And now the tail of Polix’s wolf skin coat is wiggling, while he’s submitting to the centurion...
Nice detail. Especially because I’ve learned recently that wiggling tail is a sign of submition to the tougher wolf in the pack (and not happiness, like with dogs).

So I’ve finally watched all Asterix movies done in traditional animation. The next two will be done with CGI, which isn’t exactly a bad thing, but it’s an end of an era, so to speak.
And from aesthetics point Asterix and the Vikings was a little masterpiece. It also was a big return of animated Asterix movies after like, what, twenty years of absense?

I think there is a joke hidden somewhere in this movie, in regards to Vikea’s story of being forced into marriage by Abba’s father; and her reminescenting with sentiment about her wedding day, when she sees Abba resisting putting on wedding ring on her finger.
Mainly - Vikings were ancestors of (among other nations) Swedes. And of what syndrome Sweden is well-known for? A syndrome that mostly happens to people held hostage or kidnapped?
I mean, this story is already full of dark humor. We may as well add this to the mix.

Great, 10 minutes after “We Are One People” it’s stuck in my head.
On the other hand, I wonder if the language the tribe is using was recorded in all the language versions of the movie.

Olaf for the first 53 minutes of the movie: An idiot following his father’s order and not really all that interested in getting married to Abba.
Olaf for the rest of the movie: An unstoppable, creepy killing machine.

Justforkix is such a brat at the beginning of the movie. The “I hate to be on the countryside with those yonkels” attitude gets tiring really quickly...
But I remember him turning out to be kind of a pacifist lately, so here’s that.
Plus - in the comics (and in the Asterix: Gods Save the Queen) he was a whiny bitch through and through.

So, Asterix and the Vikings...
I remember this movie having a different feel than most Asterix movies. Mostly because it has some tropes that I haven’t seen before (Obelix’s feelings getting hurt by Justforkix’s not well-thought out words, for example).
Also the animation is stunning. Seeing Asterix movies from Asterix the Gaul until this one, you get the feeling that they really went a long way.

Asterix to a bear: I have a surprise for you! And it won’t be a picnic basket!
Me: I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE!

My friend @lack-of-surprise mentioned she watched Asterix movies lately, which prompted me to continue my own journey through the little Gaul’s animated adventures.
So now I’m watching Asterix and the Big Fight, which I started oonce, but couldn’t go through with it.

I love that - for the most part - Asterix is the one fullfiling the task one time, and next time it’s Obelix, and they alternate between each other. There are tasks that require strength, there are tasks that require smarts, there are tasks that require Obelix’s bottomless stomach, and there are tasks that require Asterix being done with everyone’s shit.

I’m just gonna put this out there:
Asterix in Britain > Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia.
I take no critisism. You all know it’s true.
I mean, the live action adaptation had some nice visual things but other than that it was a total mess. At least in Asterix at the Olympic Games Asterix acted and sounded like fucking Asterix.

Obelix on priestesses: They sing better than Cacofonix.
Me: Bullocks, nobody sings better than my man, Cacofonix.

I decided to watch all Asterix movies. Chronologically, to see how it changed.
Let’s start with Asterix the Gaul.

Okay, the Panacea and Tragicomix’s bits are tedious, but the scenes when Asterix and Obelix are legionaires are priceless.
Especially the British legionaire who loves military food.
