Made in Abyss - Manga spine illustration PNGs!

Each volume of Made in Abyss has a different character on the printed copy's spine, and these illustrations can be found on a glossy color page in the manga... save for the first three volumes, which may have been on a separate manga cover?

I've cleaned them up and erased the background elements, just in case you need some cute MiA chibi PNGs!

The first three volumes didn't have a digital version available, so I had to do a bit of smoothing and color correction in Clip Studio Paint. I did my best, yet they're a bit lower quality than the digitals.

So as soon as I saw the Vander reunion scene tbh, I thought of this shot (under the cut) from Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul (which is an absolutely incredible movie btw, but is a continuation of season 1, so don't start with it). I didn't know for certain that Isha was going to die, but I know I wanted to draw this once I saw her fate.

I didn't end up finishing it, though. Just got tired of looking at it. I find most of the characters here look stiff to me because I'm not used to Arcane's art style at all and I got burnt out. But might as well share what I did get done, which is the full sketch, so that's neat I think.

Spoilers for Dawn of the Deep Soul:

This image from the movie is a pre-death dream of Prushka's (the girl in the green dress and hat), being shown as she concludes a heart-felt inner monologue about how she wants her father (who is an absolutely horrible man) to get along with her friends (the kids) and to go on adventures with all of them. I think Jinx wanted something very similar with Vi and Silco, her two worlds. And later Isha and Vander. She would have wanted to keep their family together and to have Silco back and for everything to be wonderful. But alas....

And I think this tragedy was already cemented at the end of season 1. Even when Silco and Vi were the only two clashing over Jinx, they never would have been able to make peace even for her sake. One of them had to die.

I finished Made in Abyss (at least as far as the anime has gotten to) yesterday so I thought I’d doodle some of the characters! I love short-haired Riko, she’s so cute 🥰

Adult Prushka and Irumyuui because you know. They deserved to grow up 🥲

Prushka becomes a Black Whistle based in the 5th layer. She uses the medical knowledge she learned from Bondrewd to try and reverse the 6th layer curse, healing the narehate.

Irumyuui becomes an explorer of the Golden City, together with the rest of the Ganja Corps who somehow managed to evade all the dangers and got to the very bottom of the Abyss.

Made In Abyss | Riko, Reg, Nanachi, Meinya, Prushka

⚠️⚠️SPOILERS- Don't look too closely at this illustration if you haven't seen the first season and movie of made in abyss.⚠️⚠️

Made in abyss illustration I made. I mainly worked on this during lectures when they were going over content I already knew ✨

I wanted to take a stab at doing the whole grayscale painting thing before adding colours for once. I think this was a pretty metal way to test that technique out 💀. complicated ass drawing right here

The problem I had with doing the colour layer is that it took a while for me to find something that would look like the right colour. Most colours were fine, but browns were really annoying in particular (they often showed up as bright oranges xd). It also took some finagling to make the shading look good (as in not shaded by pure black), but i got the hang of it. Honestly it was pretty fun using different colours to make the shading look better 😌

I basically painted everything on a single layer (it was divided between foreground (all the characters) and the background sections). yeah, I prolly could have done it in a much more efficient manner, but I had fun so it don't matter.

Really like how it turned out overall (they're so cute but the story is so fucked up it's all so fucked up) and the plan is to make posters out of this bad boy >:)))

While entertaining myself with a late-night fixed-watch of Made in Abyss season two [it's my first time watching it and I AM FULL OF EXCITABLE NEEDLES ABOUT IT. MEANING I LOVE IT.] I must've completely misunderstood what they were tryna show with the two different character-adventures eg Riko Reg and Nanachi and then Vueko and her group thinking they were all in the SAME year/time...then when Riko came upon poor Vueko amidst all the sloggy sluggy things my first thought was [after ''Oooo! character with personality appealing to my fixations!''] ''whomever this [appealing] character is she looks a lot like the other smaller eyebag girl from the new gang? MAYBE SHE'S GONNA TURN OUTO BE HER MOTHER? OR OLDER SISTER?

Then a bafflingly obvious understanding dawned on me. That they were the SAME person only this one was older now. And the apparent passing of time in abundance had COMPLETELY scuttled past my already blotchy awareness. Oh well, i can;t claim the discovery of them being one and the same character was dissapointing iny way. Vueko is now my favourite along with plump little Meinya and becoming quite a treacly-indulgent obsession.
