Can we talk about Steve’s enhanced senses after receiving the serum.

Sure, we think about enhanced eyesight and hearing a lot. Sometimes even enhanced smell. We talk about how that might be overstimulating.

But what about enhanced taste?

It’s no surprise that the food in the 21st century was far more flavorful than the food he grew up with. And he loves the idea of trying new cuisines, expanding his tastes. But do the extra flavors, extra spices and seasonings, do they get overwhelming? When he cooks for people, does he forget how much spice he needs to add for other people because even he can taste even the minimal flavor addition? Does the team tease him for his white boy “salt is the only necessary ‘spice’” meals because he adds so little so that he can taste it without being overwhelmed?

And what about sensation?

How often does he get overstimulated because he can feel even the weakest wind against his skin, do the clothes others call soft still irritate his skin? He tends to run hot, but does his body still react the smallest changes in temperature? Does he have to be careful about how he moves because his body senses the smallest movement and gives him vertigo, or does he simply always know where he is in space and never loses his balance?

And what about pain?

How often does he deflect with “it will heal soon” when asked if he’s hurt after a mission? He lived his entire life in pain before the serum, he knows how to live with it, but how well can he hide not just the fact that despite his quick healing, it still hurts, but it actually hurts more intensely? That sometimes even minor injuries, a scratch or a hit that doesn’t even leave a bruise, hurt like a stab wound or a broken bone for the seconds to minutes before they heal?

And when Bucky comes home, how much does he spiral knowing that maybe Bucky’s sensations are equally enhanced, and his pain is felt more intensely, and oh god how amplified was the pain from the torture he endured?

When Dima finished re-assembling their rifle, they put it across their knees and scanned over the rest of the hold. Their gaze landed on Clint. They narrowed their eyes and signed, ‘Are you well enough to fight?’

Clint gave a crooked smile. ‘I'm okay. Almost healed.’

Steve didn't catch the first part of Dima's reply. It didn't look like ASL. Something about a spider, maybe? Then, ‘Not happy.’ They probably meant Nat would be mad at Clint for ignoring the doctors. Nothing new there.

‘I know,’ Clint said with rolling eyes, ‘But she’ll get over it. I’m fine, and I’m not gonna leave people in danger.’

‘Understood,’ Dima said. ‘Try not to fall off the roof.’

Scoffing, Clint shook his head and went back to setting up his bow. Steve grinned and bumped his shoulder into Dima’s. It was nice that they were still comfortable enough to give Clint shit, even with the sudden shift into action.

Sam had been watching the conversation, though he barely knew any sign. He raised an eyebrow at Steve like he was expecting an explanation. Steve sent him a shrug and an ‘okay,’ but Sam didn’t seem convinced something wasn’t up. Dima’s voice, dry and accented, broke the awkward silence.

“Agent Wilson.”

Sam looked sideways at them. “Yeah?”

“Status?”

“Oh.” He huffed and offered a quick smile. “I’m good to go. You?”

“Optimal,” Dima reported. “Functionality at ninety-nine percent, capable of extended combat.” They cocked their head, thought for a second, and added, “Emotional response largely positive, aside from frustration that potential sexual contact was interrupted.”

Sam cleared his throat, then said, slightly strangled, “Cool. That’s. Yep, thanks for the update.”

Nevertheless, as they often do, Sam’s plan will soon come to fruition, and with it, the ruination of his heart.

The MTH mod team is proud to bring back Marvel Trumps Hate for an eighth run! Inspired by Stony Trumps Hate and Fandom Trumps Hate, our purpose is to encourage fandom unity while raising money for nonprofit organizations that work to protect civil rights, marginalized and oppressed communities, and the environment.

Our fandom-wide fundraiser auction raised $47,000 USD for charity with the help of 180 generous creators and hundreds of bidders last year (and we shattered some records while we were at it). This year, we’re looking forward to raising just as much awareness and money for some Marvel-ous causes!

Creator sign-ups will open in one month’s time, on Sunday, September 14, 12 AM ET (Eastern Time). Creators may offer different types of works such as fics, art, edits, videos, beta services, crafts, and more for any character, ship, or universe in the Marvel multiverse. 

Sign-ups will run until Saturday, September 27, 11:59 PM ET, which should give everyone plenty of time to think about what they’d like to offer, spread the word, and sign up as a creator! 

There will be a preview week from October 12 to October 18, during which potential bidders can peruse all the auctions and start building their list of fanworks to bid on. We will also use this time to make corrections to auction pages before bidding begins.
