Dual Mode: Toxic Sky Dragon

for @ft-platonicweek 2024, Day 6 [Prompt: Unison Raid]

This was the perfect excuse to draw one of my lowkey favorite dragon pairs, for that beautiful opposite-but-similar older and younger sibling energy. This technically counts as a sneak peak for HTRYDS but oh well, tis the season for the Unison Raid prompt and I couldn't resist. :3

Angel goes quiet. David cuddles it out of them.

Aggro got off of Sweetheart's lap calmly one time. Sweetheart looked so heartbroken and then annoyed that they're so sensitive. Milo shifted on sight and they cuddled on the floor.

Babe snapped at Asher one time and then immediately apologized. Asher sniffed at the air and smelled it. The next eight hours were spent with Asher fussing over them.

Guy has never moved as fast as he did when he turned the AC on and put out the weighted blanket and shimmied beside Honey like a slug. That Honey happened to be dating. He peeked out of the blanket at them and giggled "your prescribed cuddles have arrived! I'm not a licensed doctor, but we'll make it work"

Aight, so this is kinda what I’ll call a “Miscellaneous Post” as I’ve had this in my folders for a while.

This drawing was from a CG concept I had. Most y’all know this by now but Laura (Mika’s mother) is a nephalim in my version of SM and also had some… personal beef with the Demon Lord to say the least. He’s the reason she lost an eye and a wing and that’s all I’ll say.

Her being half angel makes her pretty much immune to enthrallment and able to sense auras. Aka, she’s immediately aware of the boys’ true nature and instead of standing on the side, she decides to be direct and confront the boys in an interrogation type way. If this was an in game thing, it would be a minigame where each boy has a role to play in trying to deescalate the tension in order to gain Laura’s trust.

Each boy’s role can be divided into three main mechanics, Convince, Deescalate and Hint.

Convince is James and Sam. The mechanic of convince is that Laura has two meters, Trust and Favor. Being honest increases trust, being careful increases favor.

James is careful, he’s great at speaking eloquently but he also hides the more unsavory details. Generally speaking, he increases favor and occasionally decreases trust when he has to lie.

Sam is honest, he doesn’t sugarcoat and sees no reason to lie to the woman who’s smart enough to figure out their entire lineage. Generally speaking, he increases trust and occasionally decreases favor when he says a more unsavory truth.

You’ll have to alternate between the two to fill the meters adequately as James and Sam become less effective the more you use just one character.

Deescalate is Erik and Matthew. The deescalate mechanic covers the last, semi invisible meter. Tension. Slowly, with every question, the screen will have a dark golden effect growing from the sides. This is the current amount of tension in the room. It could also kill your run if it gets too high so you have the ability to select “Deescalate” and are left with two choices, an Erik choice and a Matthew choice. It’s not always obvious which one is correct so choosing either is a risk.

Erik is high risk, high reward. He’s very good at lightening tension with flattery however Laura is already pissed at him for putting a spell on Mika (the prologue kiss) so if he says the correct option, tension decreases significantly however, the reverse is also true.

Matthew is low risk, low reward. He’s not as good at lowering tension but Laura has no direct reason to be angry with him so saying the right option slightly lowers tension and the wrong option does nothing.

Keep in mind, sometimes they’re both correct and sometimes they’re both incorrect. If they both can lower tension, Erik’s option is best, if they both fail to lower tension, you should pick Matthew to avoid raising tension.

Finally, the hint mechanic is Damien. Because he can read Laura’s mind, he can tell his brothers generally their progress in the minigame with all three stats. He could even give a hint on how to lower tension so the player knows whether to risk it with Erik or play safe with Matthew. This comes with a massive cap as you can only use the ability five times before Laura gets sick of Damien’s meddling and tells him to stop talking. If he still tries, tension is increased to max and the game is immediately lost. So OP but very limited uses.

Get too much tension or fail the interrogation and Laura accuses the boys of trying to abuse her daughter like their father has done. Then, because she’s part angel with ties to heaven, she alerts the angels of the “wayward demons” and the boys will be hunted down for the rest of their days. Aka Game Over.

Pass the interrogation and Laura leaves the boys alone. The higher the favor and trust, the more lore about Laura’s time in the Abyssal Plains and under the Demon Lord’s control you get.

I've been playing through all the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games, and I'm loving it!!!

I started with Chapter One, then The Awakened (2023). Loved every second of them omg. The level of detail on the cases and the clues were incredible. I got stuck very frequently, but that was probably user error for the most part. Walkthroughs helped me get unstuck.

Now I'm playing through all the other games in reverse order. Going from newest to oldest. It's really interesting seeing the game mechanics that become a bit less polished, and disappear. I get to see in a very neat way how the games evolved over time. The Mind Palace for example, is the easiest to navigate in the latest two games. The way it was displayed was a bit different in The Devil's Daughter and Crimes and Punishments. Once I got used to it, I was fine.

I'm at The Testament of Sherlock Holmes now, and the Mind Palace is now a Deduction Board. Same game function, but more rudimentary. In story, it's Watson's notepad.

Another neat thing is the different versions of Holmes and Watson! I love all of them dearly. Chapter One and The Awakened are the same canon. Devil's Daughter is all on its own. I haven't gotten there yet, but it seems that Crimes and Punishments and all the games before them are in the same canon as each other. Testament of Sherlock Holmes references The Awakened (2008), Jack the Ripper, and I think The Hound of Baskervilles as well. It's fun to see references to games I haven't played yet. I'm really looking forward to it.

And a neat thing! 221B Baker Street seems to have the exact same layout in all of the games! It's decorated a bit differently, but the room placements, bookshelves, ect are in the same places!

And looking back, it's neat to see where certain game mechanics came from. I first got to play as Toby the hound dog once in either Devil's Daughter or Crimes and punishments. I forget which. During that playthrough, I was a bit sad to find there was only one time that I got to do that. I was suprised to see in Testament of Sherlock Holmes that I got to play as him multiple times!

And in The Devil's Daughter, you can explore a bit outside your apartment. There's mini games like arm wrestling, boxing, darts, but they don't play a part in the main plot. They were carried over from an earlier game.

It's just really fun! The stories are so interesting thus far. The friendship is wonderful to see in every variation. And it feels great when I complete a puzzle on my own, even if it sometimes takes a while. Highly recommend!
