9 and 17!! 🤗
heyyyy 🥰
9. How do you find new fic to read?
Ao3's search function is my best friend. if i'm venturing into a new fandom or ship i normally have an idea of what i want to read in terms or tropes/dynamic/aus so i'll do really specific searches. After that i go more general, click on anything mildly intetesting and sometimes lower my standards. I don't tend to pay attention recs unless someone is recommending something to me personally and they know what i like to read cos i have been disappointed too many times.
17. What highly specific AU do you want to read or write even though you might be the only person to appreciate it?
It's not that specific but at the moment i'd love some more arranged marriage aus. For literally any fandom i read fics from. Actually, also ballet aus with a basic idea of how dance companies work, and how difficult professional dance is, but mostly i'd like to see people use ballets that aren't swan lake/ sleeping beauty/ nutcracker/ giselle because i promise there are more interesting ones out there. ALSO reincarnation aus that involve wow that centuries old painting looks a lot like me, cause that's fun, creepy, and speaking from experience weird as fuck.
thanks for the ask :)
fic writer asks
#answered#marnz#fic writer asks#there was this au where the ex-dancer mc's fave ballet was giselle but i know he'd love mayerling more#also he'd be such an ashton dancer#i cannot overstate my love for ao3's search function#in general i tend not to read ballet or dance aus cos i'm specific and it's rarely done well (but i'm an ex-dancer so...)#i'll shut up and go to bed now

[au] another sketch for my au!!!
even though i don’t celebrate christmas, i might do a nutcracker drawing for them since it’s a dance au LOL. i wanna do a series of drawing them in ballet roles besides the ones i’ve written (giselle), like in swan lake, Coppélia, or mayerling.

Hellcheer AU
Chrissy is miss perfect classic ballerina in the New York City Ballet Academy. She’s paired up with Eddie, a sexy, rebellious dancer who loves tricks and jumps and acrobatics, for the spring industry showcase.
Madame Joyce assigns them to do the Bedroom Pas De Deuxs from “Mayerling” or “Manon” and things get steamy.
Pretty much Hellcheer mixed with Center Stage.

Reblogging this with updates for what I think I'll actually do hahshfhd. If a fic idea is not mentioned here, assume that it's been scrapped :'D
Elisabeth (in order of importance)
- Todolf modern ballet au: still on the roster, 9 chapters, I've written most of the first. I feel really hopeful and excited about the idea but I'm REALLY afraid that only 2 people will read it, because it's an AU and the todolf relationship is super metaphorical
- Todcheni longfic: still going to do this. Even more afraid that only 2 people will read it. Has been outlined with 7 chapters (for now) - and I consider that a longfic because w fics like this, I split chapters on theme more so than turns of events -> will be longer (it's a backstory/life story fic)
- A Rudolf (Elisabeth) x Meissner (Affaire Mayerling) fic. Still going to do this because it's like 3/5ths written. One-shot
- A Tod x FJ fic - might still do this someday, a one-shot
- "Jesper!Rudolf and Máté!Tod... being themselves..." - idk maybe, not a priority since I'm not feeling explicit fic rn but it's an okay idea, just not feeling that passionate about it XD One-shot.
Tanz der Vampire
- I have an angsty post-tdv fic idea that I didn't have when I made this post, but I'm afraid nobody will read it because it's kinda dreary and intentionally subverts like all of the common fandom tropes that ppl use and enjoy when writing tdv fic XD but I like the idea and it might turn out okay if I write it. 7 chapters.
- "I'd love to write a longer post-tdv Sarah/Alfred fic about them exploring the world and such because all the amazing ones on ao3 are UNFINISHED. But it'd require a lot of planning that I haven't done yet" - I'd still love this, but if anyone else writes a good one and FINISHES IT i will be just as content XD I don't have any amazing ideas
Rebecca
- "Ich x Rebecca's ghost. I jokingly said "if I ever wrote a Rebecca fic it would be..." but now the idea won't leave my brain." - could still be interesting to do, also a one-shot so would be easier than some other stuff. I don't have a solid grasp on characterisation for either though so I would have to Think About It. Would be a one-shot
- Since making this list, I've come up with an explicit danvich oneshot idea (because i saw marle danny live in vienna hahdhahsdfjs) that I might write someday idk
So, that's one 9-chapter fic, two 7-chapter fics & five one-shots of varying lengths. I feel bad for scrapping so many of my old ideas but realistically, I think they just won't end up written (because I'm not feeling it, or I lost my train of thought). Sometimes you need to clean out your brain to make room for new stuff xD
Oh also missing from this list is my original fiction book that I fully assume will win the tony award for best original traditionally published novel (They will create a category like that for me) (i'm broadcasting my delusions of grandeur because i'm scared to start writing it in case it turns out bad, because it's a story I'd love to tell people and that I feel like needs to be told, but I'm afraid it's unmarketable and of coming up short in terms of skill xD I haven't attempted longform original fiction for YEARS because I got so discouraged and afraid, but rn the story wants to exist so badly that [cabaret emcee voice] tonight i might finally lose the battle)
Fics I want to write & have in some cases already promised various people to write, but didn't manage to because of my thesis (which is now finished, btw >:D). I know I don't often talk about my fics in specific terms on here (and I'm a bit afraid of boring people with them) so I'm putting everything under the cut for convenient scrolling past.
Elisabeth
- Todolf modern ballet au. This one is more self-indulgent than anything I've had requested, but I love it a lot and am excited to write it. Multichapter fic w worldbuilding and a clear plot/arc. ;)
- Mirrorverse Todolf one-shot, smutty. And evil.
- A Rudolf (Elisabeth) x Meissner (Affaire Mayerling) fic. "Canon-compliant" with excessive amounts of historical detail drawn from the real-life counterparts' lives... and smut.
- Todolf modern au where Rudolf is a lawyer in his dad's sinking ship firm. I wrote a one-shot of this, it was my first Elisabeth fic, and might write more because I have nice ideas. Vignettes with an overarching symbolic narrative. Cuddles.
- A Tod x FJ fic inspired by the improvements I constantly suggest productions make to Nur kein genieren
- LUCHENI X TOD LONG(ISH)FIC. Backstory-focused, Lucheni-centric. Again with excessive historical context. >:DDDDD
- Modern au todolfcheni (yes) where they are roommates fjkdkfkf. Mostly a joke idea... unless...
- Jesper!Rudolf and Máté!Tod... being themselves...
- An Elisabeth Brussels fic (mortdolphe slowburn). Might be a long way off because it'd be emotionally rough, worldbuilding-heavy and time-consuming to write.
- Misc other tod/rudolf ideas
Tanz der Vampire
- Sarah/Alfred post tdv fic, smutty
- ... Alfred/Raoul fic accompaniment to a Sarah/Christine fic my friend wrote, risqué if not outright smutty
- I'd love to write a longer post-tdv Sarah/Alfred fic about them exploring the world and such because all the amazing ones on ao3 are UNFINISHED. But it'd require a lot of planning that I haven't done yet
Rebecca
- Ich x Rebecca's ghost. I jokingly said "if I ever wrote a Rebecca fic it would be..." but now the idea won't leave my brain.
If I've promised other fics to anyone reading, please remind me ajfkdkjfdk. Rn the ones taking highest priority (... after my grad school admissions essay) are the ballet au for self-indulgent reasons, the Meissner fic and Mirrorverse. And the Lucheni fic is tickling my brain too.
#writing#update#kinda#like omg if i'm so worried about if my fanfics will be popular then i'm not strong enough for original fiction XDDD#but then again its a valuable lesson#the kinds of fanfic that are THE MOST popular are not smth i feel fulfilled writing (hell even my own most popular fanfics are. not as good#as some of my less popular ones xD)#so ugh#fanfiction#fanfic

A compilation of the Royal Ballet’s (the UK one) videos on their Mayerling Production(s):
No, I don’t have these in chronological order. They did a production 9 years ago, one 4 years ago, and have an upcoming one. These come from all of those.
A look inside the rehearsal process for The Royal Ballet's Mayerling
Mayerling – Bedroom pas de deux (Sarah Lamb, Steven McRae; The Royal Ballet)
Why The Royal Ballet love performing Mayerling
Mayerling cinema trailer 2022 (The Royal Ballet)
Mayerling – Tavern scene (The Royal Ballet) - Mizzi appearance!
Insights: The Royal Ballet in Rehearsal - Mayerling
The Royal Ballet rehearse Mayerling
Mayerling Masterclass - The Royal Ballet
Edward Watson preparing for Mayerling (The Royal Ballet)
The art of the Pas de deux - Mayerling
Two add-ons:
Technically about Winter’s Tale, but this is the dancer who played Rudolf quite a bit and well ... I certainly think it is relevant. Edward Watson: dancing ballet's darkest roles (The Royal Ballet) Also he is the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland (and is absolutely amazing in that role - see Alice's Adventures in Wonderland – Mad Hatter's Tea Party (The Royal Ballet) - All hail the pink velvet jacket) and I’m very sad he retired.
Full ballet (Stanislavsky Ballet - Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre): Sergei Polunin /Anna Ol // MAYERLING (Complete Ballet Performance) November 18, 2014 There is also a nearly complete recording from the same theatre with the same Rudolf from 2015.
#mayerling#ballet#fitzrove this is for you if you like it#If you don't then my brother stole my computer#and made this cause he is weird#those are my stories and I'm sticking to them#Or I lost my mind after a long day testing lasers#such is life#they all failed#My guess from the fact that you mentioned a ballet au is that you probably already have all these#But here they are in one place :)

Writers of ballet AUs: I challenge you to have your characters rehearse Rudolf and Mary Veretseva’s first pas de deux. Warning: you will not want to do this for anything teen-rated or below, holy shit. Further warning: if both are women or both are men, the stronger of the two will need to be *very* strong and the lighter really quite light; there are some serious lifts.
(But would I enjoy reading m/m rehearsal bits of this in a ballet au of any of my m/m ships? Oh my would I. <3 )

Mathieu Ganio
Mayerling
photo: Ann Ray

i saw your post about the ballet au and figured i’d hop on in the ask box to enable <33 (bc i am very much ✨intrigued✨ entirely haha!!)
So glad someone asked! Behold, 1300 words of utter nonsense - featuring ballet himbo Talbert , fresh from a stint on An American in Paris because I can, a really lovely interview by @shoshiwrites‘s Jo Brandt, and some very 👀 commentary from Tab’s instagram followers, who totally know something’s up between Winters and Warren:
He’d come back here with every intention of tossing his bag on the couch and filling his water bottle - but the problem was that the couch was already occupied. "Well, well, well,” Dick said, trying to sound angry even though he was the furthest thing from it. “Look who it is. Fresh from his European tour. Still managing to convince people you can sing and pass for a GI, Tab?"
"And you're still managing to be a Disney Prince," Floyd Talbert spat back, standing up quickly so the two of them could watch each other for a bare moment before they broke and Floyd pulled Dick in for a big hug. “Buddy.”
“I'm glad you’re home,” Dick said, meaning every word.
"Glad to be home,” Tab admitted, sitting back down on the couch with an undignified flop. “Musical theatre is fun, but I want to get back to my roots, you know? Speaking of which - reviews on Mayerling are fantastic,” Floyd said with a grin. “I watched some clips on the plane. Who knew you could do hot?" He grinned at Dick’s slight unease. "So, where's the girl you get to seduce every night? I want to meet her, she's out here making you look like a sex god." He flipped open the magazine he’d been reading to the photospread, an impossibly nice art shot of Dick doing something wildly athletic. "Case in point: Hello, Mr. January."
Dick felt himself blush a little. "Will you stop? Your blogger entourage is rotting your brain."
"Have to give the fans what they want, Dick,” Tab said, leaning back on the couch. “I am what the internet calls 'a simple himbo' and I'm having a moment. Speaking of which, we need a picture of the two of us so we can break Instagram." He turned around on the couch so he could hold up his phone. “Smile!”
"Please don't put something stupid in the caption," Dick begged, somewhat toothlessly, knowing that Tab was going to do...whatever Tab was going to do.
Tab composed for a moment and read aloud. “Hanging out with man/myth/legend Winters in between #Mayerling shows. Plans to invade Europe developing nicely. #2021tour #companydance #himbosanonymous”
Dick sighed and made a vague gesture before going to fill his water bottle, listening while Tab’s phone made a series of noises indicating the world thought well of the photo, and came back to his friend paging happily through his comments. “Hey, you didn’t answer my question. The internet needs to know more about the situation with your new principal, while I’m here. They want the deets. Although I really want to steer them towards this article, which is delightful, by the way. You should have Jo Brandt write copy for everything.”
“I haven’t read it,” Dick admitted, digging in his bag for his shoes.
Tab made a noise of disgust. “Dick!”
“I have to rehearse, Tab.”
“Fine, then I’ll read it to you while you warm up,” Tab said, unstoppable. “I might skip a bit, you know, for reasons.”
He cleared his throat and settled into a seat against the wall. "After the events of last year, it's clear that the Company's board and creative team are eager to turn over a new leaf - and what a leaf it is. Heading in a new direction with a blazingly hot ballet that will make converts of even the most lackluster of classical dance fans, they've also enlisted the talents of a new principal whose roots in the dance world run deep. A graduate of the Royal Ballet School, with stints in Paris, Vienna, and San Francisco, Joan Warren’s dance credentials are impeccable - a fact that should be shared before we mention that her uncle is also on the board of this prestigious institution. But there was little favoritism in her selection - a field of twenty candidates were all in the running for Eileen Hammond’s position.
Was it intimidating, I ask, coming on to such a team at such a time? Hammond's pointe shoes were considerable ones to fill, and Winters - he smiles as I suggest this - has been known to be a formidable partner. "You know, I did meet her, after we'd been in rehearsals for a while, and we got on pretty well. She's been such a part of the company and the reputation that's been built here. But everyone's been very welcoming, and kind."
Winters is quick to remind her that she also didn't come in acting like she owned the place. "She came in for rehearsal like she was another dancer for warmups, and and the dance mistress comes in - oh, Miss Warren, you don't have to practice in here. 'It's fine, I like warming up with the company.'' Winters smiles as he tells this story. "She's going to laugh at me but she goes out of her way to make other people look good. Particularly me."
It's true - the twenty-eight year old dancer has never looked better than he does playing Crown Prince Rudolf. A man we've gotten used to seeing as the prince of fairy tales fairly sizzles in this role, which is a deal more sensual than his usual fare, and a large part of that, he says, is having a partner who sells that appeal to the audience. Warren's Vesera is magnetic, and one can see a youthful energy in her dance sequences with the company that seem at odds with the poised, collected young woman in the room now.
When I ask about playing a sixteen year old girl in an epic love story, Warren's eyes light up a little. "It's...you know, it's a fun challenge, and there's so much there to work with. Rudolf is older, and has been beaten down a lot, right, he's in this loveless marriage and his mother is very demanding and here's this young woman who is...totally outside of that. When we're teenagers we think we can do anything, right? And he finds that..." she looks over to Winters, who is smiling and nodding in agreement, "Intoxicating. And she...she loves being in this position of power. She plays with him. But I don't think she really understands, fully, what it is she's playing with, how deeply troubled he is. For her it's just a game, and it makes it all the more tragic." Has she ever been in love like that, she chuckles a little and looks at her hands. "I think we've all been a little stupid, but fortunately, no." And Winters? He snorts and shakes his head.
Do they see any of themselves in the characters they're dancing? "His drive, I think, to do better, be better," Winters admits. "He's very hard on himself, and I recognize that." And Warren? "I hope I have a little of her joy," she says, with a smile that suggests there's no trouble finding any of that in her life. "I'm not sure I want to be manipulative or naive." Her co star is quick to assure her that she's neither of those things. Their natural partnership here is just as palpable as when they are dancing - one will start a sentence and the other will finish, and they both constantly watch each other, waiting to see if the other needs help or support. It's truly lovely to be in the room with them.
After having watched them be wildly in love on stage, the energy here is much softer but no less connected - though they've only been together a few months, one gets the sense of a deep sense of shared understanding between the two dancers that will hopefully continue delighting audiences for many seasons to come.
As for what’s next, one needs only to look to the season’s list - the Company’s third show this season will again have them dancing opposite for ‘Sleeping Beauty’ - and we can only assume tickets will sell fast, if the success of Mayerling has been any indication. ”
Tab put down the magazine and gave Dick a long, long look as he paused and met Tab’s eye in the mirror behind the barre. “It’s a very nice article,” Dick allowed. Tab huffed and rolled his eyes.
“Where’s Lew? Has he read this?”
“Probably,” Dick allowed, going back to his stretches. Tab was already back on his phone, taking yet another photo of the magazine spread.

#mayerling #kennethmacmillan #operadeparis #paulmarque #saison20222023 #ipreview via @preview.app (à Opera De Paris Garnier) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl9SCwXsg6b/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
