This is a high school AU fluff romp with lots of dialogue and teen hijinx. Dave's rambling is as funny (and embarrassing) as ever, and the idea of Rose "fixing" Dave's raps is wildly hilarious to me, like she just goes in with a heavy sigh and a red pen and starts crossing words out and making notes in the margins while Dave squirms.

In this, Karkat has only recently come out to everyone, and Dave's constant internal monologue and verbal slips regarding that revelation are incredible, especially knowing the context of Dave not exactly being straight himself. There's this kind of wonder he has at Karkat just being able to exist like that like it's no big deal when Dave can't even handle it secondhand that comes across very well.

Their teasing and general back and forth is uhhhhhhhh what I live for, I love the details Dave observes about how Karkat can swear so eloquently online but in person he's just slightly less fluent with his performance.

I love Karkat in this so much, the way he recounts his family's reactions is perfect and the way he handles Dave going on about "gay" as a pejorative is, too -- and feels very true to the canon conversation where that came up even as an AU.

"You thought I was straight? What an idiot" is such a goddamn mood. Especially considering the next scene, Dave please. (Yes, everyone is gay.)

I love Rose and also the little detail about John losing his mind when he found out his dad wasn't actually a street busker lmao.

The half-fake-but-not-really date they have is absolutely adorable, I love the way you've written them with their separate strengths here that compliment each other, when one gets nervous the other one steps in and vice versa.

Laugh my ass off at the "should" monologue, highly relatable content.

I really like this glimpse of them this early on not just in a relationship but with their feelings in general, you really get the sense that they both have considered this before but hadn't progressed to all out pining, it's a different take than I usually see and pretty fun to watch. I love how their teasing keeps up to the end, their chemistry in this is spot on, and I love Dave's cavalier attitude about himself at the end too, the last line is such a good driver for that tone.

last night before bed i read this adorable gamdave blackrom (yeah, you read that right) and subsequently spent my whole morning at work spinning meteorstuck au concepts and sorting the crew into fun combinations of rare ships in every quadrant, simultaneously delighting in the possibilities and bemoaning the fact that there isnt more fic to be found exploring them (and mentally editing my drone season signup accordingly)

and then i read the latest chapter of this wonderful davekat fic by @megalaurasaurasrex on my way home and was absolutely thrilled, it has so much of what i love and long for in meteorstuck stories--a true ensemble cast, a complicated web of relationships and interactions among them, messy multiquadrant xenoromance--and its very different from the ideas id been dreaming all morning, but it gives me the same kind of feeling

theres such a vast space of possibility to explore and invent in the gaps of canon. i know a lot of people hate the way homestuck skipped or skimmed over huge chunks of time, but i love what can come of leaving so much to fans imaginations, i love the sheer creative variety of answers we can come up with for the questions that canon left open.

Why I Created This Account: I’d been thinking for a while that it would be good to have an account that was just me, instead of having a fandom blog as my main- the main on my other account is an X-Files blog, @keepingtrackoflosttime, which has been pretty inactive for a long time.
