hours specifically for naps. In the case of toddlers, they need the same 9 hours at night but 2 to 3 hours or less daytime naps. Also, school age children normally do best with 9 to 11 hours and in the case of adults, it is 7 to 8 hours. Failing to establish a sleep cycle or may be when normal circadian rhythm is interrupted, long-term problems may rise. This can actually occur due to the missing of as little as 1 to 2 hours a night of sleep.
Spinal manipulation, chiropractic care, exercise training, relaxation therapy, dietary supplements, acupuncture and massage therapy are all seen to be viable options that help in the efforts of making someone fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and also improve the overall sleep quality. Here are some important recommended lifestyle coaching tips that helps in the facilitation of sleep improvement:
1. Establishing a sleep schedule.
2. Relaxing (maybe reading a novel before bedtime).
3. Having a regular exercise routine
.4. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol and also nicotine!
You have to also know that sleeping aid medications may produce side effects that may be a culprit and also make someone become too sleepy the following day. There are some herbal supplements like Valerian that are available to help give you a better quality of sleep. When taken for about 4 to 6 weeks, it can really help in improving sleep quality and reduce the amount of time it takes you to fall asleep. It is usually combined with other supplements like lemon balm, lavender and skullcap.
Apart from that, melatonin is also another well-known herbal supplement that helps in dealing with insomnia, especially in falling asleep faster and also decreasing any interruptions of the circadian rhythm .The L-Tryptophan amino acid normally converts to 5- HTP and followed by the Serotonin ( brain neurotransmitter) and lastly into melatonin. The other popular forms of recommended therapy include the use of sounding machines and music therapy which can specifically help children and older adults. Exercises like Tai Chi, Yogaor Qigong are considered to be a combination of both exercise and meditation. When these methods are combined with a cognitive- behavioral therapy such as stimulus control and sleep restriction, it helps in giving some improvements when it comes to sleep quality. Using the nasal dilator strips were also identified to be so helpful for people with insomnia disorder and also sleep disordered breathing.
Generally, incorporating spinal hygiene into your lifestyle with quality chiropractic care will help provide better sleep for you. Plus, your spine will love you for it.

When I was 8, I had severe chronic fatigue. I had no energy. After many (many, many) doctor visits, they finally did a blood test that found I had hypothyroidism. It was surprising, because hypothyroidism is usually found in 1) adults and 2) people with a family history of it, but there it was. They put me on medication for it. I was taught how to tell people about it, how to say the name of my prescription and what my dosage was. When I went to sleepovers I had to be sure to pack my meds. My parents would tell their parents, and I would make sure my friends knew too. I went to camp and had to make arrangements to take my meds before breakfast (you had to go to the nurse to take any sort of meds, so I had to schedule to meet her first thing in the morning). Everyone knew I had this. Everyone.
I started having insomnia when I was a literal toddler. No matter how tired I was, I just couldn't sleep. I told my parents. They didn't want to do anything because they didn't want to make me 'dependent' on anything. We tried adjusted bed times, no screen time, teas, you name it. Nothing helped. When I was 15, my dad came downstairs to take me to school and found me sobbing in the living room because I was just so exhausted - I hadn't gotten even a minute of sleep the night before. He finally started letting me take melatonin. The difference was immediate - within days my friends and teachers were commenting that I seemed happier, more attentive. My grades started improving. I told them why - I was finally on sleep aids. My mother lectured me when she found out, telling me I shouldn't be sharing that information. That I needed to be looking for other options besides being dependent on a medication.
I'm twenty-seven. Still on sleep aids. Still have hypothyroidism. Other than the fact that one shows up on a blood test and one doesn't, I never have been able to work out what was supposed to be so different between the two.
Some rando: You should think about stopping your prescription
Me: My pills make me not want to die tho
They: You shouldn’t want to die, that’s not normal
Me: Yeah that’s why I’m taking my pills
#people get incredibly weird about other peoples health choices#and the less they can point to a specific thing causing the issue the worse they get

FIVE SURPRISING REASONS WHY YOU’RE NOT GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP
It’s no secret that American’s aren’t getting enough sleep every night. According to the American Sleep Association nearly 70 million Americans have a sleep disorder. Almost 40% of people have reported falling asleep during the day while at work or school and nearly 5% of people have reported they’ve fallen asleep at the wheel of a car.
Lack of sleep isn’t just dangerous on the road, it can cause a variety of health issues from anxiety and depression to weight gain and indigestion. It’s easy to blame restless nights on a new born baby or busy work schedule, but what about nights where sleep is evasive without an obvious reason?
ARE YOU SURE IT'S NOT SLEEP APNEA?
Sleep apnea is the number one cause of restless nights for people across the world. In fact nearly 1 billion people suffer from sleep apnea. The sleep disorder is often attributed to being overweight but sleep apnea can happen to people of any age and any weight for a variety of reasons. Sleep apnea is a condition that can affect your overall well-being and should be treated by a doctor when diet and exercise interventions don’t lessen symptoms. If it’s not sleep apnea, it could be one of the following reasons:
1. THE FOOD YOU'RE EATING
Diet may not be the most surprising cause of sleepless nights on this list but one of the most common reasons for poor sleep is eating difficult to digest foods, spicy food or acid inducing foods too close to bedtime. Heartburn and indigestion can show up in a variety of ways from back pain to flank pain and aren’t always obviously heartburn. If you suspect your diet may be keeping you up at night, try moving dinner time to at least 3 hours before bedtime.
2. YOUR WORK SCHEDULE
Stress and anxiety are big factors when it comes to interrupted sleep but it’s not always work stress that can keep you tossing and turning. Shift work or an inconsistent work schedule can disrupt your body’s natural sleep rhythm. College students experience similar issues as shift workers from balancing irregular class schedules and work loads. Chances are you can’t help your work schedule, so how can you keep your job and also catch some zzz’s?
Create a healthy bedtime routine. Bedtime routines aren’t just for toddlers. Studies show that having a reliable routine around sleep can help signal the body that it’s time to wind down; even if your bedtime is inconsistent. Try soft lighting before bed, bedtime tea or light yoga and stretching.
3. TOO MUCH EXERCISE
There are hardly many downsides to working out but it may be surprising to learn that working out too close to bedtime can cause restless nights. Intense cardio or anything that gets your heart pumping and your body temperature elevated could delay your bedtime. When the body is ready to rest, our body temperatures drop and that helps signal the brain to get ready for sleep. If your body temperature is too high, it may take a little longer to fall asleep. If you think this may be your problem, move lower intensity workouts to nighttime and try blood pumping workouts earlier in the day.
4. ALL OF THE LIGHTS
Light be another cause that sounds like a no brainer but the light that disrupts our sleep can come from more than just a bedside lamp or computer screen. Human’s are overwhelmed with light pollution so much so that we often don’t notice how bright our lives are. A study of people that lived in urban areas with populations over 500,000 had lower quality of sleep based on their proximity to street lights. Darkness signals our brains that it’s time to sleep, if it’s never dark when does your brain know to turn off?
If your neighborhood is bright at night, try blackout curtains or light blocking shades. Many light blocking products can be purchased inexpensively online. If streetlights aren’t your problem, consider that people that text within an hour of bedtime reported 38% lower quality sleep according to a recent survey. The blue light from our phones can delay sleep signals to the brain. Try nighttime mode on your favorite apps or phone if you can’t resist tapping before sleep.
5. HITTING THE SAUCE
This one may actually be surprising considering that an alcoholic beverage before bed is called a “nightcap” but drinking too much before bed can actually lessen not only the amount of sleep but the quality of sleep too. In fact, consuming more than 3 alcoholic beverages can disturb REM sleep and lead to waking less rested and falling asleep during the day. If your evening libations are disturbing your sleep, try moving your nightcap up a few hours or drinking night time tea to wind down. Please never mix alcohol with sleep medicines, it’s very dangerous.

6 Science-Backed Baby Sleep Strategies
Everything about baby sleep can seem frighteningly high-stakes at 3 A.M. in the morning. Make one tiny mistake in his or her training and your child’s development will be seriously affected: he’ll either end up waking in the night well into his high school years, or worse, develop anxiety, depression, or mood swings. And with every sleep expert offering slightly different advice on the ideal timing and method for sleep training you may be unsure about who to believe, how to proceed, or which sleep training method you should follow. That’s where this article fits in – I’m going to help you separate sleep fact from sleep fiction by zeroing in on 6 science-backed strategies that have been proven to promote healthy sleep habits in babies and young children.
Watch Video Here Solve Baby Sleep Problems
Strategy #1 – Learn to Spot Your Child’s Sleep Cues Like the rest of us, your child has a sleep window of opportunity, a period of time when he is tired, but not too tired. If that window closes before you have a chance to tuck your child into bed, his body will start releasing chemicals to fight the fatigue and it will be much more difficult for you to get him to go to sleep. So how can you tell if your baby is getting sleepy? It’s not as if your one-month-old can tell you what he needs. Here are some sleep cues that your baby is ready to start winding down for a nap or for bedtime: -Your baby is calmer and less active – this is the most obvious cue that your baby is tired and you need to act accordingly. -Your baby may be less tuned-in to his surroundings – his eyes may be less focused and his eyelids may be drooping. -Your baby may be quieter – if your baby tends to babble up a storm during his more social times of the day, you may notice that the chatter dwindles off as he starts to get sleepy. -Your baby may nurse more slowly – instead of sucking away vigorously, your baby will tend to nurse more slowly as he gets sleepy. In fact, if he’s sleepy enough, he may even fall asleep mid-meal. -Your baby may start yawning – if your baby does this, well, that’s a not-so-subtle sign that he’s one sleepy baby. When your baby is very young, you should start his wind-down routine within one to two hours of the time when he first woke up. If you miss his initial sleep cues and start to notice signs of overtiredness – for instance, fussiness, irritability, and eye-rubbing, simply note how long your baby was up this time around and then plan to initiate the wind-down routine about 20 minutes earlier the next time he wakes up. (The great thing about parenting a newborn is that you get lots of opportunities to practice picking up on those sleep cues—like about six or seven times a day!) Learning to read your baby’s own unique sleep cues is the first step to a more rested and more content baby. Here’s something else you need to know about babies’ sleep cues, something that can toss you a major curve ball if you’re caught off guard: Babies tend to go through an extra-fussy period when they reach the six-week mark. The amount of crying that babies do in a day tends to increase noticeably when babies are around six weeks of age. You aren’t doing anything wrong and there isn’t anything wrong with your baby. It’s just a temporary stage that babies go through. If your child becomes overtired, your child is likely to behave in one or more of the following ways (results may vary, depending on his age and personality): -Your child will get a sudden burst of energy at the very time when you think she should be running on empty. -You’ll start seeing “wired” and hyperactive behavior, even if such behavior is totally out of character for your child at other times of the day. -Your toddler or preschooler will become uncooperative or argumentative. -Your child will be whiny or clingy or she’ll just generally fall apart because she simply can’t cope with the lack of sleep any longer. You will probably find that your child has his or her own unique response to being overtired. Some children start to look pale. Some young babies start rooting around for a breast and will latch on to anything within rooting distance, including your face or your arm! When nothing seems to be wrong (he’s fed and clean), but he’s just whining about everything and wants to be held all day, he’s overtired and needs help to get to sleep. Learning to read your baby’s own unique sleep cues is the first step to a more rested and happier baby.

Strategy #2 – Teach Your Baby to Distinguish between Night and Day Because our circadian rhythm (our internal time clock) operates on a 24-hour and 10-minute to 24 hour and 20-minute cycle (everyone’s body clock ticks along at a slightly different rhythm) and all of our rhythms are slightly out of sync with the 24-hour clock on which the planet operates, we have to reset our internal clocks each and every day – otherwise, we’d slowly but surely stay up later and sleep in later each day until we had our cycles way out of whack. Daylight is one of the mechanisms that regulate our biological cycles. Being exposed to darkness at night and daylight first thing in the morning regulates the body’s production of melatonin, a hormone that keeps our bodies’ internal clock in sync to that we feel sleepy and alert at the appropriate times. By exposing your baby to daylight shortly after he wakes up in the morning and keeping his environment brightly lit during his waking hours, you will help his circadian rhythm to cue him to feel sleepy at the right times. Moreover, he’ll start to associate darkness with sleep time and bright light with wake-up time – you’ll find that it works best to take advantage of sunlight (as opposed to artificial light) whenever possible. Studies have shown that exposing your baby to daylight between noon and 4:00 P.M. will increase the odds of your baby getting a good night’s sleep.

Strategy #3 – Let Your Baby Practise Falling Asleep on His Own Some sleep experts recommend that you put your baby to bed in a sleepy-but-awake state whenever possible from the newborn stage onwards so that he can practice some self-soothing behaviors. Others say that you should give your baby at least one opportunity to try to fall asleep on his own each day. Lastly, some others say that there’s no point even bothering to work on these skills until your baby reaches that three-to-four month mark (when your baby’s sleep-wake rhythm begins to mature so that some sleep learning can begin to take place). Sleep experts claim that the sleep-association clock starts ticking at around six weeks. They claim that this is the point at which your baby begins to really tune into his environment as he’s falling asleep. So if he gets used to falling asleep in your arms while your rock him and sing to him, he will want you to rock him and sing to him when he wakes up in the middle of the night – that’s the only way he knows on how to fall asleep. This is because he has developed a sleep association that involves you – you have become a walking, talking sleep aid. Some parents decide that it makes sense to take a middle-of-the-road approach to sleep associations during the early weeks and months of their baby’s life – they decide to make getting sleep the priority for themselves and their babies and to take advantage of any opportunities to start helping their babies to develop healthy sleep habits. Regardless of when you start paying attention to the types of sleep associations your baby may be developing, at some point you will want to consider whether your baby could be starting to associate any of the following habits or behaviors with the process of falling asleep: -Falling asleep during bottle-feeding -Being rocked to sleep -Having you rub or pat his back, sing a lullaby, or otherwise play an active role in helping your baby to fall asleep -Having you in the room until your baby falls asleep -Relying on a pacifier Here’s something important to keep in mind, particularly since we tend to fall into an all-or-nothing trap when we’re dealing with the subject of sleep. You can reduce the strength of any particular sleep association by making sure it is only present some of the time when your baby is falling asleep. If, for example, you nurse your baby to sleep some of the time, rock your baby to sleep some of the time, and try to put your baby to bed just some of the time when he’s sleep but awake, he’ll have a hard time getting hooked on any sleep association. Sleep experts stress that the feeding-sleep association tends to be particularly powerful, so if you can encourage your baby to fall asleep without always needing to be fed to sleep, your baby will have an easier time learning how to soothe himself to sleep when he gets a little older. Most babies are ready to start practicing these skills around the three- to the four-month mark.

Strategy #4 – Make Daytime Sleep a Priority: Children Who Nap Sleep Better Scientific research has shown that babies who nap during the day sleep better and longer at nighttime. While you might think that skipping babies’ daytime naps might make it easier to get them off to bed at evening, babies typically end up being so overtired that they have a very difficult time settling down at bedtime and they don’t sleep particularly well at night. And rather than sleeping in so that they can catch up on the sleep they didn’t get the day before, they tend to start the next day too early and they have a difficult time settling down for their naps, as well. Simply put, it is important to make your child’s daytime sleep a priority, just as you make a point of ensuring that he receives nutritious meals and snacks on a regular basis – your child needs nutritious sleep snacks during the day in addition to his main nighttime sleep meal in order to be at his very best. In addition, babies, toddlers, and preschoolers who nap are generally in a better mood and have an improved attention span as compared to their age-mates who don’t nap.

Strategy #5 – Know When Your Baby No Longer Needs to Be Fed At Night Your baby may continue to wake up in the night out of habit even when he’s outgrown the need for a middle-of-the-night feeding. If your baby is going without that nighttime feeding some of the time or doesn’t seem particularly interested in nursing once he gets up in the night, it might be time to eliminate that nighttime feeding and use non-food methods to soothe him back to sleep. Eventually, of course, you’ll want to encourage him to assume responsibility for soothing himself to sleep, but the first hurdle is to work on breaking that powerful food-sleep association. With some children, it happens quickly. With other children, it’s a much slower process. Once you break that association, he may stop waking as often in the night and may be ready to start working on acquiring some self-soothing skills.

Strategy #6 – Remain as Calm and Relaxed as Possible about the Sleep Issue If you are frustrated and angry when you deal with your child in the night, your child will inevitably pick up your vibes, even if you’re trying hard to hide your feelings. Accepting the fact that some babies take a little longer to learn the sleep ropes and feeling confident that you can solve your child’s sleep problems will make it easier to cope with the middle-of-the-night sleep interruptions. Scientific studies have shown that parents who have realistic expectations about parenthood and who feel confident in their own abilities to handle parenting difficulties find it easier to handle sleep challenges.

4 Ways to Balance Summer Fun and Healthy Sleep
Raise your hand if you’re a mom!
Okay, now raise your other hand if you have more than one child.
I have three kids under 4-years-old, and life can be a little chaotic, to say the least. (Why moms weren’t created with five arms is a mystery to me!)
As a work-from-home mom who thrives on a schedule, I know what a challenge it can be to keep your children’s sleep on track during the summer months—even as a professional sleep consultant.
Let’s be honest: it’s hard enough juggling one kid’s sleep schedule.Throw in another sibling home from daycare or school—plus play dates, swim, lessons, day camps, and other summer fun—and there are going to be days when you just can’t make it home for your kids’ naps.
Today, I’m sharing four ways to find a balance between summer fun and healthy sleep.
4 Ways to Balance Summer Fun and Healthy Sleep
1. Stick to routine
Children THRIVE on routine, so try to keep it in place, even when you’re on the go.
If you need to nap your baby at a new location (in a pack and play or a friend’s crib while at a play date, for example), try to bring along items to keep their routine the same—and portable cribs/Pack-n-Plays are a great way to ensure your child has a safe sleep area regardless of where you’ll be exploring that day! Using Zen Sleepwear™ for all naps and bedtimes will signal to your baby that it is time to sleep regardless of where she is snoozing. (Remember: babies are too young to understand our words, so we need to use sleep cues–such as special clothing– to set them up for slumber time success!) The Zen Bodysuit and Zen Footie™ PJ are great to pack in the diaper bag when heading out!
2. Keep mornings free
If your baby is taking three or four naps, the first two are always the most restorative, so try to book activities for your older kids later in the afternoon. Being on the go during the third and fourth naps won’t be as impactful to your baby’s overall sleep health.
If you have a baby and toddler who still nap, make it a priority to be home for the toddler’s naptime so you can sync both kids’ naps—this will give them and you a nice break!
With older (school-age) children who don’t nap anymore, it’s still important to incorporate ‘quiet time’ in his daily routine–around 1 p.m. Being home for quiet play will allow your child to decompress and give him the steam he needs to push through the afternoon and avoid early evening crankiness.
3. Shut out for some shut eye
During the longer days of summer, the sun shining into your child’s room late at night and first thing in the morning is the perfect recipe for early mornings/late nights. Ensure you make your child’s room dark as possible; this will aid in their melatonin production (the sleep hormone) and will help send the sleep time cue.
4. Drown out the noise
Lastly, using white noise in your children’s rooms will also block out the external noise, such as other kids playing or that dang ice cream truck!
Respecting your child’s sleep needs is not always easy, nor is it often convenient. Structure tends to become more relaxed during the summer months, but embrace it, because this is what summer is all about! And remember, babies are only babies for such a short time. By next summer, their wake times will be much longer.
