Hello hello !! I know it's been over a month since my last post on here anyway, but I figure it's time to officially make a HIATUS post. Even though I've not been on the computer in the last few weeks ( lurking here and there on mobile ), I know I'll definitely be without access to it from 14 July ⸺ 14 September !! ( and perhaps even into October, will update if so ! )

I'll still be popping in on the app from time to time, I'm not completely getting off the site, but writing here will definitely have to take a backseat ⸺ even more so than it already has, unfortunately. My goal once I'm back from this hiatus is to get back to writing, I do miss you guys and writing Jess so much 😭 I've just not had the time for tumblr lately.

OH MY GOD, ORTHO?????? ROBOBABY GOT A MAJOR GLOW UP??????????? AHHHHHHHHGGGHHhgHHHHHHGH I LOVE HIS FG SSR DESIGN??????????

Lemme ramble for a hot minute about it

My first thought is that Ortho’s look resembles that of Doll from the Noah’s Ark Circus in Black Butler! You can see similar elements in both designs: a lot of white and poofy fabric, flowers, ballet slippers with criss-crossing ribbons, concealed eyes, etc.

Something that’s interesting about specifically Ortho’s design (compared to the other FG boys) is that his look invokes the idea of both life and death while the others invoke mainly life/the idea of rebirth. This may be attributed to the lack of actual fabric on Ortho (which makes him look thin, small, and vulnerable) while butterflies (a common symbol of life, death, and passing) and what little fabric there is resembles “wings” swarm his tiny form. It looks some poor soul has departed, slowly being lifted into the next world on the wings of butterflies. Very eerie and ephemeral!

More creepy elements! His bodice or torso component has markings which resemble ribs!! Not only that, but his arms and fingers look extremely detailed and ribbed in gold, making them look almost skeletal (as there are many small fingers in specifically the hands). Altogether, this makes for a very unique look? I can’t really describe the style as anything but “Jack Skellington got into the cottagecore aesthetic”.

Also????? I don’t know if this was intentional or not, but the windows behind Ortho look like they were arranged to resemble a spiderweb??????????? So like??? Ortho...? The butterfly caught in a spider’s web???? I think that concept is interesting, even if it’s just a visual coincidence 👀 because there’s an old saying about a “spider’s thread in hell” (“hell” in this case being “the Underworld”), referring to fragile hope in a bleak situation. Who knows, it could very much allude to what Ortho’s role will be in the upcoming Fairy Gala If? event, especially seeing as he is the SSR for it.

OH and can we talk about his footwear?????? Those are some fancy ass boots if I’ve ever seen them. All the detailed, flowery gold elements (especially the ones around major joints and other points of articulation) look amazing???? And again, they resemble laced up ballet slippers! The fact that the legs/shoes still allow for mobility despite being that ornate is a testament to Idia’s genius (assuming that he is the one that created this new gear for Ortho; I can’t imagine anyone else that would do this??? Maybe Vil offered some help in designing for fashion and Idia made it functional as well).

It looks like the lower part of the legs are made of some kind of see-through component (I can vaguely see the ribbons crossing on the other side of the legs?)! In that sense, the design reminds me of Monster High’s ghost dolls like Spectra Vandergeist. These dolls actually had legs that transitioned from opaque to see-through or more sheer to give it that “ghostly” vibe, and I’m getting similar energy from FG Ortho~

One last thing I wanted to comment on Ortho’s “wings” are a super nice touch! The colors and segmentation reminds me a lot of dragonflies...! I also find it interesting how they fold out around Ortho. It makes me think it was intentionally done so that the wings resemble flower petals, and Ortho looks like he is emerging from within the “flower”. In other words, he is being “reborn”, like how flowers are “reborn” in the spring time, like how he was “reborn” to serve the place of OG!Ortho 👁

HNNNNNNNGH Seeing Ortho’s FG card art in full has me so hype for the new story eventttttt 😭 Can it be the end of May already, I want to throw my rolls at himmmmmmmmm 🦋

Favorite thing about them: Can I say everything? He’s just such a great character! I love his sense of humor, how kind he is, and how smart he is! He can be a bit of a flirty airhead, but that’s what makes him so charming! Did I mention the cool glowey red eyes? He can turn from sweet to dangerous when he needs to. Oh, but he has such a big heart, perhaps a little too big for his body. I both admire him for his strength and just wanna wrap a blanket around him ❤️❤️❤️

Least favorite thing about them: Oh, dear. He’s too giving 🥺💔. I wish he knew that it doesn't always have to be him to be the one to sacrifice and that he could learn to share his burdens. I know it’s incredibly hard for him to do something like that because it’s never been in his nature to let go. He has to be strong. Has to be brave. Has to be always smiling. Always the one to take the blame, always the defender, always going to extremes to fix things. I know this is a product of his upbringing and his surroundings. He was a teenager suddenly thrown into war after the death of nearly his entire clan. I don’t know if there was another way around this, I’m not sure if speculating would be of much use. What I do know, is that at the end of his first life, after everything wwx did, after learning about how he died, I kept thinking to myself: “It’s too much. No one should have to give so much.”

Favorite line: “But from now on, what you say to me, what you do for me, I’ll remember it all—I won’t forget a single thing! I really like you, Lan Zhan. I love you, I want you, I fancy you, I whatever you. I want to night-hunt with you for the rest of my life.” Basically his entire speech from Chapter 100 ❤️

BROTP: Okay. I know there’s a lot of people I could choose who would fit this role better, like Wen Ning or Wen Qing, my beloved. But if I’m being honest! If I'm being truthful! My answer would be Jiang Cheng (Plz don’t throw a pitchfork at me 🥲). And I get it. Maybe these two brothers are destined to just go their separate ways. Maybe there isn’t a timeline where these two can ever be happy around each other. But idc. I just can’t let go of the idea that the love is still there, buried, smothered, quiet, but there. I know that some things can’t be forgotten and things may never be how they once were; there were many flaws in their relationship, so I wouldn’t want them to go back to being the same. But I choose to believe that with time, even if it’s at a very slow pace, wwx and jc can reach a new state of being. Where they can learn how to just talk to each other again. About the small things. About the memories that aren’t painful. About Jin Ling. And maybe then, and only then, would they begin to heal and close the gap, one tiny step at a time.

also this is book spoiler influenced so like, there's that, although i don't think any are too overt, and it doesn't spoil forthcoming events, because any events i borrow diverge from new spring.

let's call it a modern au.

i'm not sure whether it truly still counts as an au - those reborn in different lives don't necessarily have their lives correlate to the same extent that they do in this

so it's mindless self indulgence that could be lives in the past, or lives yet to be led, or neither, or both (the fun thing about the way in which the wheel of time turns is that any au is technically some degree of canon compliant, because anything could be a turn of the wheel.)

in one age, called the first age by some, in an age yet to come, an age long ago, there were two girls, born into entirely different lives. this was not the beginning, but it was a beginning.

a girl who is the daughter of politicians - she is expected to follow in her family's footsteps purely by virtue of her name, and there is the general impression that her name is what also got her into university. it wasn't, but the truth will never overwhelm such an interesting falsehood.

(she has a best friend, whose position is not what it was, and he is who her family expected her to marry for a long time - it was only shortly before she was actually married that her family accepted what was to be. but both dear friends know full well that they have only ever wanted friendship. he doesn't factor into this story. but he's there.)

and it's not going to be perfect - when is it ever? - but it's good enough that even though one family's gatherings are always a bit intense and the other's are always quite quiet, they still have their families. they never had to fear losing each other, and the prospect of having to choose between their love and the rest of their lives wasn't even something they needed to contemplate. they can love in the light of the world.

they don't have the weight of the world resting on their shoulders. just the weight of being the rich lesbian aunts who always fuck it right up with the best presents for the niblings.

what if looney toons peter lorre met slappy

Oh that's easy! I'd simply pass way

Jk jk but ohhhh!! Finally! I can use my book of notes for this! Because as of late I've been blowing off energy writing about slappy and where specifically other peter lorre parodies in cartoons came from + roles he played that contributed most to the typical lorre caricature we have in mind that so often shows up in media. Also because slappy only has small cameos and stuff and this is how I get more content lol *snorts some slapcrack*

Okay! But there is noticeable differences between the typical looney tunes lorre characters. There's 5 looney tunes shorts I've seen so far with some type of lorre character. Two with a mad scientist-esque character and one with a gangster, some with some dude Mr. Greenstreet (ha get it? Get it?) who's obsessed with new tastes (get this man some 🐔), and one where it's just himself along with other parodies of Hollywood stars. There's also his appearence in tinytoons where he was an evil train conductor named boxcars. There's more but that's all I've seen so far.

Though I think we'll stick with mad scientist lorre because he appeared twice in the original plus had a little comeback in the movie looney tunes back in action. Also they've got an official name! Dr. Lorre 👀

I know for SURE they would've wanted experimented on my boy slappy. A talking fish? How could they resist? Maybe they'll finally find his wishbone?

Of course they wouldn't be getting it easy. While I don't see slappy really fighting. He has his way of getting around (his mysterious transportation onto that stunt ride mobility scooter in Pat-a-thon or him just there watching pat through the window in lost in couch) he just shows up and disappears. Not to mention, in actual trouble. He can manage via unorthodox methods (stair wars) Ngl I wish I could settle all feuds like this lol

Also slappy seems to have a very small (but very much there) awareness that he's a weirdo/people find him creepy. He doesn't seem to mind. But can also easily do what he can to make people further repulsed by him. (I assumed so from his first episode and lost in couch but now I am certain in the halloween special)

Who would win? Will it be a battle to the death? Err no. The scientist ones has one detail that Slappy doesn't have. The thing about how a lot of peter lorre characters are depressed and tortured. Dealing with inner demons ans suffering from loneliness and thus are unable to control their actions. Which sounds dramatic but a staple trait to add to any of your Lorre inspired characters 👀 (like for an example, I just finished watching The Stranger On the Third Floor. Peter Lorre plays a criminal, in the final scene talking to a lady and said the only one who's ever been nice to him was a lady, and that he doesn't have any friends. He's clearly sad. But he's a killer who's been slashing people's throats. It should've been obvious. Still I think it was mcstinking cute!)

Anyways they don't get why people turn away from them while doing horrible things that make people run away in fear.

Which is something the looneytunes lorre characters have that slappy doesn't. Slappy is pretty happy go lucky. He's certainly weird but doesn't mind it at all. He enjoys things his own way and is friendly (to the best of his abilities) I mean look how Unbothered he is!!

I can see slappy befriending the looneytunes lorre characters. He's the only one I can see that wouldn't judge them for their heinous actions and would probably be the most understanding. Eh, knowing them, they'd still probably try to steal his wishbone but it wouldn't bother him much.

Now I can really see them having almost like a group session where they're talking about their feelings and slappy is just there listening xD slappy is the least likeliest to make a therapist but also probably the best..?

Why do I kinda feel like he'd find their heinous acts amusing? He loves a good failure after all. Probably listening to how they let people come to their untimely demise is to him like listening to how people failed to keep their lives? Perhaps for his own macarbe amusement? Or maybe it's just innocent curiousity? Or maybe he genuinely wants to help? Who knows.
