how to make a tumblr post (and get notes!)

Have never seen any post discuss these exact things, so i'm sharing my insights with y'all*

Use images. They don't have to be good or spectacular like this extremely coherent thing I just made. They just need to catch the eye break up dashboard monotony.

The gif search feature is an unreliable wild card at best and a NSFW eye gouge at worst, but it gives credit to the op of the gif

If you're an artist your whole post is your images, so skip to the links and tags section of this post because the rest won't help much.

When making a post that contains images, hover over an image and click the meatballs icon in the lower right corner of the image. Click "update description" to add a description. It isn't always necessary, but it is very courteous for a variety of accessibility reasons.

Break up your text. Run-on sentences are standard here, lack of punctuation too, you can really do whatever you want, but avoid massive blocks of text. unless you've got a really incendiary opening line and the entire center of that granite chunk of text is actually comedy gold, hard-hitting tumblr journalism, or one of those zany confessional posts that can be followed up by the drive thru meme

break up

your text.

and go light on the ALL CAPS. save it for emphasis or when you're feeling very unhinged or saRcAStiC y'know how that goes, i don't need to explain it. this site has a very dry tone to its posts so caps are rare. also periods

Bullet points and numbered posts are good and fine. The "Chat" post option is used less often these days, but different groups found uses for it so it sticks around.

Titles Matter

they help break up text and put people at ease. they are best for informative, mature posts but can make you look like a square in more relaxed conversations. sometimes they are also great for emphasis in a comedic sh*tpost (censorship is entirely up to you, btw. you don't have to censor much on tumblr except titties and genitals).

Tumblr automatically shortens long posts now, but etiquette asks that you tag #long post if you want to avoid clogging up someone's dash. It don't matter too much though, this is the "color of the sky" site, so get used to posts being too long

That being said "READ MORE" is a fantastic feature. Use it when you want some level of privacy like "hey, only click below if you want to hear about my problems" or "click below to read my 18+ fanfic." Read more is also great in case you want to delete something forever. If a reblogged post has a read more, but op deleted the og post, that content is gone (readmore has to be on the og post at time of posting for this to work, btw; edits to og post do not span all reblogs)

the other bells and whistles like colored font or italics are helpful in improving text, but we don't really rely on them. every mode of looking at this site alters those aspects somehow so we often ignore them

Hint: People don't want to click links. We don't know where they're taking us. Most of us are on our phone and don't want to open another tab or leave the app to go on the browser. We're cozy here on Tumblr and do not wish to be whisked away (unless it's a rickroll)

Don't leave the link thumbnail to do all the work, like so

add a little sneak peak info, maybe your favorite line from the article or a reason why it's important for people to know the info on the other side of that link. Sell it!

When you're adding a link into a list, i.e. no large thumbnail just a line of text leading you to another site, try not to copy/paste the link as is

"https://......"

No one wants to click on that it's gross and scary. It's screams "meh, i'll click later if i feel like it." If the build up to the link is too good to resist ("if you want to save the orphaned puppies here's the link") then that http mess is sufficient.

Otherwise, dress your links up a little by including the title or a description of what the link goes to:

Or, if it's an informal post where you're just popping info in to back up whatever insane thing you just said, just write something like "link here" or "(x)" and hyperlink it.

artists, writers, and other creators: leave a tag on your creative content that makes it easy for blog visitors to see it all at once. e.g. "My work" and we click on that while on your blog and see only your works

You can have up to thirty tags on any post. All will make your post show up in searches and followed tags (it used to be only the first five tags that got you traction). However,

Please. Do not tag everything you can possibly imagine being relevant to your post because

Everyone here hates that

No one is going to check all those tags ever. Someone might search one five years from now and accidentally find your post hanging out in the ether and they'll still ignore it.

Your imagination is wicked tiny because I guarantee the perfect tag is going to be something indecipherable and seemingly niche.

Follow popular tags (or at least be aware of them)

If yours is an off-the-cuff post and you don't have time to find out what a niche group is into then wing it, sure, idc. this is also the shitposting site do whatever you want

Don't put your hate in the fan tags. This is the unapologetically-like-dumb-things site and your negativity is not wanted. You can still complain, just avoid tagging to get the attention of the fans of whatever you're complaining about. That enables pvp and even nonfans will know you deserve the backlash

-> Audio & Video

clickable by nature because we all love noise and moving images so there's no special way to share posts like this. just post them with good tags and maybe a one-liner, and they'll sell themselves

Tip: it's nice to add descriptions to these too but it isn't common

Protip: if the audio is the best part of the video (e.g. a baby burps REALLY loudly and it's hilarious) please caption or tag "Unmute!"

He hated being the first one to text until he watched you fumbled a text in person

(A modern au headcanon!)

Muriel never liked to text when he needed someone for anything. Sometimes he needed them to ask a question or he needed an item for a project.

Sometimes he misses people and wants to text them first.

Even though it's limited to Asra, Inanna (yes she texts), Faust (and her too), Nadia, and you. Sometimes, very rarely, does he ever text Julian. Portia is not a problem, they have a meme relationship where they only text each other cat or gardening memes (very, very rarely)

But the moment he types out a text, he cringes. "How are you?" No. His thumb hovers over the backspace. Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap. It sounds too forward. "Wyd?" sounds rude. "I miss you." Hell no. He's reserved that for you. And that one time he accidentally sent that to Asra - the thought heats his cheeks with embarrassment. At least Asra was a good sport about it.

That changed when he saw you text. You wanted to reach out, to say hello, to say you missed them.

"No that sounds too simple." you say.

"Maybe try how are you, or a picture of something?" he says

"We're not close like that."

"Do you need to be close to say those things?"

"Well, it depends. I dunno! Maybe... Maybe I just have cold feet?"

Your fingers furiously tap your phone. Each sentence you write is never finished, obliterated by your thumb aggressively hammering the back space.

You give up. You drop your phone to your nose. A phone facepalm that masks the frustrated embarrassment rising to your cheeks.

When you're not watching, Muriel softens at you. You text just like him.

Or perhaps, does everyone struggle with this too?

He knows the feeling too well, so much that his heart might rip out of his chest to hug you tight. Poor you.

But that doesn't happen. Instead, he places a gentle hand on your back. His weight is a familiar comfort. You lean into his side, half-cuddling him.

"Maybe I just won't text for now." you sigh.

He frowns.

If that were him on the other line, he would want you to text him.

His face lights up, it dawns on him. Is this what it's like to be on the other line too?

Eventually, you figure it out. It wouldn't be for a few days that Muriel catches a glimpse of this when you left your phone open in the bathroom.

'Pssst. Long time no talk. Wanna hang? :3c ' you texted.

The exchange between you and this person is warm, even though it took a week for them to reply. They chirp back a hello, a meeting is made, and a distant friendship is rekindled.

Perhaps, he could have the same thing happen to him too?

Later, you borrow Muriel's phone to search something up. His 2015 android phone doesn't have anything besides the bare essentials, a browser, a stock phone video game, and a calculator. His contacts are labeled with the person's last name unless they are close to him

Suddenly, 'Devorak' pops up.

'Gotcha, wanna head out with me and Asra to pick it up?'

Muriel comes out of the bathroom.

"Hey, Julian's asking if you want to meet up with him and Asra for something?"

"Oh." he looks surprised. He didn't think Julian would reply, or even invite him for anything, "Yeah, sure. Tell him I'll go."

You bite back a smile. Muriel sees your attempt. He deadpans, betrayed by a small smile and pink cheeks. Don't tease. Just let him have this, just once.

And you do. You text Julian back as Muriel with your heart full. You can't help but feel happy for him.

I feel like this question has already been asked but i can’t remember and I couldn’t find the answer by searching his tag, so: What was the role of Akio in the original OBT? From what i can tell he’s meant to be Rune’s son, but what about his father? Is there a chance he could appear in the current comic, or would he just be repurposed into a new character? (Sorry for long prompt btw)

// the explanation was a bit buried into this ask here (which also talks about other plot points from old OBT), but I'd be happy to give a more accessible version of an explanation as well as some extra context! so akio is the remnant of an arc I had in mind for rune from the very early era of preboot OBT up until I officially scrapped him in 2020. october 6th, 2020 in fact (happy die day you little freak)! in old OBT his role was to be the son of rune and some rando from the luxio tribe in a one night stand, mostly to stir drama between her and kodali. later on it turned out that luxio had the same name as one of my partner's characters (a mew named Xander), and we joked about Xander shapeshifting into a Luxio and blending into the tribe and getting together with rune... and then I made doodles of a vulpix with fun little mew traits, and got attached to the idea! around that time I was gearing up for the reboot of OBT, so he's... well, I was gonna say alolan, but this was actually my first doodle of that fire opal vulpix concept!

and then I thought "actually it'd be more fun if he was kantonian and also will help differentiate his design from rune" which is where you get the current iteration of his design that I use for memeing purposes

then with this being in the reboot timeline, it meant it started intersecting and butting heads with other arcs I had planned. I can probably go more into detail with that once we're a bit further along in the story, but basically rune was A Little Cringe for the circumstances she ended up with xander in the reboot, which would've ended up giving akio a bit of tasty insecurity as he got older and realized he resembled his dad in several ways he didn't like.

one of those ways being that he was flirty, but didn't want to commit to having a family

but that said... these were all headcanons for akio when he was older, aka either in the epilogue of OBT or in a potential sequel. which would've meant I'd have to carry around a baby character that I didn't really have any strong feelings about, a character arc for rune that was fitting with the story less and less over time, all for an epilogue or sequel that may or may not have seen the light of day. don't get me wrong, i still LOVE the idea of exploring this type of arc. but... does it have to be rune's son? she has a bunch of other arcs to explore, and her experiencing motherhood was just complicating the story in a way that wasn't fun to write. overall, it stopped fitting with the themes of OBT and needed to be cut in order to tell the story I actually wanted to tell. so nowadays, akio is a funny little in-joke with myself as a remnant of a long forgotten storyline, and is floating around my brain like a dvd screensaver. maybe someday he'll find a home in a story (he'd be more likely to find another life in my original project before OBT), maybe I'll use him in some sort of RP/collab, or maybe he'll keep collecting dust. only time will tell!

Last Movie I Watched

Rewatched this for family movie night yesterday. First time I've seen it again since I was a kid. I liked it a normal amount back then, and I like it the same amount now even if some of my thoughts about it have changed as a result of being slightly more analytical about the movies I watch. I think my only gripe with it is how the romance between Kim & Edward is a little bit too easy. It's not rushed, it just seems to fall in place just because rather than any actual connection between the two. Maybe there's some commentary about how Edward represents a world unlike either of the ones Kim currently inhabits (the 90s rebellion of her generation against the 50s sensibilities of her neighborhood) and that's tempting to her, but idk. I usually write up these letterboxd reviews for the stuff I watch (no, I won't share my account on here) but since I got up for a few minutes to cook my dinner, I didn't wanna write up my thoughts based on a partial rewatch. I'll probably refer back to this post later, though.

This shitty little squirreljak, because the topic of that republican who adopted a wild squirrel came up in the politics channel of this server I'm in, and there's this other guy in the server who posts this pic so often that it's become an inside joke. My opinion on "Peanut"? I think this is a stupid thing for people to rally around, but that's the point. The right is always playing these dudebro games about not taking anything seriously so when anyone calls them out on it the Leftists trying to treat it that way end up looking even sillier. That said, I saw that tweet from some pundit about Trump "winning 48 states if he [puts on a squirrel suit]" and thought it was some gaga about securing the furry vote because I hadn't heard about the Peanut debacle prior to seeing it, and since I doubt that's what the guy intended when he made the post it makes it so I'm laughing at him instead of him laughing at me. All-in-all, I really hope the next time I hear about Trump after he loses in 2 days is about him dying, and then I'll never hear about him again.

Most Embarrassing Song You Have Saved

I don't have a Spotify because I can listen to music on youtube for free with Ublock (or on SiriusXM through my parents' account), but I do keep a playlist on youtube so I pulled the song for this prompt from on there. It took some searching, because i've got over 800 songs spread out over 3 separate playlists that while others may find me to be embarrassing to have in there, I feel no shame over because that's simply the person I was at the time and most of it is still objectively enjoyable (things like a PSG AMV set to the song Danger Days or a Mother Mother song I liked long before they became hip to dunk on). But, I eventually found a song that I thought was funny at the time, but now I think if people knew I ever liked it they'd think I was an actual fan of his.

Most Problematic Movie You Still Watch for Nostalgia

Originally I was gonna edit this to be the most problematic film I feel nostalgic for, because I don't actually rewatch movies that often when there's so many that I haven't seen yet and time is a precious commodity, BUT there actually is a somewhat problematic feature that I do rewatch at least once a year.

Well, "problematic" in the sense that soooo many fans of the original absolutely despise this remake and Matthew Broderick for "butchering" the role of Harold Hill. I still haven't seen the original to compare it against yet, but I have a feeling I'm still gonna prefer this one simply because I love the hokey mid-2000s acting in it as much as I do the musical performances. If you think this is a copout, just ask any theater major you still have contact with their opinions.

Silva Omar is the de-facto "main protagonist" of Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, especially with her motivation for living in Hope County, which is to move on from the past and her repetitive status as being the "Last One Standing" [Skylar Grey ft. There's also other series I've developed such as Wings And Horns and it's spin-off trilogy that develops, as well as the Fallout series A Radioactive Calamity of Love, Bombs & Gore, all a "Glorious" [Macklemore ft. Skylar Grey] exploration of the past that happened before The UnTitled Ventures saga, which is the kickstart of the other three series plots. "Everywhere You Look" [Carly Rae Jepsen - Fuller House] is a strange and fantastic journey, which both original and canon characters have to endure and overcome through because what we (and I) get seems to be "Never Enough" [Loren Allred - The Greatest Showman] for our passionate hearts, so we write our own stories and build upon it. "I Gotta Feeling" [The Black Eyed Peas] that The UnTitledverse, Far Cry The Silver Chronicles, Life, Despair & Monsters and the other series and the characters in them, are going to be phenomenal, which is a very bold statement but hey, I've had these building up in my head like an "Unstoppable" [The Score] force for years and I really, really want to finally write them all down so at least they are out there, somewhere, and who knows maybe it might "Shine Through" [The Stupendium] someone else's vision and inspire them to write or make their day a brighter.

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

Okay so I feel like this is generally more popular as a brotp in general, BUT barrisco for sure. Like there are a lot of ships that I will happily read romantically or platonically, as long as they are in each other's lives i am a happy clam, but whenever I have read any romantic/sexual barry/cisco content i just am not into it. It's not that it squicks me out particularly, or that I am opposed to it, but it does nothing for me. It's like when I have seen aro/ace people describe making out with a person as the same thing as kissing a wall. Like I feel absolutely nothing thinking about those two in any kind of romantic or sexual entanglement. I am politely perplexed by it.

Here is my dark secret: when I first started watching the Flash, I didn't actually like Len. It's not like I DISliked him (though i think maybe i did a little bit), I didn't have massively strong feelings about him that I can recall, but I didn't have much interest in him as a character

I was obsessed with the show, i had started drifting away from my old fandom, I wanted shippy content and was basically just searching for a ship I could get behind. and obviously this was like. the heyday of coldflash, we're talking like 2015/16, peak coldflash fic writer hours, and since i didn't have a specific ship i was looking for, i saw a coldflash fic with a cool summary was like 'hm i mean i really do not see these two as a couple' (LMAOOOOO) 'but sure i'll bite'

7 years later... here i am lmao. the number one leonard snart stan. coldflash takes up at least 60% of my brain at all times. in the wise words of leonard snart himself, didn't see that one coming

see i don't actually know if i have one for this?? i feel like in the arrowverse, most of the people who are likeable are the people you are actually meant to like. i can't think of anyone who is meant to be rooted for that i'm really not a fan of. the obvious answer is oliver but i feel like that's only obvious because nobody actually likes him, ergo making him not a fit answer to this question.

the only person i can really think of is julian. when i did my rewatch i was like oh, he's a bit more annoying than i remembered. but then, nobody ever talks about julian lmao. remember when allenbert was a thing? a very distant memory lmao

for all muses: i'm up for any or all of my muses getting injured or injuring others (purposefully or not).

anya jenkins: self-preservation will kick in almost immediately. they will be hiding or seeking out someone she has gotten close to who are more fit for combat. most likely, though, they'll be trying to find a way to get the hell out of dodge as it's very much their mo.

ji euntak: she will be out there, jumping in front of swords (metaphorical or literal) aimed at friends, family, strangers. basically willing to save anyone, the self-sacrificial type that she is.

lorelai gilmore: being an extremely privileged upper middle class woman whose biggest hardship was being a single, teen mom (which, granted, was difficult), this will be her first experience with such violence outside of watching it. but mama bear instincts will kick in and she'll be doing whatever it takes to search for/protect rory.

lydia martin: her banshee abilities are really going to go haywire. she'll be drawing strange pictures, finding dead bodies, and maybe have her first scream / wail ? outside of trying to deal with that, she is also part of the fbi so she'll be working out who the killer(s) is/are. definitely would love for her to find bodies as it's kind of her thing, but obviously would not be something we'd know at this very moment. soo feel free to just say 'if my muse dies lydia can find them' and if it happens then i'll include it in her threads and what have you.

nam onjo: she's pretty unfazed by everything and just trying to get through each day. anyone sus will be tased and/or pepper sprayed first and asked questions later. ** new addition: she sees an opportunity to make a quite a bit of money by basically being a errand person for those in hiding. so hit her up on the taskrabbit-esque app if you need some takeout delivered or more alcohol or whatever. there's an injury/death tax so it'll be pricey but at least your muse won't have to take the risk themselves!

sabrina spellman: another self-sacrificial one, but she's going to actively fight people who mess with her loved ones as well as try to figure out who the culprit(s) are. she's been practicing her magic so she'll use that for defense. and, just like riding a bike, she might spout out some more powerful and dangerous spells that could cause injury.

tatia: no stranger to death and chaos, tatia knows how to protect herself. she'll likely stay in her studio or apartment and avoid everything. maybe she'll go to some trusted people/friends because safety in numbers and all. but she is definitely not going out of her way to help anyone or solve anything.

tinker bell: tink is still learning how to use a cellphone and now she has to avoid murderers? how annoying. the fairy is not about that and will fly away from threats. possibly goad and be a little brat about it tbh. she's also learned a bit about capitalism and the whole supply and demand thing, so she'd be willing to sell a bit of pixie dust so your muse can also fly (limited, so far 1/3 taken).

brenda bates: she is enjoying the chaos but feigning disgust and sympathy for the victims. she is likely having a house party or attending one because she's from the 90s and that is what they do in the face of a crazy serial killer being on the loose.

one specific plot idea i have for 1 unlucky muse is for her to injure them while in her hooded mask (image). with all the chaos, her crime will just get lost in the sea of others. however, her crimes emulate urban legends so i can give you a small list or if you have one in mind feel free to send it to me.

chloe decker: she will be investigating. she is not only trying to figure out who the culprit(s) is/are but why this was happening. she's from la so she is familiar with serial murders and strange happenings. but these sudden bursts scream otherworldly doing. she would know since she has spent time with the devil, a demon, and an angel.

It was a slow day at the dorm and ATEEZ has finally have a full weekend off for themselves. They just wrapped up their promotions with WAVE and Minyoung doesn’t have to shoot for her drama until the week after.

Most of the members were still sleeping in with the exemption of Hongjoong and Mingi who were probably at the studio, and Yeosang and Wooyoung who left an hour ago going who knows where. Minyoung thought of doing a random VLIVE but they just did that last night after their last stage to thank the fans for their support throughout the promotions.

“Waah. That looks delicious. Oh this place looks so beautiful.” Minyoung exclaimed as she scrolled through her phone looking at random instagram posts. 

“What are you looking at?” Yunho asked as he passed by grabbing himself a glass of water.

“I don’t know where this cafe is but their food looks great.” Minyoung followed him into the kitchen holding her phone up showing the photos.

Yunho looked at the photo and immediately recognized the shop “Isn’t that the shop near the station on the way to the company?”

“It’s near?” Minyoung gasped and immediately searched for the cafe, pursing her lips in concentration

Yunho chuckled watching her expression turn into that of joy. “Do you want me to go with you?”

Nodding her head repeatedly “Will you? I want to go!”

“Alright. Let me just get ready and tell manager-hyung and we can go there.” Yunho could only laugh when Minyoung cheered and rushed to her room with Mingi.

“Why? What happened to Minyoung? I could hear her from here.” San asked from the bed as Yunho changed his clothes making sure he looks decent enough in case people recognize them.

“Remember that cafe near the station? It seems Minyoung hasn’t been there so I offered to go with her.” Yunho answered and San mumbled a sleepy response, probably already drifting off to sleep again.

“Oppa let’s go go go.” Minyoung was bouncing on her heels as she waited for Yunho to finish. It was times like this that Yunho gets reminded that Minyoung is still young, not that he was much older than her but it's like watching a kid get excited over promise of sweets.

After obtaining permission from their manager, both of them headed towards the cafe using public transport. They do get recognized by some passengers but thankfully no one approached them due to the busy morning.

"Say Minyoung-ah, how long have you been in Korea again?" Yunho asked the girl who was busy looking around the streets

Minyoung faced Yunho, counting off her fingers "Hmm..if we count from when I started training then I've been in Korea since 2012, so around seven years? Waah. I didn't realize it's been that long. Although, I haven't really been in many places other than the school and the company."

"You haven't gone out on a trip in all those years?" surprised, Yunho stopped walking his mouth hanging down at the information

"I didn't have the leisure to when I flew up here as a kid and lived together with my grandparents. The condition for letting me go was that I'll work hard in school and finish my studies. After school, I had to run to training then immediately after that I had to go home and work on leftover schoolwork. During days when I had no school and training, I was attending Korean classes." Minyoung shrugged with a smile on her face

"Do you regret it?"

"Nope! I'd be lying if I say I don't miss my family or that I sometimes envy everyone's stories of going out and experiencing lots of things but I am glad I decided to pursue my dream." Minyoung smiled brightly, tugging on Yunho's arm towards the direction of the café. "Besides, I met great people! Everyone in ATEEZ, Atiny, people from my trainee days, manager-oppa, the stylist unnies, the people in the drama, and many more!"

Yunho smiled letting the younger lead the way, making mental note to share this information with the others and maybe plan something for Minyoung.

The café was fairly free of people considering the time so they were able to order quickly and get good seats. Yunho ordered for the both of them as Minyoung was too busy admiring the decor of the place.

"This reminds me of when we commute to school together oppa. To be honest, I would probably follow you unsuspectingly even if you decided to skipped class for fear that I'll get lost" Minyoung giggles looking up

Yunho laughs, shaking his head "Oh so that's why you were always trailing behind me."

"I had to! I may be able to hold a conversation then but I was pretty sure I can't get directions right. So if someday I get left behind someplace, I'm taking a taxi to go back where I'm familiar with." Minyoung pouted

Yunho reached out his hand ruffling her hair a bit, grinning "I doubt we'll ever forget to bring you with us and should that happen, you don't really need to do anything since we're probably already rushing back to get you and whoever is with you."

Minyoung giggled, nodding in agreement "That's true. I'm probably holding unto one of you anyway."

Minyoung has already taken photos of the place after asking for permission from the staff while they were waiting. As soon as their orders were served, she immediately took photos of their food hoping to share it with the other members and maybe to Atiny in a later date. Looking up from she noticed Yunho taking photos of her pouting a bit. "You should tell me so I look good in them."

Yunho scoffs a bit before chuckling "Since when did you look bad in photos? Even when you make those meme faces, you still look good in them. Atiny even posts a lot of them, you know?"

"Still! Here take one with me ready" Minyoung smiled looking a bit at the camera with her arm propping up her chin.
