2.14, in which Steve spends a consecutive eight seconds of screentime heart eying at Danny for being ridiculously kind and decent and good
Also known as an average day in the life of Steve McGarrett, I suppose.

Maybe it’s because I’m a Hawaii five-0 fan, but I can’t see Buck and Eddie as romantically written after watching Steve and Danny. I know they’re different shows, but it’s night and day even with some similarities.
(Warning for very small, vague spoilers. I’m halfway through S10 of Hawaii 5-0 so no spoilers for S10 please. Also I highly rec H50)
McDanno:
Characters always commenting on their relationship. “Mom and dad” “parents” “married”
Buddie:
2 comments on their relationship. Online stream viewers, Elf. Both in the earliest seasons for Eddie.
McDanno:
Takes care of Danny’s kids. Kisses them on the head. Tucks them into bed. Says I love you multiple times. Steve rescues Danny’s daughter from multiple highly dangerous situations and is openly distraught about it. Calls Danny’s daughter “my girl.” Brings Danny’s kid into Steve’s life, even when he’s in a relationship.
Buddie:
Takes care of Chris on fewer ~on screen~ occasions. Openly distraught when saving him on one the one occasion the show gave. Does obvi 100% love Chris and spends time with him, but it’s seen less on screen due to the nature of the show.
McDanno:
Danny calls Steve “babe”. Multiple times. An episode. Steve calls (and refers to) Danny “Danno” a family nickname.
Buddie:
Contrary to popular opinion, Buck has never called Eddie “Eds” nor do they regularly use any other cute nicknames for each other.
Mcdanno:
Treated in the show as a romantic pairing when they’re both not in relationships, and even when they are. In most episodes. In a fantasy sequence (no spoilers) they literally take pictures with a certain child and grow old together. They cuddled on the couch. They were roommates. They’ve pretended to be a gay couple. They touch each other all the freaking time: arms, shoulders, hands, lower back (it was a joke but also not), head. Have slow-ish danced together. Eat breakfast together while sitting on the counter. They’d save each other no matter what it takes. They went on a couples retreat. Couples counseling. They say I love you constantly, like once they started saying it they just kept saying it. They’ve given literal pieces of each other to the other (hard to not spoiler that so kept it vague)
Buddie:
They aren’t treated like a romantic pairing in every episode. At most they say the other always invites the other and they’ve been seen together in the end of episode wrap ups. The couch theory would’ve been a great time to dig into stuff. They’d save each other, but because of the show it’s not nearly the same level of involvement. Have never said I love you (correct me on that if I forgot). They’re treated as best friends who are clearly very much in each other’s lives, but they didn’t push the line into it being romance.
Mcdanno:
They’re literally intertwined in each other’s lives. Like financially, physically, emotionally, career-wise. We know how much they’re involved with each other even when the other isn’t there. Other characters will bring them up. They can’t have storylines without the other being involved in some way.
Buddie:
They’re in each other’s lives legally, emotionally, and career-wise. Though, they can have separate storylines that don’t involve the other.
McDanno:
Talk about the hard stuff a lot. Their lives, feelings, relationships, sex lives.
Buddie:
Talk about the hard stuff less. When there’s monumental stuff they do, but it’s rarer, but the show is also less dark and has less episodes.
Mcdanno:
Can read each other’s minds and body language in and out of work: People comment on it.
Buddie:
They can read each other. Mostly at work. Nobody ever comments beyond their good work.
McDanno:
Called each other “brother” a few times and it didn’t kill the non-platonic vibes.
Buddie:
Called each other “brother” once, and if done again, it would kill any romantic vibes.
In all:
They’re different shows. H50 has about 25 episodes a season and is a different genre of show to 911. But the relationships, the two men, divorced, kid(s), work together, is similar, though drastically different.
McDanno never went cannon. I can watch the show and see it both romantic and like an amazing bromance. It’s not a far grasp to see the romance.
Who knows about Buddie going canon, the show is still on air. But it reads like a very deep friendship, a great bromance. The romance stuff isn’t there. Do I think it could be? Yeah, but they have to put it in by choice and not leave it to interpretation. As of now? Nothing that can be 100% read as romantic.

Thoughts on Hawaii Five 0 Part 1
I just started Hawaii Five-O from a recommendation by a friend and I completed the first season so here are my thoughts. I'M LOVING IT THUS FAR BTW. (Goes without saying but obv my rant contains spoilers) First episode opening scene Steve father getting murdered. Crazy. I love the team. Danny is fun and his relationship with his daughter is the cutest thing as well as him and Steve bond. I like his characterization as a Dad and a family man. You really see it in the episode where Rachel got carjacked and Matt came by. Steve and him made me laugh so much the first episode because of their tense first meeting, Steve forcing him to be his partner and the scene where Danny punched him. I like how he's kind of the angel on Steve shoulder that is telling him what are you doing, relax, we must follow procedure etc. I hate this plot line with him and Rachel carrying on with an affair like have we forgotten all she did to you.
Clearly Steve forgot how humans act in the real world. I do love how he has the team back every time and is 10 toes behind them like stealing the money to get the collar off Chin or when Danny was dealing with the carjacking and then Matt he was like don't worry go ahead and I'll come help u when I can. Idk if it's just cause I think he's hot or a testament to Alex acting but Alex does really well at showing his emotions facially. Some of the scenes you just feel when looking at him whether that's a smile or him getting emotional when confronting criminals about his parents' murder. His eyes are very expressive and I love it. He's very intelligent and despite him being a trained killer he's good at being soft when it's needed. I remember the first couple of episodes I was shocked by every min he was breaking the law with how he dealt with suspects like the throwing the man in the sea with sharks and attaching the man to the top of the car and going for a joy ride. Crazy. He's kind of simmered down now though. I think at least or I've just gotten used to his brand of crazy. I just wanna give him a hug every time he talks about his parents' murder. Both lovable guys and their dynamic adds some light heartedness to the show. I don't think I'm a shipper but I can clearly see why McDanno is strong amongst the fanbase.

H50 season 10, episode 1 thoughts...
Danny. Did you let Steve at your hair with his clippers? Why you guys gotta do this to me? Steve's hair is on point this season. But now you've lost half of yours?
Did you realise the combo of you both with good hair from the early seasons was just too hot to handle? Huh?
Also Steve's silver stubble is doing things for me I did not expect.
Steve, babe. You're gonna tell your date that you love Danny and your relationship is like a marriage? Considering he gets another date and apparently this Brooke is newly divorced why do I think she now thinks Steve and Danny are divorced?
Oh, to be at those PTA meetings...
Also, Danny, you are far too invested in Steve's date. While also making sure Steve's attention stays firmly on you. Get a clue please.
I'm sorry, Steve just told them to split into groups of two... who does Adam get? Poor Adam all alone.
Parkour! This guy is all rolling and falling along while Steve is more elegant with his running. Oh no. Why do I think Steve's not gonna make that jump as easily? Steve you just lost your elegance. Also, you know Danny's gonna yell at you about this, right?
I love Danny just popping up - Steve's always gotta chase after the perp no matter what while Danny is like, okay, so if I calmly walk this way I'll be able to cut them off.
Yes, Danny, hide your concern for Steve by calling him old.
Kinda disappointed there wasn't more plot around the snipers being coerced or something... especially with the way the first one shot himself then the second refuses to surrender, it gave me vibes of they're doing this cos loved ones are being threatened or they're being blackmailed etc.
Okay, so not only does Steve love Danny, and calls their relationship like a marriage. Now Steve and Brooke are breaking up with Danny - because obviously Steve can't have another relationship until he breaks up with Danny.
And it was Brooke's idea. At least she recognises the threat Danny is.
Love Tani calling mcdanno mum and dad.
(Also Danny's wearing a white t-shirt. Is that deliberate? I normally don't pay attention to wardrobe the way some ppp do, but isn't that what Danny wore on their first date back in s1?)

Okay so I'm still at the start of s7 and so far I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how much I like this season so far!
Like after the end of season 6 I was really fucking pissed because of how they treated Danny and how nonchalant Steve seemed to be about it all, but let me tell you -
nothing healed my cold dead soul like that little "I love you" talk Danny and steve have in ep 1 of s7 and how happy Danny looks when Steve finally FINALLY listens to him and doesn't get himself killed as a result! And after that Steve genuinely does try to take care of himself for once?? even if it's just a tiny bit- that's real character-growth right there, my guy! I'm so proud of him!
Also the mcdanno banter is suddenly fun and lighthearted again? Even kind and sweet at times? What happened there?
Don't get me wrong I absolutely love it!
It feels like there is finally some maturity and actual progress to their carguments again like they are actually working through their issues instead of just being bitter?
And I'm so here for that!
After almost two season of them just throwing venom at each other it's just so nice to hear them say stuff again like "I don't want you to be sad :(" "well that's why you're there, you make me happy" ??? <3. URGH MY HEART
Hell yes give me more of that please!
I don't even care about all the Catherine and God awful Doris stuff as long as these dorks finally get to be good for each other again!
Also really love chin and kono getting some much deserved screentime and adventures away from the team and the return of Adam and max! I missed those guys!
Another thing I really love is how - even if I hate the return of Doris with a passion- the team went immediately after Steve to Marokko this time! because they ARE a family!
Also love the detail that Steve kept his promise and informed Danny what was going on and of course Danny spilled it to the rest of the team and it's just so wholesome how much they care <3
Just love the atmosphere so far, it reminds me so much of the earlier seasons in the best way
I didn't even know I was starving for nice sweet mcdanno banter and Jerry being the uncle everyone wishes for, and Lou looking after grace while Danny is away, and chin discovering that yes he'd actually really love to be a dad, and kono and Adam getting to be happy, and kono being allowed to have a female friend for once who is not five 0, and just everyone feeling like a happy supportive family without to much seriousness in the way
Just in general the overall vibe within the team seems to be so much lighter compared to last season? Like you can really feel how Steve's almost death really brought them closer together?
It's good stuff!
Now I'm glad I kept watching,
fingers crossed it'll stay that way

Just dumping my Ina Paha thoughts here. 🙃
Tumblr media
First of all I did NOT know it was the 100th episode going into this, so i was very confused watching the montage at the end lol
I also had to click out and make sure I didn't click the wrong episode when the Pilot started playing at the beginning. When I heard Danny's voice on the phone instead of Hesse's I swear I got whiplash
It's filmed so well (bar where they reshot the pilot where Steve gets Danny on the phone instead of a dead dad, in which they literally forgot to put the same filter over the scene to make the stitching coherent) and I absolutely love the camera work they did with the white-room and the video projections. It felt very much a level above normal network television cinematography, especially the parts where Steve's going in and out of the hallucinations.
Steve finally FINALLY killing Wo-Fat was so cathartic, it should have happened ages ago but I'm willing to look past all the dumb ways he survived just to allow this incredible ending to his story.
Ina Paha gave me Kono doing... this. I owe Grace Park my whole life. Pls costuming department put her in hot pink again 💗
Tumblr media
yes, it was a Steve episode. but Danny REALLY shone, first as the only resident Actual Detective figuring out what happened to Steve by the tire-tracks, rampaging through the compound steadily and efficiently and knocking people off without a pause, and then in Steve's mind shooting Hesse's kneecaps off?!?!?! That was CRAZY and probably not suppose to be as hot as it was and definitely made me want an ex-mobster AU immediately. Basically I have a competency kink and really like badass!danny shit 😊
Seeing Chin's long hair again made me swoon
My jaw dropped when I saw Jenna! I think it's really interesting that Steve still thinks of her so much, and I was surprised that she showed up in both the actual dreams and the montage. I definitely underestimated how much she impacted Steve's life, it seems, and I hate that we'll never hear him address that and we'll only know about it inadvertently like this.
(hand over the heart for how lori got like. one team shot. poor girlie.)
⭐I took the montage at the end as being flashbacks and memories that Steve was having as he left the compound. Looking at it through that lens certainly makes one unwell.
Obligatory squeal for Adam appearing just to save the day :))) look below to see the love of my life! :)))))) ⬇⬇⬇
Tumblr media
Of course, the obligatory mcdanno bullet(s). It writes itself! The way Danny said Steve's name so small and broken when he found him. The way they look at each other on the ground, the pain their faces. I need an official apology statement from Scott and Alex for it. Can we talk about what flashes by during the montage at the end? (IMO it being Steve's memories.) So much Danny.
The first thing is Danny and Steve's first meeting. Jfc. The showrunners milk it SO MUCH and who's complaining
The big, rocking hug. The hands clasping underground. Gracie of course. And then Danny collapsing from the bioweapon, which to be honest I was NOT expecting to see at all--it felt like a genuinely strange choice to include in there and it really ONLY makes sense if you go along with all that being what Steve's remembering. Even then, I was surprised to see it, so basically this is Hawaii Five-Oh making mcdanno gayer than even I was wanting them to be. Steve still thinks about that? From so long ago? Even with so many other close calls in between then and now? Good fucking lord ok then loverboy that's WILD. Canon accepted ig this show is just pure whump.
Danny goes through all of this just days after losing his brother and killing Reyes. JFC can we please address that. I need a 30k introspection fic to let me into this man's mind rn.
The Wo Fat v.s. Steve fight at the end was INCREDIBLE. I would love to give the choreographer's hand a shake, it's some of the best work I've seen on television in a long time. It was impressive for a procedural like this. It was long and physical and you truly didn't know what the outcome was going to be; it everything that their built-up relationship deserved for a conclusion. It also happening with a Steve coming off of hours of torture and drugging was crazy (guess we finally know who would win a PVP if they were both at full strength!). That being said I was really impressed with Wo Fat's capabilities and physical prowess, I was not expecting it to be so even and close to the line. I actually jumped when Steve LIFTED him up into the lighting fixture. We do not talk about Steve's (Alex's???) raw upper-body strength enough.
Anyway. Electricity in the water play. The physicality hell that this gif below is ⬇. Fire extinguishers and loaded needles. Crazy martial arts. Chair and buckets (holy shit did y'all see the force with which Wo Fat SHOT that bucket?????) flying. All's fair. I loved it.
Tumblr media
The shot going right through the forehead, clean. I don't know how to put into words why that's so monumental to me but it is.
The mystery bad lady was SO intriguing, I wish we got more from her... How does she know Wo Fat? Why was she entrusted with all that information on him and Steve and especially Doris? Absolutely where did she come from, what was her name? Why did I have a huge huge hot crush on her? All important questions. (Goes to show that h50 CAN give us some more genuine badass, not just there to date someone women characters, just explicitly choose not to. I'm holding out for Ellie to remain platonic so hard right now.)
Almost forgot Danny in that black Hawaiian shirt. Will be whimpering over that image forever. The whole episode I was trying to focus on the underlining betrayal mystery they were laying out but every time my brain started working too hard Scott with his stupid waist and those flower patterns just started flashing into my head
Again, are you seeing this:
Tumblr media
I'm unwell and so so happy.
H50 you're a gem when you want to be.

Okay, I don't like Dannyless episodes. I mean, I don't like when he's far away from home and we can't see him (and McDanno) on screen. BUT. I totally love one of such episodes, a "Lou and Steve eating pancakes" scene in 6x19.
I love that Lou and Steve are talking (mostly about pancakes), they're having their bro time but of course Steve can't stop thinking about his boy. So it's like:
Lou: Mmm... Pancakes. I love them. These are the best. Mmm. Coconut, I like th...
Steve: YOU KNOW WHAT DANNY LIKES?
Lou: *oho, here we go again*
Steve: Pancakes with boysenberry!
Bro talk is over. All is about Danny now.
So poor Lou asks Steve about Danny. Lou calls Danny "Detective Sunshine" and it's like, you know... Detective Sunshine, gosh. It's like a guy asking his bro: "Hey, how's your sweetheart?" ("How's your wifey?" - hubby in Steve's case).
And seriously, when they finally stop talking about Danny, Lou starts talking about Renee - don't tell me it doesn't look like two bros (Steve -> grass widower) chatting about their spouses! 😂 (I love the way the narration jumps from Danny to Renee ♥️)
And their talk, gosh. Steve's face when he talks about Danny or hears his name:
Tumblr media
And of course Steve KNOWS. He knows well what Danny is doing in Vegas. He knows he's with Grace and her cheerleading team. And he finds Danny "chaperoning Grace's cheerleading team to a competition" damn funny (but also cute).
Oh, and when Lou says: "You mean to tell me Danny Williams is down in Vegas with a bunch of 13-year-old Beliebers? Oh, man, I wish I could go down there and see that!". Gooooosh, Steve is not like "Yeah" or just "Me too". No. Steve is like "I TRIED, man". Steve says: "Well, you know what, I tried. I checked Grace's Instagram, but she's got all her dad's buddies blocked. So I couldn't see any pictures".
Steve is missing his husband (and daughter) so much and he has to know everything, he has to see what's going on there in Vegas. My gosh, I don't know why Gracie blocked him but it was truly cruel 😂 And it's so hilarious to see Steve being like "She blocked me. Can you believe it, Lou? My little girl blocked me and now I can't stare at Danny's new photos! *sob* What if he's cheerleading with them? God, it would be so cute. He would be so sexy with pom-poms...".
But the best comes when Lou says: "Well, what the hell you think we got a crime lab for? You should get a techie right on that!".
Steve's face:
Tumblr media
dork 😂😂😂
Lou is now his god. Lou showed him the light 😆
Tumblr media
"You know what? I'm gonna call Eric after breakfast!", says Steve in that scene.
He said that and... what if he really did it? 😂😂😂 What if he really ate those pancakes and immediately called Eric and it was like:
Steve: I need you to unblock me on Gracie's Instagram!
Eric: Excuse me, what?
Steve: And you know what, I need an access to Danny's phone.
Eric: What?! Hack it???
Steve: Well, if you're offering. Yeah, please.
Steve can't be a grass widower. He can't be far away from Danny. Geez, Danny, come back! Cause your man is losing control 😂

Ever since @teruel-a-witch posted her hot McDanno motorcycle boyfriends collage the other day, the idea of a McDanno biker AU wouldn't leave me alone. It didn't help that the post made me reread some parts of The ‘Auna Club series by mrspdrona, but mostly I got inspired by our subsequent conversation about whether Steve and Danny really would become mob-like criminals as members of an MC. I thought of some alternative ideas.
Steve
Tumblr media
After Steve dedicated 15 years of his life to the Navy, all he gets as thanks for his service is a dishonorable discharge due to DADT. Add insult to injury, it had been the Petty Officer he's been having a secret affair with for almost a whole year who'd told when he'd been asked. Steve had secretly hoped this thing between them could be going somewhere, eventually, and never has he been more wrong. He's not even sure what hurts worse, the betrayal of the person he thought he knew, or the disrespect of the institution he would have been ready to die for.
So now he’s got literally nothing left: He's got no job and no career, no more friends nor family, no home and no place to go, no plan and nothing to do and he’s so. fucking. ANGRY.
What he does have is a motorcycle. He’s always loved bikes, they're so much more interesting than the stupid vintage cars his dad used to love. It was a guy Steve knew in high school (and who he might've had a major crush on), who let him ride his bike once and it was an instant addiction. (Ironically, the guy became his dad’s cop partner later, so the crush faded quickly but not the love for bikes.)
So when Steve gets out of the Navy, the first thing he does is getting his bike out of storage—and then he just takes off.
He's got nowhere to be and nowhere to go, so he just rides, not paying much attention to where he's going, content with wherever the roads might take him. Which happens to be the southern end of New Jersey—eventually.
He's been out and about for a few months, stopping and making new friends here, picking up a guy there, always leaving after a day or two and before trouble can find him. He's coming up close to a year when he runs into problems with his bike. Turns out years of being in storage weren't great for it. Steve knows his way around the engine just fine, thank you very much, but he doesn't have the means to fix what's wrong this time. A trip to the nearest shop is unavoidable if he doesn't want to strand in the middle of the road in the middle of nowhere with his beloved bike in pieces.
And isn't it just his kind of luck that the closest garage he finds seems to be firmly in the hands of the local chapter of a one-percenter motorcycle club? At least ten of the guys hanging around are clearly recognizable as club members by the patches on their leather cuts. Steve can feel their eyes on him as he approaches though no one is looking at him directly.
He's as wary of them as they seem to be of him, if not more. He's aware they don't like strangers and he's even more aware that these kind of 'clubs' are just as full of bullshit and toxic masculinity as the Navy. Steve has sworn to himself that he wouldn't hide anymore, that anyone who has a problem with who he is can fuck right off. He's fucking done with playing by anyone else's rules. But he needs his bike to be fixed and he doesn't want to cause trouble so he keeps his head down, trying to find the right balance between looking intimidating enough without being provocative.
It works better than he wants it to. Because while he's waiting for someone to look at his bike, some of the guys cautiously strike up a conversation with him, like they're testing the waters, trying to figure out where he stands. They've recognized him as ex-military and they're friendly towards him, probably they've gauged him as potentially useful. They ask him which branch he served in and when he left; when they ask about the why Steve doesn't exactly lie when he tells them he got kicked out for conduct unbecoming, but he doesn't elaborate either.
Turns out he was right: When it becomes clear that the repairs on his bike take at least a day or two, he gets offered help and accommodation by no one less than the club's Vice President. Of course he’s being asked to work a job for the club in exchange—but he's been expecting it and he doesn’t hesitate for long. He doesn't have anything to lose. He’s got the skills, why not use them to his advantage as he pleases when the Navy doesn’t want him as he is?
Steve doesn’t plan on staying. Instead he plans to leave as soon as he's got his bike back and his debt is settled, except—
Except there’s this short blonde dude everyone calls Danno that has caught his attention. It's not solely his good looks that catch Steve’s interest, though. It’s more that he sticks out. He’s not a big number in the club—yet. He’s ambitious and he’s clearly set to move up the ranks soon, but to Steve’s trained eyes he’s trying too hard. Something about him doesn't pan out, but Steve can't put his finger on what it is.
Plus, the guy seems to have taken an interest in Steve, too. He's always around, watching, observing. He's always got a snarky remark and Steve can’t tell if it's a risky game of flirting he's playing or if it’s dislike over a perceived competition or if there’s another, ulterior motive. Either way, he's intrigued enough to stay for another job and he doesn't exactly mind that Danno seems to have become the guy to keep an eye on him.
He soon learns that they work well together, and it makes even more sense when he learns Danno used to be a cop. He's got tactical training under his belt and it shows. He's also been fired from the police, which has something to do with drinking and anger issues and his ex-wife. But whatever the details, the bitter experience is something that connects them. Steve finds there's a lot of connection between them and if the circumstances were any different he's sure there could be a friendship between them or—
But it's neither the right time nor the right place and Steve is a burned child so what the hell is he even thinking?
Danny
Tumblr media
Danny is far from the disgraced cop he pretends to be.
What is true is that his ex-wife is the main reason why he's here. What is true is that he needed a reason to pull his head out of the bottle he fell in after she left him. What is true is that his temper is the character trait that got him this job. Well that and his love for motorcycles. And the job is a long-term undercover op to disassemble fucking Jersey Devils Motorcycle Club and their business once and for all.
He's been with the club for close to two years. He came highly recommended (however his boss pulled that off) and he hightailed it through the prospect phase, proving himself worthy of a full patch in record time. Always there, always doing what he's told to do, always loyal. Club comes first. Some days he can barely stand to look at himself in the mirror for the things he did for the club without batting an eyelid. What keeps him going is the good progress he makes in building a case against these assholes. They're going down so hard and very soon, except—
Except this tall, dark and handsome stranger called McGarrett walks into the picture and all over the case he's built, seemingly out of nowhere. It turns out to be the best thing and the worst thing that could possibly happen, both at the same time.
It's the worst thing because it's a major set back in Danny's work when the VP hires McGarrett for a job that's usually handled internally. And it's the best thing because it makes Danny realize the club's management is aware of being watched. That they're outsourcing their dirty work so it can't be stuck to the club. He doesn't think they're on to him yet, but it's a warning to keep his head down.
It leaves him stuck between a rock and a hard place though: If he warns McGarrett about what he's getting into, he'll make the club even more suspicious. Worst case, he puts McGarrett directly in the line of fire. And if he doesn't warn him, he'll become collateral damage in the big picture of the case. Hang together, hanged together. And McGarrett is far too interesting to be hanged. Or go to prison, or whatever.
Point is, the man has caught Danny's attention. Despite his closed-off behavior, despite his ruthlessness, despite the crazy devil-may-care attitude. There's something beneath all these defensive walls that is hurt and vulnerable but good in it's core. Danny would love to find out what the guy is hiding, if only the circumstances were any different.
As it is, he volunteers to 'babysit' McGarrett and it comes with several benefits: First of all, it strengthens his credibility within the club and hopefully scatters any doubts about his integrity. Second, he can keep tabs on which jobs they make McGarrett do for them which is relevant for his case. And thirdly, he gets to spend some time with the man—
And then Danny does learns about one of McGarrett's—Steve's—secrets very soon, up close and personal, when he finds himself pressed against the wall of the club house. It's late and they just returned from an errand and now Steve's hands are on his shoulders, holding him in place and Steve crushes his mouth against Danny's in a rough kiss. There's nothing cautious or questioning about it and Danny's kissing back after only a second of hesitation, giving as good as he gets.
The moment McGarrett pulls back and losens his hold of him, Danny grabs his arms and in a flash has reversed their positions.
"You always just take what you want?" Danny asks breathless. He's got his hands on McGarrett's biceps and uses his whole body to press the man into the wall.
"Now that I can," Steve says, voice hoarse, as he bucks up against Danny's body. Danny can't help but grind back and lean in for another kiss, demanding and urgent. When he comes back up for air a long moment later, he finds his hands have moved to cup McGarrett's face and Steve's hands are on his hips, holding him close.
"This why the Army kicked you out?" Danny pants. "Someone told them you're gay?"
"It was the Navy, but yeah." Steve manages a rueful smile. "What if someone told your guys in there what we're doing here? They kick you out, too?" Steve jerks his head toward the club house.
Danny stares at him for a moment. He's never thought about it and his stomach plummets. These guys aren't exactly the liberal kind—
"Probably," Danny says and maybe now is the time to come clean. "I've got no idea to be honest. Steve, listen to me. These are not my guys. I'm not one of them. I'm—" He realizes he's still holding Steve's face in his hands and lets them drop away. Taking a deep breath and mentally bracing himself he admits in a low voice, "I'm still a cop. I didn't get fired. I'm here to take the club down."
Side by side
Tumblr media
A myriad of emotions run through Steve at Danny's admission. It's not so much surprise, he knew there was something about Danny that made him stand out from the rest of the club guys. But the feeling of betrayal is hitting him full force, the feeling of being lied to so fresh in his memory that he can barely breathe—
Luckily, Danny takes a step back before Steve can push him away. He puts some distance between them, his instincts telling him to run. But as he thinks it through, he realizes it's different. Danny lied before, but in the moment Steve made himself vulnerable by kissing him, Danny rewarded him with the truth. Danny trusts him enough to no longer lie to him.
"We shouldn't talk about it here," Steve says, turning back to Danny, "but I want to help you."
Over the next couple of days Danny lets Steve in on the case. Again, it shows that they make a great team and together, they formulate a plan to bring the Jersey Devils down.
Danny runs all his evidence, all their ideas and suggestions by his superiors and they approve—enthusiastically. Everything goes back and forth a lot of times until all details are cleared and an operation can finally be set up. It could be an epic victory—
There's one catch: Danny has promised Steve that he'll go free and therefore, he has placed a request with his boss to make Steve's help 'official'. And his boss agreed to the deal—until Steve's background check comes back flagged. "Dishonorable discharge, Danny, you know the rules. My hands are tied," his boss says and Danny is livid. No matter how much Danny argues, how many times he points out that Steve got fired because of fucking DADT, that Steve is not a criminal, that without his help the whole case wouldn't have panned out, he can't change the man's mind. It's the biggest bullshit he's ever heard, and he's lived and breathed the fucking Jersey Devils for two years!
That's why, when everything is over, when all members of the Jersey Devils are behind bars and charged for their crimes, Danny and Steve get on their bikes—and then they just take off into the sunset. Together.

Meri, would you like to play that Tumblr game? If no - ok! 🙂 If yes, then: Mary 🙂
Sexuality Headcanon: High libido pansexual. This has a lot to do with the McGarrett family dynamic that happens. Mary is the baby and she was young when Doris "died". John being a product of that time really wasn't the best dad in a lot of ways but at least with Steve...he was a man. With Mary? Her puberty probably scared him the most and any talks if there were any probably had the opposite effect he wanted. The McGarretts are...emotionally guarded...even among themselves. They wanted to be strong for each other but that built walls even within the home. When Mary needed attention, as any child would and does, she didn't get any...unless she was acting out. How would she then get her dads and her big brother's attention? Wrong crowds and stuff and add it with the typical teenage hormones...I feel she explored that. With a variety of colorful characters. She was lonely and even if the relationships weren't strong enough to last before being sent away she searched for them because she wasn't getting the attention she wanted at home. Gender Headcanon: She/They. She grew up in a masculine dominated house hold. I think she was a tomboy that kept up with Steve and his friends well enough...and as she got older she also embraced her femininity but sometimes struggled with feeling womanly enough. In those moments they/them fits and carries her.
A ship I have with said character: Through talks and chats with @cowandcalf I see her with Kawika. It's really just based on the talks we've had. A BROTP I have with said character: Obviously I adore episodes with her and Steve. Getting an insight to their dynamic and how they rebonded after the gap and despite always being siblings becoming friends again. I do think she and Eric would have a fun friendship and they just hang out and get wasted sharing McGarrett and Williams family secrets.
A NOTP I have with said character: I really don't have one but that's really just because of how limited time we see her. A random headcanon: She sent Steve care packages while he was deployed. Maybe they didn't talk as much and he mostly went to see her physically when he needed to bail her out but I feel like they were trauma bonded enough that even if it's just a jar of Steve's favorite peanut butter or snack he'd share with her on those stressful nights as kids when their dad was out for a case and should have been home but wasn't and they were both silently worried about being orphans and he tried to cheer her up by sharing with her his favorite snack he'd been waiting to eat. Was their relationship strained? Sure, but I hate thinking of them as strangers so I like to believe he sent her post cards from every place he was deployed and she sent him care packages that reminded him he wasn't alone. General Opinion over said character: I think she's really fun. I wish we'd had more of her. Even if she couldn't be on screen, Steve mentioning any updates Mary would send him about Joanie and herself would have been so great...she did have the 'little sister' vibe amped up to 11 so as an older sibling myself could see the 'annoying' part but it's for the plot so...I wish we had a lot more of her. One of my favorite bit of McDanno fanart is Mary leaving a copy of the gay Kamasutra as a present to Steve because she's tired of him fussing about and not being with Danny already.

Had another season of Hawaii 5-0 happened, I feel like Steve would have come back to Danny not being there. Not permanently gone, but gone away for a bit.
Gone back to New Jersey to deal with something (like a childhood friend needing his help solving a case or something). Steve gets home, and poor Junior has to tell him that Danny is in NJ, which makes Steve panic because "he belongs here!"
Steve shows up in NJ, and tries to drag Danny home, only to be sucked into the case, because "I'm not leaving my friend hanging, Steven!" and Steve helps solve the case, just to be able to go home.
Once Steve and Danny are home, they're chilling on the couch with Eddie, and Danny asks him how his trip was. Steve just ignores him and snuggles in for their patented McDanno cuddle. When the gang arrive, they're not phased at all, so used to said cuddles. Lincoln maybe the only one confused a bit.
Junior and Tani would tell them that they're moving in together. Steve has a Steve conniption at his roommate leaving, until Lou points out that it means Charlie has a room at the house, which calms him down (because he loves the kid, and totally thinks that setting up a room means that Charlie will spend the night more).
When asked about Catherine, Steve'll shrug and say "I don't know, I left her on that first plane." And all is well in the world.
Eddie is just so happy his Dads are home.
Obviously, more storylines and all, but this would be the first 2 episodes.

Saw you wanted some asks and I love your thoughts so here you go! I picked #22 and #8 you can do both or your favorite or whatever😊 Picked them mainly because I thought they could be interesting but also because a lot of the questions were obvious for Steve or Danny. One of the best parts of having a 10 season show is that we learned so much about the characters and their mannerisms/ habits that it's easy to know how they would react in hypothetical situations. In mcdanno's case its usually because we've seen them together in similar situations before 😅
aw, i'm flattered you find my ramblings interesting, and I totally agree, it does seem like a lot of the answers would be obvious because we have so much data (although there are always ways to twist a typical trope)
22. takes pranks too far.
okay so this one is tricky because my first instinct is to say steve because he is a tall child who enjoys being a little shit and annoying danny because rattled danny is extra adorable. plus, he was in the navy and the pranks military boys play on each other can be brutal. i'm sure steve and his seal buddies got to some pretty crazy stuff together (which could also be how they got their nicknames). one of the funniest stories my dad told me from his compulsory military service was when he and 3 of his buddies got back at their roommate for the crime of snoring by lifting his bed with him in it and carrying it to the communal toilets, where he was discovered in the morning by the squadron commander still sleeping. and i'm sure it's tame in comparison to what steve could have gotten up to.
but the thing is danny isn't just one of the guys, steve actually wants danny to like him, and pulling on his metaphorical pigtails is one thing, but doing something that would make danny so pissed he stops talking to him is another entirely. except maybe in the beginning where he doesn't know what the limits are he could go too far, but as he learns the boundaries of their relationship i think there will be lines he won't cross.
danny is more of a sarcasm/making fun guy than a practical joke guy (salting the cake that one time was OOC enough for him that steve didn't expect it), but even he obviously feels kinda bad when steve thinks he's genuine, so i don't think either of them will deliberately hurt each other. there's just so much love between them, the gentle kind, that i don't see them pulling deliberately cruel pranks on each other.
it would be fun if they got into an all out prank war, tho. although, potentially with disastrous consequences because they are so competitive, so i guess the only way it could get too far if they are both pushing each other's limits.
8. makes the other late for work.
before they are a couple it honestly can be a number of mundane things but that's not what we are here for 😏 after they get together, well, i'm gonna answer with a graphic
Tumblr media
it's gotta be steve, who can't resist danny and danny can't resist him
Tumblr media
people get murdered in oahu almost every day, but they still got years to make up for, the dead can wait :p

For the WIP ..... oh all of them sound so good 👀👀 but how abouts McDanno Ace soulmate AU aaaaaaand Buck/Eddie leapfrog! I'm so intrigued by these descriptors :3
hiiiii. :D
Ace soulmate AU
for full disclosure, this is (in writing terms) pretty old, and it might get scrapped and rewritten for an entirely different fandom if i ever run into one for which it fits well, but it’s still hanging in there as is for now because. well, soulmate AUs mostly aren’t my cup of tea, but sometimes i think about the way they’re often executed by just kind of dropping soulmate marks into essentially the world we already have, and the vaguely horror-ish experience that could be from an asexual (or aromantic!) perspective. oh, you’re not even a latebloomer, you’re just really romantic and Waiting For The One! then it will all say click, and suddenly the whole idea of attraction will magically make sense! that kind of thing, but suddenly supercharged by the fact that there actually IS such a thing as a soulmate.
(but then there’s probably also, internally, that niggling doubt - what if meeting your soulmate doesn’t make it say click? what if it still doesn’t make sense? what if you meet your soulmate and they naturally expect things that everyone seems to expect from their soulmate but that you don’t want to give them, can’t give them, won’t be giving them - what if there’s this One Perfect Person for you, but it turns out you’re too broken to make it work? essentially i think that any universe with our current (deep lack of) societal awareness of asexuality/aromanticism But Add In Soulmarks would be. probably worse. that would probably really fuck certain people up Even More.)
so, with all of that set up, the idea here is pretty much to explore all of that, but with the twist that both parts of this soulmate couple are struggling with the same thing. so steve and danny meet in steve’s dad’s garage, like in canon (again, this is kind of old writing):
Danny enters the house completely unsuspecting. When he hears noises from the garage he shifts into high alert, but that still doesn’t prepare him for what happens next – it’s a blur, they yell at each other over their guns and suddenly something is burning in the crook of Danny’s right elbow, and for a dizzying moment he thinks he’s been shot, even though that’s happened to him before and it’s never been anything like this.
Then he realizes why a pain in that spot makes his heart beat faster, and he sees the other guy’s face twist and his jaw clench even while his aim never wavers, and Danny knows.
Everyone wants to meet their soulmate. By all rights, he should be thrilled. Mostly he feels so nauseous he might throw up, and absolutely determined not to show any of it.
Gripping his weapon tight, he stares down the barrel still pointed at him. This is ridiculous. “Put your gun down,”  he snaps. “It’s not like we’re going to shoot each other now.”
The guy that claims to be Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett just frowns deeper. “You put your gun down. How do I know my soulmate isn’t part of some gang? How do I know you didn’t kill my father?”
he figures out danny didn’t kill his dad pretty soon, of course. and then solving the case goes very quickly, they work together really well, they DO click (just not like that), danny has very conflicted feelings about it and he still hits steve for being an asshole (but even that is just a bonding moment, really, because they’re them). after the case, the governor is like, you guys should take a few days off and get to know each other, wink wink nudge nudge, so they do take those days off, both of them with a heavy heart about how this will play out, and neither of them wants to be someone who meets their soulmate only to immediately reject them, so they keep awkwardly shuffling towards what they think is supposed to happen here, and then finding ways to distract themselves for another five minutes:
“Do you want to...” Steve says, and his sentence trails off suggestively. It’s a surprise when he finishes it at all, and it’s a bigger surprise when he says, “Have a drink?”
“It’s two in the afternoon.” Danny squints at Steve’s perfect Navy man outside. “Are you a functioning alcoholic?” That’d be just his luck.
“Coffee,” Steve says, hastily. “Coffee is a drink. You like coffee, right?”
Danny trails Steve while Steve hurries into the kitchen. “If this relationship is going to work, you can’t ask me that ever again. Do I like coffee? Like that’s a question where no is a viable answer.”
Steve, working a coffee machine that thankfully looks fairly decent, doesn’t seem cowed by Danny’s bluster. The opposite – he grins. It’s sudden and amused and goddamn breathtaking, shit. “You’re such an asshole,” he says. He sounds a little bit delighted.
“Glad I amuse you,” Danny snipes back, even though he is, in fact, glad.
and then at some point they finally figure each other out, and all that heavy weight hanging over them drops away, and they can actually be glad to have found each other without any caveats. when they eventually get back to work and get the inevitable “you look like you didn’t get much sleep ;)” comments, it’s true, they really didn’t, but it’s because danny was teaching steve how to make pasta from scratch in the middle of the night.

Leapfrog
this one is just a little fluffy domestic thing! i haven’t fully decided if this is established relationship or they’re still very oblivious, but eddie is cleaning up the kitchen when buck returns from reading chris a bedtime story, and buck goes “would you still love me if i was a frog?” and understandably eddie is pretty ??? about this at first:
“Are you aware you’re not making any sense?”
“It just seems really horrible to me, having a witch turn you into a frog. Not because of, like, having to eat flies-”
“Oh no, of course not,” Eddie agrees, because apparently they’re pretending this is a serious topic.
Buck gives him a look that says he knows what Eddie is doing, and he doesn’t appreciate it. “C’mon, man, I just mean- Something that’s totally out of your control happens and suddenly none of your friends or family recognize you. You sit there, and you’re trying to tell them who you are, but you can’t make them understand. Doesn’t that scare you?”
The answer is not really, because it’s too obviously a fantasy children’s story for Eddie to be able to take it that heavily, but something still says click. It’s probably the Eddie feels like a fool switch. “It scares you, huh?”
“To death,” Buck admits. “Why would anyone even put that in a book meant to be read before sleep? What if Chris has a nightmare?”
Eddie feels a little tug on his heartstrings - the ones that tell him hey, Buck adores your kid. “He’ll be fine.”
and then it’s just. [more fluff here].

Reblogging again because I haven't been able to stop thinking about this.
I'm new to McDanno so doing this the opposite way, but...
(Also I seriously need to learn how to make gifs so I can add images for all of these cos im having trouble finding any for h50)
* both couples mistaken for the dads of someone
* trusting their partner to look after their kid if they die
* hot calendar photos, being shown on someone's phone
* one of them is the main driver, even if it's not their car
* their kid totally trusts their partner
* they help each other with family drama
* at one stage, one of them has a bum leg
* scenes of one of them fighting shirtless
* custody issues surrounding their kid
* one sleeps on the other's couch
* they hang out outside of work
* no knocking/at home at the others house
(Will add more later if I think of more or figure out how to create/add gifs)
why did I only just realize that Buddie is rebranded McDanno

Hawaii Five-0, Season 3, Episode 12, my thoughts...
Seriously? It's a frat thing? Uh, maybe it's a cultural thing but I really don't understand American's tolerance of, let alone interest in frats, initiations, etc.
But that's a separate rant...
Why do I feel like this dude still gonna end up dead or something... also, can we say alcohol poisoning?
Okay.. he found a body... he gets to live for now...
Kono is so strong to deal with Sang Min.
Wait. Danny has a young adult nephew?
I agree, Danno, he is acting like a complete idiot.
I'd like to note that Steve and Danny tend to match their outfits. In the previous episode, Steve was wearing a blue t-shirt and Danny a blue shirt.
In this one, Steve's got a light-coloured shirt on over his t-shirt to match Danny's light-coloured shirt.
Okay I already didn't like this chairman dude and now he's not even asking his staff about crying students?
Yes, call him out McDanno!
"Which is why I just never asked" - oh I hope that chairman goes down for something during this. He is terrible. And needs to be fired himself.
Why does Danny's nephew talk like some 90s punk? And remind me of a young Brendon Fraser?
Okay, but is the prof sleeping with the student, or claiming her work as his own? Cos it's hardly ever the first thing they think.
Oh Danny! Calendar photo!
Please note: Chin bursts out laughing. Steve's response is more of a 'woah/wow'. Yes, he smiles, but Steve, are you amused? Or attracted? Or both?
Steve's laughter only comes after he finds out the pic has been emailed to everyone in Danny's address book.
Danny bringing the tough love.
🤣🤣🤣
"Kelly your dads are here"
Seriously? Seriously?!
And Steve! I appreciate that your concern is with being considered old enough to be her father, not with the fact they just assumed you and Danny are together. This show.
"It's a college, it's not a virus. You cannot catch it."
They always gotta run.
Knew Kono Waa gonna head back to the room to find Sang gone.
"Why don't you just admit it, you don't like flying with me?"
"Okay, I don't like flying with you. Have a safe flight."
Danny apologising to his nephew ❤️
But also... kinda suck at the middle bit... the ending was good, though.
Love me some Steve in the jungle.
And Chin. Chin also rocks the jungle hunting look.
Yes! Knew I didn't like Roth!
Of course Roth is on the island with them.
Action time!
I like that they humanise Sang, and give him depth. But also, dude was human trafficking and I'm not sure I'll ever get over that.
Alternate ending...
Bram... yeah, I'd believe that, too.
The cheating kid... bit harder to believe...
I'm glad they went with the ending they did.
