2024 Media Wrapped

My favorite films of 2024! I watched quite a few movies towards the end of last year, especially after I graduated, and found myself with some free time. There were so many wonderful animated films released in 2024! I truly hope that animation and animators receive the recognition they deserve in the coming year.

My favorite shows of 2024! I thought I wouldn't watch many shows this year! Honestly, I had a hard time finishing and connecting with most of them. But I still managed to curate a list of my favorites, and I realized it's actually quite a lot! They are all so good!

My favorite reads of 2024! I read a whole bunch this year (heck yeah!!!)! I was able to get back to enjoying novels, dedicating an hour each afternoon to reading a physical book. It brought back some wonderful memories. I didn't binge-read many manga/manhwa, but they were absolutely fantastic when I did! I also can't resist a good romance/shoujo story – they always make me giggle and blush huhu! And let's not forget the batfam comics! They were amazing this year! All in all, what a fantastic year for reading!

My favorite music of 2024! I tried to resist the urge to fill my top songs list with silly tunes that made me want to dance and bop my head uncontrollably! It was a struggle because I just can't help myself (embracing the cringe)! This year, I delved into many different genres and discovered incredible artists, making it incredibly difficult to narrow down my favorites. Movie scores were absolutely fantastic – I love how powerful music can be in certain scenes. Give me all that cinematic ecstasy (shakes uncontrollably)! And of course, the pop princesses continued to rule my heart. Amen to good music!

Generally, when I think about the media I've loved, I try to remember where I was when I first experienced it. What did it make me feel? Am I still completely obsessed with it, or does it still evoke that special feeling whenever I think back on it? I think I've curated a pretty good list, even though I can be super indecisive!

Memes aside I do keep thinking about how no one jumps for the beef. Your options are uncooked chicken or uncooked beef. The beef is marginally better; it’ll keep you further from starvation for just a little longer than the chicken would.

Only, the risk of reaching for it is greater than the risk of reaching for the chicken, and the fall could cost you your life, for all you know or all that matters.

Your hunger is kept low enough that you can’t sprint, and you’re never really taught how to parkour, are you? You’re kept on this level because you failed the jump when they tested you. You learn as you navigate this one-block-jump world.

(Maybe you don’t try at all. What’s the point?)

(Maybe you try and fail.)

You decide to jump for the beef, and live to tell the tale. Later, you get lucky enough to win the opportunity to try to rank up. You jump for the beef again. The parkour between your level and the next is just harder parkour, and you’ve gotten better at it throughout your time here, haven’t you? If you reach the top, you secure your place among the highest of the highs.

Only, the parkour’s final jump is impossible. No matter how good you’ve become, you can never beat the rigged system. The beef, should you choose to risk the fall, is a possible feat. You thought this would be, too.

You go home blaming yourself for a jump you couldn’t make or you die trying, clinging to the belief of fairness. The beef, for all its fanfare, couldn’t save you.

You don’t jump for the beef again.
