Fifth Harbour and Kanej

Can we just talk for a second about the symbolism of Fifth Harbour?

This comes in 3 parts.

1) "But Fifth Harbour had been useless and all but abandoned by the city when Kaz had taken it over. He'd had it dredged, and then built out the docks and the quay, and he'd had to mortgage the Crow Club to do it … But the endeavor had paid for itself in less than a year. Now Fifth Harbour offered berths to mercher ships, as well as boats from all over the world carrying tourists and soldiers eager to see the sights and sample the pleasures of Ketterdam … Fifth Harbour had made the old man very rich, and cemented the Dregs as real players in the Barrel in a way that not even the success of the Crow Club had."

Fifth Harbour was the embodiment of all of Kaz's grit and hard work. It symbolizes all he did to give a name for himself and build his status and reputation in the Barrel. And this was part of his brick-by-brick promise to destroy Pekka Rollins.

2) "He bundled her into his arms and leaped down from the crates, landing roughly, his bad leg buckling … He clutches her tighter. 'Just make it to the schooner. Open your damn eyes, Inej.'"

The ambush that got Inej stabbed? That happened in Fifth Harbour. After this scene, I feel like Kaz started to have conflicting thoughts with what he truly wanted. When Inej asked him that, he said "To die buried under the weight of my own gold." But we all know he thought "You, Inej. You" during that scene on the Ferolind.

3) "-A sealed letter in Kaz's messy scrawl. Sunrise. Fifth Harbor … She felt his knuckles slide against hers. Then his hand was in her hand, his palm pressed against her own. A tremor moved through him. Slowly, he let their fingers intertwine."

Kaz and Inej on the docks, before they meet Inej's parents? This was also in Fifth Harbor. And I hope the context of this post speaks for itself because I cannot focus anymore. Typing that scene made me so happy I am not able to form coherent words.

All Too Well and Kaz Brekker

Bear with me but in this part of All Too Well

Kaz may have learned from his experience with Jakob Hertzoon but he knows more innocent people will be duped by people like Pekka Rollins, especially young and naive people like he was

Kaz's life was turned upside town and he's had to physically suffer too because of Pekka and he's surviving and returning half his weight to seek revenge

Also, the use of the word "skin" and breaking his skin when Kaz now has an aversion of skin-to-skin contact

Also, Brooklyn is a popular place being in New York. This could show Pekka's power because/as he had swindled many people before and how Kaz feels inexperienced in comparison (disregard this, its a stretch)

And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?

Kaz thinking its unfair that his life was so affected and yet Pekka benefited and then did not even remember it

In Ketterdam's world of deception and swindles, Kaz has survived this long and built so much because of that swindle that tore his life apart when he was 10. It was the first time he was exposed to the cruelty in Ketterdam. And how it looked glistening and magical and too good to be true at first but that's how you fall into the trap.
