stardew valley au where joel and skizz are new residents to pelican town (hermit town?). joel just inherited a large farm from his late grandfather and skizz is moving in with his old friend after reconnecting with him and wanting a fresh start. and the townspeople are like, kinda weird.
bdubs is fine enough - he’s a sweet man with a fun personality and he’s the local builder, but it’s almost frightening how fast he constructs new buildings when joel needs them. pearl, their resident postmaster, is also pretty normal other than the fact that skizz never seems to be awake early enough to catch her delivering mail. scar is lovely but he’s never available when joel wants another chicken. the mayor, xisuma, is pleasant too, if a little eccentric at times, but he doesn’t really seem to do much in town.
for the most part, skizz is settling in well. he’s moved in with impulse, who runs the local blacksmith in town, and he gets along well with most of the local townspeople. he’s started spending his evenings at the local saloon listening to ren regale the patrons with fantastical tales while he and stress serve up food and drinks, and he finds himself growing close with cleo, the local sculptor. he even gets a new wardrobe from hypno free of charge, and sometimes helps cub out with his totally scientific studies and creations.
skizz also joins forces with beef (who helps to supply the local general store that xb and keralis run) in terrorising the local manager of the corporate chain grocery store that no one likes. doc is a terrible manager but would make a fun supervillain (according to joe hills, the bookseller who appears once in a blue moon but seems to know doc more than anyone in town).
joel, on the other hand, seems to only be interacting with the strangest residents in town. he discovers the adventurer’s guild after only a couple weeks. false promises to give him prizes if he can kill enough monsters, which is not something joel had expected to be doing when he pictured farm life, but here he is. he stumbles upon a travelling cart one day, and the man inside insists he’s a knight from a faraway land, that he risked his life to make it all the way here to sell his wares. it’s all stuff joel can get cheaper elsewhere.
he’s pretty sure the local doctor has no real medical training, but then he passes out while fighting monsters and he wakes up completely fine, so zedaph probably knows what he’s doing. maybe. when joel isn’t passing out he sometimes makes trips to the library-slash-museum, which is probably almost completely empty because mumbo, who begs joel for anything to display, looks like he’s never fought a duggie in his life. eventually mumbo gives joel a key to the sewers, which are way cooler than they have any right to be, and that’s where he finds jevin’s secret sewer shop. jevin lives in town. he just also has a shop hidden underground. joel has stopped asking questions by now.
and then there are the three who live by the beach. etho spends most of his time tinkering around the fishing hut or hovering around bdubs, but sometimes he drives the bus to the desert. only sometimes. there might be something under his mask. no one knows for sure. gem runs the fish shop most days and she claims she’s a sailor, but joel has never seen a single working boat around despite all the ocean. she can also hold her breath underwater for an uncannily long amount of time, like, scarily so, and will sometimes disappear for a few days and return with an abundance of treasures. joel has never seen her leave by boat. grian fishes a lot and runs the shop when gem can’t, and he sometimes talks as though the sea can speak to him. skizz has caught him staring into space for extended periods of time. one time he waded into the water and just stood there, head down, muttering to himself.
apparently there used to be a lighthouse but “it’s gone now”. gem says if they ask bdubs nicely enough maybe they can build another one, but she and grian are banned from build requests after the last incident with their pet snails (joel has never seen the snails, but scar complains about them enough to convince him they’re real).
there also might be some kind of wizard who lives in the creepy tower in the woods. skizz has heard he’s the one who helps maintain the power in the valley, and joel’s convinced he hallucinated seeing him once until he recieves a letter from the wizard himself, and visits him only to find that the strange fire-creature he saw that one time was, in fact, tango, who is human for the most part, he just sets himself on fire sometimes.

Imagine finding Niragi after the Beach.
first time writing aib! i haven't written in a while so i was definitely a little rusty, but i'll have more free time from now on so ideally the next ones will be better! warnings: niragi. a drastically unhealthy relationship (of course), niragi slander, burn injuries and gore, guns, problematic grief, mentions of massacre. if you have any triggers i doubt you'd want to even look at this man, apologies. requested by: @nonsocosamett3r3. can't tag, but i hope you see this! for now, aib requests are open! written by: archie support me on ko-fi!
The store was quiet, only tainted by the sound of lit gas heating your ramen and the quiet bubbling of the soup.
Your eyes fixed on the flame like it was magnetic. After the horrors of the Beach, something just drew you to it. That little flame…
Amazing.
Amazing how something so small could grow so big that it would engulf the whole resort. The whole community. Your whole future, and who you'd planned to spend it with.
You’d loved Suguru for so long, even before you’d arrived in this world. You’d vowed to love him as long as you were alive, but that was before he’d given into his brewing internal sickness.
It hurt too hard to think it. It utterly carved your heart to think that his only relief from himself might take fire and flames. The only way to be kind to him would be to let him die, and finally, it came. He was better off dead, and yet... you couldn’t help aching for him.
He was the one person you’d come into this with. The one person you knew you could trust. Even when he was at his worst.
You shook your head. It wouldn’t do to dwell on how he’d protected you from the witch trial. How he’d given you a pistol and told you to hide on the roof. “Wait for me up there,” he’d said, a firm hand on your back to nudge you towards the stairs, his spare pistol pressed into your palms. “Anyone aims at you and they’re dead.”
Even at his worst, his most unhinged, he still took care of you. He was never all ba-
No. Thinking like this would only make it harder. You needed to focus on how he was a murderer, how he was manic, how he embodied all of humanity’s darkest traits. Perhaps then, you could function in this world without him.
A sigh. The cooker’s flame danced before you, and all you could see in your mind was Niragi. How the fire clung to him. How he screamed and thrashed—
You shut the gas off.
No, you couldn’t look at it. The flame.
The spices in the ramen no longer smelled good; they churned your stomach and the burn of suppressed tears sat in your sinuses. Your head dropped into your hands, the heels of your palms pressed to your eyes. You wouldn’t cry over him. He was a murderer. A sadistic, psychopathic, narcissistic—
A clatter behind you.
“Auh, phuck.”
Panic pushed you to your feet, your breath hitched. You’d perched in the homewares aisle with your campfire cooker, and wherever that distorted voice came from was barely two aisles back.
It was so dark, you were so tired, and so many people hated you. Not even through any fault of your own. You didn’t choose to love the most hated man at the Beach. You were an easy target and anyone who recognised you surely wouldn’t hesitate, so you grabbed for the pistol from your belt and readied yourself for an assault. You’d not die at the hands of an angry Beach resident tonight.
Slow footsteps took you through the store, startled every time you heard a grunt or a clash. Someone was rummaging through the shelves and audibly struggling.
The smash of a glass bottle on the floor, then a strained voice. “Phuckin ‘ell.”
You neared the corner of the aisle and peered around, pistol held out before you. You only hoped they couldn’t hear the trembling rattle of your hold on it.
What you saw was inconclusive. Someone with a flashlight held in their mouth, pointed at shelves full of medical wares. They struggled with gathering supplies, knocking them over instead and hissing in pain, but you couldn’t gather a single feature.
This was your chance to strike a new alliance. They were clearly wounded and in no fighting condition, so you could easily best them if you needed to, but… Would it really be worth it to make a connection with someone that may surely hold back your chances in a game?
You had half a mind to turn away, leave them to their own struggling devices-
But the choice was taken. A loud groan and the flashlight dropped from the person’s mouth, clattered to the floor, and rolled a few inches.
The stream of light pointed directly to your shoe and lit up the tip of your weapon.
You might’ve expected the person to be startled with the realisation that they weren’t alone, to stumble back or at least gasp. But instead, you were met with an audible sneer.
“Ah. Gonna kill me?”
The end of your pistol still pointed into the darkness, though you could just barely see the silhouette of your target. And oh, you quivered. Your aim was as fractured as your heart, and you’d never held anyone in place with your aim before. It was clear to see.
A familiar snort. “You couldn’t hit me if you tried.”
Your brows tugged together. Your voice had left you entirely, chest heaving with the growing panic at how this tall figure found no sense of danger in you. And yet, that voice was so…
“S-Suguru?”
“Oh?” A beat of silence, and then a soft, sore laugh. “I taught you better than to tremble, baby.”
You almost dropped the pistol. It couldn’t be. You’d seen him fall off the roof shrouded in flame, and it’d been long days. Death was the only escape for him, and he needed it. But here he was, and you couldn’t help but hope it was true.
You dove for that flashlight to check that your wants hadn’t deceived you and scooped it up to point directly at Niragi to take him in in all his… misery.
Your heart broke. The sound of it was a distraught gasp, instant tears pricking the corners of your eyes. “Suguru…”
His gorgeous skin was rippled with the fusion of the fire. His hair ragged and burnt, chest and arms crimson, raw and leaking with infectious fluids.
His face scrunched with immediate hatred, his voice a pained hiss as he turned away. “Don’t. Don’t you fucking pity me.”
“I’m not-“
“Don’t.”
Ah, this was your Suguru. Blunt and dismissive, hostile even to you, but you knew how to handle him. You didn’t let him see dizzying wave of relief that drowned you, you held back those tears. Even if he was the most hated man in this realm, he was yours. You weren’t alone in this world anymore.
You took a brief moment to breathe and let your head calm before stepping in close, light shining on his arms. The skin had melted, black patches of fabric stuck into his skin, all the way up to his bare torso. But he didn’t like you looking.
He snatched away the light and the next thing you knew, you were blinded. Your eyes squinted against it, blinking, brows tugged together as you tried to seek out his face once more against the light.
A delicate hand to your cheek, a soft sigh. That was the sound of lazy Sunday mornings with him, the sound he’d always made with his nose buried into your hair.
You let your eyes close, transporting back to simpler times with his touch. His thumb ran so gently across your cheekbone and for the briefest moment you could pretend things were normal, that he was just your boyfriend back in Tokyo. Your beautiful, troubled, bespectacled boyfriend.
If only he didn’t smell of ash and molten flesh, you could have convinced yourself that nothing had changed.
His touch dropped away, the light directed away and your eyelids fluttered open once more. His gaze was so soft on yours. How could this boy with beautiful doe eyes ever hurt another? Perhaps… Just perhaps, he’d learned his lesson. He didn’t deserve this life.
“Let me see,” you murmured, carefully taking the flashlight from his hold. He was like a lost child as he watched you inspect his chest, so gentle as you opened his shirt to see the scarring. You couldn’t help the grimace as you peeled some of the sticky fabric from yellowed, skinless flesh, but he didn’t even wince. He just watched you quietly, intimately.
You met that gaze, and the butterflies in your chest were dizzying. “I’ll dress it for you. Okay?”
A grunt of agreement.

Untitled Blue - アンタイトル・ブルー
DRAMA, MYSTERY
Untitled Blue by Natsume Yukiko
(2 volumes, ongoing)
JP only - English summary in this post
Links to my other manga posts here
Tumblr media
I've started out this year strong by completely ignoring my 2023 Manga Reading Goals post, which is very on-brand for me tbh, with Momo's Medical History, Yume no Shizuku Kin no Torikago, A California Story, and probably other stuff I'm forgetting. I have my reasons so leave me be. I decided to actually consult my list this time and was debating between Untitled Blue and Tenjou Renka. Knew practically nothing about either but went with Untitled Blue after skimming the samples for each. All I DID know beforehand was it had something about art and suicide, that's it. (***Trigger warning for suicide*** because it is indeed in there.)
Tumblr media
This one’s for you Colleen *finger guns*
Once again, since this isn't available in English, I'll summarize it like I always do for Japanese-only manga. Spoilers for volumes 1-2 will be labeled and my thoughts will be after that. Twitter reading thread here. Twitter link to this post here.
***SPOILERS FOR VOLUME ONE***

Tumblr media
Anyone else get labeled a “gifted/honor student” growing up? Ugh…
Ogihara Akari was called an art prodigy as a child but fizzled out when she got older. On her way home one day, she swings by the ocean to scavenge driftwood for the art prep school she works at. To her surprise, while she's there a young man emerges from the ocean in front of her eyes. Akari offers to call for help but the boy tells her not to. If she does, he'll die right here, right now. Unable to walk away, Akari brings him home where he proceeds to pass out on her couch. She tries to find an ID but instead finds an expensive watch engraved with the name of a big financial conglomerate.
Tumblr media
It’s fine! On my second day in Japan way back when, I got in a stranger guy’s car in Ishinomaki who was fixing graves without a second thought because I got lost looking for the ferry. Sweet guy! I’m alive and didn’t get kidnapped! Don’t tell my mom... Don't do what I do guys, be safe. I speak Japanese and knew what I was doing.
The boy wakes up and wanders into a storage room in the house that's full of art supplies. When Akari realized where he went, she finds him painting and having read about her youth. While watching him paint, she sees childlike joy in him and he produces a beautiful piece of the beach where she found him. She asks him if he does Japanese painting but he says it was his first time using that kind of paint. FYI 日本画 nihonga or Japanese painting uses a specific type of paint. More info here. I met a nihonga artist who was getting ready for an exhibition at the art prep school I used to go to in Tokyo and I realized, "Wow, there's a lot about nihonga I don't know." I've seen nihonga materials at art supplies stores like Sekaido Shinjuku and PIGMENT TOKYO in Shinagawa, and I don't even know where to start tbh.
Tumblr media
I mean, look at all this. At least there's cool stuff to look at on the long hike to the immigration office - PIGMENT TOKYO (Shinagawa)
The boy suggests that they sell his work under Akari's name because for reasons, he can't put his name out there. She insists that it won't be so simple but he goes, "You're a former prodigy. Let's just list it for like ¥800,000 or whatever."
Tumblr media
¥800,000??? Sir??????? At first, I thought he said ¥80,000 which is like, yeah okay. But honestly? Ask for your worth artists!
Akari is envious that he was able to capture the feeling of the beach when she had drawn the same scenery over and over, but failed. Her work wasn't valued, but his painting of the beach actually sold for ¥800,000. Not only that, it was bought by Iwakura, a well-known artist in the nihonga scene. Akari thinks that the boy should come forward as the artist of the piece. Instead, he asks her how much time ¥800,000 would buy him to stay at her place and says, "Let me borrow your name and I'll give you fame and fortune." I am... screaming.
Tumblr media
This is making me feral, both in a friendship way and a potential romance way. Porque no los dos?
While he's telling Akari that he thinks she never wanted to give up on art, her little brothers come home. She tells the kids that this stranger is... going to be living with them... Middle schooler Toma is a sweetheart who invites him to dinner, while high schooler Nagisa is also a great kid but more skeptical, pokes and prods, and is against it. We find out the boy's name is Omi and learn that Akari's parents died 8 years ago. Omi convinces Nagisa to let him stay because he'll make them ¥10,000,000. Nagisa agrees because he wants to make sure they can send Toma to college.
Later, Omi and Akari are talking and she asks him if he's somehow related to the financial conglomerate. She also expresses hesitation in letting him crash with them. This seems to hit a sore spot for Omi who feels like a burden and clearly has baggage.
Tumblr media
Oof…
They discuss their arrangement and Omi talks about carving themselves into the world and having something to leave behind. One thing leads to another, and Akari ends up getting featured on Iwakura's TV show and a spot in an art gallery. She has a few close calls where she was at risk of getting exposed for not being the artist behind the piece. Akari's sudden success has also led to others feeling animosity toward her. However, Akari starts to show signs of coming into her own, and acknowledging her "sins." It looks like she's going to try and really get back into painting herself. Volume one ends with a “long-time fan” of Akari's coming to the gallery and confronting her, claiming that he knows she's lying.
***SPOILERS FOR VOLUME TWO***
The “fan” seems to know something is up, possibly that Omi is staying with Akari. It seems like he might be some gangster or perhaps works for the big financial group? We’re not told who he is yet.
Akari starts putting her all into art and taking it seriously. Back at the Ogihara household, Toma is showing an interest in art as well. Nagisa however, snaps at his siblings. I think it's from a place of worry for their future as well as discomfort with all the changes since Omi showed up. His outburst reminded me of parents who want their kids to pick “safe” paths that are more likely to lead to a secure future, hence why he’s so worried about sending Toma to college. They’ve all had to grow up quickly after losing their parents.
Nagisa runs off and everyone goes looking for him. During their search, Akari's mind starts spinning, feeling guilty for ever letting art come before her brothers and dropping the ball at home. Since their parents passed, she's had to step up as the eldest. She thought that as long as she could protect her family, she'd be fine, even if that meant giving up on her dreams.
Tumblr media
While my life is not beat-for-beat like Akari’s, there are A LOT of similarities and… oh man… this hurts…
Stuck trying to balance sacrificing for the people she loves, part of Akari can't give up on her passions for her own sake. After she finds Nagisa, she tells him to watch her paint. He goes on to say that he's worried she'll get hurt again, so she tells him, "I hope you'll be there to help me so I can come out of it okay." Which, omg, yes. Allowing yourself to ask for help and not shouldering everything alone is good! All these kids are just so precious, honestly.
Meanwhile, Omi gets a letter from the Amasawa financial group which sends him into a mental spiral. We don't get to see what's in the letter exactly, but he starts to think things like, "I'm running out of time." We later find out the letter is threatening to drag the Ogihara family into things if Omi doesn't contact them.
Tumblr media
Hello darkness my old friend~
Akari goes to check on him and takes him outside for a change of pace, where they discuss some plans to participate in an art fair. Omi seemingly out of nowhere tells Akari they should have a contest and, "If you win, I'll give you your name back." Of course, Akari is confused as to what he means and turns him down.
In the second half of chapter 7, Toma is skipping school for the first time ever. The "fan" guy, whose name is Hijiri, had run into Toma before and takes him on a ride on the back of his motorcycle. Basically, this grown-ass man is trying to build camaraderie with a literal child so he can use him to get at Omi. He manipulates Toma's insecurities and I hate it. Toma, sweetie, get away from him!!!
Tumblr media
I’m gonna throw hands, I swear if he touches a hair on Toma's head (ง’̀-‘́)ง
It turns out Hijiri is Omi's cousin, specifically the son of Omi's younger paternal uncle. Because of this, Omi was set to be the heir of the Amasawa family, leaving Hijiri to live in his shadow. To make matters worse, Hijiri's dad was a hobby artist and started giving Omi more attention when he showed greater artistic talent than his son. To make matters even worse, Omi has everything Hijiri wants, but he doesn't want it himself. Omi tells him that if he wants to be the heir, he can have the position, then immediately threw himself off a balcony and into a lake. Good lord... Hijiri is furious that his cousin doesn't appreciate everything he's been "blessed" with, and he's going to drag him back home to get money and stop the Amasawa group from looking down on him. Get help bro, sheesh.
I'll be brief about the second half of this volume:
We get loads of emotional beats that made me absolutely lose it. So much so, I actually shot up out of my seat and pulled a muscle LOL. The ending of volume 2 just... crushed me. I'm so upset and I need to know what happens next right this instant. I won't say much more as I think it would be best to read those parts for yourself when it's available. I know I keep saying this for a lot of my reads recently, but please license this.

***END OF SPOILERS FOR VOLUMES 1-2***
As I mentioned in my Blue Period post, I'm an art kid. It's a big passion of mine. Having a well-written, realistically portrayed struggling artist/creative is always a plus in my book. I just wanna feel seen guys... This series delivers with a side of the kind of plot that we come to shoujosei for — chef's kiss.
The Ogihara family (including honorary member Omi) are lovable, interesting characters. I adore great sibling dynamics in stories, and this has great sibling dynamics! Akari and Omi are so different, but the same — two sides of the same coin? And Akari realizes this herself. Our main duo understand each other in some respects but don't at all in others. I liked how Akari understandably asks Omi personal questions the first day they met but doesn't pry when he clearly doesn't want to share. She leaves him be for the most part, not pestering him, but not to the point of letting him wallow around too much. But when she does push, it's from a place of caring and concern, and she does it in a way that makes that clear.
Tumblr media
"How about a change of pace?"
"... Don't wanna... sounds like a pain."
"Oh, don't be like that! We're not going anywhere far." (Then she dragged him outside lol)
I'm sure some people are thinking, "You idiot, why are you bringing home some stranger and letting him live there? You don't even know who he is." And yeah, I feel that. But when Akari met Omi the way she did, she realized he was in a bad place, he was hurting, and desperately needed a hand to reach out to him. So, she took his hand. How could she leave him there? At the same time, I think Akari needed to meet him as much as he needed to meet her. I love that for them.
And Omi never crosses any lines with her. He doesn't have ulterior motives toward her in that way. There is potential romance, but there's no anime bullshit if you know what I mean. Omi is respectful, aware of the fact he's crashing at this stranger's house, and tries to contribute in his own way, albeit awkwardly. This guy was brought into this family and it warms my heart.
Initially, I was thinking that Akari would simply continue to be the face of the art while Omi produced it. I'm delighted to see that they're actually working together to be two halves of a whole! I think Akari was afraid to put her all into art while Omi might be putting too much of himself into his art. He's escaped a suffocating environment and could be going too hard pursuing the only thing he truly wants to do with his newfound freedom.
The art in Untitled Blue is lovely and does an amazing job of conveying how characters feel and nailing the mood in a scene. I enjoy the pacing as well.
Tumblr media
Love it when you can feel a page!
Tumblr media
This page feels like a visual representation of a panic attack but after the overwhelming thoughts, instead of the mental clarity she reaches here, your brain goes blank for a whole day. Glad you got the mental clarity route Akari.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pages are sick, actual chills.
Speaking of art, there are some cool things that come up in the story. There's commentary on what makes art compelling, as well as scenes about art that's more realistic/photorealistic versus more stylized art.
Tumblr media
"If you're getting this close to the real thing, why not just take a picture?"
Tumblr media
"Is he serious? That's better than my drawing? It looks like something that took 5 seconds to draw." Isn't this basically what people say about Picasso's stuff? There was a line in Blue Period about this too.
I'm not saying photorealistic art is bad or less than. There are various opinions regarding this topic. A lot artists learn a foundation of what things are supposed to look like (still life, figure drawing, etc.) to learn the "rules" so they can break them. Some argue that "art normies" find realistic works more appealing than those with a more decerning eye. And this does come up in the manga.
There's also lots of talk about the value of art in various senses, and where they discuss the monetary value of art that I found interesting.
Tumblr media
Yes, art is more than just the money, but artists are professionals that deserve to get paid well for their craft.
Loving the exploration of various ideas!
I'm not sure if this series is going to have romance or not, and whether it'll be more of a sub-genre or a big part of the manga. There are some incredibly tender scenes that could be taken as romantic, but could also be vulnerability and platonic love as well imo. MAL says it's drama/mystery/romance, but Renta! just has it listed under mystery/suspense, no romance, so idk. I'm cool with things being platonic or romantic as long as it's done well. Although, I kind of want more platonic relationships.
Tumblr media
I'm reading this on Renta! and romance series like うるわしの宵の月/In the Clear Moonlit Dusk are tagged with 恋愛/romance. Untitled Blue doesn't have the tag though.
I was looking around to see if there was a release date for volume 3, but it turns out that there hasn't been a volume released since September 2021.
Tumblr media
Volume 1 was released June 2021, and volume 2 was released September 2021.
But the mangaka tweeted this in November 2022:
Tumblr media
"Untitled Blue volumes 1-2 are available 🎶 Volume 3 will release in the near future, so now's a great time to catch up 🎶”
Haven't seen any release dates, but it looks like we can look forward to volume 3 soon! I enjoyed Untitled Blue WAY more than I was expecting to and I can't wait to read more!!! After the end of volume 2, I need to know what happens... It actually made me tear up. I mean, aren't the best reading experiences the ones that make you bounce off the walls and scream at the page?
-----------------------------
If there's any Japanese-only manga you want me to check out, let me know! No promises, I'll only read what I'm interested in, but I'll take suggestions into consideration. Preferably, shorter manga or newer manga with a few volumes out since I like to take breaks from longer series I'm reading :)

Hi! My name is Jazz. Diane Duane reblogged my post about top surgery last week, and you reblogged it from her with a very kind offer of advice and information -- which I super appreciate, thank you. :) And I will now proceed to take you up on that offer.
I'd like to ask: if you had to buy a compression garment to wear while you were healing, where did you get it? Did you have to buy any additional medical supplies like...I don't know, gauze or anything? How much could you move your elbows out to the side while healing? (I've been trying to practice having "t-rex arms", and it's taught me that apparently I'm very expansive in my elbow movements...) And how long was it before you could reach and stoop again in the course of your daily routine, like to empty a dishwasher and other simple things?
Also, if you have any more "things I wish I had known/someone had told me" I will VERY gladly accept them. Your tip about roomy button-up shirts, for example, was great.
Thank you again!! It was super nice of you to offer this. And congrats on your own not-long-ago top surgery!
Hi, Jazz! I'm glad to help. I know it can feel so dang overwhelming! Feel free to hit me up with any other questions or if any of my answers were confusing. (ASDF I meant to reply privately and forgot. If you want me to kill this and message the info to you, let me know!)
Compression Garments
The first one you receive you will wake up in after surgery. I personally got a second. You could get a nice one, I woke up in a Marena Full Vest, but I opted for a $25 snap up half compression vest I found on Amazon with decent reviews because I didn't think about wanting the second and couldn't get a half vest from Marena which was what I wanted in a timely fashion. Note on sizing, I got a men's medium in the Marena but a large in the other and both fit the same.
Then after I could get a binder on over my head I switched to mostly using one of my old binders, this was probably 4 weeks in. I think I wore it something like 6-8 weeks, much of that time was both awake and asleep. They will have recommendations for times in your recovery packet. If they don't some surgeon's list their tips on compression vest time on their websites.
**Note: If you could use a US men's medium and have an address you are comfortable with an internet stranger shipping something, I can send you the Marena and cheaper vest I got both.
Additional Medical Supplies
Pre-Surgery: Hibiclens soap. You should be able to find this at local stores, but def look in the aisle location stuff. I found it was next to wound care stuff. The surgeon will probably give you instructions on how many showers to take with it etc, but I cannot stress enough, do not use it on your face. I didn’t make that mistake, but it was stressed to me hard enough to know that no one would want to.
All general recovery things they will give you to take home with you after surgery/after your follow up visits.
A roll of silicone tape kinda like this stuff. Whether your doctor recommends it, I found it was amazing for softening the scars. Also it is apparently convenient for when you reach the point you can submerge. My surgeon told me it would adequately protect the scars from sunlight if I wanted to go swimming (He told me to go hit the beach during our first cold snap in October, we are 10 hrs away from the nearest beach. I might have laughed at him.) I cut it in half down the length of it and used thinner strips, I found that was plenty to cover the scars and meant I didn't use it near as fast.
If you don't have ibuprofen, get that. I didn't need a lot of pain meds but everyone is different and it's better to have and not need than need and not have. They gave me hydrocodone/acetaminophen tabs and told me I could alternate with an NSAID like ibuprofen if I needed meds more frequently than I could take those.
Both a small bottle of stool softener and a small bottle of regular laxative. You may only need the stool softener, I started with it and it was not enough. I only needed them once, but I definitely needed the laxative. The combo of the anesthesia and the hydrocodone was tough.
If you have drains (most common) then a small cup or two for draining/measuring. Something like this maybe. I ended up having my friend who stayed to help me out like SCROUNGING to find old ones from nyquil bottles because you can't find them in physical stores on their own very easily. If you have those, just save a couple. If you wanna throw them away after each use, well -waves vaguely at the link- a set like that would be handy.
Range of Motion/Recovery Time
Every recovery is different. I was never at full T-rex arms, but I definitely was not at full ranger of motion for about a month. Every surgeon recommends things a bit differently too. Definitely try and get help that first week with store runs if you realize you need something, grabbing food/making food so you aren't stuck ordering delivery a bunch. Set things you know you'll want to reach on lower cabinet shelves/flat out on the counter. Even if it messes up your sense of order, you can fix it later, reaching above your head or too far side to side is TOUGH. And I definitely did not do as good a job of this as I thought and had to get help getting stuff accessible. As far as reaching down, I didn't notice an issue there at all. But I mostly crouch on my knees when doing that anyway. Assume it will be about impossible week 1 and tough through week 2, getting easier faster than you should do it after that.
My surgeon recommended I not go back to work for 3 weeks, but I did some work from home that third week. When I went back the weight restriction was 10 lbs for another 2 or so weeks. 10 lbs is a lot lighter than you think. (My very young 11lb cat QUICKLY realized I couldn't pick him up off of things and took advantage so hard, luckily I had help to retrieve him that first week when I couldn't even shove him off things)
My surgeon insisted I walk around at least 3 times the day of surgery(to avoid possible blood clots in the legs) and walk around some each day after. But at least 2 of my friends had surgeon's who insisted on complete bed rest the first week. The friend who stayed with me spent half the time staring at me incredulously because I was constantly having to force myself not to try to do more than I could and the last time they did this, the person spent the whole time in bed/was in a lot more pain/etc (which is why I note very strongly that every recovery is different). Meanwhile day 1 something about the anesthesia/pain med combo? I was WIRED. I couldn't sit still or sleep. I paced and chatted at a mile a minute until after 2am. (Given that, I am very lucky I was not stuck on bed rest. I would have SCREAMED)
Other Things it would have been nice to know
I had the stitches that dissolve over time. They do this at different rates. It can sting quite a bit actually. A lot of first aid creams have something numbing. It won't hurt to use them after initial recovery, because when I say at different rates I mean I didn't start having the stinging until after a month. I found I mostly had issues with the nipple grafts, not the main incision, but just on one side. Also? Don't worry too much about bits of what looks like puss. That is normal when they break down slowly, it's most likely not an infection. Basically, ask the nurse during a follow up if you have any concerns, but don't worry about it too much.
If you are a side sleeper, you will probably try to do that sooner than you can comfortably. I would suggest maybe to have a body pillow to either side to sandwich yourself and block turning. This didn't happen for me until I started recovering, but yeah, I definitely did not have a safe guard in place for when it did and that was painful/also difficult to get up from without trying to support too much of my own weight.
Remember that suggestion of a friend? I knew it in advance, but I really didn't know how much I'd ask of them. The one who went to the hospital with me had to pick up my prescriptions after I had the surgery. The one who stayed with me had to get me the laxatives and the the bigger shirts/make food runs/get stuff down for me I didn't realize I'd have trouble reaching/wrangle the cat. Just so many errands.

Clinical Trial Supply Chains: All You Need to Know
Tumblr media
Clinical trial supply and logistics networks guarantee that study locations get the resources they require throughout the duration of the investigation. This enables patient visits to take place without being hampered by a lack of medications, supplies, or equipment.
The COVID-19 epidemic put supply chains to the test. According to the Capgemini Research Institute's Supply Chain Study, 74 percent of firms encountered delayed shipments/longer lead times, and 68 percent had items held up in ports or at borders, among other concerns. Let's look at how you can make your organization's research supply chain less sensitive to interruption.
What is a Supply Chain?
A clinical trial supply logistics supply chain comprises everyone involved in the manufacturing and distribution networks. This includes the manufacturers and logistical companies that transport inputs from one step to the next. In addition to wholesalers, distributors and retailers need to ensure that items are available to consumers who desire them.
A complex network of relationships shapes supply networks. These linkages influence not just the movement of resources from one location to another but also the incentives for businesses to spend on developing new products.
Recent Changes to Supply Chains
Supply networks are more complicated, linked, and global than they have ever been. While the growing globalization of manufacturing has helped lower consumer costs in the United States, it also means that these supply chains are more vulnerable to disruption than ever before. As compared to previous years, organizations have observed a considerable increase in the number of supply chain interruptions since 2020.
While COVID-19 was the primary cause of recent issues, additional events were part of recent big supply chain disruptions and may create future disruptions. Among these occurrences are:
Natural disasters
Cyberattacks
Transportation disruptions in both container shipping and trucking
Political instability and wars/conflicts
It is becoming increasingly crucial to understand how to encourage rapid healing. It is also critical for businesses to have a strong incentive to spend in order to strengthen their supply and clinical trial logistics procurement networks. This is critical even if they may not be able to fully monetize the advantages of these investments owing to spillover effects to other sections of the networked system.
Problems with the Supply Chain
The frequency and magnitude of clinical trial supply chain logistics-related hazards increase as networks become increasingly integrated. Organizations have had to:
Assist in reducing the impact on production
They must reassess their supply chains to ensure product availability.
Examine manufacturing models.
Build a strategic inventory.
Minimize your dependency on just-in-time production.
Companies also keep less inventory on hand as a result of outsourcing or transferring manufacturing elsewhere. Businesses that previously relied on purchasing items rapidly for a just-in-time production strategy have experienced not only delays but also the inability to supply goods at expected or contractual quantities. According to 25.3 percent of firms, this had a severe, serious, or catastrophic impact on their business.
According to the BCI COVID-19: The Future of Supply Chain research, which was released in June 2020, 19.6 percent of firms expect to store more products as a direct result of COVID-related disruptions. According to the President's Economic Report, 40 percent of containerized imports into the United States pass via the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, where rising demand for products, combined with chronic labor shortages, has caused considerable delays.
Even supply chains with no manufacturing issues experienced delivery congestion. Furthermore, the hazards to a supply chain might increase as global links increase since a disruption in one jurisdiction affects suppliers in all other nations.
Study Supply Chain Impact on Clinical Trials
By July 2020, about 200 businesses had discontinued or postponed clinical studies because of the pandemic, with an estimated 80% of non-COVID-19 clinical trials paused or stopped. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted clinical trial supply networks, as it has disrupted other sectors of the global supply chain.
As the epidemic progressed, delays persisted for months, and ongoing experiments were impeded as any inventory redundancies placed throughout their supply chain deteriorated. Persistent, high-level supply chain shortages spanned all sectors of health care, with 8 to 10 times as many commodities in short supply as before the pandemic.
The clinical trial supply chain was further hampered by raw material shortages, governmental allotment of medical auxiliary supplies, and transportation difficulties. These interruptions have heightened the need of solid supplier and courier partnerships. Every delay, from equipment and supplies failing to arrive on schedule at a clinical facility to patients being unable to complete their appointments, causes an avalanche of consequences. These consequences might range from lower patient retention to longer time to market.
Making Clinical Trial Supply Chains Resilient
It is critical for the management team to concentrate on reducing supply chain risk through supply chain resilience. The capacity of your firm to plan for, respond to, and recover from disruptions in a timely and cost-effective manner is referred to as supply chain resilience.
Techniques to strengthen your clinical trial supply chain include:
Understanding the supply chain structure of your company
Purchasing backup capacity
Increasing the diversity of your supply base
Increasing your capacity to replace goods
The disadvantage is that these measures, particularly redundancy, raise expenses. Regrettably, there is no cost-effective technique that your organization can invest in to eliminate all risks from your research supply chain.
Strategies to Mitigate Clinical Study Supply Chain Risks
There is no single best approach to managing a supply chain, and even within the same industry, diverse solutions are frequently used. The following are some best practices to consider while minimizing clinical trial supply chain risks:
Business continuity planning entails your company's strategy for continuing vital business functions in the event of an unanticipated incident.
Diversification entails broadening your network of suppliers and transportation partners.
Agility - The rapidity with which changes in product and decision-making may occur.
Business continuity planning that includes a focus on supply chain risk is critical for proactively identifying vulnerabilities to your supply chain before they materialize, so that alternatives or relief actions may be created ahead of time.
By establishing a larger network of suppliers to deliver goods and services, you may avoid inventory shortages. It is critical to have a strong vendor certification procedure in place to guarantee that new suppliers are trustworthy, product quality is sufficient, and inventory levels are appropriate. It is critical to do due diligence on all important suppliers to guarantee that they will fulfill the proper quality and safety requirements as well as supply needs.
The more agility your organization has to:
Make swift purchase selections,
purchase strategic inventory on the spot when it becomes available,
accept new merchants,
choose suitable product substitutes,
Provide as much product and equipment flexibility as is feasible in the clinical study procedure.
The easier it will be to navigate many clinical trial supply chain challenges,.
Strengthening Your Study Supply Chain
Developing ties with essential suppliers is critical. This, combined with allowing new suppliers in, product flexibility, contingency planning, and CTMS software logistics, can assist you in meeting your continuous demand for products and services.
Octalsoft’s clinical software suite has prioritized supply chain resilience and taken the necessary steps to assure continuity and minimize interruptions. Book a demo with us now to learn more about how Octalsoft can help you power through clinical trial supply chain roadblocks.

Tips For Buying The Best Nephrostomy Bag in Tampa Bay and Hialeah, FL
Being confined to bed due to a health condition can have a derogatory effect on the mind. A long-standing disease requires close attention with specialized care. This may be possible within a hospital but the patient diagnosed with severe kidney ailment may also be discharged and allowed to remain at home with effective care being provided as necessary. It becomes necessary to source a quality nephrostomy bag in Tampa Bay and Hialeah, FL when one is afflicted with kidney stones, infection, or trauma of the urinary system.   It becomes difficult to pass urine normally in such circumstances. The solution here is to place a tube known as the catheter into the kidney through a small aperture created surgically. The urine flows continuously and may be collected into the nephrostomy bag that is meant to collect the drained-out urine.
It is not too difficult to purchase the right bag, however. Most medical supplies stores have them in stock. Moreover, one may connect with a pharmacy or a medical facility and order the required number of bags for drainage of urine. The best way to source such bags is to order online and have them delivered right to the doorstep.
The types of bags are usually classified as sterile and non-sterile. While the smaller bags may be worn on the body, the larger ones are far removed from the body and often come with a urinary drainage chamber for more containment of urine passed throughout the night.
A person with a kidney ailment may not need to be confined to the bed 24/7. Many patients attend to their jobs despite having a catheter attached to their body. The drainage bag here is strapped to their leg, allowing them to go about their business without any restrictions. The larger bags are noticeable and may be used by patients who do not have to venture out. Apart from strapping them high on the thigh, such bags may also be placed on a stand.
Some of the features of the leg bag or the smaller drainage bags that need to be considered carefully before adding them to the shopping cart include:-
· Material- The most popular drainage bags are crafted from thin plastic with some fabric at the back. This makes it comfortable against the skin. They remain unnoticeable when worn under the clothing. They may be secured to the thigh or the lower legs. However, one may opt to wear them on the waist as well
· Capacity- The leg bags are available in various sizes with capacities varying from 250 ml to 600 ml. One may ask for a 750 ml bag, too. A patient should use bags of different capacities at different times of the day based on the optimum flow of urine
It is equally important to buy wound care supplies in Tampa Bay and West Palm Beach, FL, in bulk to have them handy as needed. Apart from dressing the wounds caused by injury, the supplies may be required regularly to clean surgical sites

hello babes & congrats on 1.7k!! ❤️ could i please request option two with walking dead as the fandom? my name is noelle & i’m a bisexual cis female (she/her pronouns). i’m also an entp & gryffindor! i LOVE to travel & i value experiences over possessions. my family is very important to me and i also really want to have children in the future. having quiet time to myself is very important to me. my dream job is either a bartender or something to do with traveling (possibly a flight attendant) <3 i’m also considered “the funny one” & the ‘wild child.’ i also struggle/have struggled with anxiety, depression, suicide, substance abuse & eating disorders. i love to read books and write (mostly journal entries & poems). i love my job as a coffee shop barista and i also enjoy going on spontaneous adventures! i love camping, swimming and anything to do with nature. i have a navel piercing, a sagittarius (my zodiac sign!) arrow tattoo below my neck and a fig tattoo (from the fig tree in sylvia plath’s ‘the bell jar.’) on the back of my arm. my style is very 70s mixed with early 2000s. my family is considered lower class & i also thrift literally everything i own. i’m 5’3 & have long dark blonde hair with blue eyes, i’m pretty chubby but i have a great ass lol. thank you so so much!! :)
hi!
thank you for participating :)
since you don’t have a gender preference, i’m gonna tell you from both the boys and girls who i ship you with, and then do the full thing for who i think you’re better suited for.
i ship you with maggie and alden. i’m gonna go with maggie for this, hope that’s ok :)
i think maggie would see a lot of herself in you. she’d definitely understand what it was like to he considered the “wild child.” but as she got older, she’d also learned the importance of family and friends, and i think she’d really appreciate that you value those things too. the communities would become your families, so you’d always have other people in your life, but she’d definitely consider you part of her closest family.
i think maggie has a lot of darkness in her. she’s been through a lot in her life, and she’s lost a lot of people. she’s pretty much got grieving down to a science, but it still really gets to her sometimes. she’s just gotten good at hiding it. and because of that, she’d be really good at telling when you were feeling down or struggling. she’d do the best she could to help you cope with anything you were dealing with, and you’d do the same for her.
i consider maggie to be very attentive and observant. if you ever told her about anything you liked—before the fall or after—shed remember it. and when she’d go in runs, she’d keep an eye out for things you’d mentioned missing or wanting. scouting through a upper class relatively untouched neighborhood, the group would spend most of their time looking for food and gas, or maybe some medical supplies. she’d do the same, but she’d also spent a little time going through the closets and bedrooms to look through the clothes. the group could always use good jackets or new shoes.
when the group would get back home and settle in for the night, she’d come and find you. she’d pull out a gold necklace with a dolphin pendant dangling from her palm. she’d hold it out to you, smiling when your face lit up.
“like it?”
“i love it!” you’d smile, turning around so she could put it on you. “where’d you get it?”
“remember that corner store we passed on the way out of town? i saw you looking at it in the window. figured i’d circle back to it on our way out.”
you’d turn around again to face her. she’d reach out to touch the pendant, a fond smile making its way onto her face.
“my sister had one just like it. she got it when my daddy took us and our step brother to the beach one summer. she begged and begged for it, and daddy could never say no to those big innocent eyes and little coy smile. it was hers by the end of the trip—she didn’t take it off for months after that.”
you’d give her an affectionate smile, reaching out to take her hand. you’d run your thumb across the ring on her finger, twisting it around. her cheeks would heat up, making you chuckle.
“i love it…thank you for getting it for me. did you see anything you liked while you were there? maybe we could go back together sometime. it’s only fair i pick you out something.”
she’d grin, nodding. “sure, hon.”
thank you again for participating! i hope you liked this :)

Things You Need To Keep Them Dry While Enjoying Water Sports
Participating in water events during a vacation near the beach or lake effectively makes the warm summer cool and beautiful. When the weather gets better, you want to visit a water destination to taste the thrill of watersports. While popular events like kayaking, surfing, jet skiing, and scuba diving occupy your heart, all your belongings should stay dry till your reach the dry land. Here are some essentials you should keep dry all the time.
First aid kit
When rafting and kayaking on the water surface, you should not take a chance on safety. Even though the water current seems amicable at first sight, you never know if a wrong footing or a sudden surge of wind can topple your kayak. In addition, a situation like a boat capsizing or a strong wave against the canoe can wet you throughout.
Protecting your medicines and kits from water is mandatory, although your body can survive wetness. Storing all medical emergency supplies in the best dry bag for kayaking can prevent water and dirt from ruining them.
Toiletries
If you aim to enjoy camping near a beach or a rapid river, the trip would be incomplete without touching and feeling water. Toiletries are necessary for a trip that involves staying at a campground for a night or two. Dry clothes and shoes can go in the backpack, but soaps, toothpaste, and hand wash require a special compartment in the bag. An alternative for keeping them dry is using a waterproof bag to carry them easily. You can buy auto-sealing backpacks from a company that specializes in dry bags.
Electronics
No matter how much you adore beautiful nature, taking a boat ride to a strange land without a communication device is ridiculous. Carrying electronic items such as cellphones, chargers, cameras, navigation devices, batteries, and flashlight is crucial for a long trip. A drop of water can damage the electrical circuit if you fall into the water. So pack your electronics neatly in a waterproof bag to ensure they are in good condition.
Foods
If you are going somewhere far from the hotel room, you have to take some edibles for the day. Someone might use a plastic bag to carry packaged foods, but monitoring all the leftover snacks is difficult when you have to sail through high currents. Taking your snacks in an automatic dry bag is a better option to prevent food spoilage. All you have to do is pack them separately in a plastic pouch and store it inside the dry bag so that food crumbs don’t touch other items on the move.
When you prepare for a fabulous trip to your dream destination with sand and water, add a dry bag for snorkeling to your checklist. So you can enjoy observing the enchanting underwater scenery while your belongings are safe in the bag.

My #lymechallenged brain has been pretty much absent the past couple of days. I have spent much of it in bed. I guess the trip to that neurologist zapped every bit of my energy. It doesn't help that it has been cold and rainy the past two days, today is the third with no sunshine and the forecast is not looking hopeful. I loathe winter! I guess I should just be thankful it is not snowing!! But I still think I need to be laying on a beach on some tropical island with a never ending supply of cocktails brought to me by a gorgeous cabana boy.
Awww, but it is not to be. So I am here at home, in Arkansas, freezing my caboose off, wondering if I will have the strength and endurance to at least get out of the chair or the bed for a while today. This disease/illness (and this crappy weather) have me in a funk. As if you couldn't tell. But, I am going to try to push on and get back to telling you the first years of my journey with Lyme. Yes, I am going to have to go back to the other post and see where I got to. Don't judge me.
Yes, here we go. I was saying that I had been told I was positive for Lyme disease and was very slowly starting to feel better. I had not picked a tick off of myself in well over a year, so I was going to start researching Lyme disease. Little did I know that I would still be researching 10 years later. So back in 2012 when I started looking into Lyme, mind you I was still pretty sick. My brain was constantly in a fog and I would have to try and fight through it if I wanted to retain even a paragraph of anything I read. I took LOTS of notes. I printed and saved thousands of pages, I filled up notebooks. One drawer in my file cabinet is nothing but notes, articles, studies, etc. on Lyme and others (from here on out "the others" will be in reference to co-infections and other tick-borne illnesses). Another drawer is dedicated to my personal medical records over the past 10 years. One small four shelf book case is full of books written about Lyme and others. Books by Dr. Rawls, Kris Newby, Yolanda Hadid and several others. And the trains have started competing for the same track already this morning.
Let's go back to 2012 again. I am still very weak and fatigued every day and night. It did not matter how much sleep or rest I got, it seemed as if I would never get well enough to go back to college and work. I honestly do not remember going to the grocery store for at least the rest of that year. If I did, I pity the people that saw me. If it weren't such a small town where everyone knew everyone they probably would have thought I was either drunk or high on something. By December of that year, I had made a little progress, not much mind you, but I could at least do some cleaning and could sit in the living room for a little bit without having to lay down. While my daughter was on Christmas break from school, she had a friend stay over one weekend. For reasons I could never fathom, those two decided they needed to go to Wal-Mart. At 3 in the morning. They were both 16 and it's a small town. I knew all the cops. And our Wal-Mart is not a real busy place at 3 in the morning. They would be okay. I let them take my car. It was a 1996 Nissan Sentra and my daughter hated it. But if she wanted to go to Wal-Mart, either her or her friend were going to have to drive it. I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. My car, that is. We had an agreement. As long as it got me where I needed to go and back home without breaking down, I wouldn't take it to the scrap yard. So she took care of me and I took care of her. This agreement obviously did not stand between my daughter and my car. About 3:30 a.m. my phone rang and I knew it had to be her before I even picked my phone up. I was right. It was her. Her and her friend were having fits because they couldn't get the car to start and there were 3 young guys that had followed them around the store while they were in there and now they were walking towards the car. I told her to leave the windows rolled up and the doors locked and lay on the horn. I was calling the cops. I am seriously good friends with the police here. I went to high school with all of them. I had each of their cell phone numbers! I called every one of them and none of them answered their phones. I called the police station and no one answered that phone either!! What the heck? Was the bank being robbed or something? We did not have a 911 dispatcher in our town at that time. If I called 911, it was answered in a town 30 minutes away then they had to call our police station. I had just done that and no one answered and 3 guys are walking up to the car that my daughter and her friend have locked themselves in at 3:30 in the morning so I have no vehicle because they have mine and for some reason it will not start. I am still very weak and have lost muscle mass. I somehow managed to drag myself out of bed and I walked the one mile to Wal-Mart. I was almost dead by the time I got there but I made it by shear will power. The guys had taken off when my daughter started honking the horn. My daughter unlocked the car and got in the back seat. I got in and the car started right up. They both swore up and down that it absolutely would not start for them! Whatever. We are going home and I am going to bed and you two are not to leave this house until I wake up! The things a momma can and will do to protect her child…even when she is two feet away from her death bed!!
Trains going every which way again today so I think I am going to stop for now. Just know that this is an ongoing thing for me. I would love it if everyone sticks around. I promise it won't always be about me.
Until next time,
lymechallenged

Keeping Up With A Himbo: V (I)- Melatonin? Melanin?
Series Summary: A series of domestically fluffy snippets where the s/o of a Sparda learns just how much of a himbo their lover is.
Work Summary: A riveting tale in which V gives you serotonin by confusing melatonin for melanin.
Tags/Warnings: Gender-Neutral! S/O, Medical Inaccuracies, V Is Stupid Too, Maybe Rodeo Made Him Too Stupid, Heatwaves, Domestic Fluff, Comedy, Grocery Store Runs
V was not great with excess sunshine and heat. However, it was the summer and that was all there was. Strolls became unbearable as he would rather sleep in with you and wound up waking at the most sweltering temperature.
You were fine with it, opting to wear things that left more skin showing. Tantalizing as it was, it was harder to appreciate when he himself practically boiled in the leather he was used to wearing. He sadly gave up his usual garb for shorts and tank tops, his favorite sandals replaced as well.
It was the end of the week, meaning you would have to restock your shared apartment’s rations of food and supplies. You grabbed your wallet and keys, sliding on a pair of shoes. Sunglasses in hand, you called out for your boyfriend.
“V, if you don’t want to go, I can go myself.” He sighed, grabbing his cane and walking out the door with you.
“You know that won’t do.”
Redgrave was beautiful during the summer. With the clear sky and warm weather, it was as if this place didn’t actually crawl with demons.
While you basked in the sun, feeling the heat seep into your skin and radiate outwards, V wished for an iceberg to fall on him.
It was HOT. He insisted on wearing black and he paid for it every time. It was as if the sun had parked herself right on top of him and he already knew he was turning pink.
Tousling his hair, he groaned at how hot the top of his head was. The two of you had just started on your walk and the concrete had been waiting, heatwaves practically jumping off the surface. At least you were happy.
“V? V? Are you okay?” He snapped out of his stupor, tilting his head to greet your inquiry.
“Yes? Forgive me, it’s a bit warm.” You laughed at your grumpy poet.
“Yeah, a little. I’ll be sure to get some sunscreen for you.”
“Please do. I’d hate to repeat last time.”
“Oh yeah, I remember! You burned so bad at the beach.” V shivered despite the weather. He had decided to partake of the beach with the rest of the devil hunters and Nico. Your bathing suit was so enticing on your frame yet he could never forget how his skin peeled off from the unforgiving sun.
“Maybe you don’t produce a lot of melanin. Y’know, the stuff in your skin that absorbs the sun’s rays.” You explained, finally stepping foot into an air-conditioned grocery store.
V sighed, pink skin cooled before he could burn anymore.
“Perhaps.” A grocery cart in hand, you trekked about the store with V.
Through the produce section, V grabbed a few apples while you inspected a head of lettuce. V noted you bought materials for hamburgers, his favorite.
You went to grab some sunscreen afterward, knowing you’re going to need a lot for V.
Meanwhile, V thought about what you said earlier. He stood next to you in the aisles, the shelf behind him full of multivitamins. A certain bottle caught his attention.
What was it that protected human skin from the sun? It started with an M. Careful hands plucked the bottle from its place. Colorful with a picture of the moon and sun, he decided that these gummies were what he was looking for.
“This might do.” He threw it in the cart with the sunscreen you found.
V was putting the groceries on the conveyer belt when you decided you wanted ice cream and ran to the freezers.
Luckily you returned quickly. The previous time you did a last-minute run, you were gone for too long and V had to stand there awkwardly in the perception of many pissed customers.
In your hands, you held the cold delicacies that V predicted you would consume all of them in an hour and regret it.
White grocery bags in hand, V walked right back outside. You had already gotten started on a popsicle, offering V several licks.
When you got back home, V put the bags on the counter to find the sunscreen and medicated gummies. He swiftly placed them in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom.
Looking into the mirror, he mussed up his hair again. You had a spare hair tie on the sink which he used to tie his hair back.
After dinner, V decided to eat some of the gummies. He took a generous amount. They were rather sweet with a slightly gritty texture. He wondered how long they would take to work, never wanting to sunburn ever again.
Laying on the couch half an hour later, he found himself tired. Almost aggressively tired. He wasn’t even outside for that long, so he marked heatstroke off his list of what could have made him so exhausted. The book in his hands became the book on his face and he fell fast asleep.
When he woke up, he felt groggy, his head weighted by wet cement. His back hurt with the precarious way he laid on the couch.
You heard the sound of him waking up, a raspy groan leaving him while he stretched.
“Good morning. I hope you weren’t too lonely without me last night.” He said. You looked over the kitchen counter with a grin. He coughed, his throat dry.
“More like overmorrow.” He got up lazily, confused. He looked at his skin, noting no difference. Did the supplements work?
“V...you slept for an entire day and a half. I didn’t want to bother you but I did have to check your pulse a few times. Had to make sure that you were still alive.” V walked into the bathroom, seeing a couch imprint on his face, half of his hair completely flat to his face.
“Perhaps it’s just a side effect of those melanin supplements I got.” You snapped your head around from making breakfast, confused.
“What.” He made his way into the kitchen. V ruffled his bed head, handing you the bottle. The cupboard was opened and closed, V chugging a glass of water. Leaning against the counter, he watched you examine the bottle in disbelief.
“Sweetie-” You pointed to the melatonin medication. A rising sun with a cartoony smile and a sleeping moon was printed on the plastic surface.
“Why did you take these?”
“To have more melanin.” You turned around, and V found you with an expression that said “I want to scream like a pterodactyl for a moment.”
“V, melanin is a pigment. Melatonin is a sleep medication. This is melatonin. Baby, you just ate half a jar of sleep gummies.” You emphasized the pronunciation of melanin and melatonin.
V’s eyes went blank, just realizing his mistake.
“Oh.”
You didn’t stop laughing for an hour. He never heard the end of it.

Fuyuhiko and Kaito x Trans Male S/O
Fuyuhiko Kuzuryu:
·       Truthfully Fuyuhiko didn’t know much about being trans other than some people were born in the wrong body and needed a change or several for it to be comfortable. He didn’t really understand the social stigmas or how harmful stereotypes of being such could be, but after meeting you and becoming friends, he wanted to learn more. Fuyuhiko was loyal to anyone he cared about, and he cared about his friends so even before getting together he wanted to do his best for you. He did extensive research from medical journals to subreddits and blogs to learn all he could and not accidentally insult you without even realizing it.
·       Being the heir of a yakuza family, Fuyuhiko did have a bit more extra money than the average person so anything you needed he’d provide for, from surgeries, to medication, to any other supplies. He found it ridiculous that people had to pay so much just to be who they were, but that was the world you lived in, and at the very least he could make life easier for you.
·       Spring was coming to an end and Chiaki had decided to organize a few field trips for it, some more casual, some more fancy, and Fuyuhiko insisted that you go clothes shopping with him. First was to get a tailor made suit, then to get some loose beach ware at some random clothing store.
·       “How about these?” “Swimming trunks?” “… Yeah, what else?” You hesitated, instead picking up a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. “I’m gonna head to the changing room, alright?” “No. You’re going to tell me what’s wrong.” “Ah… so you saw right through me.” “Of course I could. You weren’t exactly hiding it.” You sighed, very well knowing you couldn’t hide away from your boyfriend, but… you were unable to look him in the eye as you spoke, feeling a little ashamed. “I was just thinking of maybe not getting in the water, just wear loose things, or if I have to go in, maybe still hear a shirt, or wetsuit, or something, I, I don’t know.” As you spoke your voice quieted down to but a mumble towards the end. Fuyuhiko simply stood before you, his arms crossed, as if waiting for something. “i… I don’t know if I’ll be allowed to go topless, and have to change and I just… rather avoid the trouble.” “Why, you’re a man, there should be no problem.” “Others might not see me that way... once they see the scars... You remember what happened when we went to the bathhouse, right?” Fuyuhiko flinched back as if he were physically hurt recalling that school trip, how the bath house employees forced you to be with the girls because you were born one, even though you clearly didn’t look like one. “No, they will. I’ll personally make sure of that.” You were almost tempted to ask how, then you remembered your boyfriend was the literal heir of the greatest yakuza clan in japan, and you were quickly able to realize what he was speaking of. “Just wear whatever you want, go in a clown suit for all I care, just make sure it’s something you’re comfortable in and won’t easily get you to pass out due to heatstroke or something.” “… Thank you, Fuyu.” You smiled, walking off to look at some other items, leaving Fuyuhiko behind, hurting a little that you were compelled to thank him for just treating you with some basic decency and making sure you were treated like anyone else. Perhaps… with the power of his family, he could make Japan into a place where you wouldn’t have to feel compelled to thank someone for treating you as human. Then after Japan, perhaps expand his reach and work on the rest of the world.
   Kaito Momota:
·       There were many fights. Not between you two, well sometimes, but more so Kaito punching anyone for even the smallest slight towards you, and often Kaito would drag you into said fights, by the end you both bloodied and bruised, but Kaito would be smiling glad you weren’t afraid of defending yourself. Really you were more so forced into it and trying to protect him, but at least he was happy about all that.
·       Kaito was always eager to go to any hospital or therapy visits he could. He seemed to just do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, but he acted as your time keep of sorts, always reminding you when you had sessions or when to take medication and whatnot. He also added his own things like exercise, some things to help you get toned or just be a little more healthy. And you always had fun dragging Kaito into these exercises, no matter how much he protested saying he was healthy enough already. You playing to his ego and saying you needed him to work out with you for encouragement and motivation usually did the trick.
·       “… You’ve been sitting at that computer for too long.” “Work. Can’t go.” “Yeah work. So, work has you playing videogames.” “… Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss. Definitely yes.” “Uh-huh.” Kaito leaned over the back of the chair pressing the button he knew would pause the game. “Hey-wh-” Before you knew it you were being pulled up by the collar of your shirt and dragged away. “Come on. You need to get that blood pumping!” After tossing you out he dashed back inside. “Hey! Where the hell do you think you’re going!?” “Getting you some weights!” “… Huh?” “You need to bulk up and show everyone how manly you are so…” He raced back, shoving something into your arms as he ran past. You were confused why he was so eager till you noticed what he gave you for a ‘weight’. His fancy telescope case. Looking up, you noticed how there was not a cloud in the sky and the sun was setting.
·       “Hah! THAT’S my man!” A bright laughter boomed from Kaito seeing you dash past him, getting him to pick up his pace, the pair of you just trying to beat one another to your favorite hill.
