Ok, I know I literally Just posted about this story, but here's a fun fact about magic and curses! I've already redesigned one of the guys in the story! :D
Feel free to guess, bc I'm putting the image under the cut
It was Terra. I redesigned Terra. And I am VERY glad I did. When I first made them, they had SUCH a different vibe. I just... couldn't see this has Terra. Still a good design! Just not Terra <3
#I love these guys a lot <3#maybe later I'll make a post of my initial ideas for all their designs#i sketched them out a few times before I actually made a reference image for them#also fun fact#Terra was the first person I designed in the hero group#and they're the only one to get a redesign so far lol#magic and curses#my ocs#ghosty ghost wispers in the void

I had to make a BIG post going over everything that's got my brain whirring after watching the story trailer - it's all my speculation and personal opinion so don't take it as fact yada yada IT'S FUN SPECULATION TIME
(I'll put it under the cut bc this is gonna be a LONG one)
“Miquella the kind spoke of the beginning. The seduction. And the betrayal. An affair from which Gold arose. And so too was Shadow born."
My interpretation of this scene is that we are seeing the creation of the Golden Order by Marika. She plucks grace from something dead and fleshy, and holds it up to the Greater Will, beckoning in her new age. It would make sense to me, considering the voiceover, that this is a dead god that has been betrayed by Marika so she can pursue her Order and claim power. It does like quite reminiscent of Kos from Bloodborne to me. The fleshiness of the corpse also reminds me of the godskins/snakeskin. However, I don't believe this is the Gloam Eyed Queen. From my understanding of the timeline (mainly thanks to @eldenringslut) the GEQ didn't come about until later on during Marika's reign - if we are seeing the creation of the GO, and my understanding of the timeline is correct, I don't think it would make sense for this to be the GEQ. I can't deny different aspects of this do allude to things related to her though - the dusky sky, the godskin-like flesh. But I almost think that would be too 'perfect' for it to fit together like that, especially with how much people want to know more about the GEQ, I think fromsoft would want to keep us in the dark and surprise us. Whatever we are seeing here, Gold and Shadow seemingly came about at the same time.
We get our first look at what appears to be Messmer's army. They appear to all wield spears which ties into Messmer's whole Impaler thing, along with the shot of the person(?) impaled on the steps. I wonder who these people were, if they had to stay in the Shadow Realm after the battle was done (if it is?). I find the design on the helmet interesting - at first glance I thought it could be a tree or roots, but actually doesn't it kind of remind you of the black tendrils that shoot out of Messmer's flame? I think it could be either, or both, or maybe it's a chicken and egg situation and they're related somehow... my first thought when the initial gameplay trailer came out was that the dark tendrils in Messmer's flame could be deathroot or something similar to that. Maybe I wasn't far off?
We get our first shot of Messmer here. His pose pretty much solidifies to me that this is his army - this is the pose of a character commanding an army. It's so classic fantasy, the composition and everything, I love it. Messmer is awesome. I'm obsessed with the snake-like flames flying above the carnage.
"What followed was a war unseen. One that could never be put to song. A purge without Grace, or honour. The tyranny of Messmer's flame."
My take on this is that once Marika had won her battle/betrayed the God we see her pluck Grace from, she had her opponents banished and/or wiped out at the hands of Messmer. I have to say, it does surprise me that it seems Messmer was around and fully grown at the creation of Marika's Order. The implications there leave me with so many questions. Who is his other parent? Marika is Numen, and they seldom give birth. This is not an insignificant thing for her to have a child, especially if the theory of births being governed by the Erdtree/Golden Order is to be believed, and this must have came about before then. It would also go against the idea that Messmer is the full brother/secret triplet of Miquella and Malenia, considering that Miq + Mal were not born until Marika had left Godfrey for Radagon. I find that detail so intriguing... especially because I was so on board with the butterfly theories.
No idea who this is, but they're cool and that definitely looks like the kind of weapon we'd be able to pick up. It just looks like a PVP weapon, know what I mean? Very reminiscent of Vyke as well imo, similar pose to the box art of him along with the billowing cape. This reminds me, I'm noticing an emphasis on hair in this trailer too - I never took much note of Marika's hair before but in this trailer there was a lot of emphasis put on how long it is, how similar it is to threads of Grace, and Miquella's hair too. It's making me think of the bible story of Samson but let me not go too off the rails
Here we have some of the coolest shots in the trailer imo. This posits the Lion/Omens as enemies of Messmer to me - which to me supports the view that Messmer is aligned with Marika. The Lion/Omens always came off to me as if they were making a mockery of the GO - positioning themselves as enemies to Marika/the GO. We get another good look at his Flame, with the tendrils. They almost remind me of thorns actually. That final shot looks like a victory scene to me. It also really hammers home the Impaler thing. The man knows his brand!
Then we pan up to see what hangs above this burned city - this 'shadow tree'. THIS IS MARIKA'S RUNE.
I think we are seeing the origins of her rune as part of the modern Elden Ring here - Grace/blessings dripping from the bough of this tree. I have to say given the imagery relating to motherhood on the run up to the DLC, the rune does look vaguely yonic, especially on the seals. I think references to motherhood are in this trailer too - Marika taking something from a fleshy orifice with a voiceover talking about seduction, I can't imagine that wasn't intentional. So far the main character we have seen is her child, after all. The whole story of Elden Ring revolves around Marika's children. I have a feeling Marika's relation to motherhood and childbearing is going to be a big theme in the DLC.
I remember when the first gameplay trailer dropped, people theorised that this was Ranni's rune, and I was happy to believe that because of the similarities to Rennala's rune. But now I believe it's Miquella's rune, for several reasons, one being it reminds me of Malenia's rune, and they are twins after all. Although Rennala and Malenia's runes are oddly similar, it just makes more sense to me that it would be Miquella's, considering we are following in his footsteps. I think these rune spikes are going to be our DLC equivalents of sites of grace.
"And so kindly Miquella would abandon everything. His golden flesh, his blinding strength..."
Abandoning his flesh is very reminiscent of Ranni... but why would he need to abandon his flesh? Perhaps after Mohg stole him away? Though I have to say, I'm warming up the idea that Mohg never actually had Miquella, he just thought he did. That might not make sense considering that body in Mohg's palace is how we get to the Shadow Lands, but I don't know, something about it doesn't sit quite right with me for some reason. The line 'his blinding strength' is a bit odd. I can't take credit for this next idea, I saw it on twitter, but someone suggested that this is referencing him potentially abandoning Malenia - his strength, his blade. For Miquella to abandon Malenia though, it doesn't exactly align with what we know of his character. This is the person that turned his back on the GO because it could do nothing for Malenia's sickness. He'd need a really good reason to do that to her. Maybe it was his only option? I'm so intrigued about why Miquella is even in the Shadow Lands to begin with. What are his motivations? Perhaps it's something to do with his proclivity to want to welcome all, especially those outside of Grace, I suppose those in the shadow lands fall under that mantle.
"Even his fate."
Now THIS is super interesting - our first look at St. Trina! In her usual purple - associated with sleep. It does also look like she's sleeping here, sinking... What on earth does it mean to say that Miquella abandoned his fate as we are shown an image of St. Trina? Was he meant to eventually become Trina fully? We don't know much about her, but we do know Trina is an aspect/alter-ego of some sort of Miquella. Considering his parents were one in the same body, it's not a stretch to assume this could be the same case here. But in Marika/Radagon's case, it doesn't seem completely intentional - with the Ring shattering, I always got the impression they each fought to be in control of their singular body. Perhaps Miquella/Trina worked together rather than against each other? The queer part of me can't help but think of some kind of allegory to transition and Miquella having to walk away from it for whatever reason... but I really don't know enough to figure anything out from this.
I saw someone point out that this shot of Trina looks like Trina's lilies too, which is super cool (sorry I don't remember who that was).
"But we are not deterred. We choose to follow. Will you walk with us?"
I'm honestly surprised to see all these characters that we saw in the previous trailer just hanging out, I assumed they'd all be enemies of different factions. But here they look like allies, and from the voiceover they sound like it too, asking if we will join them. I think the voiceover is one of these NPCs. Seeing the fighting guy second on the left has got me super excited, what if he teaches us the hands-on combat we saw him do in the first trailer? I also think the crouching character on the right is the one we saw sleeping in the purple area (Trina?) from the last trailer:
Anyway, these are my thoughts, I hope they resonate in one way or another. I can't wait to come back in a couple months and see how wrong I was <3 yayyy

for the @raguiras2 music event here is my drawing, it's the first event I've done, I hope my drawing is good
SSR Yumi Yozakura music Week
When Summoned: testing, testing, 1,2,3 ,show time.
Summon Line: What's that pink thing on stage?, oh it's me.
Groooovy!!: [blocked]
Home: I think this must be one of the few ideas from the director that I ended up liking, but I bet there will be some problem before the end of the day.
Home idle 1: initially I was thinking about staying backstage, but Kalim asked me to participate, and Ace said I didn't have the courage to go on stage, so I'm proving him wrong.
Home idle 2: this is fun, it reminds me of a time my sister took me to an idol event in secret from our older brother, it was super fun, and we didn't get scolded because we weren't caught.
Home idle 3: I'm surprised Idia is participating, he was probably forced to do this, at least he's behind the scenes, I use it not to attack his anxiety, at least that's what I hope.
Home idle- login: rehearsal time, how exactly do I have to pronounce the group name?.
Home tap 1: these clothes are adorable, I love my outfit, it's pink, it's one of my favorite colors, but can I change the shoes? these are hurting me.
Home tap 2: I may know how to dance, but I don't consider myself the best dancer in the world, but I'll do my best.
Home Tap 3: Kalim is always super energetic, the workouts are never boring with so much excitement, did anyone give him energy drinks? I'd better ask later, Kalim and caffeine are not a good combination.
home tap 4: the choreography is not that complicated, but I better keep practicing so I don't make any mistakes on the day of the performance
home tap 5: all these looks are giving me a lot of ideas, I'll start drawing after the shoot, maybe I'll convince Allen to be my model later
Home tap-groovy: [Locked]
This was a very fun event, it's my first drawing that I have the courage to post, I hope it turned out well
I was very nervous because it was my first event but it was a lot of fun
I created the entire design, except for the skirt and the skirt, which I had to use Ibis Paint because I couldn't do it, and the base of the design was made by @raguiras2 , which helped a lot, thanks for the help Mionn
sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes english is not my mother tongue likes and reblogs are greatly appreciated

Okay so!! Here's a little wap design compilation - not exhaustive, both because of the image limit and because there's many things I'm not settled on but I want to post some of it at least~
Organised by families because familial resemblence or lack thereof is one of my favourite factors in chardes! And because Tolstoy is so good at creating these family dynamics of shared traits! First, the Bolkonskys:
Lise, Mlle Bourienne and Nikolai jr. not included for now, maybe later. The shared traits I gave them all (therefore presumably coming from Nikolai's side) are sharp, angular features with a beaked nose and high cheekbones, thin figures and straight, dark hair. Both Andrei and Nikolai are described as short, so initially I wanted to apply this to them all, but then I thought it would be cool to emphasise Andrei's similarity to his father AND separate Marya out by making her much taller than them. It works really well because Andrei and Nikolai are both short yet straightened out to their full height while Marya cowers and hunches to hide hers - which also works to create the unattractive figure she's described as having. I use heads to note height - as in, how many heads tall a character is - mostly because numerous manga art tutorials ingrained those in me <:3c Nikolai has his signature bushy eyebrows, and his clothes and hair are inspired by his depiction in the first soviet wap movie because I really liked it!
In general I spent the most time on Andrei, both because he's my favourite and because he has a lot of tantalisingly sparse and at times interestingly contrasting descriptions - he's meant to look unassuming, his small and slender figure hiding his impressive stamina and his cushy administrative position contrasting with the rugged hussars (and his small hands are mentioned as well) but he has sharp features, and his design should showcase his proud, decisive nature as well.
The Rostovs! Not including the count and countess because while I have some features in mind I haven't made up my mind yet on the overall designs, and excluding Vera for reasons I'll divulge later. These Rostov kids are all energetic, emotionally driven and strong-willed and I wanted to reflect that in their designs - most of all in their hair, which is curly and kind of fluffy, making big, untamed shapes - I decided this they would have inherited from the Count. They're all rather short (I think some of the Rostovs are described as short so I extended it to the whole family) and a little stockier than the Bolkonskys - Natasha's figure is really incosistent because she gains and loses weight a lot over the book, but I settled on the slightly heavier side mostly to contrast with Sonya. I also love freckles and always associate them with energy and youthfulness so they got given to the Rostovs - presumably from the Count's side again. And their eyes and hair are all black or dark brown!
BIG RAMBLING RANT: The Countess is described as having "oriental features" and I wanted to incorporate that into the kids because it's like the most detail we ever get on someone's overall facial features lol but it turned out kind of frustratingly vague. I think my first idea was towards Georgia because Pierre mentions a woman with Georgian features in 1812, and because my ballets russes research included a very orientalist ballet about a georgian queen. I didn't find very good references though and turned next to Armenia, and when I found someone talking about common Armenian features that fit what I already had in mind for the Rostovs I ended up using that. However, later I realised those countries are in Western Asia and don't really fit the descriptor of "oriental (eastern)" from the perspective of Russia... Now I'm looking more towards the Kalmyk and Bashkir people after seeing them mentioned in one of my interlibrary books so I might revise the Rostovs yet. I did get kind of attached to the nose though so I'll do my best to keep it haha
The odd ones out in the Rostov household!! Sonya is, I believe, related to the Rostovs on the Count's side so maybe it would make sense to give her the fluffy hair and freckles, but she has enough descriptions in the book to form a separate design on her own (and she's only a second cousin to the Rostov kids, so it's pretty far away anyway). She's compared to a graceful kitten, described as almost unattractively thin and with a sallow skin, so I thought it would fit her to have a slightly unwell air, with portruding collarbones and a slight hunch. She also has her dark double braid.
Vera was fun once I got the idea to make her look very different from her siblings - to mirror her personality being completely different (cool, impassionate, meanspirited at times) and to visually reflect how she's disliked by the Countess - perhaps almost looking like she's not her parents' child 👀 She's taller and slimmer than her siblings, with straighter and lighter in colour hair, and her features are more smooth and soft. No freckles either.
The Kuragins! Those guys are fun. I have Anatole as the tallest in the cast (save for Pierre), and Helene as the tallest woman, with Ippolit the same height as her. Helene and Ippolit in general are described as having the same features so they ended up almost looking like twins! Later I'll talk a bit more about their facial features and hair but in terms of silhouettes, Helene has to have her round shoulders and impressive bosom (and low neckline), while Anatole has to look all broad-shouldered and masculine. He was actually the hardest to draw because I kept feeling like his head was too small and his whole body too long... I might go back and make him a bit broader still. A book I have says the elite life guards of the Russian army were known for their impressive, immaculate appearance, with some men padding their uniforms to add volume to their chest... That made me think of Anatole lmao.
A little roll call to show everyone's height in relation to each other.
More about the Kuragins! I tackled Helene with the aim to make her beautiful by the standards of the time, and luckily there's actually an 1812 bust of the Greek Helene! It was too poerfect of a coincidence so I leaned heavily into it. I find that typical features of ancient Greek or 19th century Hellenistic busts are a very straight nose that flows smoothly from the forehead, a very round jawline with a somewhat portruding chin and that particular curve of the neck. I gave Helene all of those along with heavily-lidded, downturned eyes and an expression that hopefully conveys calm confidence and intelligence. Ippolit is supposed to have the same features but made to look ugly by his stupid expression - this actually turned out easier than I thought? Though it might just be that the moustache looks kind of stupid - maybe I should try a version without it. Anatole I thought ought to look impressive and masculine so in the end I kept the squarer jaw and strong forehead (and I couldn't resist the slicked back hair) but I considered a more Hellenistic version too, with the short curls and round jaw. Helene's hair was tricky because none of the styles I saw felt quite right - I settled on a sort of combo of the Hellenistic curls from the statue but a bit looser with the braid she's described to have in the book. She'd also probably wear a lot of hair accessories but I'll have to do more research on those.
More Natasha and Sonya, and Andrei - Andrei is so difficult!! I always kind of oscillate between "stern, strong-willed soldier", "sharp-featured intellectual" and "soft pampered prince/troubled poet" (where I try and fail to imitate this gorgeous illustration by Vadimir Serov). The Brutus haircut is tempting in its historical accuracy, but I'm just a little bit too fond of the immaculately slicked back hair...
Edit: I completely forgot @visualnoteslibrary was on Tumblr!! Thank you so much for collecting all the descriptions, you spared me quite the Easter egg hunt through the Gutenberg version <3

Sorry this is unfinished but I need to post these now just bc idfk when i'm gonna actually finish the rest realistically. Idk it will happen eventually. For now heres the great p5u ramblings post detailing my thoughts designs
This is my own personal interpretations but is also somewhat speculative in nature. I'm mostly trying to deal in already established characterizations and epilogue set ups but there might be stuff I've missed or forgotten (i also haven't played dancing yet sorry if there's something in there I hadn't accounted for). This is kind of like if I took the creative reigns on the story where I'd continue for it. Only the investigation team for now (and 2 boss characters I have an idea for) but maybe I'll do the shadow ops at some point. Only 4 characters for now but I'll reblog with additions when I finish the rest or if I edit any of these
Yu Narukami
He's currently attending school as a journalism student in the city or just starting out as one. Enthusiastic about his field but still tries to find the time to keep up with his friends and visit Inaba on his holidays. I felt journalism made alot of sense for him with the themes of persona 4. I liked the sport jacket and turtleneck but wanted soemthing different so the scarf was chosen to keep the same kind of silhouette. I made the collar on the winter coat large and I feel like Narukami's large uniform collar is a key part of his design. and I wanted to call back to that in his casual outfit. The summer outfit I mostly kept close to his summer outfit from p4. I'm kind of unsure on it though I might come back to it. I mostly wanted to keep his outfits smart and simple. For his meta verse outfit I really wanted to go all out with the bancho (kingpin) stuff and other delinquent tropes. I lengthened the uniform coat a little because I wanted it to look like a tokko-fuku. Alot of smaller detail inspiration was taken from Izanagi. The lenses in the mask are supposed to mimic glasses. I'd imagine he'd take off the mask the same way he throws off his glasses in myriad truths.
Teddie
I can't imagine him leaving Inaba and the TV world behind. Still staying in town and working largely the same job. He's got his own place now albeit small (still a step up from the closet though). At some point the IT asked Mitsuru to pull some strings so he actually has a legal personhood now. The animal hoodie is something that came to me spontaneously but I knew I needed to include it. I really that his normal outfit in 4 keeps the white and red of the bear costume in the outfit so I tried to keep the colour scheme here too. Most of his later outfits are less flashy and more casual so I tried to continue that trend. I didn't want to lose the rose from the corsage completely so I included a rose pattern in the second shirt. Alot of his outfits feature light blue so I wanted that in at least one outfit. I considered making the hoodie light blue initially. I don't think he'd have a metaverse outfit he'd just use the bear costume.
Naoto Shirogane
I'm under the assumption Naoto is still presenting masculinely to the general public as of p5 but I may be mistaken in this. If I'm wrong I'd still probably largely keep the outfits similar to this. Naoto's still working as a detective and I don't think that's ever really going to change. One thing that a hypothetical p5u would have to address is what Naoto and the shadow ops would have been doing during the events of persona 5 and I unfortunately do not have any ideas for what that would be at the moment.
I feel alot of the appeal of Naoto's design is the kind of boy detective fashion. I went at this design with the intention of kind of refining that into something a little more adult while still keeping in a similar vein. I did have to ditch the pageboy hat unfortunately as I felt it made them look too young. These outfits were kind of design as pseudo work clothes which is why I tried to make them a bit more formal then the other characters. Something I consider notable about Naoto's design but deliberately avoided here was the rolled up pant legs. It's very obvious in 4 it's done because Naoto is short but I feel like Naoto would start getting that either custom made or tailored to fit. I was initially going to forgo the blazer on the summer outfit but the design felt empty without it. Naoto having a noir detective themed metaverse outfit is an idea I'd had for years but I tried to incorporate design elements that were princely. I alot of the inspiration was from Sam Spade specifically. Deliberately made similarities to Akechi's white crow design. The band around the hat is supposed to invoke the similar one on the old page boy hat.
Yukiko Amagi
Still working at her families in but is taking online courses during the off seasons. She's mostly happy where she is but is keeping her options open. Occasionally makes visits to other ryokans out of town for ideas for her families own inn, as well as an opportunity to for her to sight see.
The headband was included in her design in p4 as a like retro design thing but I find it too important of a marker of her design to remove it. I understand the why they went with the hairstyle they did for her golden epilogue but I feel it just ends up making her look way older then she is. I thought her having her hair up would be a nice change since she does it so rarely and settled on a ponytail. Tried changing the bangs but the ones she already had just felt right. I wanted her clothes to carry this kind of air of sophistication so I tried to keep them relatively simple and sleek. She's wearing pants in the winter outfit but I chose the longer coat to keep a similar skirt silhouette. The choker was largely inspired by the scarf she has in her winter outfit. Despite being a different colour the cardigan was also chosen to tie back somewhat to the sweater she wears with her school uniform.
In some side material it's mentioned that Yukiko has an interest in western fashion and aesthetics (part of what made the castle manifest the way it did) and I wanted to lean on that in some way for her metaverse design. I ended up going with a masquerade ball theme. I tried to keep the dress to something simple and easy to move in. The gloves and boots take inspiration from her persona in terms of design and size. I wanted to incorporate elements from her work kimono as well hence the ribbon around the torso and flower patterning. Probably the most unsure of this one of the metaverse designs so far. Especially the colours (considered making the reds pinks initially). Might revisit this one.
Ok that's all I have for now I'll probably do Rise's next 👍👍👍
#sorry these are of wildly varying quality i did them at completely disconnected times#i guess feel free to critique my ideas if you want but be nice pleaseeeeee#persona 4#fine this can go in the main tags#also this took like 3 days to type up. i just proofread it but if theres something that makes no sense then oops my bad#ul

Week 1: Dreams and Nightmares
I wanted to get out of my own head first by getting other people's dreams and nightmares are a relatively personal thing so where could I go where people share a bit too much of their personal thoughts?
Twitter [Look up any of these users at your own risk]
My favorite thing about searching for people's dreams on Twitter was finding out that other people also had the desire to illustrate ideas from their own dreams. I also ended up writing several stories and coming up with many character designs based on what I've seen in a dream before.
These three images are the other types of dreams I found to be most common on the website. Dreams related to future goals, nightmares featuring realistic fears, and dreams where one is visited by a loved one. I have a lot of screenshots related to this, but i'll only list three for now.
2. Reddit
I'll keep this section brief as Reddit serves the same purpose in my research as Twitter did. There are two relevant Reddit threads I looked at, r/Dreams & r/Nightmares, which are dedicated to people recalling and trying to make sense of their unconscious thoughts. I noticed that the dreams listed here are closer to the dreams I personally experience regarding the level of complexity. When ask my friends to recall their dreams, it's usually something that could be summed up in one or two sentences.
I've been writing down my dreams for years and I have an idea that the more you write down your dreams, the better you will get at recalling them when you wake up.
3. Academic Research
We've all experienced dreams and nightmares, but what are they?
“Dreams are understood to be recent autobiographical episodes that become woven with past memories to create a new memory that can be referenced later, but nightmares are simply dreams that cause a strong but unpleasant emotional response.” (Harvard)
Dreams are known to take place during the REM stage of sleep. I found it interesting that the amount of your dream that you can recall depends on what state you're in before you wake up.
“Subjects awakened from REM sleep recall elaborate, vivid, hallucinogenic and emotional dreams, whereas subjects awakened during non-REM sleep report fewer dreams, which, when they occur, are more conceptual, less vivid and less emotion-laden” (The Possible Functions of REM Sleep and Dreaming)
The Dutch playwright Frederik van Eeden is credited with coining the term lucid dreaming. In his paper, Eeden classifies nine different types of dreams. I didn't get to all of them yet but here are the ones I noted: Initial dreams, lucid dreams, ordinary dreams, vivid dreams, symbolic/mocking dreams, and general dream sensations. A Study of Dreams by Frederik van Eeden
4. Topics I will look more into
Tiktok Reality Shifting (People believe that through dreams they could travel their consciousness to an often fictional world and interact with the characters there)
Lucid Dreaming (I'm aware that i'm dreaming but my brain doesn't allow me to have any control over my dreams which sucks.
Precognitive Dreams & Nightmares ( I have a lot of research on this already done, I just don't like how long this blog post is ).
Whenever it's time to do research for capstone, I get a bit worried by how surface-level the amount of research I get done my first round around is. I think the research I did this week is okay, I found looking into social media sites to find the dreams other people have had was a comforting experience, but I hope to dive deeper into an aspect of dreams I maybe haven't discovered yet.

My February Box has arrived!
I initially thought that my box had shipped on the 20th as that was when I received the email from Sakuraco, however, when I actually looked at the shipping information I few days later I learnt that it had actually started shipping on the 16th
I received the shipping info from a different site this time and I was kept informed of where my box was every step of the way - including where it was in Australia. Last time, I had no idea where my box was once it reached Australia but this time I was kept informed and I even got a message from Australian Post the morning that the box was arriving. The box arrived at 10:20 am on the 27th. As you can see, my box was delivered to Australia very quickly, it had cleared customs on the 19th. So just like last time the process through Japan was very efficient while the postal service in Australia was a lot slower. I am definitely glad that I wasn't left in the dark once my box reached Australia this time. On a less positive note is the condition my box arrived in.
I mentioned last time that I was worried the box would arrive unprotected. Well, it did :(
The box arrived completely uncovered - not even with a thin layer of plastic - with the shipping info stuck directly to the box. Naturally, the box was damaged somewhere during its long journey.
Its not as visible in the photo but there is a long mark going across the top of the box which almost looks like a tread mark from a tire. The box is indented here as whatever that caused the mark has put too much pressure on the cardboard. I don't know what could have possibly left that kind of a mark without also being heavy enough to completely squash the box. It doesn't really matter what it was anyway. That is the biggest point of damage and it is right on the top of the box over the main point of the design. There is also various little dents around the sides and some of the corners are pretty banged up. I don't really want to leave the shipping info stuck to the box but I also don't want to risk removing it and damaging the box more than it already is.
When I was looking in to Sakuraco I really liked how the boxes all represented the theme of the month. I thought they looked really beautiful and I wanted to keep mine to remember the month and what I ate and everything I learnt. Bokksu doesn't do this. They usually always (I think there's been a few exceptions in the past) have the same orange box with their logo on it. For me personally, this was another reason that I chose Sakuraco. So I cannot overstate how absolutely bummed I am that they wouldn't protect their boxes in any way. If you're going to have gorgeous boxes that perfectly fit the theme you are trying to establish then why would you let them get banged up while their travelling around the world? It doesn't make any sense to me. A lot of work has been put into these boxes both designing and implementing that design. Its an absolute shame that they wouldn't even try to protect them. I was so careful every time I handled my January box as I was scared to damage it and I wanted to keep it in perfect condition so for the February one to arrive like this is like a slap in the face. I'm so disappointed.
Anyway, I'll put the full review for the February box up when I've finished going through all the snacks - I'm currently aiming for before the 15th of March. Prior to this I will put up what information I can find about where else the snacks can be found for the January box (if anywhere) online. Unfortunately, I won't have a chance to look in store at this point in time but maybe in a few months I'll get there.

Okay, I have a cool au idea, and no one to tell, so I'll post it here 🤧
Let me know if I should try and actually flesh this out into a proper fic lol
Also, heads up, I've never used a Tamagotchi before, so I'm only going off of what my sister has told me about them. Let me know if I got anything wrong 😋
-----------
Steve meets a fan one day who has a Captain America Tamagotchi. Steve asks what it is, what the purpose is, and the fan tells him that you just, like, feed them and play games with them. They're just a lil companion you can carry around :]
Steve brings it up that night to the avengers, and Clint exclaims that his daughter has one. Tony explains that, ya, all the avengers have one. He was thinking about getting the Iron Man one, but he doesn't even take care of himself, so he would probably neglect the thing. Tony mentions that Bucky has one too, and complains about how he's not even an avenger, nor is he even alive, yet he has one. Steve is curious about it, but forgets about it pretty quickly.
A few weeks later, shopping for groceries or something, he comes across some of the aforementioned tamagotchi. He glances at his own characterized version, but quickly moves on and smiles, examining the others. He pauses when he sees Bucky's, staring at it for a moment before picking it up. He looks at the outside design, sorta just staring at it, but jumps back to the present at the sound of a loud child's voice. He makes a quick retreat, but not before slipping the tamagotchi quietly into his basket.
He doesn't use the thing for a few days, but eventually opens it up. It's pretty easy to turn on, and when the screen lights up, his eyes meet... Not Bucky.
Steve blinks, watching the dancing character (that kind of looks like a WW2 soldier because of the uniform) for a moment, before furrowing his brows. He quickly finds the packaging it came in, thinking he might have grabbed the wrong one. But nope, a little pixelated Bucky stays firmly printed on the box.
So why...?
Looking over the instructions again, he tries to see if he had messed up somewhere. Maybe he turned it on wrong??
Oh.
He was supposed to evolve him.
Well, this was more complicated then he had initially thought. These were supposed to be kids toys, weren't they?
He bites his lip in contemplation. He had originally just wanted to see how the tamagotchi behaved, just to check it out. He didn't think he would have to actually put work into it.
Maybe he should return it? It hadn't been used yet, not really.
But he wanted to see Bucky on it.
He moves on to look at the controls. It's not hard to figure out which buttons to click, since there's only three. He fiddles around with it, watching the character move. The game he finds is a shooting game, where he needs to click the button when the characters lineup meets the target.
He jumps when suddenly another character pops up, and the starter character starts to beep. Steve clicks button A and relaxes when the attacking character disappears.
It has looked like a Hydra goon.
He spends a few minutes a day looking after the tamagotchi.
He's in the middle of feeding the tamagotchi when it suddenly stops dancing and beeps. He furrows his brows in confusion, thinking he might have broken it. He clicks the button, and watches as the character suddenly gets covered in a cloud of smoke and changes, a new character taking his place.
He squints.
Is that...is that HIM??
Okay, somethings definitely wrong with this thing.
He looks back at the instructions, but can't find anything about it. Eventually, he caves and asks J.A.R.V.I.S. The AI tells him about how they evolve, and how to get certain characters, you have to get others first.
"So..how do I get Bucky?"
"Well, there is good news Captain. To get Sargent Barnes, you have to had first gotten yourself. You've already made it half way."
Steve smiles, pleased, "Oh!"
The AI continues, "But I'm afraid that there's still a chance you may not get the Sgt. during your next evolve."
Steve's brows furrow, "Who else could I get from here?"
"Well, depending on your continued care, you have the possibility of obtaining Mrs. Romanov, Mr. Odinson, Clint Barton, and of course, Sgt. Barnes."
(Maybe Steve shows up as pre serum, and you can get him post serum as one of the options???)
Steve looks down at the tamagotchi, dejected "Oh."
The AI seems to hesitate before asking, "Would you like me to tell you the type of care you will need to do to achieve Stg. Barnes, Captain Rogers?"
Steve's head perks up as he looks quickly to the ceiling, "You could do that?"
"Of course, Captain."
Steve gives the ceiling a toothy grin, "Well, that'd be real swell of you J.A.R.V.I.S., thank you."
Steve spends the next few days taking care of the tamagotchi. He's high-key a lil pissy taking care of himself. Cause it's like, he barely takes care of himself, why would he want to look after a fake him. He's a little uncomfortable with it, and gets like, second hand embarrassment?? Annoyance?? When he has to take care of him. Anything for Bucky tho.
It's when he's cooking food that he hears the tamagotchi beep. He picks it up absentmindedly, thinking the lil guy was being attacked again, but quickly finds his attention focused on the screen as the pixeled Steve is covered. He holds his breath, hoping that it's-
It's Bucky.
He got Bucky-he actually got him.
He's wearing his howlies outfit, his hair slicked back just like Steve remembers.
The game is the exact same, but not at the same time.
Playing the shooting game, he can't help but smile when he sees Bucky do a lil dance after getting them all, steadfastly ignoring the tightness in his throat.
He feeds Bucky and gives him drinks, but quickly puts him down after. He returns to cooking, this time with a heavier heart.
He looks after Bucky way better then he had the previous character, checking up on him regularly
He's ecstatic when he discovers that there's other games. The second game has Bucky doing jumping jacks, which is kind of boring because he just has to spam click the same button over and over. But it makes him chuckle everytime when Bucky gives me a tired thumbs up after.
The third game makes Steves eyebrows raise in surprise. A pixelated version of himself stares back at him in a fighting stance. It's a QuickTime thing where he has to make Bucky click the correct order of buttons to dodge pixel Steves punches.
He messes up the first time, too busy staring at pixel him and Bucky together.
Tamagotchi Bucky becomes kind of a coping thing to help Steve with living in this new century, something for him to look forward to every morning. When he wakes up, he feeds Bucky while feeding himself, drinks when he gives Bucky water. He watches Bucky train to give himself motivation to leave his room to train too. He knows it's sad, and probably unhealthy, but it's helped him make more progress than any type of therapy he's done in this century has achieved.
He's such a light sleeper because of the army that he wakes up when Bucky does. Sometimes, when he has a nightmare, he watches Bucky while he sleeps until he himself falls back into unconsciousness, imagining that it's actually Bucky laying next to him, sharing the bed together like they'd done before the war.
He doesn't tell the other avengers about it. He's pretty sure Natasha knows, but she hasn't said anything, so Steve hasn't asked.
Steve gets closer to the avengers and keeps looking after Bucky
It's good.
Until it isn't.
The avengers are suddenly called in for a mission. It's a long one that requires them to be away in another country. Steve didn't bring Bucky because he didn't have time, which he's sad about, but there's nothing he can do about it. The mission turns out to be a success, and Steve's excited to go home and see Bucky again. But when he gets back, he sees that Buckys screen has changed. Bucky's lying down with a little skull above his head. He confused and tries to make Bucky do something, but nothing happens. He asks J.A.R.V.I.S why the tamagotchi wasn't working, and the AI tells him that Bucky had died while Steve was away on the mission. Steve almost flinches at those words, looking back down at the skull and staring at it with a sick feeling in his gut. He didn't know they could die.
Steve ends up breaking down, crying that entire night. It's not just the tamagotchi, it's everything piling up and finally spilling out. He cries from grief, from anger, from fear. He finally cries for Bucky.
He's off for the next few days, and the others notice, but he doesn't tell them what happened. Natasha tries to corner him to ask him about it, but he gets away before she can get any real answer out of him.
The whole Winter Soldier thing happens before she can try again.
Steve forgets about the tamagotchi after that, overwhelmed at the fact that Bucky's alive. Actually alive.
He helps Bucky heal and stuff
When Bucky finally moves into Steves room, they're sorting through Steve's stuff to make room for Buckys
"Is this a tamagotchi?"
Steve turns around and sees him holding Steve's old Bucky tamagotchi. He'd totally forgotten about that thing.
"How'd you know what it was?"
Bucky gives him an unamused face, "I know I'm old Steve, but not that old."
Bucky wordlessly hands Steve the tamagotchi, and Steve runs his thumb over it, stroking it softly.
Neither of them say anything for a minute before Steve says, "It was, ah, yours. Themed after you, I mean" he's annoyed at the way his voice cracks at the end.
Steve can feel Bucky watching him, but doesn't look up, not wanting to see Bucky's face. The meaning behind him having this obvious, he knew Bucky would have already figured it out
But Bucky just hums, turning back to start rummaging through Steve's things again, "I didn't know they made one for me. Thought it was just you lot. That's kind of cool."
"Maybe I should get one of you huh? I know Nat said something about getting a house plant or something to look after, but at least with a tamagotchi, if I kill it I can just restart it."
---- Or the line "I always liked that even when they die, they'll always come back." Heavily implying what happened to Bucky, that even though Steve thought he died, he came back, alive again
Steve blinks and looks up, confused, "Restart it?"
"Well, ya. You can just respawn them and start over when they die."
They stare at each other in silence, before Bucky asks him "Do you want me to show you how to bring him back?"
Steves first response is to say yes, but he pauses, and really thinks about it. Because he has Bucky here. The real Bucky. Not some pixeled Bucky, the Bucky who looks like his old Bucky. He has HIS Bucky here, his Bucky who he can still wake up next too, but feel his warm skin in his hand instead of cold plastic. His Bucky who he can cook with and eat and drink with, and sit across from the dining table with instead of just clicking a button. His Bucky who he can not just train in person with, but also go out and just walk with, hold hands with. His Bucky who he can stay up all night with, who will hold him when he has a nightmare and vise versa.
Mind made up, Steve silently turns, feeling Buckys curious gaze follow him, and places the small tamagotchi on top of the growing pile they plan on putting into storage. "No," he says softly, taking a moment before finally looking over at Bucky and giving him a small, private smile.
"He already is."
#so many fic ideas but so little motivation#ri0twrites#a lot of this is based off of my sisters experience with her tamagotchi#it took months before she figured out there were other games to play 😭#also all her tamagotchis died#v sad#😞

LET'S DO IT: Send your letters to Netflix on FRIDAY 13th. Details below.
Shared (with permission) from https://www.reddit.com/r/1899/
What?
Send physical letters to Netflix. I saw the idea in this post and its comments. Time to do it, isn't it?
[If I have missed an initiative that is already trying to put this into action, let me know below.]
Why?
More tangible than a petition (even though I also love the latter). Ideally, it could be picked up by some media outlets. Highly symbolic, a perfect fit for 1899. It shows we are a committed fanbase that is willing to go to great lengths to renew the show and ultimately recruit new viewers/advertise the show.
As individuals, it will take us only a couple of minutes to prepare. As a group, it could have a nice impact.
When?
Let's aim to get them in the mail on Friday, January 13th, wherever you are. This will mean that many will arrive at the same time, while others will flood in later in waves.
Some people mentioned that this is too soon. I understand, but I assume that many people will manage. I think it is important to keep the momentum up and do it fairly soon. So try to do it on Friday, but obviously it's also perfectly fine if you do it at a later time.
How?
I'll categorise this into subpoints as it has many facets.
Send to?
Most people in the comment seemed to consider the US headquarters the best target. Makes sense.
If you can do so, please send it to:
Netflix Corporate Headquarters 100 Winchester Circle, Los Gatos, CA 95032 United States
If this is not feasible for you (too expensive, ...), consider sending it to
Netflix Services Germany GmbH, Friedrichstraße 88 10117, Berlin Germany
How to design the letter?
I think it should be as simple as possible while being immediately recognisable. It would make sense to have one common element, while individually one may add to the content of the letter.
My suggestion for the element common to all letters: Write...
"What is lost, must be found" [so they look similar to how they are in the series; "must" to connect it to the renewal request] and
"#save1899"
... on the outside (backside) of the letter.
Make it positive: Hating Netflix won't bring us far. No hate, just show your affection for the series and creators.
To lower the barriers for those who wouldn't know what to write:
just focus on the envelope. The slogans above could be enough. Regarding the content: Maybe someone can post a template (containing 3 sentences or so that everyone can write)?
someone in the comments suggested this: "Dear Netflix, 1899 has the potential to be one of your staples and an exemplary display of creativity in storytelling and visual arts. Baran Bo Odar and Jantje Friese have already proven their ability to accomplish a fantastic show with Dark. Please reconsider your decision to cancel 1899, and give it another chance! #renew1899 #save1899 "
Contact media outlets
Media coverage would be beneficial. To achieve that, we should contact some media outlets that have covered 1899's cancellation already. This would be a heads-up in the sense: There's something coming, please watch out and maybe write an article. Some of them were:
Variety
NME
Hollywood Reporter
Deadline
CNET
Daily Mail
Collider
Vulture
Inverse
....
What to do next?
Spread the word (friends, other social media platforms); prepare
Help me:
if you have time, look up addresses (or think about where to send it)
I'll edit the post to add your research from time to time.
make suggestions for the design
remember though that it should be easy enough to implement for everyone - that's why I think a simple common element on the outside is good, while you can put whatever 1899-related you want on the inside
lookup media outlets and contact them (let others know in the comments); tell them that they may watch out for this and cover the story
Check out this post for further updates
Anything to add to this post??
Moderators: Should this post be supported by many people, could you pin it until Friday?
On Friday 13th: SEND!
Send as many as you feel comfortable with.

Ten more frames,
About two more days of penciling and inking, stand between me and frame 150. I organize the lineworks and raw, individual frames in groups of fifty, which can be dumb, since it makes it less convenient to find frames sometimes, if I don't remember what number frame I'm looking for. It's also a fairly handy arrangement, since it makes it really, really quick to find what I want when I know what I'm looking for. It apparently takes me about four months to completely color a whole folder of linework. So that's...... interesting. I'm just really excited about being so close to coloring frame 150 because that means that I can finally publish a volume of my work. Also, maybe I'm being super optimistic, but I think I can finish 150 frames by the end of the year.
I'm still having this....... unreal feeling about even reaching frame 140--I still have this unreal, like I'm not ready yet, how did I get here so fast feeling. It should be fine, I have a lot of those character designs ready enough--I really should do some character sheets so that I'm quite confident that I like the character designs by the time I commit to them. But then.......... it also feels like the runway I've prepared for myself is getting exponentially shorter. What am I going to do when I run out of these old thumbnails?!?
I shouldn't panic. It's not like the story is going to go entirely on hiatus. I have plenty of material even right now, if I don't do any more competing for the rest of the year and I just focus on thumbnails, to carry me over the line into next year. I'm just uncertain. I literally have never visually seen the story beyond the point where my original thumbnails end. I have no idea what it looks like. So far, past-me has held present-me's hand with her immature attempts to represent the vision of the story.
The other thing is, sure, the story isn't huge right now, so it wouldn't be hard to slip things into the narrative if I needed to add visual clarification or anything like that. I don't have a ton of fans to notice when I've added new material. I just worry about the work posting so fast that I don't have a ton of time to realize that I should add more detail to a scene. I had to do that in the initial thumbnailing process, I'm still going back as I color, realizing a scene could use more information and adding more frames on the spot--which means, just as a completely random example, I'll be finally coloring frame 050 when I realize I need more information visually. I go back to the sketchbook where I'm working on 085, well now what was formerly 085; maybe now it's 087 or 089. Good thing probably no one will ever see the actual physical artefacts of my physical sketchbooks. They're a little chaotic. Good thing for digitization. I photograph the frames and save them in order and it's easy enough to change their order, if need be.
I guess what I'm getting at here, too, is, the uncertainty makes me very nervous. Maybe around the new year, I should take a couple of weeks to thumbnail beyond my current thumbnails. I keep wondering if I should have a specific sketchbook for my thumbnails, or if that's too much and just having the visuals and being willing to add more information many, many pages later into the sketchbook, will be okay. I'm fine, like I said, working around these additions as I'm sketching and inking, and they photograph as individual units anyway, so all I have to do is add them into my digital folders and tada! I have the necessary visual information to make a scene or transition clear.
I mean, maybe instead of getting a whole entire fresh sketchbook for thumbnails, so that I'm not juggling thumbnails and final, inked linework, I could switch back into the Walmart sketchbook. This leaves tons of room for planning frames, while still leaving (probably, most likely) ample space for the final lineworks based on existing thumbnails (I mean, the sketchbook I'm currently working in has, I think, two hundred pages, that's four hundred frames; I haven't even reached page fifty where I am in the lineworks. I have about 100-150 extant thumbnails, which will probably translate to about 150-200 final lineworks. I'm aaaaaaa-okie-kay; I find it excruciatingly difficult to believe that the thumbnails I have yet to work from will lead me to produce more frames than I have pages in my current sketchbook). Having the new thumbnails rest for a while I color the remaining final frames will give me plenty of time to figure out if I'm giving enough visual information or if I need to add more.
Anyway. It would definitely put my mind at ease to do some thumbnailing at least several weeks before I need the new material; it will give me time to let the thumbnails rest, like a good steak, before it's time to really work with them and need to decide if the information is enough or not. I need to figure out when to take that time off to produce those thumbnails. Well....."time off" is definitely a dumb way of putting it. Tangent time.
I think I'll wait until I've fully cleaned the first 100 frames. Or maybe 150. A hundred fifty frames should be about 50 pages of material--twenty-five pages isn't horrible for a graphic novel. It would make physical copies very affordable. It's going to be hard, now that I'm thinking about it so hard, to stay on tangent. Maybe I'll just queue up my Tumblr till the end of the year and take care of thumbnailing.....
What am I so anxious about? This project moves entirely at my pace. I mean, of course, I want to continue steadily posting new frames. That's important. There's only a few weeks left in the year. I could spend a few days, and evenings once I'm back to work, cleaning up those frames, getting them queued and ready to post, and then spend a month or two thumbnailing--that could be a lot of material, depending on the level of detail I put into the frames. They should be very visually clear so that I can pretty much read them myself, so at least final penciled.
I could essentially work on thumbnailing tomorrow--I've got plenty of material to queue, I've got enough linework to color for several weeks, and I still have several frames that can be prepared and queued quickly. I know by going on the slight but necessary tangent of thumbnailing, I'm adding more layers of work to myself, but without this necessary work, I run out of runway to work with. I don't know what any more of the story looks like, and it's harder to work with if I don't plan ahead at least a little.

Veruca Then vs Now
Hello! Not officially back because I'm still taking my break from here but I wanted to share this. As the title suggests, I will be sharing all the things about Veruca that I've changed throughout the year. I recently started looking back on Veruca's character on when I first made her and realized just how different she is to the Veruca everyone knows today.
Not sure how many facts I'll be going over, but this will be interesting. Let's get started!!
Before officially becoming a Hogwarts Mystery OC, she was made for the Golden Trio Era. She was three years older than the trio and hung around isolated places such as the astronomy tower or the owlery.
Veruca was originally a daughter to deatheaters but was later disowned when she refused to follow in her family's path. She was then forced to become a deatheater when they ambushed her during the attack at the Quidditch World Cup.
Veruca was originally supposed to be shipped with Carson but I ended up liking some characters a lot more than I initially thought. And now I can't view the two as anything BUT siblings.
Veruca's old concept design had her with slightly tanned skin with black hair. And you can't really tell from the image, but she also originally had fiery orange eyes. Clearly different than the Veruca we're all used to today.
Veruca's personality had her much more colder and intimidating due to her being a daughter of death eaters and then eventually disowned by them. She also preferred being alone, even telling Carson she didn't want any rumors about him going around. She was also much more moodier than how she is now, quickly losing her temper at the slightest thing.
She was originally skilled at 'dual wand wielding' after stealing someone else's wand and practicing with both of them. That was later swapped for wandless magic.
She originally hated her brother Coby. Their relationship wasn't exactly great. With Coby being the pride and joy to their mother, was always being neglected by her mother. Veruca's relationship with her mother was very bad. Wilhelmina outright telling her that Coby was the only child she was proud of and that Veruca was merely a child who kept making mistakes. The neglect made Veruca desperate for her mother's affection that when Coby went missing despite being happy about it Veruca didnt hesitate to try to find him hoping that by finding him her mother would love her. Now her relationship with her mother isn't entirely great now, but it's clearly a lot better than before. Wil does love her daughter, but as an Irish woman, they tend to favor their sons more.
After changing Veruca's backstory, she was also going to have an older sister named Cerise. Technically that was a placeholder name but let's roll with it. She was disowned and never mentioned by the family due to her psychotic and sadistic view. Veruca never liked her as she was always physically or verbally abused by Cerise. During the search for Rakepick in the forbidden forest, instead of her showing up Cerise does leaving Veruca frozen in her spot. She tried to fend Cerise off but eventually fell short when Cerise casted a spell towards Rowan to distract her before Cerise casts a spell strong enough to send Veruca flying back badly wounded that she needed to be sent to St. Mungo's for recovery. This was now changed to be more of an au and the original storyline was scrapped.
Veruca runs away from Hogwarts and everyone after she couldn't take any more of the dangers and stress from searching for the vaults, and the fact her friends were slowly turning their backs on her after hearing them talking about how much she just needed them for the vaults or how she didn't really care about their feelingswith the exception of Carson. This was scrapped in favor of the one now, this is now an au idea instead.
Veruca was planned to die within the final vault where she materializes into nothing right in front her friends' eyes. Has now become an au idea. And a drawing idea
The original idea for the final vault was to have Veruca sacrifices herself from her friends' memories so they no longer remember her. She doesn't bring herself to interact with them again, and would rather suffer alone with her own memories of everyone else. Also now has become an au idea in favor of her story now.
Veruca was also supposed to have another sister for her deatheater backstory. Her name was Heidi and she was 8 years younger than Veruca. Their relationship is a little rocky as they used to be close when they were younger but Heidi was always told not to play with Veruca. When Veruca was disowned, Heidi was told Veruca had betrayed the family which angered her.
———————————————
Well, that's all the things I was able to recall for Veruca's past concept. I'm sure there was more hidden in my memories somewhere but these were the ones that I remembered the most
I definitely like how Veruca is now as compared to back then. She has definitely gone through a lot of changes throughout the year. And I'm glad that there are people who actually like her character! I was a little worried about that honestly xD
I'm also working on a new post regarding genderbent Carson and Veruca. And maybe I might also make a Then vs Now post for Carson too!
What are your thoughts on Veruca's character back then? Do you like her now or did you find her past portrayal interesting? Do you have anything to share about your MC from how they were when you made them to how they are now? I'd love to read about them.
I'm just gonna tag this as #MC Then Vs Now for future reference because I know I'll make a similar post for other characters of mine =w=
#veruca mcquaid#mc then vs now#hogwarts mystery#hphm#harry potter hogwarts mystery#ariparri#okay back to my break! goodbye!!!

Continuing from a different post, but I decided not to reblog because this would be one long-ass reblog, plus it kinda goes off topic as well.
I also don't know how to use the "read more" so... Well, fuck. Sorry.
@localblueslinky
Apparently by "a little," my subconscious meant to dump all of my OC's designs, evolution and backstory at your feet. I'll try to summarize lmao.
I had gotten this idea at the beginning of 2019. Maybe a month after CYM was released. I really wanted a SU OC and my favorite color was blue at the time, so, naturally, I ended up researching a ton of blue gemstones and minerals. The very first name I contemplated was Blue Spinel, which I thought sounded kinda dorky written down and I preferred Kyanite. But the name grew on me and I couldn't decide on Kyanite or Blue Spinel.
Here's a referenced version of Kyanite's very first concept:
I briefly had an idea where she was bubbled on Earth and still got hit with the Corrupting Light, but it only half affected her because of the bubble. This was because I wanted to make her design really feral and monstrous because frankly, I love those designs. Then I decided not to because that idea had too many inconsistencies for her backstory.
Instead I settled to changing her name to Cat's Eye Kyanite, - after discovering that was a thing - using this as an excuse to give her some catlike features. Cats are cool.
Kyanite gets fangs and claws.
I know she looks a little like Lapis, and this is probably because I have some annoying drawing habits. I can only draw Peridot, Spinel and Lapis, so I tend to lapse into these habits when I try to draw anyone else.
Kyanite/Blue Spinel's main power was:
Dissolving her form into a beam of striated light, which resembles actual raw kyanite. It's kinda ironic because the beam is just a simplified, liquid version of her physical form. Raw, primitive light. She can only move in a straight line while using this attack, as light only moves forward.
This reflects off of Steven's shield and bubble. He unintentionally curb stomped her attack the first time they met; she simply ricocheted off his shield and went flying in the opposite direction.
After lately discovering Sonic, this ability has been removed since the coincidence was a little too much for me lmao.
She was a very insecure, melodramatic Gem prone to anxiety, though very protective of those she cared about. She would leap in front of a poofing blow without a second thought, and could be a little scrappy at times.
Kyanites can detect a falsity from miles away, so never lie to her. She will know.
Her full gem name was Cat's Eye Kyanite Facet-8 Cut 3YK. Quite a mouthful, huh?
Her original backstory is kinda janked, so after this I'll share her scrapped one that's still kinda in progress.
Basically, she was made alongside a team of cabochon Kyanites, but was a defective deep-cut. Her Gem was faceted instead of smooth, she was shorter than she should've been, and instead of being calm and balanced like all other Kyanites, she was nervous and impulsive. Despite being off-color, her defects had benefits. She was a brighter color and slightly stronger than her fellow Kyanites, so her superior ended up keeping her anyways. Though a lot of abuse was still directed at her from said superior and teammates. She also had limb enhancers.
At some point, the Kyanites' manager got sent to earth to help with the colony's construction. While the Corrupting Light was being initiated, 3YK ended up being left behind and bubbled in the Facet 5 Cluster lab. In this version of the AU, the Crystal Gems found her bubble after destroying all of the force fusion shards. They took it back to the temple and Steven convinced them to pop it in case it was an innocent Gem. After all, if it was just another corruption or Homeworld Gem, they could catch it again and no harm done... Right?
I ended up just kinda putting this OC down for a while and never came back to it, but after the movie came out, things got interesting. I never would've anticipated an actual canon Spinel, and, to my mild surprise, my own OC had some obvious similarities besides part of the same name. Some of which include a widow's peak or whatever it's called, similar stature, short hair/fur and then longer tufts, similar coloring system, personality, and some more subtle things.
But I liked both of these characters so much that I just have 2 sub-characters; Blue Spinel and Cat's Eye Kyanite. They each have their own individual AUs, I guess, as well.
Ok, for Blue Spinel now!
I have a headcanon that there are other Spinels on Homeworld, but they're not necessarily the same as the Spinel everyone knows and loves.
As you might know, spinel in real life is rather rare and as such not many people know about it. One could say it's underrated. Gem hierarchy on Homeworld seems to be primarily based on Gem worth and popularity on earth. For example, Diamonds being the highest rank gem. Diamonds are actually one of the most common gemstones on earth; and they're very well known by the community.
Ask someone what the most important gemstone is (not in the context of Steven Universe) and they'll probably answer "diamond" without skipping a beat. So by this logic, Spinels on Homeworld could be kinda rare, and not of a particularly high rank but still important nonetheless. Like Pearls, they could be considered the expensive pets or toys of the upper classes.
Take Pink Spinel. She was made for Pink Diamond, especially customized to look and behave like her. She was made to entertain and be Pink's best friend.
In the movie, Pearl sings:
"This will be fun
Aren't you the lucky one?
Her cut is perfect and she's pink, as well
She'll bring you endless entertainment
Your new best friend, Spinel!"
Steven is lucky to have a Spinel? Are they rare? Perhaps only for the highest of the elites, and most likely much more important than Pearls.
Pink Spinel is, in a way, the ultimate or Diamond quality Spinel. Like Jasper is the Ultimate Quartz.
She's the same color as Pink Diamond/Steven, but, how would Pearl know that Steven was Pink? He shows no physical traits of her, besides her Gem, which is also covered and not obviously even Pink Diamond. Pearl was also reset and completely disregarded Steven in all scenes, as Greg was her new owner.
Is there something different or special about Pink Spinels that deserved a mention in Pearl's basic description of these Gems?
These are, as it seems, in an order. Lucky to have a Spinel. She's perfect and,
Pink.
She'll entertain you.
It's unlikely that these two are connected, but it could be possible that different color Spinels have different purposes.
Pink gems, as a stereotype, might be more fun-loving and goofy. Take Pink Pearl and Pink Diamond. We haven't met very many Pink Gems, but they all seem to share this trait. This could also be because they were modeled after Pink Diamond, but hear me out anyways. Blue Gems tend to be rather solemn. (Lapis Lazuli, Blue Diamond, Blue Pearl, Sapphire.) Green/yellow/orange/red Gems tend to be more sassy, energetic and/or egotistical. (Peridot, Yellow Pearl, Yellow Diamond, Ruby.)
Why wouldn't there be a trait for pink Gems?
Homeworld could've utilized this to create a naturally happy-go-lucky Spinel whose purpose is to be happy and entertain other Gems.
But are all Spinels entertainers?
Entertainment seems like a foreign concept for Gems, and within the busy hierarchy, who would ever have time for fun?
In real life, spinel is known as the copy gem. It can mimic almost any crystal because it comes in such a wide range of colors and has a hardness of 8 on the MOHs scale.
So I created an adaptive theory.
Real spinels can be used to mimic other gems. Homeworld Spinels are one of the customizable "accessory" Gems, which take an appearance and personality very similar to that of their owner.
If this were the case, they would be like a higher quality Pearl with more diverse skills. Programmed to have a base personality exactly like their owner, and if their owner screws up bad, they could just be replaced by their Spinel if they're essential to the hierarchy.
Spinels can be entertainers, friends, substitutes or replacements.
Possibly, not all Spinels are solely entertainers. There could be others out there either way, and with this they could be much more relevant in the Gem society though still very rare.
Anyways, it's just a theory. I hope that made sense.
I might put that specific theory on a separate post as well since I'm rather fond of it lmao.
And now, for her backstory.
Celestine was an important Gem. Her role was to manage a portion of Blue's court, and give reports on how her Diamond's colonies were progressing. She, along with all the other Celestines recorded everything that happened and acted as messengers for higher elites. She oversaw colonies when Blue was away and aided her Diamond in their managements. She specializes in this position of great responsibility.
Alongside their roles, Celestines in general can quickly freeze liquids and control them in their solid state or at a certain temperature below freezing. Unlike Sapphires, however, they cannot generate ice out of thin air. Celestine has a pair of ice wings she can summon from her Gem. These Gems also have construction jobs on colonies. They typically work alongside Lapis Lazulis, who use their powers to excavate Kindergardens. Celestines either froze or evaporated the excess water for later use once the Kindergarten was completed.
At some point, Celestine made an error in her job managing Earth's resources and was threatened by her manager, an overreacting Aquamarine, to be replaced. She couldn't be rejuvenated or harvested because she needed all of her documents of colonies, so her Aquamarine instead requested Blue that she be given a backup Gem as a warning. This was Blue Spinel. Blue Spinel was programmed to behave like Celestine, and replace her immediately if need be. She was also meant to record and report her behaviors to Aquamarine.
Celestine was both terrified of and hated her new little replacement snitch. Spinel had to follow her everywhere, which sometimes tested Celestine's temper. The feeling was mostly mutual. Spinel had been occasionally hit and threatened by Cryolite/Celestine, and would try not to interact closely with her. Though, Spinel had a rather calm demeanor and never retaliated.
The two Gems got sent back to the Earth Colony alongside a few Lapis Lazulis to build the Beta Kindergarten. When the corrupting light was being initiated, Celestine found an opportunity to ditch Spinel and they both took seperate ships back to Homeworld. But as they were leaving, Celestine shot at Spinel's ship and knocked it offline. She was on the ship while the Gems were corrupted.
And Spinel's been stuck in the ship for a couple thousand years, eventually giving up trying to fix it. It circled in a slow spiral pattern towards the planet before finally being sucked in and crashing.
She met the CGs and now lives in Little Homeworld or something, this most likely took place after the movie. She had nothing against Steven or the CGs aside from the fact that she had to fight in the war a little bit at some point, but it was all fine and dandy. She didn't cause any problems when she ended up on Earth.
I don't actually have a finished design for Celestine, but I expect she'd have snow colored hair in a sort of angel wing shaped bob, feathery looking shoulder pads, sorta pale bluish skin and a blue-gray dress/skirt. Sorta sharp white boots like Holly Blue. Her gem is on her naval like Spinel, and of course she's really tall.
#one of my more meh ocs#now I'm fixated on my luminite gems lmao#steven universe oc#blue spinel#one of my many ocs...#stars I'm so sorry this was such a long post
