Story of @medicineandmessyhair A product of the diaspora. not muslim enough for Pakistan and too muslim for America. asked about when i’ll be getting married more often than i am about medical school and my passions. grew up underprivileged but was never a victim. .

the boxes kept changing for me as i got older. went from being too much of living in the ghetto, to being told someone like me couldn’t be smart enough, to being too woman, to being too close to the age of marriage. .

why did i want to be a doctor instead of doing what most aunties live for; seeking one out for their daughters to marry? why all the extra work, princess? why did i want to break tradition? what about marriage? now I’m too busy, too career oriented, too western for the eastern standards. .

i’m always not enough or too much. but the truth is, i wasn’t made to fit in any boxes. .

pakistani muslim american. heard the noise telling me not to be too ambitious because society would see it as a threat, but did it anyway. heard the noise telling me to put education second, but put it first anyway. heard the noise doubting me, but believed in myself anyway. .

i wasn’t made to fit in any boxes. i was made to create, to lead, to change, to educate, to empower, to change the traditional systems that have so long told brown, muslim women that they’re too much or not enough. .
.
you’re fine just the way you are. love your fellow sisters, empower them, help them, mentor them. we need more of us representing us. we are here, our voices are too often silenced, but i came to be heard. you should too. .

Hello Tumblr

It’s been awhile since I penned down my thoughts here. Blame it to Clinical year. It has been few months and I’m still adjusting to the new learning style. As opposed to pre-clinical year, we don’t have lectures at all-- which is good and bad. Good because I’m a lazy piece of shit and I hate lectures

Bad because I’m a lazy piece of shit who don’t initiate my own learning.

Anyway, it’s Sunday and I ain’t wasting my day off with the books so I end up taking my old sketchbook and randomly draw whatever that comes into my mind.

            “I can’t picture and correlate”

Weird name for my #SundaySketch.  Decided to put that title because my doctor always ask me to picture the patient and correlate to whatever basic sciences I’m supposed to have in my head--- but I’m obviously slow because wth my mind is too unorganized to correlate complex thing. Just look at my weird sketch.
