honestly instead of MORE NEW RACES that are just reskins of existing races, i'd rather see more customization options given to literally every race that's already playable
like for reals expand how many races can be druids. in fact give every race druids (eventually, obviously that's a lot of work lol). give every race paladins and shamans too. there doesn't have to be an explanation, there doesn't have to be decades-old lore to justify it, there doesn't need to be an intro quest. blizzard doesn't give a shit about their own lore anyway and the average wow player doesn't either, so just do it imo. flip that switch and see people get excited about playing new race/class combos again
remember when we used to get new hairstyles? me either lmao
allied races are a cool concept in WoW but after seeing more haronir stuff im so tired of "larger than average body type" being it's own goddamn race instead of just an option for all races that use the same base model, again lol
#expand demon hunters to draenei and orcs btw#also i will play a mechagnome but ONLY if it's a druid#blizzard i wanna play a zoid#i wanna see some beast wars rp

Let’s talk about the new UA because that’s what we did back then
(We post Kha’zix because the Thri-Kreen have a racial stat block now. Artwork by Sean “Raiko” Ray and West Studios. Made for Riot Games.)
https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/travelers-multiverse
I don’t have much of a blurb about this since I kinda just woke up lol. This UA doesn’t have much of a “theme” beyond “hey look races”, and some are more interesting than others.
Astral Elf
Wouldn’t be a new set of races without another goddamn elf, eh? Well in terms of elves this is certainly one of the better ones. For a start it does the thing that I have said elves have needed to do for awhile (IE have a fucking identity beyond “is good with a bow.”)
Sacred Flame is easily the best option from Astral Fire, although granted when you other options are Light and Dancing Lights that isn’t much of a contest. The fact that this race can choose the stat that dictates their casting (while High Elves can’t lmao) is huge as you can take Sacred Flame on a variety of classes that wouldn’t normally get good damaging cantrips. The two that come to mind are Druid (yes Magic Initiate was an option but this is much more free) and Bard (no need for Divine Soul Sorcerer.)
Radiant Soul was one of the better features of the Undying Warlock (not the Undead Warlock) and it’s kinda interesting that it’s just being added to a base race. It’s not that big of a heal but it’s essentially slightly better Death Ward once per day. Ironically I think this has way more impact early on than in the late game. And yeah you technically have the chance to roll bad and not get to use this ability regardless, but with three coin flips one is bound to be a success.
Trance Proficiencies offers a lot of options for a select few classes: Rogues can now get longbows or heavy crossbows without multiclassing, Monks can pick whatever they fancy for Dedicated Weapon, Druids and Clerics can grab weapons that aren’t in their proficiency list, and you can make a Gish without investing in Gish classes. At first I thought this ability was a lot stronger since I assumed you could also grab skills, but only being able to grab weapons or tools isn’t that good really. Still it’s nice to have one guy who’s guaranteed to be able to use the cool magic weapon the party found.
Autognome
See I considered putting a World of Warcraft Mechagnome as the image for this post but then I remembered that I don’t support rapists.
The choice to make them pure constructs is... odd, especially since WoTC seemingly wants to have their cake and eat it too by making it so you can still be healed by Cure Wounds, Healing Word, and Raise Dead. (Interestingly enough not other healing spells like Mass Healing Word.) I just think if the freaking Warforged can be affected by Hold Person this race should be affected by it too.
Innate Mage Armor race though. I find it odd that their AC is based on DEX as constructs, as I think CON-based AC (like the Loxodons) would’ve made more sense. But I guess after Loxodons they realized how strong that is?
Having a bunch of Blesses in your pocket is boring but definitely useful. It’s a nice trait but it doesn’t feel overly unique. Other than that the tool proficiencies don’t add much (again Warforged lost Integrated Design and then this gets added?) and the rest of the features are just standard construct stuff.
True Life is very interesting though! It essentially gives you access to reliable out-of-combat healing 24/7, or even in-combat if you’re desperate enough. I think you can make a lot of interesting builds with this ability in mind. Ironically enough despite mentioning WoW Mechagnomes I think using this to replicate Bastion from Overwatch would work quite well. But I’m pretty sure Bastion is losing his Self-Repair in Overwatch 2 or whatever...
Giff
Is it just me or is this race a little... boring? You only get two racial abilities: two very strong racial abilities, but still just two abilities.
Innate Savage Attacker is mediocre. It’s been proven numerous times that Savage Attacker is lackluster at best. Advantage on all Strength checks and saves is pretty big but ironically it actually encourages the race to build for stats other than Strength, since Advantage will often work as a safety net for you.
Overall this race is a step down from Loxodons, who I still think are one of if not the best races in 5e in terms of design.
Hadozee
Dexterous Feet are a meme (anyone who’s played a Thief Rogue can tell you that.) The glide trait is mediocre. Race is objectively worse than Simic Hybrid and pretty meh overall. Will be fun to roleplay though.
Plasmoid
Finally something interesting! Man I wish this race existed when I made my Zac build lmao.
Most of these traits are about what I expected from a slime race, but that doesn’t mean it’s weak. The amorphous trait is reserved as a very high level ability for some subclasses (Aberrant Mind) so having it at level 1 is proven to be strong. Resistance to Acid is situational (still useful) but resistance to Poison is very strong as Poison is easily one of the most common damage types.
Having essentially a 10 foot long Mage Hand is... interesting. I don’t know how much it’ll impact gameplay since (again) Mage Hand is so readily accessible. If it was 20 feet this would maybe be a good alternative to Mage Hand but at 10 feet this kinda just feels like a way to play No-Face from Spirited Away.
Thri-Kreen
I think next to Gnolls the Thri-Kreen are the race I’ve been wanting the most as a playable option, although granted that might be because whenever I search “weapons” on D&D Beyond I get “Thri-Kreen (Weapons Variant)” so they may have just been engrained into my memory.
Another innate Mage Armor class although I like the visual of a camouflage carapace! Most of the time when races get Stealth proficiency / advantage it isn’t explained well so I’m glad that this race has some visual association for the player. Having the Aspect of the Moon Eldritch Invocation innately is also pretty nice, as it allows you to do downtime stuff during sleep time as long as it isn’t “strenuous activity.” I have always liked roleplaying races with weird sleeping patterns so I approve of this trait as well.
Secondary Arms is admittedly the most interesting ability... shame that it isn’t all that interesting. Nothing that we haven’t seen from Loxodon, put simply. I like that you can use Light weapons as depending on the DM you can do some interesting things to have a Bonus Action Dual-Wielding attack while still fighting normally. (General Grievous build, anyone?) The other obvious implication is that you can wield an Arcane Focus in your secondary arms, meaning that you can play a Gish with a two-handed weapon. It does have some interesting implications but it’s not earth-shattering. I sort of hoped for more with such a trait.
That’s what Thri-kreen Telepathy provides, ironically enough! I’m a big advocate for innate telepathy and being able to bypass language barriers with this ability makes an already strong race even stronger. Of course the person you’re talking to has to be willing (which has a lot of significance) but overall this does mean that you can easily play a more social role with your bugman.
Final Rankings, I guess
Astral Elf - “Yup that’s definitely an Elf” but it’s far more interesting than the average Elf. 7/10
Autognome - Disappointed with how arguably better this race is when compared to Warforged, but has some unique abilities that present interesting build options. 8/10
Giff - Very boring I’m sorry. There was so much more you could’ve done with this. Not even innate AC? 2/10
Hadozee - Will be played because they’re monke, not because they’re good. 2/10
Plasmoid - One of the more interesting races in this playtest. Some abilities that sound bland but are a lot cooler in practice and some abilities that sound cool but probably won’t have much impact on gameplay overall. 8/10
Thri-kreen - Ironically one of the strongest races in this package for very minor reasons? Has a ton of great utility between ignoring sleep (somewhat), extra arms (not as useful as one might think), and telepathy that bypasses language barriers. Not “overpowered” obviously but the race has perhaps too many good traits. 9/10
If I had to rank the races based on power level it would probably look something like Thri-kreen > Astral Elf > Autognome > Plasmoid > Giff > Hadozee. I absolutely expect Thri-kreen nerfs, nerfs to Astral Elf, and full reworks to everything else lol. Only race that I honestly consider “balanced” at the moment is Plasmoids ironically, although Autognomes are nearly there. (It’s just the weird implications of being a Construct who can take healing spells.)
This UA felt very experimental and I like that. It certainly wasn’t an early progress UA or anything like that, but Wizards of the Coast is clearly far more willing to experiment with the upcoming book and that has me quite hopeful.
I still want Gnolls, WoTC.

The NSR main cast's classes in WOW part 1
-hands-
Tatiana – Prot/Ret Pally - Just began playing and has no clue how anything works, she's usually the secondary tank in raids while Neon mains. Really REALLY wanted to go Destruction Warlock
Neon J – MM hunt / Blood DK - Been playing the longest but refuses to admit it. Does Marksmanship hunter for dungeons and PVP and is one of the best MM hunters in the world PVP wise. Has a lot of the gladiator mounts. ...Like...all of them. Surprisingly bad at Brawler's pub. Decent at tanking when it comes to Blood. You would think his favorite character would be one of the righteous lads but...he's stuck between Mimiron and Kel'thuzad. He hates to admit he likes Kel'thuzad. But...ghost cat? Also Mimiron because he's one of those people in the community that ACTUALLY LIKES gnomes and is genuinely made at the neo-mechagnomes. I agree the neo-mechagnomes suck, why cant we have Mimiron's robot kids?
Zuke – Resto Shaman - Really in it cause May got it, probably the best healer in the raid group. Really likes most of the Pandaren characters, but his favorite is Yulon...green dragon lady...hngh. Likes to collect Toys an tabards and has that one mount you get from being exalted with 20 factions.
Mayday – Survival Hunt - She SOLELY became a hunter so she could name her pet Elliegator, and doesnt understand why Neon plays Marksman because one of the main things about Marksman is you dont use pets, so like, 'BUT THE CUTE ANIMALS!!!'. Absolutely LOVES PVP but is horrid at raids because she always leaves the damned pet taunt on. Has probably pissed Neon and Tati off by pulling the bosses.........intentionally.
DJSS – Balance Druid - Didnt know shit about WoW until the Sayu crew told him to play it, they reccomended the Balance druid since it fit his spacey style, he's just like 'I can turn into a goddamn chicken...?' ...Until he realized he could send falling stars down on his foes and just...fell in love with the space chicken. Cackles at the other DPS lads over his DPS stats since Balance hits HARD.
Dodo – Feral Druid - cat. that is all.
Remi – Affliction Warlock - Affliction sucks but somehow Remi is at the top of the stats....usually, until either Eloni or DJSS begin fighting over who gets #1 DPS rights cause BM and Balance are some awfully heavy hitters. Knows basically all the lore and can and WILL fight Neon over it.
Thats it for now bc im tired...uh...ye.....

i regret this

Post-Punk Revival Though polite and soft-spoken in nature, presenting themself as poised and composed when in public, the left side of their head has been shaved, leaving a cascade of pale blue hair draped over their right shoulder. A spiked leather collar adorns their neck, the color and style matched to their clothing. Two pairs of spiderbite piercings decorate Caythaes lower lip, and their ears are laden with cog and gear style jewelry. Along with the golden ring dangling from their nose and the orange tongue ring that dances in their mouth as they speak, there are hints at a wilder side to this mild-mannered priest.
Titan Inside Mechanical from mid-bicep down, Caythaes’s left arm emits a faint whirring sound every time they move it. Cast in bronze and crafted in a style that strongly resembles that of Titan Keepers, a strip of blue light curve over the top of their bicep. Glass domes on the back of the hand and at the sides of the elbow filled with liquid Azerite serve as the power source for the prosthetics. Though their hair frequently obscures the right side of their face, careful observers may catch sight of angry red scar tissue around their right eye socket. Without their goggles hiding their eyes, a mechanical implant similar to those seen on Mechagnomes sits in the place of an eye.
Raise You Like a Phoenix Unlike most priests, Caythaes’s aura doesn’t contain traces of the Light or of Shadow. They blaze with Life energy, much like a druid, with heavy swirls of arcane winding through. The scent that accompanies their magic smells of smoke and ozone with fluttering mechanical undertones. Every now and then, you might catch a glimpse of fiery gold and pink wings shimmering at their back.
Description
Caythaes has never been a natural beauty; at least, not by elven standards. Their face is narrow and sharp, with a straight, symmetrically placed nose and high cheekbones. A smattering of freckles dot sun-kissed skin, and sharp teeth frequently worry at thin, pink lips. At 5’8”, Caythaes isn’t particularly tall, but they’re necessarily short, either. Perfectly average describes nearly everything about them, from the width of their shoulders to the shape of their body. Though their chest and their stomach lean towards the soft side, they don't come across as thin or overweight.
Without any adornments, Caythaes wouldn't be anyone particularly interesting to look at. Just an average, run of the mill blood elf.
However, the left side of their head has been shaved away, leaving voluminous waves of bright blue hair cascading over their right shoulder. It falls frequently into their face, hiding a bronze mechanical implant, similar to those seen on Mechagnomes, and a red burn scar that encircles their eye socket and extends up to their forehead. It’s left them with a single red eyebrow that matches the neat strip of facial hair adorning the center of their chin.
Grease and oil stain their calloused hands, and dirt eternally seems to exist beneath their blunt, square nails. A pair of metal rings pierce the skin on either side of their lower lip, crowned by a golden ring that dangles from their nose. Gears and sprockets decorate their ears alongside traditional jewelry depicting suns and phoenix wings. Though they make an effort to look nice, Caythaes’s clothing is frequently thrifted and doctored up with studs, small spikes, or cloth patches that feature both gadgeteer and traditional Silvermoon imagery. Their personal sense of style ranges from post-apocalypse punk to glam, and their gender expression shifts readily between masculine and feminine, often blurring the lines completely.
In addition to their piercings, Caythaes possess a number of tattoos that are visible at various points in time. The most obvious are the orange runework bands up their forearms, similar to those worn by Grand Magister Rommath. Though it’s frequently covered, the runework continues down their torso, starting just beneath their ribcage and ending at the tops of their thighs. A watercolor style tattoo of a setting sun decorates Caythaes’s right shoulder, accentuated by metallic gold musical notes. A trio of red suns decorate the corners of their chest, right beneath their collar bone, and finally, a pair of raised red Silvermoon phoenix wings rest nestled between their shoulder blades, a golden sun blazing in between them.
The body modifications don’t end there; originally adopted after sustaining severe injuries in an engineering accident, Caythaes’s left arm and right leg have been replaced with mechanical prosthetics. Borrowing heavily from Titan Keeper designs, the prosthetics are made with bronze plated titanium and feature running lights that emphasize their shape. By default, the lights glow blue to match their hair, but can be changed to match their clothing. Globes of highly dilute liquid Azerite decorate the back of their hand and the sides of their elbow and knee, acting primarily as the power source for the prosthetics.
Despite it all, Caythaes possesses a quiet, demure demeanor, speaking in a soft voice through a stutter. Though there’s usually a nervousness to their expression - their eyebrow slightly furrowed and lips pursed into an uncertain moue - Caythaes is not necessarily shy. They do their best to be open and friendly, putting in the effort to approach those they perceive to be on the edge of a group. Caythaes is also extremely excitable, their voice rising in volume and bearing becoming less restrained when their interest is fully engaged.
Their unassuming bearing hides an inner strength; a powerful aura comprised of Life and Arcane energy surrounds them, filling the air around them with warmth similar to the sun on a warm summer’s day. Those sitting near them might catch the scent of smoke and ozone coupled with the mechanical smell from their prosthetics. Every now and then, the aura flares as a pair of shimmering translucent wings appear at their back, fluttering pink and gold before folding up and fading away.

VERY unpopular WoW opinion, but I love the class restrictions tbh.
it might be my rose-tinted goggles, i dunno. But I like it. I'm happy Tauren can be rogues but I don't want *every single* race to be *every single* class either.
Idk. It just doesn't feel right to me /shrug
inb4 "play classic then!11one!"
#ramblings#i feel like every race should be able to be a rogue#but not every race should b able to be a druid or pally or warlock yknow?#idk#then again i have a mechagnome lock. hahaha#i once played a private server where u could play like tuskarr druids#every single race could be every single class too#it just didn't feel right to me ngl#like it's cool but it just felt weird

Time to speculate about classes for the upcoming 8.3 Allied Races, Vulpera and Mechagnomes!
I’ll start with Vulpera because I don’t care about mechagnomes -- I think we can say that rogue, hunter, and warrior are guarantees. I’d put a lot of money on shamans, possibly monks, and I will go ahead and say we’ll see priests too because you could argue they have some kind of sun priests.
I’m kinda doubtful we’ll see Vulpera druids as cool as that would be.
What do you guys think?
