Hello!

You know something I'd like to see in "Brothership" but that would be heartbreaking?

Conflict

I mean, we know these two love each other so much, but they're still brothers. And if the whole theme of the game revolves around their brothership, then it should be put to the test at some point. At least in order to make the player believe that these two would fight and separate by their own choice. Not "separate" like when they arrive at the ship separately, but "separate" because they are fighting about something, and the villain manipulated the situation to keep it that way because he knows that it is their brothership that would ruin his plans.

The issue with that is I can't really think of a situation where they would believably go their separate ways. Not in the Mario & Luigi RPG canon. They've already gone through like... five major adventures where they were the ultimate, inseparable team through thick and thin. To get them to willingly split over a fight, even one orchestrated by outside forces, would take a wild set of misunderstandings.

However... a meataphysical threat that divides them? A villain directly altering the mind of one of the brothers in order to ruin their bond because he knows what an effective threat they are as a team?

That I can get behind. Mario is long overdue for a brainwashing anyways.

A question. It's pretty much a given that Mario knows that Luigi had to at least fight King Boo to rescue him. But, personally, I don't think Luigi gave details of everything he had to do on the occasions that King Boo caught Mario. Not only the dangers, like the traps that almost killed him or the ghosts that wanted to hurt him, but also the puzzles he had to solve, the mazes he had to go through, or the ghosts he developed a friendship with (Polterpup, Morty).

So, the question is, how do you think would the Marios react to seeing all that GameLuigi had to do over 3 games to rescue him?

Well first up Game Mario would call his Luigi over and hug him super tight and tell him how proud he is of him. No ghost king can ever stop him 💖

Paper Mario: Pats Game Luigi on the head. He is proud too ❤️ (he's met this Mario and Luigi before in Paper Jam)

1993 Mario: Can't help but think what his Luigi would do if he had to fight a ghost king (another weird concept to him). He promises to ask his Luigi NOT to accept any invitations to mansions, and let him deal with any ghosts who try to harass them!

Supershow Mario: Thinks this King Boo is a screwed up meatball, and will make sure to defend his Luigi if any ghost monarch tries to hurt them!

Movie Mario: A giant turtle monster, and an ape with a very insecure ego was already enough for him. But the idea that there is a chance that another enemy, this King Boo, will try to hurt them, that his Luigi will be pulled into that...They can't do anything about it until when and IF it comes...But he knows his Luigi has his back always. He defended him from fire with a manhole cover! He has an unshakable trust in him. If Game Luigi showed the same love and devotion for his Mario, that Luigi has for him, they will be ok ❤️💚

2. Learning more about my culture and people. I love who I am and my ethnicity/race (Mexican/Native American) . So, when I learn about my people's history, Mexico, and just gain more knowledge about it, ofc, makes me happy. Especially if it's my family's own history and traditions that have been passed down.

3. Kind of mentioned before, but dragons, for sure, make me happy. I love dragons. They are so powerful and beautiful. This is a dragon appreciation blog.

Especially love what the dragons of Daenerys Stormborn represent in Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice And Fire - freedom.

4. My current fandoms/fixations - in this case the Mario franchise, specifically Mario and Luigi. I just love their bond so much!! I am so soft for them. They have such a healthy and strong brotherly love. I love it so much 😊❤💚 I will never be over the forehead touch 🥺❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚❤💚

Ok, headcanons about the brothers' birthday...

I think that during their childhood the family would throw them themed parties depending on their interest that year. Popular children's show, movie, video game. And both brothers would wait because maybe they weren't big parties, and the decorations would be simple but they would make sure that the food looked like their favorite characters.

I think they only once tried to throw them a surprise party and failed miserably because the brothers are playful and curious and would insist on helping all the time. Mario would put together a decoration that Luigi liked, and Luigi would help his mom prepare Mario's favorite food. Also, with such a noisy family, it's impossible to keep a secret, especially if they ask Uncle Tony and Uncle Arthur for help.

I think in their teens they would make sure to get a gift for the other. At the beginning, crafts were made, and over time they probably speak to their parents separately, telling them that they didn't want a party and that they would help out where they could in exchange for an allowance to buy their brother's gift. They both know what the other is doing, but feign ignorance, but are genuinely surprised by the gift.

I also think that at least once they went to a restaurant. Maybe they went to one of those places where they do children's parties, like in FNAF but without the scary part... Luigi got scared anyway and Mario tried to fight an animatronic. On another occasion they went to an Italian restaurant. Currently they are going to eat at their favorite pizzeria where they have their special pizza, with half without mushrooms.

Maybe on one occasion they had a party in a park (like the one in Luigi's memory)

I think costume parties are left exclusively for Halloween, where they make sure to have cute outfits to match and eat lots of sugar.

I like to imagine as teens they went to more interesting places like the aquarium, a theme park etc. Or even a funfair that had rolled into the city! And they would gorge on cotton candy and hot doughnuts, and hotdogs until they get stomach aches and are scolded later 😆

Oh, and they go on the Twister ride, both Bros holding each other's hand and both screaming and laughing ^^

This scene makes me so happy. After all the garbage Mario and Luigi have been through they deserve power trip like this. What's even more cathartic is that they get to do this beatdown together after being separated– and desperately missing each other –for most of the movie. The team is back together!

You can get the little flavors of their fighting styles whenever they drift in different directions. Mario is more in-your-face, staying in close proximity to Bowser and initiating most of the blows. Luigi, despite being powered up, prefers to use long distance/opportunistic attacks. Caution is his nature, even when he's literally invincible.

Mario climbs up Bowser’s shell and body slams him using his horn. Luigi sees Bowser tumbling toward him, and uses the opportunity to lay a blow that sends Bowser flying into the side of a building. 

While Bowers is still reeling, Luigi regains his distance by leaping off a mushroom and taking to the air. Mario, however, stands firm, receiving a fruitless blow head-on before delivering a few uppercuts to Bowser's face. 

While Mario has Bowser's attention, Luigi comes up from behind and throws a giant inactive question block at Bowser's head. I don’t know why this is so funny to me. It’s the way he does it... it’s just...  DONK! right on the noggin.

The force of the impact knocks Bowser to the ground. He would’ve rolled further away if Mario hadn’t stopped him with his foot like a soccer ball. Absolute power move. He's like “Not so fast, we’re not done with you yet”

Luigi lands a short distance away, but in a split second he and his brother have the same idea, and they're back in sync.

SO LONG GAY BOWSER

I know it's been said, but look at their faces when they prepare their final attack! Luigi looks focused and determined, but Mario looks straight up ready to kill. He is pissed. Also! it was pointed out by @megandog21 that both of Mario's fists are clenched, while Luigi holds out one open hand as if ready to defend against a blow. Sword and shield, baby!

It's nuts to me how Bowser was still standing and in relatively good spirits after receiving a hit with enough force behind it to put a sizable crack in his ship! And after receiving the double rider kick that was powerful enough to set off a shockwave that shattered the front half of his flying fortress, he's still conscious!? JESUS CHRIST. No wonder he's King of The Koopas.

Mario & Luigi Teamwork

The synchronization between these two is immaculate???? Like look at them goooo, look at how in sync they are throughout this fight and the fight with Bowser’s army too. They are a two person army, they are a force to be reckoned with.

They are one unite working in perfect harmony and it’s all because they are working together as a team and as family.

Oh...pokemon team headcanon 👀

Well, I have these ideas:

Mario: Plusle, Arcanine (I think it's ideal for him), Camerupt, Pyroar (a fire type lion for the representative of bravery), Nidoking and Oricorio

Luigi: Minun, Boltund (I love imagining Luigi raising a Yamper...and surrounded by dog pokemon), Manectric, Rotom (a pokemon that is electric and ghost based, but depending on the appliance it has, it is still electric but also of another type, and also in reference to Luigi's mechanical abilities...I mean, Rotom can become a vacuum, so...), Greavard (because, how not to give him a ghost dog) and, here I was debating whether to give him an Oricorio to pair him with Mario, or a Decidueye because of "M+R: Sparks of Hope" (archery).

(Oricorio, in addition to flying, can be a psychic, fire, electric and ghost type, so I think it's a good option for the twins)

Peach: Jigglypuff, Alcremie and Fidough (for her baking skills), Gardevoir, Shiinotic (of course) and Breloom (of course)

Daisy: Flores (orange or yellow), Medicham, Mienshao, Sigilyph, Maractus (Desert flower) and I still can't decide between a Cacnea or Claydol or Exploud

My two favorite game sagas, I swear

Oh wow you've made some pretty good teams 👀 I pretty much agree with all the choices.

Mario's team: Plusle is a cute partner. Arcanine and Pyroar represent the strong, fiery protectiveness Mario possesses. Nidoking is strong.

(you'll have to explain to me about Oricorio. I like it, but I am not sure if it's a Pokémon that suits Mario - given it's a Pokémon about dancing and Mario doesn't really do that...)

Luigi's team: Minun, Rotom, Manectric, and Greavard just fit so well. Boltund is genius (because Yamper is a good boy, and Boltund is an even stronger good boy). I think Decidueye would be a great choice!

(I personally would like him to also have Nidoqueen, to match Mario's Nidoking. If I had to pick which Pokémon to substitute out, it would be Manectric)

Peach's team: Nothing else to add. It's perfect 👍

Daisy's team: Absolutely love this team! Great mix of representation for Sarasaland and Daisy's namesake. For the final Pokémon, I would pick Exploud. A normal type would allow for even more diversity and strategy in her team.

I don't know much about "His Dark Materials", but what you have published has caught my attention (the most familiar I am is with the movie The Golden Compass).

I understand that some cultures and theories say that twins "share a soul" from the moment of conception.

Under that logic, is it possible for the brothers to share a daemon?

Sorry if it's a silly question. By the way, I love what you write.

I'll be honest, discussing "His Dark Materials" with anyone who is not that aware of it is difficult, mostly because of the sensitive topics brought up in the series that some people (understandably) can find too uncomfortable to talk about.

Yes, there are biblical name drops and references throughout the series, talks about Sin, and even a religious group that rules a world and are essentially the bad guys.

But I swear, under all that is a truly great story!

(I'll be honest, I believe a lot of the controversial stuff is mostly the result of the author ranting about his own biased opinions)

I would like nothing more than to explain these books in greater detail - for those who may have not got what some things meant the first time round, or just simply misunderstood them. I want to help people understand that there is more to this series than just "religion is evil", and not demonic literature.

But to do so would mean spoiling a lot of the series, which I don't really want to do, and would prefer to encourage others to check out the series first if they can.

But if anyone is interested (and doesn't mind spoilers), my inbox is open! I'm always happy to answer questions and talk.

Even my own opinions about this series have changed over the years. I admit, I was mostly blown away the first time as a young teen, simply because it wasn't like anything else I was reading at the time. Everything else was so grounded in reality - THIS, to me at least, opened up so many ideas and concepts. It was a lot to take in!

Anyway, apologies for getting a little off topic there! As for your question about the Bros: I've never heard about that cultural idea about twins being born with one soul. That is fascinating! Is it talking about just identical twins, or both identical and fraternal? Because it sounds like something more likely to do with identical twins than fraternal (given that the former starts off as one being that splits in the womb - whereas the latter doesn't).

I really don't know if Philip Pullman himself (author of HDM) ever addressed this, and I don't recall any twin characters in the books.

I will have to say that no, I don't think twins (or the Bros) would share a dæmon, as they are essentially separate people. And plus since dæmons can't be far apart from their humans, it would be a fine thing if, say, one twin had to go somewhere further away from the other and their dæmon couldn't stay near both at the same time! But, I would like to believe that twins with dæmons are more intertwined. Like I said with the Bros, as twins, their souls are spiritually linked and they can sense each other. I imagine that twins could (to some extent) feel each other's dæmons, and even communicate with the other's and not just their own.

Could they be able to touch each other's? Well considering the influence of the taboo, I would say no. But let's just say, that maybe some twins worked out a way in secret!

And in the AU, Mario and Luigi are just that unique 😉

Ultra-Angst Challenge

Not only does Luigi trigger this ability by accident in the heat of the moment, but imagine prior to this, he hadn't retained his memories as Mr. L and Mario, who wants to save his little brother the guilt for something that was not his fault, never told him the full story.

And then the minute Luigi snaps his fingers, it all comes rushing in.

Oof.

So I was thinking about Luigi while commuting to this job site (which I, an older adult professional, have a habit of doing practically every day). And specifically, I was thinking about the whole Chaos Heart-Luigi-Dimentio merge wherein I am very much of the mind that the whole "soup" of Super Dimentio left Luigi with both a bit of the Chaos Heart and Dimentio within him.

I was also thinking about Luigi's penchant for magic and dimensions and how the presence of Dimentio's magic in his person (small as it might be) might amplify these tendencies. How Luigi might, with some effort, be able to conjure a dimensional door or a part of another plane or a...

Well. Imagine this. Mario and Luigi are fighting some big bad and Mario's cornered and it doesn't look good. Imagine Luigi freaking out and tapping into that latent piece of Dimentio hiding inside him.

Imagine, if you would, dear reader, the look of abject horror that crosses Mario's features when Luigi summons a very familiar, translucent box with a snap of his fingers.
