Meet the Sanders | Chapter 4

Author’s note: THIS STORY IS ALIVE! This is for @stardustsides, sorry that it’s taking me a while to write this chapter. Again, writer's block

Virgil and Lily got the Time Machine to the garage door.

It was on a big hill.

The garage appeared to be big along with the house. The garage was so big that it could be two houses on top of each other. 

“So, are you sure that no one will see this?” Lily asked, looking at Virgil when they stopped at the entrance of the garage.

“Well, dad doesn’t normally go down to the garage and father is on a three day business trip.” Virgil explained in one big breath. "So, we'll be fine!"

Lily hummed before trying to realize what he just said. “Huh?” 

Virgil didn’t explain more as he got to the buzzer by the garage door. Then a small hatch opened up and a voice asked, “Who goes there?”

Lily noticed that Virgil rolled his eyes. “Remy! It’s me!” Virgil said angrily at the voice box. “Open the door!”

“I’m not opening the door until you tell me the password!” the voice from the voice box.

“What are you talking about?! We don’t have a password!” Virgil shouted at the voice box.

“Yes! We do now!” the voice said. “I made one up when you were out!”

Then Vrigil smirked at the voice box. “It doesn’t make sense if you made one up and didn’t tell me.” Virgil said with sass, putting his hands on his hips.

“I… good point.” the voice said, sounding defeated.

Then a buzzer buzzed as the garage door opened. Lily and Virgil pushed the Time Machine into the garage. 

The garage was big and full of science technology and blueprints, along with  surprisingly big tubes that were so big that a human could go through it.

As they pushed it in, a bronze robot with long robotic limbs with green glass eyes walked over to Virgil.

“Hey Vi!” the robot named Remy said, looking at Virgil. “Did you find the other Time Machine?”

Virgil glared at the robot as if to say ‘what do you think?’, which made the robot frown. “No? Oh bud… You need to find it soon before he comes back.” Remy said to Virgil before looking at the broken time machine. “And now you’ve broken this one-” the robot stopped mid sentence when seeing Lily. “Who’s this?” the robot asked, pointing at her.

Lily’s eyes lit up when seeing a real working robot. “Oh wow! A robot!” she exclaimed after she and Virgil got the broken time machine fully inside. She ran to the bot and looked at it for a moment before offering her hand to shake as she said, “Salutations! I’m Lily!”

Remy looked at her with wide eyes of panic. Instead of shaking her hand, the robot screamed and ran away from her and went under one of the human size tubes. Then the tube sucked Remy up and sent him going up.

Lily’s eyes were wide when that happened. “That was weird-” she started but then felt Virgil put something on her head. She looks at a nearby mirror to see that Virgil put it on her.

It was a fruit hat.

“So is this...” Lily said to herself before looking at Virgil for an explanation. 

“Look, Lily. My family can’t see your hair or it’ll be dead give it away that you’re from the past.” Virgil explained, pointing at her head.

Lily looks at him, very confused. “Why would my hair be a dead give away?” she asked, pointing at her head.

“That’s a good question! But it’s not important right now.” Virgil said to her. Then he ran to the tube where the robot just went up. 

“Wait! Where are you going?!” Lily asked, starting to go after him.

“That’s also a good question!” Virgil said as he got to the tube. “Just stay here! Don’t follow!”

Lily stopped as she watched the tube sucked up Virgil and he went up the tube.

“Wait! You can’t just leave me here-!” Lily shouted but realized that Virgil was far gone. Then she mumbled to herself, “Aaand you’re gone…”

Lily sighed and looked at the other human size tubes. Curious, she went under the tube, trying to see how it works.

The next thing she knew was that the tube that she was under lit up and she was sucked up the tube. 

Lily screamed at the top of her lungs as she went up.

She stopped screaming when she got shot out of the tube and landed on the ground outside. She groaned and sat up as the lid of the tube closed up.

Lily looks around to see that she’s in front of a huge mansion.

“Wow!” she breathed as she got up.

‘Maybe I can get some help back to the garage.’ she thought as she walked to the big front door.

She knocked on the door and then rang the doorbell before patiently waiting. She heard the door being unlocked and the door handle started to turn.

“Um, hi.” Lily started as the door started to open. “I’m a friend of Vir-” She stopped mid sentence when she saw who opened the door.

A huge muscle green frog wearing a light blue shirt and tan pants with gray cardigan over it's shoulders.

Lily felt the blood in her face left and her face was pale when staring at the frog mutant while the huge frog looked down at her.

“I-uh… bye!” she said before running away from the front door.

Lily didn’t look where she was running as she glanced back to see if the mutant frog was chasing her. Then she bumped into someone, making her fall to the ground. 

Lily looked up to see who she bumped into.

It was an old man wearing a purple vest over a white shirt and black pants.

The old man turned around and looked at Lily. “Oh! Hello there!” he said, smiling softly at Lily and offering his hand to her. “You ok, miss-?”

“Lily.” Lily answered quickly, taking his hand and getting up from the ground. 

“Nice to meet you Lily. I’m Larry Sanders.” the old man said, shaking her hand when she was stable on the ground. 

“Nice to meet you too sir but I need to get back to the garage! Virgil left me down there and I-” Lily started but was interrupted by Larry saying, “Say, have you seen a pair of dentures?” 

“Dentures?”

“Yep, my dentures.” Larry said then he looked around. “I’ve been looking around for them for a while.” Then he looked at Lily again and asked “Want to help me find them?”

Lily stared at him for a moment. “Um… I can help, if you can help me get to the garage. Does that sound like a plan?” she asked the old man.

Larry looked at her with a thought before nodding. “It does sound like a plan. And hey, we’ll probably meet other members of the family.” he said, offering to hold Lily’s hand.

Lily nodded and held Larry’s hand as they started to look for dentures and the garage.

Virgil finally caught up to Remy and got him to calm down. Then they went to Virgil's room, where Virgil explained what happened and Remy listened to him.

It was clear that he was worried and stressed out.

“Ok then… But this is still a disaster!” Remy exclaimed after Virgil explained. “One of the working Time Machines is now broken and the other one is still missing because you! And, must I remind you, YOUR father comes back in two days!!!”

Virgil put both hands on Remy’s shoulders and sat him down. “Don’t worry! This will be fixed before father comes back.” he reassured the stressed out bot.

Then Virgil sat down next to Remy and started to explain his plan, “Look, Lily is in the garage while we talk. She’ll think about her purpose and then she’ll be already to fix the Time Machine when I get back and then we’ll go back to the science fair for her to fix the Memory Scanner.”

Remy nodded but he had a look as he asked sassy, “But what about taking Lily back to her mom?”

That made Virgil laugh and shrug. “Don’t worry about that! She’ll move on from it!” Virgil said with a scoff, looking at the robot again. “Virgil Sanders never fails.”

Then Virgil started to get some doubt and his anxiety started to kick in. “But… if I do-”

That got a groan from Remy. “Ugh! Let me run the numbers.”

The robot started to run the numbers as he pressed the buttons on his robotic forearm. A slit of paper popped out of the robot’s mouth after a few moments of typing. The robot pulls it out and start to read it before gasping worriedly.

That got Virgil’s anxiety a bit higher. “What is it?” he asked worriedly.

“Um… nothing, babes!” Remy said, trying to make it not a big deal as he put the paper back in his mouth and chewed it up to make it go away.

“Remy, please… That gasp isn't helping me or my anxiety…” Virgil begged, grabbing his chest as he felt his heart beat hard.

Remy stares at the teen before sighing. “Alright…” the robot started, rubbing the back of his neck. “It said that there’s a 99.9999999999 percent chance that you… won’t exist… If this isn't fixed...”

Virgil’s eyes widened worried at that before looking down at the ground. “I won’t exist…?” he breathed as he looked down.

Remy started to talk about something but Virgil wasn’t listening, now worried that he won’t exist if things don’t get fixed.

Then Virgil snapped out of his shock, putting on a quick smile and said, “It’ll be fine. I can fix this.”

Remy looked at Virgil with one of his robotic eyebrows raised.

Virgil nodded and held his hand out. “Now, the blue prints, please?” he asked.

The Robot sighed and opened his stomach compartment, pulling out the blueprints for the Time Machine. He hands it to Virgil.

“Thanks.” The teen said, taking the blueprints as he got up from his bed and went to the door to leave.

“When this is over, I’m going to have a good long break from you.” Remy said to him as he also got up and left the room after the door opened, going down the hall on the right side.

Virgil rolled his eyes at the bot as he closed his room door before going down the hall on the left of his room. He got to the end of the hall, which has a keypad.

Virgil pressed a few buttons, remaining calm as a circle opened up under him and he went down the big human size tubes to get to the garage.

“Alright, Lily! I’m back with the blue prints.” Virgil said as he got back to the garage, still holding the blueprints. 

Lily was nowhere in sight in the garage.

“Lily?” Virgil called out, looking around to see where she was before he started to panic. “Oh no!”

contrary to what you may think “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” from Hercules is not the Disney love song for prinxiety. the titular track from Beauty and the Beast is. not only because the lyrics hit:

“barely even friends/then somebody bends/unexpectedly/just a little change/small to say the least/both a little scared/neither one prepared”

“bittersweet and strange/finding you can change/learning you were wrong”

but also because Virgil is initially perceived by the other sides as a villain, as monstrous, and his arc is all about acceptance both from them and from himself, learning both to love and to be loved. Just like Adam/Beast. and because Roman is Belle coded—head in the clouds and obsessed with stories, craving adventure and desperately looking for something more than this provincial life. you get it.

Lily never met her mother.

Well, never has a memory of her that she remembers.

She was only a few days old when she arrived at the orphanage.

Lily always wondered why his mother left her.

When she was eight years old, she asked Valorie, the caretaker, why his mother left her. Valorie didn’t know, she told her that she was found on the steps of the orphanage on a cold storming night.

As Lily grew up, she loved inventing and she invented a lot of things. Most of them often exploded. 

Now she is twelve and a half years old and has met 124 couples who didn’t adopt her. 

Lily got her Memory Scanner idea after having a talk with Valorie about her mother and looking at a poster on a billboard. 

She studied the human brain so she could understand and know what she could get an idea for the Memory Scanner.

Scale (Janice Scaleson), her roommate, helped make the memory scanner for the past few months, despite getting enough sleep.

Lily hopes that her Memory Scanner works today. But little did Lily know that she was going to have a surprising wide eye experiences on the day of the science fair and see her future.
