not "anti-recovery" in the sense that i think people shouldn't want to improve their lives or that it's bad to want to recover from things that are hurting you, but "anti-recovery culture" in the sense that i think taking away someone's autonomy because they're disabled or mentally ill in a way you don't like is fucking wrong, actually. this especially applies when they're not hurting anyone, but even if they might hurt people, there's methods to prevent harm without taking someone's autonomy away and forcing them to do things they don't want to do. people will do things with their autonomy that you don't like, but so long as others aren't getting hurt, it's none of your fucking business. especially if it's a person you've encountered on Tumblr or other social media where you have tools like blocking and muting people at your disposal, and tag and content filtering on Tumblr actually works shockingly well for what it is.

Four months into my Teen Wolf renaissance and I am kind of fascinated by the way my interaction with it changed and shaped with this current rewatch of the show, the shift in priorities.

I used to monoship in this fandom. There was Sterek and nothing else.

Now I'm juggling multiple ships and my first ever poly-ships for this fandom. Which is a delight, because I'm a polyamorous person first and a writer second so to actually have poly-ships in this fandom sparks a whole lot of joy for me. So does generally having multiple ships, because I've always been a multishipper.

It's interesting though, that with these multiple ships, it has become very clear to me what's my actual most important dynamic for this fandom. Because it doesn't matter what the Stiles ship is, it doesn't even matter who the pack Alpha is and what pack we're talking about, I need Boyd and Erica to be alive and to be in Stiles' pack. These three mean the fucking world to me, they're the core. The pack around them may change, the romantic ship for Stiles may change, but those two are alive and together and beautiful and Stiles' pack.

Other things, I am much more flexible on. There are characters I don't particularly care whether they're portrayed as good friends or bad friends, but if a fic goes outta their way to keep Boyd and Erica alive just to have them be bad to Stiles, I am out of that story faster than you can look.

Jackson is slightly more negotiable. He's still very important to me and I prefer him to be in the pack, but there is also something appealing to him being in London and him and Stiles building a long-distance friendship after the Nogitsune, that phone calls and texts might make it easier for Stiles to talk about what happened, that the Nogitsune trauma and the kanima trauma bonds them. I prefer them to be pack, but they don't have to be, as long as they are still friends. If I have to see Jackson post season 2 sticking around and being pack, just to then be a bully to Stiles, I am also out.

Like. I do fully understand that all three have, you know, more or less antagonistic pasts toward Stiles. I also understand fics that just turn everyone aside from [romantic partner] against Stiles for max angst. It's just that these three? These three hurt me to read as bad friends.

The more I write and read for the fandom, the more important does Alpha Peter become to me too. Even outside of romantic Steter, it just... feels wrong to me when he's a beta even more wrong when he's Scott's beta ngl. There is so much healing, redemption and hope in the idea of Peter as an Alpha who gets to rebuild the Hale Pack and keep his family's legacy alive.

Used to be Derek for me, but the more I think about it, the... unhappier he seems as an Alpha in canon and the fonder I grow of the idea of him getting to be a Right Hand. Of him getting a second chance with a Hale Pack but without the burden of having to try and be the Alpha. (I do still love writing and reading Alpha Derek though, especially when it's Sterek. But if I had to pick a favorite Hale Pack dynamic, it'd have to be Alpha Peter and Right Hand Derek.)

Now, out of this list, Peter was the only real surprise. Even back in 2014, when I first got into this fandom, I preferred my Berica alive and as friends with Stiles and I liked my Stackson brOTP.

But genuinely the biggest surprise to me is how much I latched onto Spark Stiles, because this was something I used to actively avoid. I used to think of that as nonsense. I mean, come on, that was one episode and canon moved on from that, how did you grow that attached to it.

Somehow, this rewatch, I just feel very indignant about the fact that they really gave Stiles magic for one episode and then did jackshit with it. What the hell. After ten years, I finally understand why the fandom couldn't let go of that.

Comfortingly enough did my favorite thing not change in the past ten years though. Give me Pack Mom Stiles or give me death. That's still the best damn thing this fandom ever did, in my opinion, and whatever the ship or the pack or who the Alpha is, Stiles is Pack Mom.

But it is interesting to see how my own interaction with the story and the characters has changed over the past decade and on this third to fifth watch (depending on what season we're talking about. I've seen the first two seasons more often than the rest).

why do you believe ned and ashara where together over brandon and ashara.

Howland Reed and House Dayne say Ned/Ashara.

It is not "dishonorable" for Ned and Ashara to have a romance. How do I know that? Harwin, Arya VIII "I doubt there's any truth to it. But if there is, what of it? When Ned met this Dornish lady, his brother Brandon was still alive, and it was him betrothed to Lady Catelyn, so there's no stain on your father's honor. There's nought like a tourney to make the blood run hot, so maybe some words were whispered in a tent of a night, who can say? Words or kisses, maybe more, but where's the harm in that? Spring had come, or so they thought, and neither one of them was pledged."

What does Brandon/Ashara serve to the over all story? Nothing as far as I can tell. I know Ned/Ashara serves the purpose of making Ned's backstory just a little bit sadder, and to kind of be the ghost in Ned/Cat's otherwise great marriage.

Just to address it, Barristan Selmy's thoughts on that matter mean jackshit to me. He was a creeper that as far as I can tell never really interacted with Ashara. His thoughts are only good for knowing how she superficially looked like, not the real her in my honest opinion.

Another character to be addressed, Brandon stark was the wild wolf, had wolfs blood, and he slept with Barbery Dustin when he was teenager. Unlike other parts of this fandom that isn't enough for me to label him as some womanizer on par with Robert Baratheon. The evidence for him being the kind of dick that would push his brother to dance with crush just so he could fuck her is thin at best.

This is the second most important point for me at least. Sometimes the simplest answer is the correct answer. Not everything has to have twists and turns.

Stories from the workplace

alright, so I’ve got some story rrriigggghhhtttt out of a soap opera. I have this coworker who is about as empathic as a plastic bag around your face. I’m talking sociopath cause I have compared her actions with the traits and i fits like a glove. She originally worked at our sister location and had worked at our location previously when we were short-staffed. Even then I already gotten weird vibes from her so I was glad i wasn’t a perminent thing. Years go by and she gets into a fight with her manager and the rest of her coworkers there. Boss didn’t want to lose her so hired her at our location. All is fine and dandy for a while but it didn’t stay that way. Our manager got offered a job elsewhere and took it, so we got a new manager. This manager had already been offered the job before but due to complications couldn’t take the job. (She was pregnant and after giving birth had heart problems. She’s got a pacemaker now) This lady is a fucking trooper, she works her ass off to make sure we as employees are happy. I can get pretty frustrated with work but if she asks me to pick up an extra shift I will. So, we get 3 weeks of vacation time. I took mine 21st of October til the 10th of November. We have 6 people currently including my manager. We have a student who took his vacation in the beginning of summer because he still goes with his parents. We had one coworker (we’ll call her Bean cause this story involves them) go in the middle of summer with miss Sociopath taking 2 weeks off. Manager didn’t even have a full vacation because she was still doing paper work. Then there is our old man, our fixure of the workplace because he’s been there for nearly 20 years. He took his vacation in September, the first 3 weeks. I thought ‘it’s fine I can take the last and a few in October’ NOPE. Miss Sociopath took the last week of September. Summer is usually a work-heavy period so I was basically running on fumes at that point... But since I had a vacation planned with friends the first week of November I figured ‘21st October til 10 November it is!’ I submitted those dates before september since the work scedule for that month had already been planned. So the work scedule for October and November are planned. Miss Sociopath whines she has exams IN THE MIDDLE OF MY VACATION. Manager told me not to worry about it since I had submitted my dates well on time and miss Sociopath DIDN’T. It did nothing to stop the worrying... Then... It happened... The other coworker, Bean, gets in an accident. She was riding on her scooter and had to evade a cat. Ending up in a ditch. She sprained and tore her knee and ankle, ontop her neck turned stiff so moving her head wasn’t possible. This happened when miss Sociopath was still on holiday for her last week so I had to take over Bean’s shifts which I did even if I was running on fumes and highly irritable. Did ask our Fixture if he could work one of my shifts since I’d be working 7 in a row and 8 was gonna kill me. He had no trouble with that. Since Bean’s injuries were pretty severe she was out for atleast all of October. Now I have to say I was pretty frustrated having to work extra shifts when I was already on my last legs. But it was NOTHING compared to Miss Sociopath. Miss Sociopath accussed Bean of faking it and that Bean could work a few hours regardless of her injuries. And that once SHE worked with a BROKEN FOOT. (if it truly been only her leg Bean technically could have worked since she’d been allowed to use the chair. It would be highly uncomforable but it could be done. However i wasn’t just her leg) She also called the rest of us lazy since we didn’t ‘do our jobs properly’ and that if she were manager ‘you’d all have to fear for your job’. (lady, if you were manager I’d quit on the spot, have fun filling 3 full shifts ontop of those 4 other shifts from Bean. Our shifts are divided in 3 aday, you’re fucked if that happens) Bean wasn’t back before I went on vacation so the manager needed to request emergency aiders. But during my holiday I got a notification from the work group. I feared it was trouble so I looked. No such thing. It was a Kermit drinking tea meme. Something very odd in a group chat meant for work related messages... It was posted by miss Sociopath and had 3 sentences: 1. ‘I don’t actually see you as a collegue.’ 2. ‘Oh you mean we’re more like friends?’ 3. ‘No I mean you do jackshit’ ............................... Yeh, she REALLY posted that..... So the Manager asked the Student, he was the admin of the group, if he could delete it. He told the manager only Miss Sociopath could delete it. So Miss Sociopath responded with: ‘I don’t see the problem? Is self-mockery forbidden?’ Bitch. You’ve been shouting that we’re lazy. Do you REALLY THINK we’d see this post as SELF-MOCKERY? .... So being a little shit I decided to explain it to her <3 I told her: ‘The text implies YOU view US as lazy. It’s not self-mockery if it’s not about yourself.’

Welp~ This is where her true persona shines~ Because her response on that was truly: ??? Dafuq??? (I’ve shown it to various people and that was legit their response) Her response: ‘Wolf, firstly, I think my vocabulary is broader than yours. (good for you? I doesn’t make you smarter tho) Secondly, You don’t know if I’m lazy nowadays since I don’t work extra. So if you want to have an opinion you better ask for facts first’ :justsaying: (No, no I don’t. You can have an opinion WITHOUT facts. I can find you a stupid crotchgoblin, doesn’t have to be true. That’s why it’s an OPINION.)  Seriously, I had a giggle with that ludicrous answer but the Manager was fed up. The Manager snapped to cut the crap and that the chat wasn’t for this crap. Miss Sociopath replied with: ‘I was seriously joking about my new motivation’ bu was promptly shut down again. Then she left the group chat :3c (oops~) I did apologize to my manager in private because I didn’t think Miss Sociopath would explode like THAT. Manager said it was cool and enjoy the rest of my holiday. Which I did~ So now I’m back at work, Bean and the Manager are the first coworkers I’ve seen so far. And this is what I’ve heard regarding Miss Sociopath: - She’s pissy because I called her out -  She’s driven the Department of Personnel crazy to the point that they hang up if she calls. - She’s texted the Manager so much and at such odd hours (3am) that we can’t text her after 6pm or on weekends. (unless emergency like gas-leak or something) - She’s called Bean a ‘Fat Toad’ (Bean lost like 99lbs in a short time, rude) - She’s been rude towards customers - She’s tried to whore herself out AT WORK (chatting up guys to see if they’re willing... DON’T STICK YOUR DICK IN CRAZY) - She’s threatened and yelled muliple times she’s going to quit (oh please do, you won’be missed) So the manager is going to have a review with her (letting slip Miss Sociopath’s contract ends in February) and that she’s probably only going to give her the 8-hours stated on her contract. (Missy ain’t happy about that) We’re all getting a review but Miss Sociopath is probably the only one on the chopping block.

The science in regards to trans women in sports leans both ways. Because currently it's a hotly politicized issue. There are studies indicating there is no advantage, there are some studies indicating there are still some advantages, there are some studies indicating that the notion males are inherently going to be stronger and faster than females is bullshit. Like I can't understand how you people can pretend to be feminists when so often the shit you say literally comes across as "females are weak delicate flowers". Terfs have literally bitched that a trans woman beat a cis woman in skateboarding, so any argument you people put forward about how trans women have some kind of unfair advantage I will meet with extreme skepticism

trans women are male. cis women are female. males naturally have more physical power than females. estrogen might change that a little but the pattern is still there.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season 4

1. Favorite character of this season?

Spike. I loved him as the villain in seasons prior, but this is the start of slowly turning good Spike and especially this whacky in-between phase is such a delight. He's clearly not good, but he still involuntarily helps some. Also, lots of tied up Spike, which is a nice visual (sue me).

I love his dynamic with Willow, it's weird. I loooved when he was living with Giles, I adore the snark that goes on between those two, the banter is delightful. Him living with Xander was so much fun. I just really enjoy his journey and season 4 in particular is such a wild ride there.

2. Outstanding minor character (positive or negative)?

HARMONY KENDALL. I love Harmony. I think Harm is an underrated character. Honestly, I mean I am going beyond season 4 here but – she stays herself? She is a vampire, but she is still Harmony. If anything, becoming a vampire actually improved her. Everyone loses their soul and turns into careless killers, she learns self-help books, gets out of an abusive relationship and learns her own worth. Especially under this universe's premise of what vampires are supposed to be and what the bite is supposed to do to a human, I find her character development absolutely fascinating!

3. Favorite character dynamic?

It really is Spike and Giles. What they have is so peculiar, it is peak snarky banter, it is so much fun to watch. In a season I overall didn't like much because of the military nonsense, this was an utter delight and one of the things that still made me love it in a way.

4. Favorite canon romantic ship?

TARA/WILLOW. MY FIRST CANON LESBIANS.

And look, I will not be that easily baited with canon gays generally, but... these two? They were the first lesbians I got to see on screen as a child. The first. They shaped me fundamentally, they mean so much to me on a much deeper level for that because they really were the first time I saw that a girl can like a girl, that a girl doesn't have to like a guy.

Willow's storyline means so much to me, because you can taste the heteronormativity in her early upbringing, everything about her – including Xander and Oz – makes perfect sense to me, as a lesbian who grew up in a heteronormative world. And the gentle, curious manner in which she came out and how she fell in love with Tara, the way those two just... came together, it means so much to me because it meant so much to me growing up.

5. Least favorite canon romantic ship?

Honestly, Riley and Buffy. I just... I care a negative amount about this and considering the fandom discussion is always Buffy/Angel vs Buffy/Spike, I gather the majority of fandom doesn't quite care either. It's just... so boring and plain most of the time? And actively not my cup of tea the rest of the time – when he goes full Good Military Soldier Boi.

6. Favorite episode?

The favorite episode this season was 04x09 Something Blue – it is just... whacky and fun and it gave me my first Spuffy aesthetic. But in a fun way. I really love this episode, there is no evil to fight, just a spell gone wrong with hilarious outcomes.

7. Least favorite episode?

So I have this rating system, where I rate every individual episode something from 1 – really forgettable or really cringey – to 5 – outstandingly favorite episode. Season 1 had one episode in it that was a 1 for me, season 2 had three such episodes, season 3 had four, but season 4 actually has ten of them so that's a bit too much to list them all. There just are too many episodes I didn't enjoy in this season and it greatly links to the fact that I hate the overarching villain of this season – usually the 1 rated episodes end up being dumb filler episodes.

So... I guess the worst offender is the one where they make Oz, of all characters, cheat and then have the morally offended Willow, who had cheated first. I mean, her cheating on Oz does certainly not justify that he cheats on her, but the hypocrisy of it was still very over the top. I really hate that this is how they ended that relationship and that this is how they write Oz out of the show, by making him cheat on her because the animalistic draw is too strong. What a load of crap that was.

8. Favorite Monster Of The Week?

The Gentlemen were delightfully creepy and weird one-off villains who gave their episode such a different flare, it is one of my favorites definitely and they are some of my favorite Buffy villains.

9. Least favorite Monster Of The Week?

I do think another weakness of this season is it's lack of good Monsters Of The Week.

I mean, seriously, this is the season where a bitch demon roommate is trying to steal Buffy's soul? A Poltergeist triggered by Riley/Buffy fucking too much, I mean seriously? A barkeeper who turns people into Neanderthals with beer... And that's not mentioning the awkward Thanksgiving episode where they have a moral dilemma over whether or not the vengeful native American warrior spirit ought to be killed or not because he kinda has a point you know. There aren't many one-off monsters in this season and the majority of them are... not impressive, really.

But I guess if I'd have to pick one, it'd be the “Buffy's sexuality is bad!” episode then. Aka, Buffy and Riley fuck so much that they awaken a Poltergeist, indirectly shaming Buffy once again for her sexuality. Which. Not a good look, you know. Also, just really weird concept there.

10. Rate the overarching villain!

Sucks. Seriously. Every villain is somehow engaging or has something about them that makes them interesting, but the Initiative? It's just the military with its blind, obedient soldier boys who don't question jackshit, which really does account for 50% of the trouble in this season. Walsh could have been a great villain but she was offed barely after being revealed to be a bad guy and then her version of Frankenstein's monster becomes to actual endgame villain and literally nothing about Adam is interesting or appealing or engaging. He ponders philosophical questions, but not in a manner that has you trying to hash them out alongside him, it is awkward and tedious to watch.

Bonus: Other thoughts?

It's just an overall relatively awkward... adjustment phase. I understand that. Seasons 1 to 3 were the high school phase with set roles for everyone. Seasons 5 to 7 are the adult phases. And season 4 is that figuring yourself out season – Giles is without a job, not sure if he is still a watcher, Willow comes to terms with being a lesbian, Oz leaves to figure out the wolf inside of him, Xander goes from job to job not knowing where he fits in, Buffy struggles with where she wants to land in life, Spike is somewhere in the middle between helpful and villain. But if everyone including the overarching plot are 'somewhere in the middle', the entire thing becomes... muddled and awkward.

It didn't make sense in season 1 plot-wise either, if only for the fact that neither one of them seems to have realised what it meant that Clary and Jace very clearly weren't siblings. For some reason, Jocelyn had a shard of a portal to this world, but this world held nothing that helped the quest in any way or shape and they came out of it with jackshit... like... it literally did nothing aside from being a fast forward to showing Them Endgame Ships...

It added no substance and only plotholes and it would have been suuuch a cool tool to actually show something... deeper. I would have loved to see a good Jonathan and how he’d fit into their little family, see Jace’s birth parents and maybe even Imogen in whatever capacity she’d have in this reality? Do... Do more than just show “look, even without magic, Clary and Jace, Alec and Magnus, Isabelle and Simon, they all would still become endgame!”. Alternate realities are fun because they offer to show something alternate. Izzy wore glasses and a Star Wars shirt and Alec was less grumpy. Wow. Such amazing differences, truly groundbreaking.
