McDonald's Treasureland Adventure in a minute

Does anybody else remember this game? My nephew got it from the thrift store when we were little. It was super weird, but actually pretty fun. My favorite bit was that his "weapon" was throwing magic sparkles from his pockets.

The Genesis of Our Lives presents: Spot Goes to Hollywood!

Release date: November 1995

These days, when someone thinks “licensed game,” they mean something like Injustice, Batman Arkham Asylum, Goldeneye 007, or Marvel VS Capcom; games based on comics, movies, and other fictional works. But the 90′s, particularly the first half, were notable for a different type of licensed game: food mascots. I’ve already done a game like this with McDonald’s Treasureland Adventure, but Ronald was far from the only name trying to get you to stuff your face to throw their hat in the video ring.

One of those was Cool Spot, the mascot of the 7up soft drink. This guy actually appeared in a number of different games, including being the American reskin for a European McDonald’s game on Game Boy. Most are familiar with the Cool Spot platformer for the Genesis and SNES among others, perhaps moreso after The Completionist reviewed it. I did play that as a kid, but the one I remember most from my Albertson’s rental days was this one. So much so a “recreation” of it was one of the more comprehensible movies I made with 3D Movie Maker at the time.

I start university today, though by the time this post goes up I’ll be done with my first class. Streams may be postponed for the semester again depending on how well I manage to keep on top of my schoolwork. So I hope you enjoy this game along with me.
