We know Curtain is all about appearance, and that extended to SQ, he made his son appear the way he wanted him too. I think SQ would have naturally curly hair, but Curtain thinks it looks unruly it makes him look too much like he could be related to his brother so he makes SQ straighten his hair. He also controls basically everything about how he dresses. So, post series, SQ stops straightening his hair, and he starts dressing in a way he knows his dad would hate. Which is really just... how he wants to dress. But of course this isn't an immediate change. Once Curtain is arrested the affects of his abuse don't magically disappear. It's not an overnight change. It takes him a while to really start breaking out of that cycle. At first he keeps straightening his hair. He's around new people now, and he doesn't want to mess that up, so he still traps himself in the image of what his father expected of him. And when he gets new clothes he goes over the grocery list of criticisms his dad would have on each thing. He doesn't even realize he's doing it until he looks in the mirror one morning and sees that he looks exactly how he did on the island. And that's pretty hard on him. The realization that even though his dad was gone, his culmination of actions and his manipulation still lingered. At first it's that feeling of 'I'm never going to stop feeling like this. This is just who I am.' But, thankfully, he has a support system now. He has parental figures who genuinely care for him. So when comes down to breakfast that morning, looking like he had been crying for quite some time, Mr. Benedict asks in that voice (you know the one) if he's okay. And he just,, completely melts down. Mr. Benedict quietly leads him aside to his office while the kids watch in confusion and concern. and SQ tells him everything. About how his father micromanaged every little thing, and about how he can't shake it even though he wants to. So, Mr. Benedict gives him a talk, explaining that obviously he isn't going to be better overnight (and no one expects him to) and that they'll help him as much as they need. And they do. When they go out for winter clothes, Number Two gently directs him towards things he might like. And when SQ stops straightening his haid, Rhonda helps him clip it back so that it doesn't keep falling in his face. It's a start, but with support, he starts breaking out of the pattern his father put him on.

MBS: there are three guys, i think they are triplets? they do things and it's all really weird. at least one of them has a really long beard. there are lots of shots of them staring straight at the camera. or maybe its just one but its posted all the time. presumably theres a society but idk about that. all the side characters are named shit like The Dreamlike Plateholder. i have no idea what the plot is and at this point im too afraid to ask
