Luke Perry's Daughter Honors Her Late Father's 90210 Costar Shannen Doherty in Touching Tribute

The actress died on July 13 after a years-long battle with cancer, while Perry died in March 2019 after suffering a "massive" stroke

Luke Perry's daughter Sophie paid tribute to her father's Beverly Hills, 90210 costar Shannen Doherty in the hours after her death.

On Sunday, July 14, the 24-year-old shared a black-and-white photo of Perry, who died in 2019, and Doherty, who died on July 13.

In the shot, her dad held on to a pearl necklace that Doherty was wearing between his teeth, as the actors both smiled.

Sophie added a "🤍" to the sweet tribute.

Following the news of Doherty's death after a years-long battle with cancer, which her longtime publicist Leslie Sloane confirmed to PEOPLE on Sunday, 90210 fans have been mourning her loss while also paying tribute to Perry, who played the love interest, Dylan, to her character Brenda on the series.

One fan wrote in a post on X, "So sad to hear about Shannen Doherty. She was an amazing actress and bravely fought her cancer. Prue will be an iconic character from Charmed for me. May she rest in peace. Say hi to Luke for us."

Perry was 52 when he died five years ago, and had suffered a "massive" stroke days before. A source told PEOPLE at the time that he never regained consciousness after the stroke, and he remained "under observation" for five days prior to his death.

"He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends," his rep said at the time. "The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning."

Doherty told PEOPLE she was "heartbroken" and "devastated" at Perry's loss as she reflected on their enduring friendship – and how they reconnected when she shared her breast cancer diagnosis in 2015.

“Luke was a smart, quiet, humble and complex man with a heart of gold and never-ending well of integrity and love. Luke reached out to me during my cancer journey and we picked right back up, albeit older and wiser, but that connection remained in tact."

“There is a special kind of love one has for each other when you are experiencing the journey we did on 90210 and of course life in general. Luke and I were working on show ideas for us. We wanted to work with each other again and create something special and meaningful for our fans at this stage in our lives,” she continued. “I will miss him everyday. Every minute. Every second.”

She also shared that her former costar "loved his family" more than anything, and "raved about his kids and how proud he was of them."

Doherty made a cameo on Riverdale following Perry's sudden death, as she said Perry had been "trying to get [her] on the show" since he'd joined it. She played a character whose life was saved by Perry's Fred Andrews in the episode, and said on Instagram she was "deeply honored to pay tribute" to Perry in the episode.

In February, during an appearance at MegaCon Orlando, Doherty got emotional on stage as she recalled how "shocking" it was to learn of his death.

"I have a very visceral reaction whenever someone brings up Luke because as someone with cancer – and a really horrible cancer at stage 4 – I thought I would be the first to go. So when it was Luke, it really just sent me for a tailspin."

I have been to a total of 4 conventions throughout my life, all of them being Megacon. My first time going to Megacon was back in 2015 with my family. I was around 10 years old at the time, and the whole reason why we went was for my older sister, who was 15 years old at the time. My sister has always been into anime for as long as I can remember. She would watch Attack on Titan, Death Note, and Tokyo Goul in our living room, and so I would just end up watching with her. I don't think I knew what was going on the entire day we went because I was so young and couldn't grasp what was happening. I was literally just there because I couldn't stay home alone. The only memory I really have was my sister freaking out at this couple who was cosplaying Levi and Petra. My sister wore her Survey Corps jacket, and my 10-year-old chubby self wore a not-so-flattering Spongebob shirt for some reason.

My next convention was about a year after my first convention experience. It was 2016, and my sister, my dad, my sister's friends, and I went to Megacon again. I definitely have more memories associated with this one. My sister cosplayed Sasha Braus from Attack on Titan, and her friends also cosplayed. I of course didn't, but I luckily wasn't wearing my stupid Spongebob shirt this time, so that's a win. At this point, I was watching Attack on Titan a lot with my sister and was slowly becoming a fan of the show. So seeing cosplayers was really cool because I could finally recognize them and get the hype of the whole convention. I still don't have too many memories of the convention itself, but I do remember eating crappy pizza with my father.

After our 2016 Megacon, my sister and I took a break from conventions for a decent amount of time. During this gap, I didn't really watch too much anime on my own. However, like many, during the 2020 pandemic, I had a lot of free time and boredom, so I ended up getting back into watching anime. I got REALLY into My Hero Academia for some reason. Not even joking when I say I consumed every form of MHA media at the time. And this love for MHA lasted for around a year and a half. So in 2021, around 5 years after our last Megacon trip, my sister and I went back to Megacon. This convention experience definitely was the most memorable, as I was much older (16) and was DEEP into my anime phase. My MHA "obsession" rubbed off on my sister a little, and she ended up really liking the character Jiro, so that's who she ended up cosplaying. I guess MHA was popular at the time we went because everywhere I turned I saw an MHA cosplayer, and there was a whole mob of them too. So of course I was having a blast. During this time I also loved buying and collecting figures or any kind of anime merch, so I was tweaking out the entire time. There was a fashion show where a bunch of cosplayers walked on stage, and I remember that being so entertaining. I think at one point we saw Chester Cheetah. Though I lowkey cringe now looking back, I did have a great time with my sister and reminisce about this time in my life. 

Flash forward to the beginning of 2024, and I found myself going to Megacon again with my sister and friend. At this point, I have grown out of my heavy anime phase and barely watch it anymore. My friend reads manga and watches a couple of animes, such as Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen, so I hear updates from them. Other than that, I just don't have the energy or desire to. My sister and friend both cosplayed and of course, I didn't once again. My sister cosplayed Shoko Leiri from JJK, and my friend cosplayed Angel Devil from Chainsaw Man. This convention was fun, but I definitely can feel myself falling out of the whole convention thing. It was so unbelievably crowded and hot. I felt claustrophobic the entire time. There were, of course, fun moments still. For example, we went to a Q&A session with the dub voice actor for Yuji Itadori and he was pretty cool. We found a chainsaw man get-together, and my friend got to take pictures with other cosplayers. My sister loved Balders Gate and got to meet Neil Newbon and take a picture with him. And as for me, I bought some Garfield stuff to add to my collection because that's basically what I am a fan of now. I just remember how destroyed all of us were at the end of that day; it felt like we fought in a war. My mom also took ten years to pick us up because of the traffic and confusing layout of the place. I do not have many pictures from this day, as I was dying throughout most of it. 

Overall, over the years, my convention experience changed as I've gotten older. Each was a unique experience and had its own highlights. My favorite part of each year was seeing elaborate cosplays regardless if I knew where the character was from. It is cool seeing so many people from different fandoms come together for this massive event. I don't know if I'll go to Megacon again in the future, but if I do, I'm sure I'll find a way to have fun.

Hey! I'm Alissa and I've been cosplaying at conventions in Florida since 2015. I've always been fascinated with the Spiderman comics and films, but felt they were missing a strong female character that I could relate to. Don't get me wrong, Mary Jane is great, but when Gwen was reinvented in 2014, I was instantly smitten - the concept, her costume design, personality... She was just the superhero I'd been waiting for, and I was planning that cosplay for years until I felt I could do the character justice. Took me until 2019, and now I can't stop! There are so many fun versions of her to bring to life.

I first cosplayed her at Megacon 2019 and was so happy to see little girls come up to me that recognized who I was and were excited to see her! Since Into the Spiderverse and Marvel Rising, Spider-Gwen is finally recognized by a wider audience, and getting the attention she deserves. I love that young girls have such a strong female lead that they can be inspired by.

I was even part of a little girl's birthday party, where she specifically asked for Gwen to be there and dressed up to match! That was really sweet and one of my favorite memories in that cosplay. 

It honestly brings me so much joy! I've always spent extra time planning and working on my costumes for Halloween or other events, so once I discovered comic conventions, I was hooked. It's such a great creative outlet!

It combines my love of design, drawing, painting, sewing, and crafting. It's also allowed me to be a part of charity events in a really meaningful way, whether it's fundraising or lifting spirits, it's nice to bring a smile to peoples' faces when they're in need. It's also introduced me to a community of pretty amazing and talented people.

i was extremely involved in the fandom from 2013-2015 or so, and was pretty much one of the "Big" fanartists. so i managed to get close to adam. i'm not going to say who i am, but during megacon 2014 (when i was two days shy of turning 16) we did have physical contact. i believe i may have been one of his first "victims", although my experience was very different from eve's. i was the instigator and "aggressor" so to speak, and adam technically was not touchy feely until i was.

You were still 15 on paper and he was still 23. It doesn't matter who started it. He should have not engaged with you at such an young age. Thank you for sharing!

So I’m sad Megacon is over bc it was a lot of fun but also I’m glad bc my feet and legs fuckin’ HURT and I just wanna sleep/play video games for the rest of the day. But god. I finally got to go to Megacon after trying to go since 2015. I’m really glad I went to smaller cons before Megacon too. Here’s hoping I can go to more in the future!! Already got cosplay ideas for it!

Hey Guys!! I would like to clarify a few things about Sherwi.

Some of you have commented that the art of this comic looks a little inferior in comparison to some of my other work and it's very simple to explain, actually the artwork used is an older concept style (even older than Skarpne). I did it together with my Bonacca Arts team in 2015 and it was released in my country in November of that same year, at an anime and entertainment convention called MEGACON, originally printed in Spanish and with limited copies; due to a few problems and lack of experience, we did not release it digitally or in English...that is, until now.

The original release date can be seen in the credits of the demo and the comic...but I should have made this clear much earlier.

Currently the second chapter is being completed, and the artwork is based on my current style. We will have printed copies of the Spanish version at this year’s MEGACON, to be held on November 11th, 2017 and the digital and English version will be published later on.

Also, for those that would like a little more insight...here’s the premise of the story:

"Gabriela, a disobedient schoolgirl who wants to leave her past behind and Sherwi, a cocky demon soon to become a powerful leader of Hell, are both forced to work together, when disaster in Hell causes the Sickle of Death to fall in the hands of Leslie, an eccentric school principal, who uses it at his will to transform reality.

Sherwi and Gabriela, will have to face enemies, as well as their own desires in this bizarre world and recover the Sickle, in order to return the world to normal and prevent Hell from freezing over due to the lack of lost souls that affects the entire spiritual world.

Failing their task would mean the end…"

Quiero aclarar algunas cosas respecto a Sherwi.

Algunos de ustedes notaron que el arte de este comic se ve inferior a mis otros trabajos, es muy simple de explicar, en realidad este comic es antiguo, (más antiguo que Skarpne) lo hice junto a mi equipo de Bonacca Arts en 2015 y fue lanzado noviembre de ese mismo año en una convención de anime y entretenimiento llamado MEGACON en mi país, el comic fue lanzado de manera física en español en una cantidad limitada, pero debido a diversos problemas y planes, no lo lanzamos de manera digital y en inglés, hasta ahora.

La fecha de lanzamiento original está en los créditos de la demo y el comic, pero debí dejar en claro esto mucho mejor.

Actualmente el segundo capítulo está terminado, el arte posee mi estilo actual, voy a imprimir algunas copias en español para presentarlo en MEGACON el 11 de noviembre de este año, la versión digital será publicada después.
