Found an old fic wip. Where there's some kind of big reception at the Phantomhive estate (maybe for Christmas, maybe because they were trying to lure out a suspect. Idk, past me was sure I'll remember).

And in the middle of it for supernatural reasons Sebastian is slowly loosing grasp on his human disguise. It starts standart with eyeglow and sharp teeth. Then progresses to extra eyes on his face or neck. Then it starts getting freaky (aka extra limbs, gaping snake like maw etc). He is also has this flashes of not quiet being in control of himself mentally. So after each episode he will will any changes away but it slowly gets more and more out of hand.

Which is not good, considering the whole manor is pact full of very important and very mortal people.

The bastard is too prideful to show that anything is wrong to Ciel (but also it's not like he can shoo the whole party away. That would greatly damage the earl's reputation. So what's the point?) . You know who notices? Servants that are right there and can see the whole thing even if he is doing his best to hide it. They already kinda know that he isn't a normal human. So Baldroy just goes:

"yeah, that's weird. But we are working with human snake hybrid and child human experiment. We figured that the immortal twink that never talks about his past is freaky too"

And then they all work together in insuring that the event goes smoothly. Why keeping seb from the public and trying to keep him in check.

Idk. Maybe I'll be brave and finish it. Or maybe this plot bunny wip is entertaining solely to me and me alone.

But imagine Kendo, Pony and Ibara were dragging you to their lunch table, only to be intercepted by Ochako, Momo and Hagakure, who are there to take you to their table. They politely argue for a minute before they watch you get ambushed by a pink haired girl who goes a mile a minute and starts dragging you to her workshop. You don’t even look bothered, smiling and laughing, waving goodbye to your classmates.

Kendo and Momo are the ones who decide they need to work together after they see Hatsume holding you, and how comfortable you are with her.

Huh, now I’m imagining you and Hatsume Mei grew up together and that’s why you are so comfortable with all of this. You are used to her forgetting the rest of the world exists for a while, so you don’t mind her forgetting about you for a bit. You’ve always been friends.

Mei doesn’t understand why she felt so upset seeing you with those girls. She never really understood her emotions, or why she “accidentally” gave one of her more explosive inventions to someone who worked with you on a project when she was sick back when you were kids.

She just knew you were the one who helped her when she forgot to eat or drink. You were the one who reminded her of things she forgot. You were her inspiration, her muse when the gears in her mind grew rusty.

You couldn’t leave her.

Please don’t leave her.

Ch 212: That Butler, Going South

Basically, the chapter covers Sebastian and Ciel traveling by train to Brighton, discussing the servants’ missions as Ciel enjoys breakfast in the dining car.

(Remember that all the missions are happening simultaneously more or less, so Ciel doesn’t know how successful or not they all were.)

It’s actually quite brilliant of Yana and her team to time things like this. This chapter is a great way for fans who may have lapsed during the servant arcs to catch up again, or even for new fans lured in by the anime to get a taste of the manga.

It’s also interesting to see a how a some of the scenes mirror panels/moments from previous arcs.

For example, the shot of Sebastian and Ciel on the train together is akin to the end of the circus arc. (And admire how much her art has improved!)

Later, we get a (shocking, to me, anyway) shot of Sebastian sitting at the table with Ciel as equals, reminiscent of when they ironed out the details of the contract.

The chapter begins with the two of them on the train in their first class compartment, en route to Brighton from Reading.

Sebastian, ever the conscientious butler, notices the time and mentions breakfast, but Ciel is cautious: they’re fugitives, after all. Sebastian points out that most people wouldn’t expect a criminal to be casually taking a meal in the dining car. Seeing his point (and since Ciel is driven by his stomach lol), they go to have breakfast together.

They then discuss the servants’ missions and what they expect. For example, Ciel brings up the point that Lau can only be trusted so far, and he is the one who first brought their attention to the whole mess back in the Campania arc with Karstein Hospital. And he is a mafia boss.

But, both of them acknowledge that Bard is the smartest and most capable of the four servants (Bard, Mey, Finny, Snake), and that he managed to make it to the UK all the way from America alone. Plus, he’s trustworthy. Ciel points out that’s precisely why he paired them up. (Seeing them compliment my man 😭😭… Take that, Bard haters!)

They also discuss the mission Ran Mao and Mey are undergoing and ofc Snake and Finny. (I’m sorry but I’m tired and I don’t care as much about the other servants as Bard so I’m… not going into detail on their pages. Maybe tomorrow if I have time and spoons I’ll make an add-on to this going over those pages.)

This panel is one of my fave moments in the chapter… it translates more or less like this:

Mey: For our lord

Bard: With pride

Snake: With my life on the line

Finny: I do the assigned work and see it through to the end

Despite initially being wary of leaving their compartment, when Sebastian suggests they leave the dining car, Ciel wants to stay and stretch his legs. It’s only a few hours to Brighton by train.

Looks like next week we’ll start the arc in earnest and maybe learn how they plan to infiltrate the hotel.
