Sword designs to match each character in the story:
(1) (2) (3) Chinese long swords - design inspired the real-life Swords with Scabbard Mounts from the Met collection - ca. 600 CE
(3) is the least fancy, with scabbard made of rather plain dark wood, to match the character's status, history and overall design; the owner doesn't throw it away despite being broken, not being able to easily get a brand new sword
(4) European sword modelled after a number of 6th century ring swords - robbed from a grave, and thus quite ornamental

I’ve been really unmotivated lately due to a variety of things and I’m debating continuing to post my #swordtember2022 doodles because no one sees them…thoughts? I might just post them on stories, I don’t know…

Medieval Swords Were Used for What Purposes?
Tumblr media
Swords are one of the most popular weapons in medieval history. They were used in battle and for self-defense and were also a symbol of power and status. There are many different types of medieval swords, each with its own unique features. The most common type of sword is the longsword, which was used by knights during the Middle Ages.
Longswords typically had a blade that was around two feet long, and they were used for both thrusting and slashing. Another common type is the greatsword, which was even longer than the longsword and was often used by soldiers in battle. Greatswords could have blades that were up to four feet long, and they were very heavy and difficult to wield.
Finally, there was the rapier, which was a thinner and lighter sword that was often used for fencing. Rapiers typically had a blade that was around one foot long, and they could be easily wielded with one hand.
Types and Their Qualities
There are many different types of swords, each with its own unique qualities. For example, the longsword was a popular type of sword during the medieval period. It was typically about four feet long and had a wide, double-edged blade that could be used for both slashing and thrusting. The longsword was a versatile weapon that could be used in both close-quarters combat and on horseback.
Another popular type was the rapier. Rapiers were thin, lightweight swords that were designed for thrusting rather than slashing. They were often used in duels and fencing matches. Rapiers could also be used in close-quarters combat, but they were less effective than the longsword in this context.
The last type is the greatsword. Greatswords were massive two-handed swords that could weigh up to 15 pounds or more. They had broad blades with blunt edge that was designed for hacking rather than thrusting. Greatswords were primarily used in battlefield combat, where their size and weight gave them an advantage over smaller swords.
All of these different types of medieval swords had their own unique qualities that made them well-suited for different purposes. The longsword was versatile and effective in both close-quarters combat and on horseback. The rapier was light and fast, making it ideal for dueling or fencing.
Uses of Medieval Swords
There are many different types of swords that were used in medieval times. Each type of sword had a different use. Some of the more common uses for swords in medieval times were:
Combat:
Swords were the primary weapon used in combat during medieval times. They were used to slash and stab opponents.
Self-Defense:
Swords could also be used for self-defense. If someone was attacked, they could use their sword to defend themselves.
Hunting:
Swords were sometimes used for hunting animals. The blade could be used to kill the animal or to cut it up into pieces.
Ceremonial:
Swords were also often used on ceremonial occasions. For example, knights would often receive a sword when they were knighted.
These swords were used for close combat and could slash or thrust at opponents. Swords were also used for hunting, and sometimes as a ceremonial weapon. The use of swords in close combat began to decline in the late medieval period, as armor became more effective at protecting against sword blows. However, swords continued to be used as hunting weapons and for ceremonial purposes.
Its Popularity Remains the Same!
Medieval swords have been around for centuries, and their popularity has only grown recently. Today, these swords are used by collectors, historical reenactors, and even some competitive fencers. These swords today are still used by many people for a variety of purposes. Some people use them for historical reenactments, while others use them for self-defense or as decorative pieces.
Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that medieval swords are still popular today. There are many different types of these swords to choose from, so it is important to do some research before purchasing one. You will want to consider what type of sword would be best suited for your needs and also what size and the weight you are comfortable with.
Once you have decided on the perfect sword, it is time to start using it! There are a few things to keep in mind when using a medieval saber. First, always make sure that the edge of the blade is facing away from you. Second, never swing the sword at full force; this could damage the blade or injure someone nearby. And finally, always be respectful of the weapon and those around you when using it.

@medievalswords well, colin was blustering lol. colin was doing a problematic straight guy persona to avoid detection and then he stepped out of the room so no one in that locker room would see what the nudes on his phone really look like. he did that persona in an earlier episode when he joked about fucking zava - it's his code-switching tactic. i think it's safe to say that colin has the best understanding of the importance of security and privacy out of everyone in that room. even though he did open a horny text from michael right in front of his locker a few weeks ago 😔
