okay, so, I've collected a bunch of DP fandom stuff that I remember off the top of my head, specifically in chronological order & colour coded here in this post (fics/comics, tumblr posts, important imo) for no reason other than I saw a post asking for Phandom history & it triggered my biggest, most long-running hyperfixation & now I'm curious if anyone else remembers stuff.
this link is going to be the permanent version I will be updating, but I'm posting what I currently have (gonna go through my old laptop later for more) just to let people know. you can also find the link on my blog, but only on desktop. It isn't colour coded there, sorry.
please share more if you got anything else cuz I'm 100% sure I'm missing a lot of stuff & am too interested now. the biggest reason a lot of stuff isn't here is that I simply can't find it. second biggest reason is i forgor. things not included here aren't "unimportant," this is just the first stuff that comes to mind.
putting it under a cut 'cause it got kinda long

I Tried Henna Freckles
What's up guys it's your girl NT here and that stands for Natalya Taylor we are back for Monday's blog as you guys know I post a new blog every single Monday and occasionally on Fridays if I feel like it. Today we're on the floor because I may or may not be making a mess I have something very special for you guys today so I recently saw this blog posted by a blogger who goes by Naomi John she tried to make semi-permanent freckles on her face with henna and it was an absolute fail.
Now I'm convinced that she failed because she used the wrong color henna but I really like this idea see I already have freckles on my face but I just want to intensify my freckles sometimes I feel like henna is a really good way to intensify your freckles I feel so I'm going to give this a shot today's blog is sponsored by a company called Mihenna.
I reached out to them because I really wanted to do this blog post so why not get sponsored to do this blog I am going to open up this little kit that they sent me so basically they sent me a henna art kit and it doesn't just come with like the henna tubes it comes with like stencils and stuff which I'm really happy about so I'm not just gonna be doing the freckles I'm also going to try my best to create actual henna designs and we'll see if it's a win or a fail I know this is a sponsored blog but I always give my honest opinion so they sent me a cute little top Oh cute and also it comes with this ready to use henna paste some coconut oil for aftercare and the stencils so I'm not only going to be like I said doing some freckles on my face.
I'm going to WoW my freckles are drying attempt to put some of these stencils on my body as well this makes henna super easy like they they're like stickers you put them on your body and it's like you don't need any sort of henna talent and all to do this so that makes me feel a little bit better so here are some of the stencils I really want to put one of these on my feet actually I don't what it is about feet henna I think it's so beautiful I look like an Indian goddess getting ready to get married but I'm probably not going to show my feet on camera just simply because there are a lot of pedophiles out there get it head a petty file penny felt like penny is terminology for foot okay so I am going to just jump right in and get started if you are interested and purchasing your own Mihenna head up kids check out the link in the post let's go okay.
So we are up close and personal I am just starting out by removing the makeup on my face where I want to place my freckles I'm thinking about putting them where I already have freckles you know what I mean you guys will see how red my natural skin tone is you're welcome for that I am set up here with my mirror I figured you guys are gonna want to see what I'm doing I'm gonna want to see what I'm doing I am popping a lash okay let's do this but you know why I really don't want to show my feet on camera it is honestly because I grow hairs on my toes I on my toe knuckles I sprout these little hairs it looks very manly and I don't think you guys want to see that just one of my many and Security's another one of them being how crooked my nose is it is so ridiculously crooked I can't stand it I have a deviated septum if any of you know what that is if you have a deviated septum then you feel my pain I can only breathe out of one nostril it's very obnoxious a lot of people say that I breathe loudly okay so that is mainly where I want to place my freckles just right here on the bridge of my nose.
So I am going to get out my henna kit I'm going to just grab my little tube of henna paste and I'm just gonna start going at it and I have no idea what I'm doing I didn't watch any official henna freckle tutorials other than the fail ones so that's a good sign I really hope I just don't make a mess that's my biggest fear is that I'm going to make a mess do I need to cut the tip off of this just the tip oh okay so a little needle came out of the tip that was key.
Now I'm just gonna start randomly placed freckles on my face and we'll see how this goes okay first one going in it might help for me to read the instructions that way I kind of know what I'm doing remove the needle tip from the cone and fill the stencil okay so I removed the needle tip and I just got henna on my chair great and so I'm squeezing it I'm squeezing it okay.
So I'm gonna start placing henna freckles on my face I'm not gonna be too precise with it I'm just gonna put them everywhere there is our first one he is my firstborn I already love him I'm kind of spacing them out evenly I need to be more random with my placement so we're gonna put another one right there I'm gonna speed this up a little bit so you don't have to watch me put every single freckle on we're moving quick now I really got it down this is gonna sound super creepy and weird but I actually I really love the smell of this I realized something while I was doing this.
This would be a really good hack for covering up a pimple if you have a pimple on your face just put henna on it and turn it into a beauty mark but this is the completed look pretty satisfied with the placement the arrangement of freckles on my face I tried to be random but still cute I don't know what's going on here this was a test I'm going to see what that looks like I feel like that would have been a little bit more cute I don't know I feel like you can't just isolate freckles to half of your face I had to put a few constellations down there on my chin but I'm gonna let this dry for about an hour I don't know how dark I want them to be.
I feel like you're supposed to let it dry for about two hours but I'm gonna pick a couple of them off around one hour to see how it looks and I may or may not leave them dry for a little bit longer but while these are drying I'm going to try my hand at some stencils and like real henna so here's some of the stencils let's see here there's like these really cute ones they've got like a shroom on there okay I see Yuma henna they've got like a third eye should I put a third eye on my forehead maybe another time when I don't have to leave my house to be in public and then they've got like a little birthday cake if it's your birthday I really like this one I think this one goes on your wrist or your foot I might save that one for my foot they've got plenty here no that's a foot one for sure I'm going to put that one on my foot later and then I want to do this one on my wrist so we're gonna see how this goes while my freckles are drying that is a very strange sentence so I mean it when I say I'm going to be very honest about this product I have not tried it out yet until right now this very day and I truly hope that it looks good because not only are they sponsoring this blog but I have to wear this for like two weeks so the stencil has been applied I feel like this was made for someone with a little bit bigger of a wrist than I but I'm gonna try it anyways we're gonna go ahead and go for it.
So I'm going to go ahead and just start filling in my stencil they also give you these little paddles to like rub it around so it's a nice even coat I don't know why this may or may not be a correct prediction but I feel like I've already gotten a couple comments saying that this is not culturally appropriate but I feel like if you think something from another culture is beautiful and you want to emulate it then why would that be a problem like why anyone would want to be offended by that.
That's like someone taking an American thing like maybe I'm wrong here but that would be like me saying you can't watch fireworks because that's an American tradition and if you're not American sorry no fireworks for you and who wouldn't want to watch firework. Fireworks are a great time they're beautiful to look at so I feel like if everyone took a little bit from every culture and implemented it into their own life we might understand everyone else a little bit more do you know what I'm saying so here is my stencil I'm going to let this dry for an hour and then I did not set a timer I am guessing that I've been sitting here for about 15 minutes I'm going to check on my freckles in a little bit and then I will be back oh my gosh I almost forgot I wanted to do some knuckle tats as well because why not no words needed I'll be back okay so we're back oh my gosh look at these absolutely positively cute little freckles.
I have to say I don't know what I was expecting sometimes you just set yourself up for success or failure and in this specific scenario I felt like I was hoping for the best but honestly expecting the worst I feel like this turned out ten times better than I was ever expecting and in case you're wondering if you want to get this henna kit and do henna freckles the prime time drying time WoW is around 55 minutes so take note if you would like to try this out for yourself but look how cute oh my gosh.
I look like a little girl out in the Sun in the summertime but I'm gonna go ahead and remove my stencil and see how that looks okay I'm gonna try my best not to make a giant mess kind of inevitable though so here we go okay wow what a reveal look at that hold on let me just clean this up really quick oh my gosh this is actually so cute this is adorable oh gosh I feel like such an artist I feel so beautiful this is amazing I love how they give you stencils and it requires like no talent at all this is so cool the stencils are perfect for someone like me I really like that let's reveal the thug-life let's see what that looks like I told Mihenna that I wanted to do this blog and I was going to give them an honest review and I have to say this is really good henna I would ten out of ten recommend the site to get your very own Mihenna kit. I hope you've enjoyed this blog of me trying out the henna freckles. I love you guys so much and I hope you have a wonderful beautiful day peace.

She could feel her eyes growing heavy the longer she stared out the window, but before long, Satsuki was out of her seat and heading towards the back room and out the door. Ever since she laid eyes on Sakura, she felt her mind kick into overdrive, and if there was one thing that could bring her back down to earth, it’d be the nicotine in a cigarette.
With the simple white stick placed between her fingers, she flicked her lighter to life and inhaled while holding the flame to her cigarette.
“Smoking kills, ya know.” Suigetsu’s voice startled her, and before she knew it, he had his back against the wall with his own cigarette hanging from his lips. “Spare a light?”
Her thumb ran down the dial, bringing the flame to light while her coworker inhaled the nicotine deep into his lungs; it was funny how these eventually kill people, yet they also restore life inside a person, too. Satsuki smirked at the thought before placing her lighter back into the pocket of her flannel.
“Everything alright?” It was typical of Suigetsu to worry about his employees, and as he exhaled the smoke from between parted lips, she was mocking his movements and exhaled.
“Yes, I’m fine.”
A silence hung over the two of them, each keeping to themselves before Satsuki took her last long drag and dropped the butt beneath her foot, her heel crushing it. “Any appointments today?”
Her dark eyes glanced in the white-haired man’s direction, a toothy grin lingering behind thin lips. As much as she wanted to walk away, she considered entertaining the idea of talking to him a bit.
“I’ve got Sakura coming in a little later today,” she answered truthfully.
“Ah,” Suigetsu mumbled before he finished the last of his cigarette and crushed the butt beneath his heel as well. “That’s why you’ve been acting this way.” He was now bending over to pick up the remainder of both of their cigarettes, his lavender eyes on her the entire time.
“That’s not it, but nice guess.” She muttered beneath her breath, trying to hide that he was, in fact, correct. Satsuki was nervous to see Sakura again, unsure of what conversation she would strike up with her or if the pink haired woman would even want to talk.
“What do you do when you’re not sure how to start a conversation?”
Suigetsu smiled a toothy smile before tossing the butts into the can outside the door and stepping passed her. “It’ll come naturally. If your client doesn’t want to talk, then don’t push it. Simple as that.” He offered another smile before walking through the door to his office and closing the door softly behind him.
Satsuki inhaled deeply before making her way towards the restroom and turning the faucet on. The water was warm against her pale skin, dousing over her nails in refreshing water as she scrubbed soap around over the callouses of her fingers. She hated when the smoke would cling to her hands and clothes, but she hated it even more when she couldn’t breathe due to anxiety.
Today was going to be interesting.
With her hands clean, a stick of gum in her mouth and a new spritz of perfume applied -- her favorite was Mitsouko due to the mixed calming fragrances of fruity, floral and spicy scents -- she made her way to her chair and began to set up for Sakura’s appointment. She had well over a couple of hours to prepare, but her nerves just wouldn’t stop.
She felt annoyed with herself that she felt so anxious for this appointment of hers. Satsuki had been tatting people for a few years now, ever since she could remember, and now she sat here with her thumb nail between her teeth. Onyx eyes watched the door, watching people come in and out, in and out, until that familiar shade of pink wandered in front of window and entered the shop with a soft smile and raised eyebrows.
“Sakura,” Satsuki cleared her voice as she stood from her seat. “You’re early.”
“Yeah, sorry about that. I got off work early and decided to come by. I can go--”
“No, it’s fine,” Satsuki found herself interrupting Sakura with worried eyes and parted lips. “We can start early, I have nothing else going on.”
Sakura replied with a nod of her head and a smile as pure as the first day of spring. She shrugged her jacket off over her shoulders and hung it on the rack that resided on the wall next to her. Like a graceful ballerina, she made her way towards Satsuki, her soft smile never fading as she approached and stood in front of her.
“Are you excited?” She inquired, trying to distract her mind from evergreen eyes that sparkled like diamonds, and light freckles that sprinkled over the bridge of her nose.
Sakura was no longer smiling, but grinning from ear to ear and it was the cutest thing that Satsuki had ever seen -- she’d never admit that aloud, of course, but instead of standing and watching Sakura look up at her with excited eyes and clasped hands, she smirked and led her towards her station.
“Are you ready?” She asked as she pointed Sakura towards her seat and began to pull her gloves on over her hands. The smaller woman hopped up in the black, leather seat and began to shuffle around until she was comfortable. With a nod and another grin, she became all ears and focused.
“So this is your first tat, huh?”
A low hum came from her lips, almost as if she was agreeing before she spoke, “yes.”
“Concerned?”
A solid laugh came from the base of Sakura’s throat, catching Satsuki’s attention as she reached for Sakura’s arm. She was careful the moment she touched Sakura’s skin, taking her fragile arm in gloved fingers and she began to eye the the silky, smooth skin there.
“Not at all. Why should I be?” Sakura answered back with that cheerful voice that sent shivers down Satsuki’s spine and her own lips curved at the corners.
“What if I fuck up?” Self doubt came first and foremost when it came to Satsuki -- it as something that came along with growing up alone and facing trials all by yourself.
“I doubt it, your work is beautiful.” Sakura’s tone was no longer soft and cheerful, but stern and serious. Even her eyes were hard looking, her lips pursed before she smiled again. “Do you recommend that I go to someone else?”
It was Satsuki’s turn to let out a low chuckle before she shook her head and began to remove the hair from Sakura’s slender arm with a razor. “Only if you want,” she offered, her hands going to work while her mind resorted to autopilot.
She prepped Sakura’s arm and wiped the oils away before grabbing her stencil and lying it over the skin of Sakura’s arm. It was time to concentrate now; fucking up wouldn’t be tolerated -- besides, a gal as beautiful as Sakura deserved something gorgeous on her ivory skin.
“So,” Satsuki started as she lined the stencil on Sakura’s arm and readjusted until her eyes found a position they liked. “How does this look?”
“Perfect,” Sakura’s breathed out from between parted, thin lips. Her pastel pink lashes blinked over viridian eyes while her lips pulled into another smile. This woman was absolutely intoxicating with her smiles and sweet, sweet voice. She even smelled of fresh flowers in the morning, followed by a gentle and creamy scent; almost sweet smelling like melted marshmallows.
“Hn,” she muttered out of habit before placing the stencil back on her table and readying herself. “Since this is your first tattoo, I’m going to familiarize you with the needle.”
She could see Sakura jump in her seat as she clicked the gun to life, the familiar buzz sent vibrations through her skin and bones as she dipped the ends in water and hovered it just over Sakura’s arm. “Here goes,” she stated before placing it gently to her skin.
Just as Satsuki had expected, Sakura jumped under the gun but calmed almost immediately as she made a simple smiley face with the water. The skin turned red, irritated as she pulled the needles away and smiled at her work.
“Is that there forever?” Sakura asked with wide eyes.
“No,” Satsuki smirked. “It’s just water and to familiarize you with the needle.”
Sakura’s face settled and her eyes softened, resulting in Satsuki’s fingers to pinch around her gun tighter than she would’ve liked. It would pain her later in the day when she began to suffer from hand cramps, but in the meantime, she began Sakura’s tattoo and began to follow the lines with gentle movements and a solid smirk. Sakura’s words and conversation kept flowing, keeping Satsuki content and happy throughout the process.
“Remember to breathe, and if you need to adjust, tell me,” she reminded as softly and firmly as she could.
“Got it!”
.
.
.
It hadn’t occurred to Satsuki just how long Sakura had been in her chair, talking away happily like the two of them had known each other for years.
“Are you in pain?” She finally asked, meeting a pair of curious emerald green eyes staring her down and her lips parted. Sakura shook her head before shrugging.
“I mean, it’s a little sore but not too bad. It looks so good, though!”
Satsuki chuckled before shaking her head and wiping her wipe over the fresh ink. “It’ll look better once it’s done bleeding and when the skin is healed and not irritated.” And that was the honest truth. Satsuki hated how her work looked while she was going about it, mainly because of the red skin and smeared ink. It was a messy job, but the finished product always looked beautiful -- after healing.
She had just finished the lines, and as much as she wanted to continue, she took a moment to look at her work and smile for a moment. “We agreed on color, but maybe I should let your skin have a break. How does that sound?”
Sakura’s lips pursed under Satsuki’s dark eyes, and before she answered she shrugged once more. “Do you think that’d be best? You’re the professional.”
“My honest opinion is yes.”
Sakura nodded before taking a look at the art that was now imprinted in her skin. “It looks so pretty already.”
A light blush dusted Satsuki’s cheeks, but before Sakura could catch a glimpse, she was looking away and hiding her face behind her obsidian locks that had fallen out from her loose ponytail. “I’m glad you like it already. Let me get cleaned up and get you wrapped up and we’ll get you scheduled for your next appointment.”
The lopsided smile that graced her lips was made apparent when Sakura returned her smile. It shocked her that throughout the entire session,Sakura hadn’t complained or winced a single time. Satsuki brushed the thought off and continued her job.
She’d see Sakura again come a few weeks.
.
.
.
“How’d it go?” Suigetsu’s voice sounded from down the hall. She had been mesmerized with her sketches and caught up on the high that Sakura had provided that she hardly heard his voice over the low music.
“Fine,” she answered back with a short grunt. It was to her surprise that he was now hanging out of the doorway and staring at her with lavender eyes and a toothy smile.
“Just fine?” His smile grew, his lips curving and his eyes squinting slightly. Satsuki scoffed before smirking and letting her obsidian eyes find his own.
“Go away,” she murmured before waving him off with the wave of her hand. “I’ve got work to do.”
His silent laugh sounded before his presence dispersed from her space and she was left alone to the music and her thoughts. The sound of her pen pressing against the smooth surface of her paper filled her ears while she sighed deeply.
Sakura’s green eyes and ivory skin filled her mind, making it hard to concentrate on her drawing and causing her to curse every few minutes. Instead of finishing the sketch, she placed her work to the side, set her pens away and grabbed her belongings. It was time to go home, and as much as she wanted to finish her sketch that night, she needed to escape the confines of work and get some rest. Even if she just lounged on her couch with her eyes closed halfway while she watched the silent television, at least she could relax. Regardless of her thoughts, she called her good bye down the hall and disappeared out the door for the night.
The air was cool, clouds hovering in the sky overhead while stars twinkled and winked down at her. She found her breath the moment she entered the cool embrace of night, and with her fingers nervously digging around in her bag, she found the familiar box and pulled a cigarette from it before placing it between her lips and continuing her walk. The lighter flicked to life, lighting the end and and she quickly inhaled life into her lungs.
With another exhale, she felt like her body was coming back to life and she could finally think. No more thoughts of blurs of pinks and soft smiles crossed through her mind. She felt herself sink back into that hole she had grown so familiar with, and after she had crossed countless roads and wandered by many stores with their lights dimmed, she was now at the door to her apartment.
When her key clicked into place and her foot nudged the door open, she was greeted with the familiar scent that clarified that she was home.
With her mind in its usual spot, sweats pulled up her legs and a tank top hugging her torso, Satsuki fell onto her bed and breathed out her frustrations that she had held onto throughout the day. Her brows pulled into a frown the second she held out her left arm.
“I need more ink,” she groaned into the darkness of her room. Having new clients always had this toll on her, but this time, she was definitely going to talk to Suigetsu in the morning and get some new ink on her skin.

Great Scott!
Designer and illustrator Linda Scott, or The Bubble Writer as she’s known to her fans, gives us a glimpse into her colourful and creative world
Words by Elizabeth Rust; Photo by Lima Charlie
Linda Scott, aka The Bubble Writer, is teaching me the basics of bubble writing. She writes her name, L-I-N-D-A, in capital letters. She then draws an outline around the letters and rubs out the initial writing. What’s left is a bubbled L-I-N-D-A.
Next she shows me another version of her name in bubbles. This time she adds vertically slanted lines. She explains that with a bit of detail, the letters start to take on a personality. Now the bubbles look much more fun than the basic version.
Then we do 3D. This time she shows me how to add perspective to the bubbled letters so they pop off the page. “Children are obsessed with 3D. Once a child can write their name in 3D, they’re very happy,” she says.
Linda has published four books and a stationery kit on how to bubble write, including the cult hit How To Be The Best Bubble Writer In The World Ever! In the books she takes children through the steps of how to create bubbled letters. She then shows them how, with some graphics skills, their letters can take on something much more fun.
For example, children can turn their bubbled letters into creatures and characters, like robots or hairy monsters. “Even if a child’s lettering isn’t very strong, maybe their letters are wobbly, we can turn those letters into blobby monsters, give them some eyes, for instance, and then the messiest letters become something really special,” she says.
Linda explains that anything can be turned into lettering. At her after-school club at Dulwich Hamlet, she shows children how to make alphabets resembling ice cream or sweets. “If they get stuck, I tell them to use their massive brains. They’re so creative. But literally, you can make anything into an alphabet.”
She also runs several pop-up events at venues in Dulwich, including one at the Copper Beech Café at JAGS Sports Club for this year’s Dulwich Festival. “It was completely mobbed,” she says. “It was so much fun.”
She also did a workshop for World Book Day with Rye Books at Goodrich Community Primary School. “Linda is very creative and has lots of energy. The books are such a good education resource,” Rye Books owner Alastair Kenward says.
But despite working with children now, she never intended to do so. Instead she wanted to be a designer, and she studied printed textile design at John Moores University in Liverpool and then at Central Saint Martins in London.
“While I was at Central Saint Martins I got a little bit distracted doing printed T-shirts,” she says. “It was the late 1990s when everyone wore skinny little tiny T-shirts. I started selling them at boutiques around London.”
Trendy boutiques they were too, like Sign of the Times and The Dispensary. But then Linda comes across as very cool. She’s got a laidback vibe about her. She is positive and also very creative. She calls herself a hippy who loves fashion.
“The books all happened by chance,” she says. “When my kids were younger we lived in Brixton. I started helping out at the school doing posters for cake sales and jumble sales. I did them in the bubble writing style and people used to nick them or ask for copies. I thought, ‘There must be something in this.’”
A friend gave her the name of a publisher, Laurence King, and Linda put together a few pages to send to the commissioning editor. “Helen Rochester turned out to be a very amazing and visionary woman,” she says. “I hadn’t done a book before, and she was very good at guiding me.”
The books are aimed at children around the age of 10, she says. “At that age children become interested in writing their names in different ways, and making an identity for themselves. Not in a preconceived way. It’s just something that they start doing. So the books are about guiding and encouraging them and giving them confidence.”
Once the children start mastering letters, then they start making products. Linda’s strap is “Let’s try to never go to the shops again”. She tells them they can make their own birthday cards, stationery, envelopes, wall planners and wrapping paper.
“I tell them all the stuff you see in the shops, someone designed it and made it,” she says. “I tell them they can set up their own little cottage industry making cards and wrapping paper.”
At the beginning of the term at Dulwich Hamlet, Linda gives the children a sketchbook and tells them to draw all their ideas inside. “‘Don’t rub it out,’ I tell them. ‘Everything counts.’” By the end of the term she’s pleased when the children are using their sketchbooks properly.
“That’s something I wish my teachers had said to me,” she says. “If it doesn’t matter today, it might do in three years’ time. Because sometimes you think about something so much, you feel like you’ve done it. But you haven’t, it’s just been in your brain so much, you’re almost bored of it. But if you stick it in a sketchbook, you can go back to it a year later when you have the time, money, or inclination.”
She also tells the children not to discount what they’re good at when they’re young. “I say to them, ‘When I was your age, I was really good at doing this. But I discounted it. Don’t discount what you’re good at now, because it can become something that puts fish fingers on the table when you’re older.’”
Linda insists there’s never been a master plan with the books. She’s never formally networked. Instead she keeps in touch with her friends and friends of friends, and things happen from there. That’s how she met Dulwich resident Neil Ellis, the owner of Brilliant Neon, who sells a range of affordable neon art.
“A friend of mine went into the pop-up art gallery [Dulwich Outdoor Gallery] in Dulwich Village. She said to Neil, ‘I have a friend who does these really good graphic books. You should meet her and sell her books over Christmas.’
“After that I went down there to show him my books. And he said, ‘Forget about selling the books, you should do a range of neons.’ So I did four neons for the first collection.”
There’s a pointy “Wow” sign in orange and yellow hues, “Smile” in blue, “Love” in pink and a rainbow peace sign. Linda says it’s the first time an end product has looked exactly like her original sketches, explaining that the neon company blew up her sketches and then formed the neon to match.
“I can pretty much die happy now,” she says. “As a graphic artist or illustrator, to work in neon is very special, hardly anyone ever gets to do that.” And when a woman bought her “Wow” sign, she had to give her a hug. “Because it’s a lot of money, isn’t it,” she says.
Linda is also working on a series of light boxes which can be seen at the Copper Beech Café. These are brightly coloured 1960s and 70s themed prints with sayings like “Peace and love”, “Just be a good human” and “Disco”.
She gets the front printed and her husband builds the light boxes and does the electrics. In addition to this she also works twice a week at Okido, an arts and science magazine for children.
With all these projects, I can’t help but wonder how she finds the time to fit it all in, especially since she has two teenage children. “I get up every day and I love what I’m doing,” she says. But she does admit she starts working at 6am. “I can’t work in the evenings. I can talk myself out of anything in the evenings.”
Her children are “massive helps”, she says. She bounces ideas off them constantly. At the time of our meeting, her son was building her a new website. “I’ve been trying to get it done for three years. He’ll have it finished by the end of the week.”
In her back garden she works in the studio that she and her husband built over two weeks when her children were away. There are ideas and words she’s taped above her computer. “My wall is very important to me. I put my ideas on the wall.”
She then points to a plastic stencil. “That’s my next project. I want to make a series of bubble stencils,” she says. “But I’ve got so many ideas. Trying to get everything done, see my children, see my friends. Trying to lead a chilled life.”

In a hurry? Don’t have time for the full article? No worry I got you covered, here are my most favorite tattoo care products for all stages of the healing and care prozess:
My Favorite Tattoo Care Products
HUSH anesthetic – Tattoo Numbing Gel
Made specifically for use during the tattoo process, Hush anesthetic saves you a ton of pain. This topical anesthetic also works great for tattoo removal, piercing, and waxing. Hush Anesthetic penetrates your skin and temporarily numbs your nerves. It lasts for up to four hours—enough to get through at least a medium-sized tattoo. It contains no products that affect your tattoo ink—such as alcohol or petroleum. Hush just focuses on ingredients needed for pain relief and gets the job done. To apply, rub a small layer of the tattoo pain cream over the affected area. Wait a few minutes for certain compounds to break down before the tattoo process begins.

Hustle Butter Deluxe
One of my favorite tattoo products, Hustle Butter Deluxe provides a lot of care for a single lotion. Use it before your tattoo to work as a moisturizer and a glide. The tattoo lotion keeps your skin nice and smooth, without affecting the stencils your artist made. During the tattoo healing process, apply it to reduce scabs and relieve that crazy itching sensation. After your tattoo heals, continue using it as an amazing moisturizer. No other tattoo lotions, soaps, or ointments provide such versatile care. As a cherry on top, it only uses vegan ingredients, and no animal testing went into the making of this product.

Coppertone Tattoo Guard Continuous Spray SPF 50
From the top sunscreen brand (and I say that with certainty—anyone who hasn’t used this at some point in their lives has never gone to the beach) comes Coppertone Tattoo Guard. At 50 SPF, it offers incredible protection for the better part of your day. Because of its hypoallergenic and photostable ingredients, it offers protection for all skin types. With a tattoo-specific formula, it provides a clear layer of sunscreen that doesn’t damage your tattoo or cover it in a milky white layer. All this, in a convenient spray form! I highly recommend it for people from all walks of life.

Tattoo Fading
How do you keep your tattoo looking new? A lot of work goes into it besides sunscreen, you know! Avoid working out, swimming, drinking alcohol, or using soaps containing alcohol on your skin. Well…for most people, including me, that’s a little much. I mean, working out prolongs your life in general, and swimming defines the whole season of summer. How could we go without?
Quite frankly, while you can shut yourself in a dark room and avoid all kinds of physical activity to preserve your tattoo, there’s no point if you can’t show it off. For all the normal people out there—who take good care of their bodies, who enjoy sunlight, and who love to swim—sunscreen makes up the most important and reasonable way to prevent fading. How quickly do tattoos fade? That depends on your type of tattoo. Black tattoos last forever, but with improper care, light fades them into a green color. Other colors and inks last different lengths of time, based on how much water they contain, the size of their pigment, and how they reflect light.
Why do black ink tattoos turn green, and why do colors disappear at all, if tattoos are permanent? Simply put, intense forms of light break down the particles on a physical level. The body carries small particles away, creating small patches of regular skin. Without a solid layer, black ink appears green through your skin. Likewise, color patches disappear altogether, given enough time. Laser removal works by targeting your ink with light on a very fast scale, rather than a natural one.
So, how do you keep your tattoo from fading? Sunscreen. Lots of sunscreen.
Tattoo Sunscreen
Now that we know what causes tattoo fading, let’s focus on how to keep tattoos looking new. Does sunscreen protect tattoos? Absolutely, and magnificently, so today I want to share several types of sunscreen with you. With the emergence of tattoos as art, companies quickly created sunscreens and soaps that filled in the needs of inked people. Unlike regular sunscreens, these ones contain no chemicals that potentially damage your tattoo! Since you need to treat tattoos daily—and not just when you swim—the special formulas make a huge difference.
H2Ocean SPF 45 Sea Life Sunscreen
H2Ocean Sea Life Sunscreen delivers protection for everyday use and use during swimming. The water-resistant formula contains clear zinc oxide, which protects your skin and tattoo at the same time. In fact, most of these sunscreens contain clear zinc oxide. Despite its ambiguous name, this ingredient ranks as the best among tattoo-safe sunscreens. On top of that, the clear substance shows off your tattoo without the characteristic ‘white layer’ that other sunscreens leave behind. Since H2Ocean uses zero oil, application feels nice and smooth, rather than greasy or oily. The bottle looks small, but it lasts a long time. It also lacks that nasty sunscreen smell. Get it here.

The Original Tattoo Goo Color Guard SPF 30 UV Sunscreen Stick
This tattoo sunscreen stick comes from one of the best tattoo care companies in the world. Along with protecting your tattoo from fading, it also enriches your tattoo’s color. Many tattoo starter kits include this product because of its amazing effectiveness. Unlike H2Ocean, use this sunscreen stick generously. The more you apply, the longer its effectiveness. At the same time, if you overdo it, prepare yourself! While it creates no residue, it leaves behind a bit of a greasy touch.
This sunscreen works best for casual excursions or daily routine. At SPF30, it protects a shorter spectrum than H2Ocean. However, its price reflects this! This affordable sunscreen lasts for two whole years, even for huge sleeves or chest tattoos. You can get it here.

Ed Hardy Tattoo Stick Black (or Pink) Protect UV Fade Sunscreen
Available in two colors for your convenience, this minimal sunscreen stick cuts out the frills and flashes of the other sunscreens and simply offers you amazing protection. Shaped like a deodorant dispenser, this sunscreen matches all of your daily essentials. Whether you put it in your pocket or your purse, no one asks questions about this bit of care. It leaves no grease behind and works in swimming situations.
They both use light tropical scents, thanks to the inclusion of Shea Butter. Shea Butter smells magnificent—at least, in my opinion—and the smell never overpowers your air space. Both sticks offer amazing SPF 50 UVA and UVB protection while saving your tattoo from fading. You can get it here.

Attention:
Some people ask us, ‘Can you put sunscreen on a new tattoo?’ Generally, we answer no—at least for the first few weeks. When the tattoo scabs stop itching and start falling off, you can safely use sunscreen, just as you should.
Best Waterproof Sunscreen
Of course, more specialized sunscreens exist for people with different needs. In example, perhaps you work as a life guard and need to constantly protect your tattoo from both water and sunlight. The best water resistant sunscreen fits into the pockets of your swimsuit (at least, if you use swim shorts) and goes with you wherever you need to. The stick applicator makes spot protection easy. So, without further ado, let’s check out the best waterproof sunscreen for swimming!
CannaSmack Ink Guard
At first, this sunscreen seems bland. This SPF 30 tattoo sunscreen and fade shield offers broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection, just like all the rest. However, unlike many, this sunscreen truly takes care of your skin. It contains premium hemp seed oil, multiple omega vitamins, and vitamins A, B, D, and E. When you add all of that together, you find a concoction of the very best vitamins for your skin. Plus, all of them will absorb directly into your skin. Not only does the stick protect against damage, but it heals any damage that occurred before application! This sunscreen lasts up to eighty minutes in water—far longer than other tattoo sunscreens. Get it here.

Specialized Tattoo Sunscreens
Before I go further into specialized sunscreens, let me explain a little bit about how I chose them. First—and naturally—I chose what worked best for me. However, some of them blend attributes, so pay attention to what suits your needs. In example, CannaSmack Ink Guard formula works well for sensitive skin, but I found that our next sunscreen topped it. Focus on which sunscreen feature you need most, then read the other properties in order to find the perfect sunscreen. Testing multiple sunscreens against each other works, as well.
Hypoallergenic Sunscreen
For the best sunscreen for sensitive skin, I really struggled to find one that worked. When I use the wrong type of sunscreen, my eczema flares up, leaving behind an itchy red rash that lasts for days. Obviously, I started looking for a hypoallergenic sunscreen for babies, since I thought nothing else would work. With most other beauty products, I single out baby products due to their ‘softer’ ingredients. Well, by pure luck and thanks to a friend, I stumbled upon a sunscreen for sensitive skin! Eczema and psoriasis-approved, this sunscreen leaves no rashes behind and feels lovely to apply.
Coppertone Tattoo Guard Lotion SPF 50
As I just mentioned, Coppertone Tattoo Guard Lotion works spectacularly for sensitive skin. One of my friends with psoriasis even commented on how nice this lotion felt! This SPF 50 lotion protects you from both UVA/UVB rays and moisturizes your skin. Along with that, the aloe extract it contains soothes your skin on hot days.
However, I want to make one thing clear. Sometimes, this ‘lotion’ feels more like an ointment. To prevent the lotion from running, shake thoroughly before use. A single drop of this stuff goes a long way, so it lasts forever! Avoid squirting a bunch in your hand and then applying, unless you want to waste some extra lotion or look like a ghost. Allow fifteen minutes for your sunscreen to set before swimming, then reapply after eighty minutes. Like most sunscreens, this works in water for a short time.
Honestly speaking? My skin reflects sunlight like tinfoil, so I seriously need a soft sunscreen. Ultimately, I always carry a bottle of this around for daily use and use during tanning. It protects my tattoos wonderfully! Get it here.

Best Vegan Sunscreen
Continuing on, we all need to do our part to protect the world we live in. Most sunscreen companies use animal testing to ensure the safety of their products. While that sounds innocuous, it actually includes feeding animals exorbitant amounts of the stuff, pouring it into their eyes, and making them swim in sunscreen baths for hours. Not good, you know? Thankfully, modern companies all move away from cruelty practices. While classic brands stick to their guns, new brands learn from their mistakes.
This list contains many sunscreens that don’t test on animals, but this one tops the cruelty free sunscreen list thanks to its vegan ingredients. A vegan sunscreen uses no animal products in the ingredients, either. Everything comes from natural plant oils or minerals, plus all of them enhance your skin. Of course, this sunscreen also provides amazing protection for your tattoo’s color. This sunscreen works best for any vegans, vegetarians, and nature-sensitive individuals. It even goes soft on your skin, so even people with sensitive skin can use it.
Kiss My Face Tattoo Shade Sunscreen SPF 30
This lotion shows up in PETA’s favorite skin health products, and we know why. With no animal ingredients or testing, along with no paraben preservatives, artificial colors, or even artificial fragrances, this sunscreen offers the best natural sunscreen for sensitive skin. With natural ingredients, it smells quite interesting. Almost like a blend of carrots and green tea…or maybe a fresh garden smell. I personally adore it, but if you prefer scentless sunscreen, take solace in the fact that the scent fades quite quickly.
This tattoo works best for day-to-day use. At only SPF 30, and with no animal products to keep it from slipping away while sweating, try to reapply this often. Every forty minutes works great for a day in the sun. Get it here.

Best Spray Sunscreen
Sometimes, we need to work the whole day outside. Taking the time to spread a lotion or a stick across your whole body detracts from your valuable break time. Rather than spend fifteen minutes applying a sunscreen lotion, check out sunscreen sprays. You can easily apply them to your whole body in less than a minute. If you feel you missed a spot later on, it only takes seconds for spot protection. Unfortunately, not many tattoo-friendly companies explore the world of sunscreen spray. Maybe they want to stick to lotion…or maybe the competition proves too stiff.
You see, this brand already made the list in lotion form. On top of that, I love it the most out of all of these, since it goes easy on my sensitive skin. The ingredients all work well on tattoos and guard your ink from damage. Application to large tattoo sleeves or back covers takes mere seconds. On top of that, one canister of the stuff lasts forever. This stuff sells out on Amazon pretty frequently, so grab it quick!
Coppertone Tattoo Guard Continuous Spray
This sunscreen offers a whopping 50 SPF, despite its spray form. That means you only need to apply it every eighty minutes or so. After application, you notice the difference instantly. Your tattoo ink feels less hot, along with the rest of your skin. The difference between sunscreen and tattoo sunscreen is that Tattoo Guards like this one use no petroleum products. Petroleum damages tattoos—especially new ones. On top of that, the solution is photostable, allowing it to last for ages. Get it here.

Best Suntan Lotion
Generally, extra light works against your tattoo. This puts habitual tanners in a bind. Bronzing your skin gives your skin depth and a healthy vigor. If you stop tanning because of a tattoo, how do you achieve that lovely look again? Well, quite simply, tanning lotion for tattoos. A tattoo tanning lotion protects your ink while enhancing your color. Use them in conjunction with sunlight or a tanning bed for the ideal tan.
Ed Hardy Bronzer Tattoo Fade Protection Tanning Lotion
Available in two varieties, these amazing lotions offer protection for your tattoos during their greatest trial—the tanning bed! With a characteristic ‘manly’ scent, they provide a very cool sensation to the skin when you first apply. It only takes one session for the color to set in, but several small sessions seem to work best. Multiple sessions allow you to adjust the amount you use in sensitive places like your ankles, face, elbows, and knees. The Black Elixir formula contains anti-aging ingredients and moisturizes your skin. However, the Get Ripped Cooling Bronzer contains no oil, which works wonderfully for sensitive skin.

Australian Gold JWOWW Natural Black Bronzer with Ink-Drink Complex
Arguably the best suntan lotion for tanning, this tanning lotion lasts eighteen months after opening the bottle. Like Ed Hardy’s Bronzers, JWOWW offers a tone difference after just a single session. Its fresh ingredients almost sound tasty—with things like yogurt, pear extract, black currant oil, Vitamin E, and even Shea Butter showing up in its formula. My Fovorite:
Best Sunscreen for Tattoos
I couldn’t leave this list without pronouncing some sort of winner. The best sunscreen brands all work wonderfully, but one tattoo sunscreen stands out from the others. Without further ado, my best rated sunscreen is…Coppertone Tattoo Guard Continuous Spray! As I mentioned before, Coppertone only helps my sensitive skin out. I grab a canister of the stuff any time I plan to spend a lot of time in the sun. On top of that, it’s one of the best sunscreens for face application! Just spray and forget.
In the end, I hope this list helps you find the best tattoo sunscreen for your needs. If you need help finding a sunscreen with particular features or ingredients, just ask us.

Best Tattoo Sunscreen
Best Tattoo Sunscreen
If you treat yourself to one thing in life, then make it a tattoo. If you can do anything to keep that tattoo looking nice, then wear some sunscreen. Sunscreen in general keeps your health up, ensuring the harmful rays of the sun do minimal damage to your skin. It makes sense that something which protects your skin also protects your tattoo! But did you know that companies create specific types of sunscreen just for inked skin? This article guides you to the best tattoo sunscreen for your specific needs. Whether you want something Vegan, hypoallergenic, or even something gentle to people with eczema, we cover you.
Browse through each section according to your needs. Along with sunscreen information, we also give you valuable knowledge about tattoo fading and how long your tattoo lasts. With careful attention, you prevent your color inks from disappearing and your black inks from turning blurry and green. If you need more information about tattoo care in general, then check out the Ultimate Tattoo Care and Tattoo Aftercare Guide!
