Welcome to #meetthemakerweek day 1 - Elevator pitch • I rarely show my face online (I’m not very photogenic I’m afraid 🙈 I look better in the mirror) but here I am! Have a glimps at me, my workspace and my process thanks to @lisawetta, who kindly took some pics of me two weeks ago in my studio. So feel invited to check out some of my favourite tools, for example a beautiful carrot holder with turquoise details a pen friend gave to me (my go-to holder with a thick nib for rough paper); keepsakes like an old iron gall ink I’ve inherited from my father who bought it in the 1980s; and a number of all the little tools and supplies we like to surround us with. Day 18: Inspiration #MarchMeetTheMaker⠀ ...⠀ My mind never rest 🤯 which means I often have way too many ideas. The struggle is to harvest the good ones and develop them before I get distracted, which is not easy. My designs tend to have a narrative which I think is more interesting and delightful.⠀ ...⠀ When I started Hokolo I wanted the designs to be inspired by all things British 🇬🇧and the plan is to introduce the Chinese influence gradually (going back to the brand name of Hokolo = Hong Kong + London. I'm currently working on new designs which reflects the Hong Kong 🇭🇰side of me)⠀ ...⠀ My first repeat pattern is the crown 👑 and orb print which was conceived in 2012 during the year of the Diamond Jubilee. I played around with the crown and soveriegn orb motifs and developed a design which looks like delicate lace from a distance but the detail reveals on closer inspection. ...⠀ I'm sure by now you know I love my food. So for the Christmas pattern is literally what I would have for Christmas dinner, Brussels sprouts, chestnuts and cranberries. Sorry no turkey 🦃 as I hate it, much prefer venison with cranberry sauce 😋 ...⠀ The English Breakfast pattern is the most obvious in its name. I thought of the typical greasy spoon caf and breakfast at B&B, gingham curtain, jam jar tops, formica table, ketchup bottle, fried eggs 🍳🍅🍊☕️.
