i'm doing a school project about worms, and was wondering if there is anything about worm cells that is different from the average animal cell, because i can't seem to find anything online. can you provide a diagram if so? thanks!
Hi "worm" is a super super broad term. You'd have to be more specific with a scientific name! Feel free to comment on this with more info if you have it and tag me so I see it :)

As the sun sets in the western seas, Elwing hears Eärendil singing in Quenya by the shore.
(tengwar is the last two lines of Galadriel’s lament, the bit that means: farewell! maybe thou shalt find valimar; maybe even thou shalt find it. farewell!)

Galadriel's Lament (Clamavi De Profundis version)

English Translation Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees! The years have passed like swift draughts of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda wherein the stars tremble in the song of her voice, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the Stars, from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds, and all paths are drowned deep in shadow; and out of a grey country darkness lies on the foaming waves between us, and mist covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever. Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!
Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar. Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!

‘In this phial is caught the light of Eärendil's star’
`And you, Ring-bearer,' she said, turning to Frodo. `I come to you last who are not last in my thoughts. For you I have prepared this.' She held up a small crystal phial: it glittered as she moved it, and rays of white light sprang from her hand. 'In this phial,' she said, `is caught the light of Eärendil's star, set amid the waters of my fountain. It will shine still brighter when night is about you. May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out. Remember Galadriel and her Mirror! '
Frodo took the phial, and for a moment as it shone between them, he saw her again standing like a queen, great and beautiful, but no longer terrible. He bowed, but found no words to say.
Now the Lady arose, and Celeborn led them back to the hythe. A yellow noon lay on the green land of the Tongue, and the water glittered with silver. All at last was made ready. The Company took their places in the boats as before. Crying farewell, the Elves of Lórien with long grey poles thrust them out into the flowing stream, and the rippling waters bore them slowly away. The travellers sat still without moving or speaking. On the green bank near to the very point of the Tongue the Lady Galadriel stood alone and silent. As they passed her they turned and their eyes watched her slowly floating away from them. For so it seemed to them: Lórien was slipping backward, like a bright ship masted with enchanted trees, sailing on to forgotten shores, while they sat helpless upon the margin of the grey and leafless world.
Even as they gazed, the Silverlode passed out into the currents of the Great River, and their boats turned and began to speed southwards. Soon the white form of the Lady was small and distant. She shone like a window of glass upon a far hill in the westering sun, or as a remote lake seen from a mountain: a crystal fallen in the lap of the land. Then it seemed to Frodo that she lifted her arms in a final farewell, and far but piercing-clear on the following wind came the sound of her voice singing. But now she sang in the ancient tongue of the Elves beyond the Sea, and he did not understand the words: fair was the music, but it did not comfort him.
Yet as is the way of Elvish words, they remained graven in his memory, and long afterwards he interpreted them, as well as he could: the language was that of Elven-song and spoke of things little known on Middle-earth.
Ai! laurië lantar lassi súrinen, yéni únótimë ve rámar aldaron! Yéni ve lintë yuldar avánier mi oromardi lisse-miruvóreva Andúnë pella, Vardo tellumar nu luini yassen tintilar i eleni ómaryo airetári-lírinen. Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva? Sí vanwa ná, Rómello vanwa, Valimar! Namárië! Nai hiruvalyë Valimar. Nai elyë hiruva. Namárië!
`Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees! The long years have passed like swift draughts of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda wherein the stars tremble in the song of her voice, holy and queenly. Farewell! ' Varda is the name of that Lady whom the Elves in these lands of exile name Elbereth.
Suddenly the River swept round a bend, and the banks rose upon either side, and the light of Lórien was hidden. To that fair land Frodo never came again.
The gifts for:
Boromir, Legolas, Merry, Pippin, Sam: ‘I have brought in my ship gifts’
Aragorn: 'Now it is time to drink the cup of farewell.'
Gimli: `And what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Elves?'
JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, Farewell to Lórien

Idea - Galadriel's Namarie song in Fellowship foreshadowed Frodo's (and eventually Sam's, but mostly Frodo's) choice to actually go to Valimar.
"But now [Galadriel] sang in the ancient tongue of the Elves beyond the Sea, and [Frodo] did not understand the words: fair was the music, but it did not comfort him. Yet as is the way of Elvish words, they remained graven in his memory, and long afterwards he interpreted them, as well as he could: the language was that of Elven-song and spoke of things little known on Middle-earth" (Farewell to Lorien).
Then the song, in (presumably) Quenya, then the translation:
"Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar! Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar. Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!" (emphasis mine)
Then, not two sentences later: "To that fair land Frodo never came again."
Yes, the Namarie is largely about Galadriel's separation from Valimar and eventual return, but she's singing it to the Fellowship and the song is interpreted through Frodo's POV. I think it's not too much of a stretch to say that it foreshadows Frodo's pain and his voyage to Valimar.

Poems and Tales of Middle-Earth
Lady Galadriel's farewell song:
"Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind,
long years numberless as the wings of trees!
The years have passed like swift draughts
of the sweet mead in lofty halls
beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda,
wherein the stars tremble in the song
of her voice, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the Stars,
From Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds,
and all paths are drowned deep in shadow;
and out of a grey country darkness lies
on the foaming waves between us, and mist
covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever.
Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!
Farewell! Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar.
Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Galadriel’s Lothlorien
'By strange paths has this Company been led, and so far to evil fortune. [...] And now we must enter the Golden Wood, you say. But of that perilous land we have heard in Gondor, and it is said that few come out who once got in; and of that few, none have escaped unscathed.' (Boromir)
'Say not unscathed, but if you say unchanged, then maybe you will speak the truth,' said Aragorn. 'But lore wanes in Gondor, Boromir, if in the city of those who once were wise they now speak evil of Lothlórien. [...]
'Then lead on!' said Boromir. "But it is perilous.'
'Perilous indeed,' said Aragorn, 'fair and perilous; but only evil need fear it, or those who bring some evil with them.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Legolas told them tales of Lothlórien that the Elves of Mirkwood still kept in their hearts, of sunlight and starlight upon the meadows by the Great River before the world was grey. [...]
The voice of Legolas faltered, and the song ceased. 'I cannot sing any more,' he said. 'That is but a part, for I have forgotten much. It is long and sad, for it tells how sorrow came upon Lothlórien, Lórien of the Blossom, when the Dwarves awakened evil in the mountains.'
'But the Dwarves did not make the evil,' said Gimli.
'I said not so; yet evil came,' answered Legolas sadly."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Frodo saw the valley of the Silverlode lying like a sea of fallow gold tossing gently in the breeze. [...] It seemed to him that he would never hear again a running water so beautiful, for ever blending its innumerable notes in an endless changeful music."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.
Some there are among us who sing that the Shadow will draw back, and peace shall come again. Yet I do not believe that the world about us will ever again be as it was of old, or the light of the Sun as it was aforetime. For the Elves, I fear, it will prove at best a truce, in which they may pass unhindered and leave the Middle-Earth for ever. Alas for Lothlórien that I love!' (Haldir)
THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING dir. Peter Jackson | 2001

Mood. But also maybe you could record yourself playing it! Then you can be lazy and listen to it later
Hey Silm fandom, is it a universal feeling when you look at your seven notebooks of fanfiction, three sketchbooks of fanart, and hours of self written music and realize that you care way too much about some mass murderers than is probably sane
#or keep on projecting on songs that are definitely not about the Silmarillion like I do#alternatively: blind guardian

"Wonder" - Lyrics and Dialogue as performed in the LotR Musical
In the West End version of The Lord of the Rings, “Wonder” is situated right before the Final Battle at the Black Gate as Frodo and Sam continue their journey to Mount Doom and the Army of Allies prepares for war (see photo above).
The Original London Cast Recording is missing some verses contained in the stage version, adding others stemming from Toronto instead. The lyrics were a little different in Toronto, as was the context - “Wonder” was part of the Lothlórien sequence. Click “keep reading” for the lyrics; for the general context of the song, see here.
In case this looks familiar to you, yes, I've posted this before. However, I deleted my side blog and with it the "keep reading" part.
Toronto
After his conversation with GALADRIEL, FRODO sleeps, as do the rest of the Fellowship, while GALADRIEL sings.
GALADRIEL:
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves there grew.
Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in them blew
Lothlórien
In light I wove a perfect land of timeless joy
A dream of home no mortal hand would dare destroy
Lothlórien
Beyond the Sun, beyond the Moon
Wonder…
Wonder…
Here forever, never depart
Glorious dream, child of my heart.
Grow forever, mystical power.
Garden of hope, delicate flower
The golden leaves will fade and fall from branching years
Though sweet the song yet sweeter still will be the tears
The night must come, the shadows grow, the dark descend
And all we love and all we know must reach an end
Lothlórien, Lothlórien
For tides will ebb and tides will flow.
Wonder…
Wonder…
Stay forever, echo of light
Memory rare, shaded from sight.
Live forever, held like a breath,
Deep at the core, blossom in death.
The Fellowship pass the night in Lothlórien. GALADRIEL and other ELVES present them with Elven cloaks and gifts. GALADRIEL places a small box beside SAM. The ELVES start to sing.
GALADRIEL: For you, Samwise Gamgee, earth from my orchard. If you keep it and see your home again, then perhaps it will reward you. Meriadoc Brandybuck, almië. Almië, Legolas.
(Translation (Q): almië = blessings)
GIMLI wakes and sits up, startled by the Elves' presence.
GALADRIEL: Have no fear, Gimli son of Glóin. What Elven gift will a Dwarf accept?
GIMLI: Nothing. Unless, perhaps… a single strand of your hair, which surpasses the gold of the earth as the stars surpass the gems of the mines.
GALADRIEL: And what would you do with such a gift?
GIMLI: I will treasure it, as a pledge of goodwill between Dwarves and Elves until the end of days.
GALADRIEL takes a strand of hair from her head and gives it to him.
GALADRIEL (passing around the rest): Peregrin Took, almië. (to ARAGORN) Your time is close, Elessar. Have faith. (to BOROMIR) Boromir, almië.
ELVES:
Laurië ai lantar a lassi súrinen,
únótimë yéni ve rámar aldaron!
A vanwa ná.
Sí man i yulma nin enquantuva, enquantuva?
Vanwa ná. Namárië.
Nai hiruvalyë Valimar.
(Translation (Q): Oh, like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees! Oh, it is lost. Who now shall refill the cup for me, shall refill it? It is lost. Farewell. Maybe thou shalt find Valimar.)
GALADRIEL: May you wake refreshed, Elf-friends. Many paths lie before you. Truth and the right choice will not be clear. May the stars shine on the end of your road!
The Fellowship wake. They gather their gifts and the cloaks, and get to their feet, refreshed. The Fellowship leave Lothlórien.
GALADRIEL:
Wonder…
Wonder…
Wonder…
Wonder…
ELVES:
Day may end, eyes may close
And everything we know may fade and fail.
Senses glaze, breathing slows, mind flies free.
Surrender and prevail!
GALADRIEL & ELVES:
Night will pass, dawn will come
New voices rise in other song.
Turning tides surge and swell
Bearing forth new wonder to the world.
GALADRIEL:
Shine forever, beacon of light.
Blaze in the air vanquishing night.
Sing forever proud and strong
Anthem of life, conquering song.
Though tides of fate onward run
The song of hope once begun
Will evermore remain.
West End
(The Watermill Theatre's "Wonder" is 90% identical; changes marked in purple.)
As FRODO and SAM are getting ready for their journey into Mordor, GALADRIEL enters.
GALADRIEL:
I sang of leaves, of leaves of gold, and leaves there grew
Of wind I sang, a wind there came and in them blew
Lothlórien...
In light I wove a secret land of timeless joy
My perfect child no mortal hand could dare destroy
Lothlórien...
Beyond the sun, beyond the moon
Wonder...
Wonder...
Shine forever, beacon of light.
Blaze in the air vanquishing night.
Live forever, held like a breath,
Deep at the core, blossom in death.
My golden leaves will fade and fall through branching years
Though sweet the song yet sweeter still shall be the tears
The night must come, the shadows grow, the dark descend
And all we love and all we know must reach an end
Lothlórien.
The remaining members of the Fellowhip save ARAGORN gather before the battle.
Though worlds will die and worlds will grow.
Out of death, life
Out of night, day,
Glory/beauty from sorrow.
Out of grief, joy,
Out of storm, come,
Strength for tomorrow! (x2)
【Far beyond feeling,
Destruction of pain.
Come, breath of healing,
A new life will reign!】 excluded
LEGOLAS: Do you feel the tenseness, Gimli? It takes my breath.
GIMLI: May Galadriel help us.
LEGOLAS: If we live to see another dawn, I will take you to see the wonders of the Northern Forests.
GIMLI: And I will show you glories that lie deep beneath the earth. Almië, Legolas.
LEGOLAS: Almië, Elf-friend.
(Translation (Q): almië = blessings)
ARAGORN enters with the ARMY OF ALLIES.
ARAGORN:
Day may end, eyes may close,
Everything we know may fade and fail.
ARAGORN & THE ARMY OF ALLIES:
Live or die, stand as one
For they who stand together may prevail.
The STEWARD, GANDALF, MERRY, PIPPIN, LEGOLAS and GIMLI join ARAGORN. They kneel while GALADRIEL continues to weave spells of protection.
GALADRIEL & THE ARMY OF ALLIES:
Shine forever, beacon of light.
Blaze in the air vanquishing night.
Sing forever, proud and strong,
Anthem of life, conquering song.
Shine forever!
ARAGORN challenges SAURON. SAURON's Eye is upon them all.
ARAGORN: Sauron! Do you know me yet? I am the heir of the Great King who once cast you down. His blood is in my veins and his blade in my hand. I am coming to complete the work he began: your destruction!
GANDALF: Stand, Men of the West! This is the hour of Doom!
GALADRIEL:
Wonder...
Wonder...
GALADRIEL & THE ARMY OF ALLIES:
Wonder!
The Final Battle commences.

So! That elvish library huh? With all those books?
Well, seeing as the books are in Sindarin and I am a huge lotr nerd I decided to translate them
Translations under the cut because this is gonna be a long one folks
The first book I translated was the one with the spells and such, because that was a good simple starting place.
Of the three pages we saw, the first two have two spells each and the third has one spell
The two spells on the first page refer to fire (naur): "Fire be for saving of us!" and "Fire against the wolf-horde!"
Now, we could read into this. But I'm pretty sure that these are both from the one scene in the Hobbit where they throw flaming pinecones at giant wolves. Plus, all the other phrases and stories and such are from lotr and related texts.
Onto the second page:
These two phrases are from the Doors of Durin scene in the Fellowship of the ring: "Elvish gate, open now for us!" and "Doorway of the Dwarf-folk listen to the word of my tongue!"
And the third page, with its singular spell:
This is the incantation Arwen uses to fend off the ringwraiths outside of Rivendell in the Fellowship movie: "Waters of the Misty Mountains, listen to the great word, flow waters of Loudwater, against the Ringwraiths."
Ok! On to the other books, which have much longer texts!
This first one is a Sindarin translation of Galadriel's Lament, which she sings in Quenya (another elvish dialect) when the fellowship leaves Lothlorien:
"Ah! like gold fall the leaves in the wind, long years numberless as the wings of trees! The long years have passed like swift draughts of the sweet mead in lofty halls beyond the West, beneath the blue vaults of Varda wherein the stars tremble in the voice of her song, holy and queenly.
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
For now the Kindler, Varda, the Queen of the stars, from Mount Everwhite has uplifted her hands like clouds and all paths are drowned deep in shadow; and out of a grey country darkness lies on the foaming waves between us, and mist covers the jewels of Calacirya for ever. Now lost, lost to those of the East is Valimar! Farewell! Maybe thou shalt find Valimar! Maybe even thou shalt find it! Farewell!"
The last section isn't shown in the video, but I assume that it's the text on the second page of the book.
And finally! The last Sindarin book we see in the library:
This last text is A Elbereth Gilthoniel, which is Sindarin song in praise of Varda (who's mentioned in Galadirel's Lament). The second page seems to be the second bit of the first page just copied and pasted, but here's the translation:
"O Elbereth who lit the stars, from glittering crystal slanting falls with light like jewels from heaven on high the glory of the starry host to lands remote I have looked afar from tree-tangled middle-lands and now to thee, Fanuilos, bright spirit clothed in ever-white, I will sing here beyond the Sea, beyond the wide and sundering Sea"
So yeah. Have some translations
Seeing as I am not fluent in Sindarin, I used Parf Edhellen for a lot of this. It's a pretty good elvish dictionary, definitely recommend
Also just, lore note: does the fact that all of these translations are not only in Sindarin but also come from the Lord of the Rings make lotr canon to Empires, at least partially? Like on top of the fact that Sausage has used Sindarin in relation to Xornoth before and the fact that Scott just straight-up named his empire Rivendell?
also hhhhhh this took me like an hour and a half and i lost all my work halfway through. the lengths that i go to for this series smh /lh
#empires smp#empires smp spoilers#smajor1995#geminitay#katherine elizabeth#like seriously though y'all please don't let this flop#i had to redo almost all of it and i may have cried a little

A Dissection of “The Battle of Sauron and Finrod Felagund” by Clamavi de Profundis. I thought this would be fun, and I’ve been planning on doing this ever since I discovered what it meant. It’s not to be taken too seriously. I just wanted to share my thoughts. This is the song, which is the same as the poem but with a few extra lines.
The beginning is sang by Sauron. He’s trying to uncover Finrod and his companions’ identities, since they’re disguised as orcs and he knows something is off.
Finrod sings about escaping and staying strong to try to get away from Sauron and continue on his mission without being captured.
This part is exclusive to the song, and not in the original poem. It’s two parts of a poem known as Namárië, which Galadriel sings in Quenya after the parting feast in Fellowship of the Ring. It translates to:
“Maybe thou shalt find Valimar.
Maybe even thou shalt find it. Farewell!
Who now shall refill the cup for me?
Now lost, lost to those from the East is Valimar!”
The first two lines are sung by Finrod, but the last two are Sauron’s. I first thought this was about the closing of Valinor to men because of Númenor, but have now realized my mistake after learning about the Doom of Mandos. My interpretation of this song is that Galadriel, Finrod’s sister, sings about how the west is lost to many of the elves of her kindred, including herself, because of the kinslayings. Later on this song (not Namárië), the first kinslaying is referenced. I’ve heard a theory (Youtube comments definitely count as theories) that these lyrics were used to show Finrod being merciful and kind towards his opponent like the benevolent ruler he is, but Sauron refuses and says that he is no longer welcome in Valinor and would not be repenting. I just think it’s cool.
Finrod brings “Elvenesse”, or the lands of the elves, into his songs, taking inspiration from their beauty and power.
Finrod was king of Nargothrond. Simple.
This is a reference to the Teleri, the group of elves that love the sea, and live in the west, Valinor. Their city by the sea, Alqualondë, is covered in pearls.
Sauron twists Finrod’s song, and uses it to describe the kinslaying. He tells of the Noldor killing the Teleri in Alqualondë, then stealing their white ships to sail to the east. Foamriders is an older name used for the Teleri, not used in his more recent works.
In addition to pearls, Alqualondë also had lots of lamps. I suspect the ice in the sea in a subtle reference to Helcaraxë.
After losing the battle, Finrod and his 11 companions (including Beren) are captured in Sauron’s fortress. I’m not sure why Angband is referenced, since this happens in Tol-in-Gaurhoth, but it is easier to say and recognize, so that may have been a deciding factor. Maybe it’s just referencing the captives as something else entirely, apart from Finrod?
