The child shrugged, her shoulders lifting with a casualness that didn’t quite reach her eyes. Speaking still felt strange, her voice felt thin, hollow, after months of silence shared with the ender. Her fingers twitched at her sides, aching to sign, to fall back into the comfortable quiet language they’d built together.

“And the cryptid is nice,” she said softly, her lips curving into a faint smile. “Brings me plants, even made me a spot to sleep. Now I don’t have to go to my aunt’s… or home.” Her voice stayed light, almost airy, but at the edges, just barely, there was a tremor, a note of something heavy and sharp. Sadness, quiet and stubborn, pressed against the spaces between her words.

Just as Kaleido is speaking, a strange, grumbly-sounding bark rings out through the hallways, and a strange-looking wolf pops out from round a corner.

"Ah, speak of...did you know I was talking about you, buddy?" The wolf pants happily in response.

"Yeah, this is Mulch. I saved him from a pack of Zombies. As you can see, he was pretty beat up from the whole thing...as such, he requires more care than your average Wolf...I have to look after all those exposed parts of his body, but he's a great companion. Makes things a little less lonely around here."

Mulch jumps up at Kaleido expectantly, but she sighs and gently shoos him away.

"I know you're hungry, baby. Just one more thing I've got to do, and I'll get you some dinner, alright?" she watches him sigh and trot down the stony hallway, and then she turns and walks in the opposite direction.

"On weekends though I'm obligated by my household and required by the city I was born in to participate in events held in Veiled City like parades to "show off" the family line, it's pretty boring and self-entitled if you ask me. I do sneak off and spend majority of my time just hanging with my friends however!"
